Foreign Affairs › Re: South Africa Finalising Permanent R350 Monthly Grant For The Poor by bonetalk(m): 6:26am On Jul 02 |
RandDigital: The Department of Social Development (DSD) hopes to finalise the policy for a new Basic Income Support (BIS) grant by March 2027, getting it ready for implementation.
The BIS is the new social grant the government plans to use to replace the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress grant, which has been extended far beyond its original intent.
The SRD grant was a R350 per month support grant, later lifted to R370, launched in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic to help qualifying South Africans weather the economic uncertainty at the time.
The department noted that the grant was only ever expected to be in effect for six months, but over 8 million recipients became dependent on the support.
The DSD characterised the billions spent on the grant as a “success” because it directly addressed poverty, noting that recipients mainly used the money to buy food, electricity, and clothing.
This, it said, then supported local economies.
“Research by multiple independent researchers also found the SRD grant to be well targeted and successful in reducing hunger, poverty and inequality while also enabling the participation of beneficiaries in job search and other economic activity,” it said.
Because of this, the national government, supported by the presidency, is moving to transform the SRD grant into a new Basic Income Support policy, which is currently being processed.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has long supported the new grant and, in his 2026 State of the Nation Address, promised that the rework of the new grant would happen this year. More people would prefer to stay idle, after all there's free coming from government. More entitlement, more crime |

Israel didn't violate the agreement, as they never entered into any agreement with Iran, and never signed any.
It was the US who did, and Israel is a separate country from the US.

Romance › Re: My Experience Dating An Older Single Mother by bonetalk(m): 7:07pm On Jan 27 |
ErnestNc: It was a bitter sweet experience I'd not advice any young man to engage in. It's a game and the only way to win, is to be the user .
I knew this already but unfortunately I was blind sided and disarmed by the love I had for her 13yr old child. The child was so bright. I tutored her in mathematics til she became the best. I saw a lonely bright child who took me as a father figure in her school.
I was so attached and one day I was opportune to meet with her mother. I met a very beautiful young woman in her early 30's the day she came to drop off her child at school. Prior to this, our chat engagement was official and all about her daughter's growth. She requested that I drop all formality and desist from caling her "ma" . She called me babe instead and We both became informal with time and got very close. There was constant calls and communication.
She told me alot about her past , her 4 exes and how she's been alone. It turns out she was always the victim in all her stories . She's so pretty , why would any man leave such a woman? I kept asking myself. She learnt about our 5yrs age difference which was shocking to her but she was already deep into it and ready to go down.
THE ROMANCE
We became sexually involved and things were going down fast. She had great sexual appetite . She wanted me to marry her and was fond of calling me her child's soon to be father and how we were gonna get married. She's a fashion designer who is financially stable.
CRISIS
She had sudden financial crisis after embarking on a huge project. To assist , I tutored the child for free and I was assisting her occasionally with finances cuz I had lesson gigs fetching me 6figures.
Soon, I started to realise her sudden change of attitude. The calls soon dropped and we started to have alot of unresolvable fights , reason being that she would rather not like to settle the conflict when I want to, but make it linger so I'd have to beg her even when she was wrong. She never likes to talk about the unresolved issues, so we could trash it amicably and make amends where necessary.
POINT OF REALISATION
I suspected she was sleeping around and one day I decided to pay her a visit . On that faithful day, I heard her elder sister over a loud phone conversation " Jane, u really have my time today that you didn't go to man's house" ". I cringed on hearing that . This is someone who said she doesn't sleep around because of the stereotype attached to being a single mom.
They both laughed about it and she told her sister that she was currently with a man. The sister said further " what of bros? He say he no do again or when he go engage u? " .
This time I felt the ground should open up . "Bros" is an elderly man in his 50's who wants to marry her. We had a fight that night and she denied that she had anything to do with bros and her sis was joking about her visits to men. We trashed it and made up with sex.
Next morning she was on call with a male friend who wanted to borrow money from her and she called him babe.
Note that, she's called a different male friend babe accidentally too and she quickly defended that she calls all her male friends "babe" . I told her it wasn't cool. She got defensive and even called another male friend and she told him I was jealous, they both laughed and she ended the call with " I love you and he replied too". We had a fight . I left and still came back to check on her. I was ignored while she was on call with her male friend for 30mins after which she invited him over with 2 other guys.
I asked why and what for. She boldly told me "whatever activities I have with my friends is not your concern , even if we have 10some " .
I was saddened because this was someone for once I was ready to risk it all to settle down with. She was probably entangled in something I never understood. I discovered that she clubbed on Sundays , and would never allow her daughter come live with her. The poor child has been living with her grandparents for 13yrs. My girlfriend also abused weed and alcohol. I saw all these in her fridge
THE PREGNANCY
I was broken by everything and kept my distance but we still spoke. Early this year, we both suspected she was pregnant since she missed her period. We did a test and I found out she was pregnant. 4weeks 8days but I doubted it was mine after all the recent discoveries. To cut the long story short she removed it and bled for days.
The disrespect and devaluation kept on going . I was mentally unstable for a while and took Ill. I couldn't resume to teach and I lost my job. My mother was angry with me for having anything to do with her.
I broke up with her cuz I realised what I had wasn't real. I realised I never did anything that bad to deserve all the treatments I received. I was supporting and loving and was even a father figure to her child .
I'm without a job now but I'll be commencing a technical training for a better job offer. I'm still unstable and hurt but I'll bounce.
I'm one of those guys who don't believe in playing nice because ive been hurt before. I broke my rules and was disarmed by the love I had for a child and I fell in love with a lie. But it's all good. I learnt my lesson. Guy, you should be happy for those discoveries, before you getting married to her, Nawao ooo, u dey fall in love with a single mother |

ChngedChnges: Small Build Update for My New 4S LiFePO₄ Setup
I originally planned to buy 4 pieces of used 12V 75Ah batteries for this build, but after thinking about longevity and reliability, I decided to switch to brand-new LiFePO₄ cells instead. I got a set of 4× 3.2V 314Ah prismatic cells from Valto, and honestly this was the best decision for the project.
Before trusting the ratings, I bought a shunt meter to run a full capacity test. The result surprised me — instead of the expected 314Ah, the pack delivered a solid 333Ah!. Total energy measured came out to be 4.26kWh, which is even above the standard 4kWh estimate for this configuration. The cells arrived well-matched and balanced, and the packaging and condition were all clean and professional.
Attached is a screenshot from my meter showing the test result. The cells behaved exactly like genuine, high-quality LiFePO₄ should.
I’m still working on the rest of the build - BMS wiring, enclosure (still waiting for my JK BMS). I used a simple unbranded 4s 100A BMS for the capacity test and discharged with 8 pieces of 12v 55W halogen car headlights connected in parallel
I’ll drop more updates as the installation continues.
(picture was taken after the BMS under voltage cut off) Great job 👍 How much did you get the cells and where did you get it |

Sellfish: This is my small contribution to the thread for those looking just to power TV, decoder, DC Fan, and charge phones..No inverter, no ups...just DC power straight to appliances....
I got a 19volt 32inch LG TV, an INEC 48ah blue battery and one of those 19volt Saiko 19/30 volt distributors...If you can't find the blue batteries, any 12 volt rechargeable battery will do..Lifepo4 preferably
The Saiko Distributor stepped up the battery current from 14/12 to 19 volts to power the TV..
Then I ran two different cable from the same battery which supplied 12 volts to both my fan and the decoder....Just to keep the decoder safe from overheating due to high voltage, I had someone run a 12 volt mosfet which stepped down the battery's 14.4 volts to 11.8/12 volts for the decoder.
Then I attached a female cable to a car charger in such a way that I could plug it into any of the 12 volt cables and charge my phones...by my estimate, only charging that way can charge my phone more than 30 times...
Powering the TV and decoder alone this way lasted for about 20 hours on a single battery charge.
Powering the fan alone lasted for about 36 hours with no reduction in fan speed...
Powering all together lasted about 13 hours
NB...TV power consumption measured by a watt meter is 16 watts...pics of the TV's model sticker, fan, and the DC converter is attached to this post...
Fan is an Itel 12-volt rechargeable fan....consumes 9 watts at low settings
I didn't bother measuring the decoder's power consumption because it obviously consumed so little...
I have sold the set-up due to relocation tho..but if for any reason I have to go off-grid, I will go totally DC... DC bulbs, DC TVs, Rechargeable sound systems, DC fans, etc...i hear there are even DC fridges these days....
Inverters are fast going obsolete for those who have simple power needs..They waste power, and are extra item to maintain and repair..
But if you need to power ACs, washing machines and other heavy household stuff with battery power, I don't think you can dodge Inverters...Very expensive Inverters and similarly expensive batteries And can the saiko DC distributor work with lead acid battery because you wrote lifepo4 |
