Politics / Re: Nigerians Without Prepaid Meters To Stop Paying Bills: NERC by bornaking(m): 10:37am On Jun 11, 2017
bornaking:
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reminded electricity consumers not provided with prepared meters by March 1 to stop paying electric bills presented by Distribution Companies (DISCOs) on the basis of estimated billing methodology.
The commission also ordered the DISCOs not to disconnect any such customer that refuses to pay the bills and further advised such customers to report to the commission if disconnected.
NERC gave the directive on Wednesday in a statement on its website and said it was part of its sanctioning of defaulting DISCOs who failed to provide meters for its customers before the March 1 deadline.
In line with its mandate of protecting the rights of customers, NERC had in June 2016 after consultation with the operators, directed DISCOs to conclude metering of all customers before November 30, 2016.
According to NERC, the commission at the expiration of that notice, granted three months moratorium which expired on March 1, to enable the DISCOs effectively execute the metering deployment plan for MD customers.
According to the statement, the sanction was sequel to the expiration of the initial directives by NERC and the moratorium period given to DISCOs to meter consumers.
The statement reads in part:
“A directive was issued to distribution companies by the Commission in June 2016 for all MD customers to be metered by 30 November 2016.
“The Commission received appeals on compliance deadline from distribution companies prior to the expiration of the 30 November 2016 deadline. The deadline was extended to 1 March 2017 after consideration of appeals received from distribution companies.
“Upon due consideration of facts above and the expiration of the compliance deadline granted to distribution companies on the metering of MD customers; the Commission hereby directs as follows –
“1. Any MD customer that was not metered by 1 March 2017 shall not pay any electricity bill presented by a distribution company on the basis of estimated billing methodology and these customers are advised to report this to the Commission.
“2. No distribution company shall disconnect any MD customer that was not metered by 1 March 2017 on the basis of the customer’s refusal to pay a bill issued after the compliance deadline on the basis of estimated billing methodology.
“3. Any MD customer that was not metered by 1 March 2017 should notify the Commission directly.

Politics / Re: Ango Abdullahi Is On His Own – Northern Elders Forum by bornaking(m): 10:03pm On Jun 09, 2017
Cooly100:
The Deputy Leader of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Elder Paul Unongo has said that Professor Ango Abdullahi is on his own in backing ignorant youths.

Unongo said Northern Elders Forum could not have adopted position of ignorant youths, who were not there when Nigeria lost three million of its citizens to the civil war they fought for keep the country as one united nation.

According to Unongo, “I am the Deputy Leader of the Northern Elders Forum and Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Sule is the leader. So, only the two of us can speak for the forum on sensitive matter like this. Therefore, if Professor Ango Abdullahi is backing those ignorant youths, then he is speaking for himself.

“We cannot support the nonsense those boys said. We fought civil war with our blood to keep Nigeria one. So, any Nigerian can live in any part of the country he feels like. Igbos are welcome in the North, they are welcome in Yoruba land and my own village in Tiv land and they have right to pursue their daily bread and own property.

“We couldn’t have killed three million people to keep Nigeria one and come back and allow these kids (the Northern Youth Groups) to insult our intelligence. We knew why we fought the war, we knew why we killed the people we loved. We knew why we made the sacrifice of three million men dead. So, Northern Elders Forum cannot take same position as those young men, if at all they took a position.

“So, if the young men cannot build a nation, they should not destroy the one we put our lives on the line to build for them. We cannot allow young men who did not fight the civil war with us to destroy our country, because Nigeria cannot afford another civil war,” he said.

Still no one has been declared arrested or persecuted for their utterances.
Hausa cannot be arrested by hausas for the crime they do to other tribes....meaning if they don't arrest them now don't expect thesame govt to arrest them on October 1 when the crisis begins.

Magu, chase these thieving bastards even to their grandmother's graves, Nigerians are strongly behind you.

Sons of dogs barking all over the places are nothing but nonentities who can't do more than dead rats.

Nigeria is not and has never been serious in fighting corruption. Who has ever been convicted?
The polity is corrupt itself and lack the mandate to fight corruption. set the polity right and corruption will be fought automatically without even sealing buildings to show off.

From BEDC to IKDC...to the rest of them scattered across the nation.
I have never experienced shortage of power ever like this since I was born.
I do not need to ask how people are fairing in various part of the country because I was in Lagos not quite long, right now I'm in Benin. it's the worse I have ever experienced.

Celebrities / BTV Unveils $5000 Africa Jollof Rice Challenge by bornaking(m): 4:44pm On Jun 08, 2017
lifestyle and entertainment television network, BTV , has initiated a competition that is elevating the recent controversy around jollof rice to a new level.
The Brand Television Network did this on Friday when it unveiled the African Jollof Rice Challenge.
According to the company, the project is a continental, lifestyle and entertainment taste tour and cooking contest that seeks to discover the country that has the best jollof rice in Africa.
The star prize is $5000, which is expected to be given on August 22, at the grand finale that will coincide with the World Jollof Rice Day.
On the rationale behind it, the Executive Producer at Btv, Felix King, said the argument on jollof rice had inspired social network and street conversations across Africa, especially among West African countries, where jollof Rice is most popular.
He said, “There is no official position yet on which country has the best jollof rice in Africa, hence, the Btv desires to unravel the mystery through this contest. None of the perspectives has proved convincing, despite Nigeria’s strong claims to the African cuisine. The different viewpoints on the streets have only generated more controversies and continuous placement of different points to back up individual claims.”
The jollof rice argument erupted when the Minister of Information, Tourism and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, was quoted as noting in an interview that the Senegalese jollof rice tasted better than Nigeria’s.
King, however, noted that the programme would celebrate the best of Africa in terms of its arts and culture.
“ Btv is a content generation and production organisation. It is a general entertainment and lifestyle audio-visual production and live theatre organisation that generates and showcases reality programmes, live drama, musicals, TV and radio shows with the philosophy that everything is a brand,” he added.
Another Executive Producer at Btv , Ororo Pattaya, explained that the challenge would start with an online recipe contest, where the best contestants would be selected for the live screening and then the grand finale.

The kidnappers, robbers, murderers, terrorists, ritualists and politicians are our common enemies. let's join hands together with love and fight them and make Nigeria a good place for all.
Let's the hatred cease.

Love, peace and unity is what we need.

I never knew there are still sensible people like you here on nairaland broda.
I was thinking nairaland would soon be hijacked by all this jobless people spitting nonsense about biafra and Afonja.
Well I got to know that Seun, mynnd, lalasticlala and the rest of them are making money from it and thereby not monitoring the comments about hatred thrown on this platform.
Wether anybody likes it or not Nigeria will forever remain one.
When the Ibos act sinsitive enough to fight for thier right and not for an unforeseen nation, then they would be taken seriously.

I wish it disintegrates because from my sojourn to many parts of this country, I found out that we do not think alike and the mindset of development is different for the different ethnic groups.

The north design their development the way the middle east designs their development while the southerners designs theirs differently. If we have different outlook to life, we will always have problems because to the northerners, corruption is the major problem while to the easterners, enabling environment is ours.

So if we do not get the enabling environment to showcase our capabilities, then we will continue to be stunted.

Nigeria was never met to be.
It just was never net to be. The separation between entities is just too adverse.
Everybody better be prepared for whatever comes their way.
