Mbappe and Haaland may have numbers but their impact, especially at crucial moments, has mostly been tame. They are easily tamed. Ronaldo and Messi aren’t.

Mbappe has produced the numbers, clutch moment and impacts. World cup goals and golden boot, hatrick in a world cup final, scored in two world cup finals, numerous world class performance In the champions league knock out stages, etc


Haaland hasn't produced to the level of Mbappe In terms of champions league knockout stages and world cup but his record against the top teams is still very impressive. He has 12goals and 7 assists in 19games against the so called big 6 in England. Plus numerous goals against the top teams in the champions league.

Is that really the case. Mbappe and Haaland who are the frontrunners are putting in similar numbers.

This season Mbappe had 43goals in 54 appearances. Last season he had 53goals in 57games. Haaland had 42goals in 48 games this season and 60goals in 62games last season. To put it into perspective Messi only has 3 60goal season in his career. I don't think this new generation will struggle in dropping similar numbers with how attacking football has become.

Under the old Ballon dor rules Snejider would have won in 2010. 2010 was the year Ballon dor and FIFA player of the year merged so the rules were changed, before then only journalist voted for the Ballon dor. Snejider won the media votes in 2010 with Iniesta 2nd and Xavi 3rd, Messi wasn't even top 3. It was national coaches and captains votes that changed the outcome. Ribery also won the media votes in 2013. Under the old Ballon dor rules both Snejider and Ribery would have each won a Ballon Dor. Tough luck to both players.

Henderson will definitely make the squad. Sterling and Philips has fallen out of favor with Southgate for various reasons. Its not hard to understand why national managers will go with players already used to their system.

As impressive as their season has been I don't think they have really won against any top club. Bayern who is supposed to go head to head with them has been terrible all through the season losing to even league 1 teams.
