Crime › Nigerian Defence Intelligence Detains Brigadier-general, Officers Over Coup by Borrow2222(op): 9:37am On Oct 18, 2025 |
At least sixteen senior military officers have been detained by the Armed Forces of Nigeria for allegedly planning a coup d’etat to overthrow President Bola Tinubu, top sources have told SaharaReporters. A coup d'état is an overt attempt by a military organisation or other government elites to unseat an incumbent person or leadership. While the Nigerian military in a statement few days ago claimed the detention of the officers was linked to "repeated failure in promotion examinations and perceived career stagnation", top sources revealed that they were actually arrested over a coup plot. “The Armed Forces of Nigeria wishes to inform the public that a routine military exercise has resulted in the arrest of sixteen officers over issues of indiscipline and breach of service regulations,” the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau had said in an ambiguous statement. “Investigations have revealed that their grievances stemmed largely from perceived career stagnation caused by repeated failure in promotion examinations, among other issues. “Some of the apprehended officers had been under jurisdiction for various offences, either awaiting or undergoing trial. Their conduct was deemed incompatible with the standards of military service.” However, a senior official of the Defence Intelligence Agency involved in the arrest told SaharaReporters that the officers led by an Army Brigadier General were planning to stage a coup and take over government from “selfish politicians”. He said the coup attempt was thwarted after an intelligence gathering by the DIA and sister agencies. “The 16 officers were planning a coup. The military authorities were just being diplomatic in the statement released by the spokesperson. They have started doing secret meetings on how to overthrow the President and other top government officials,” the source told SaharaReporters. “They're all officers within the rank of Captain to Brigadier-General and are still in detention at DIA as we talk. They were picked recently at their various houses around the country. Their main objective was to overthrow President Tinubu and announce a military government.” Another source added that the October 1 Independence Day parade was cancelled because of the coup attempt. He said, “Yes, they were arrested for planning to stage a coup and take over government. That was the main reason why the Independence Day parade scheduled to hold on Wednesday, October 1 as part of activities marking the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary was cancelled. “This was because intelligence reports showed they planned the coup on October 1st during a military parade. So the National Security Adviser and other service chiefs asked the Tinubu-led government to cancel the parade earlier scheduled to mark the day. “Their plan was to shoot at the President and other top politicians during the event. The move by the military authorities announcing their arrests was to douse tension.” Since Nigeria became independent in 1960, there have been five successful military coups. Recently, there have been allegations of corruption in the military which some of the officers and soldiers have blamed for their loss of interest in the country's military. Crime › 3 Girls Among Kaduna Residents Killed By Bandits In Layin Danauta, Birnin Gwari by Borrow2222(op): 6:36pm On Oct 17, 2025 |
Three girls who are minors were among the nine locals killed by bandits in Layin Danauta village in the Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna State on Thursday evening.
A source who initially confirmed the attack in the village on Thursday informed SaharaReporters of the development.
The source said all three minors were children of one Alhaji Salisu Maiwada.
It was also gathered that among those killed by the bandits were five married men and a single young man, aside from the minors.
The source further explained that the majority of those injured are in critical condition and are still receiving medical attention.
SaharaReporters had reported that a heartbreaking and chilling report emerged from Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where bandits launched coordinated attacks on Thursday evening.
A resident of Birnin Gwari town, the local government headquarters, confirmed the incident, describing it as a well-coordinated assault by the attackers.
According to one source, the bandits surrounded Layin Danauta village in Kuyello Ward on Thursday evening, blocking all entry and exit routes while firing sporadically.
Another resident reported that by around 7 p.m., after the attackers had retreated, nine bodies were recovered, while about 13 injured persons were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Several villagers were also believed to have been abducted during the attack.
The source added that the full extent of the casualties might not be known until Friday morning, when search and rescue operations were expected to resume.
The recovered bodies are expected to be buried on Friday, either before or shortly after the congregational prayers. https://saharareporters.com/2025/10/17/three-underage-girls-among-kaduna-residents-brutally-killed-bandits-birnin-gwari

Crime › Ogun Village Head Attacked By Herders, Yoruba Group Lambasts Governor, Police by Borrow2222(op): 3:33pm On Oct 17, 2025 |
The Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, has issued a stern call on Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and the State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, to immediately apprehend and prosecute the herders responsible for the recent violent attack on Chief Oniyide Olubayo, the Baale of Balogun Village in Yewa North Local Government Area. A Baale is usually appointed by an Oba (king) to oversee a village, settlement, or smaller community within a kingdom. According to the group, Olubayo was reportedly attacked on Tuesday by herders while returning from Ilaro. Eyewitness accounts revealed that the village head had stopped by the roadside upon seeing a heated dispute between a group of farmers and herders. In a bid to mediate and calm the rising tension, one of the herders allegedly launched an attack, slashing Olubayo’s elbow with a cutlass before fleeing the scene. In a statement released on Friday and jointly signed by the Convener, Olusola Badero, and the Home Director, Princess Balogun, the Yoruba Union condemned what it described as the persistent failure of both the state government and security agencies to tackle the growing menace of herders’ violence across the state. “For far too long, Fulani herders have been terrorising our people. They invade farmlands, destroy crops, assault our farmers, and when challenged, they resort to brutal attacks — maiming, killing, and sometimes raping our women. Yet, no one has been held accountable,” the statement read. The union lamented that despite several reports of such attacks in remote communities across Yewa, Imeko, and other parts of the state, the state government had shown what it called “a disturbing level of indifference.” It accused Governor Abiodun and the police commissioner of maintaining “complicit silence” while Yoruba ancestral lands continued to come under threat. “Why should people migrating from other regions invade our homeland, destroy our farms, and harm our people, while the governor and police authorities remain silent?” the group queried. “If the governor and the police commissioner are not complicit through their inaction, they should immediately arrest those who attacked Chief Oniyide and bring them to justice.” The Yoruba Union emphasised that the Yoruba people, known for their civility and respect for law and order, should not be mistaken for cowards. It said the community’s patience was wearing thin and warned that continued attacks could force locals to resort to self-help measures. “Our people deserve dignity and respect. We are Omoluabi — law-abiding citizens — but we will not continue to fold our arms while invaders destroy our lands and livelihoods. The government must act now, or the people will take measures to defend themselves,” they said. The group urged the state government to adopt modern ranching policies, aiming to curb open grazing and prevent future conflicts between farmers and herders. It noted that cattle rearing is a private business and should not come at the expense of other citizens’ safety or livelihood. “Ogun State is not a banana republic. It is a Yoruba-speaking state with its heritage and traditions. If herders must rear cows, they should build ranches and operate within the law,” the statement stressed. Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá warns that if Governor Abiodun continues to show indifference to the repeated attacks on innocent citizens, he should resign from office and allow someone capable of defending the lives and properties of Ogun residents to take charge. “For years, our people have suffered attacks from herders without justice. If the governor cannot protect his people, he should step aside. The safety and dignity of the Yoruba people are non-negotiable," it said. The union also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and civil society groups in Ogun and across the Southwest to unite in demanding concrete action against what it termed “a sustained threat to Yoruba territorial integrity. Crime › Katsina Holds Peace Talks With Bandits Across Five Local Council Areas by Borrow2222(op): 5:41pm On Oct 12, 2025 |
The Katsina State Government has commenced a peace dialogue with armed bandits in Kakumi town, Bakori Local Government Area, as part of renewed efforts to restore lasting peace in the state’s troubled axis. The meeting, which began on Sunday, reportedly involves representatives of at least five local government areas, namely Bakori, Kankara, Funtua, Kafur, and Malumfashi, all of which have been affected by recurrent bandit attacks in recent years. Meanwhile, the dialogue aims to broker a ceasefire and secure commitments from the armed groups to halt hostilities in the affected communities. However, details of the discussions remain sketchy. Katsina, one of the states hardest hit by banditry in northwest Nigeria, has in the past experimented with peace deals with mixed outcomes. SaharaReporters previously reported that despite failing to renounce their criminal activities or surrender their weapons following a peace agreement with the Katsina State Government, the Chairman of Sabuwa Local Government Area, Engr. Sagir Tanimu, recently attended the wedding ceremony of children belonging to some of the bandits in the state. The event, held weeks after the peace pact, was reportedly part of ongoing reconciliation efforts between the government and the bandit groups operating in the area. Tanimu was said to have also joined Fulani residents in the forest for the wedding in Kadawan Dandume village, a community recently reconciled with the local authorities after years of violent clashes. Those who accompanied the council chairman to the event included the representative of the Emirate, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello Kogo, the Prince of Kogo Emirate in Katsina, and the District Head of Sabuwa. However, residents warn that true reconciliation can only be achieved when armed groups formally renounce violence and lay down their weapons. Crime › Carpenter Remanded For Raping, Killing Grandma by Borrow2222(op): 6:21pm On Oct 11, 2025 |
An Ondo State Magistrate Court sitting in Akure the state capital, has ordered for the remand of a man, Ahmed Toheed, for allegedly raping and killing his grandmother, Mrs Mulikat Sanni, in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The defendant was arrested by the men of the state Police Command after allegedly committing the offence on September 29, 2025 at Onisere Street of the community.
At the court, police prosecutor, Augustine Omhenimhen, said the defendant accused the deceased of witchcraft and being responsible for his misfortunes before strangling her and having unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
The charge sheet partly read, “That you, Ahmed Toheed on September 29, 2025, at about 10 pm, at Onisere Street, Ore, in the Ondo State Magisterial District, did unlawfully strangle one Mulikat Sanni aged 64 years to death, and did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of her, thereby committing offences contrary to and punishable under Sections 319 and 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.”
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence but the court did not take his pleas.
To this end, the prosecutor asked the court to remand him pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
But the defense counsel Benjamin Adeyanju sought adjournment to file a counter-affidavit.
Ruling, the magistrate, Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi ordered that the defendant should be remanded at the state CID and adjourned the matter til October 13, 2025, for further hearing. https://punchng.com/carpenter-remanded-for-raping-killing-grandma/

Crime › Uk-based Nigerian Lekan Adesoji Convicted Of Murder In UK by Borrow2222(op): 12:50pm On Oct 11, 2025 |
Lekan Akinsoji, a UK-based Nigerian, and Sundjata Keita of St Margaret’s Court, have been convicted of murdering Ahmed Deen-Jah in East London in 2017 by a UK court.
The UK police announced the conviction of the duo in a statement after they appeared at Old Bailey, the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, on Thursday.
“Lekan Akinsoji, 27, of no fixed address and Sundjata Keita, 27, of St Margaret’s Court, E12, appeared at the Old Bailey on Thursday, 9 October, where, following a four-week trial were found guilty of murdering Ahmed Deen-Jah in East London,” the police said.
The convicts will appear at the Old Bailey on October 24 for sentencing.
Kelly Allen, a detective superintendent, who led the investigations that span almost a decade, said, “Eight years on from Ahmed’s vicious murder, today his family finally have the justice they deserve. Akinsoji and Keita have spent years thinking they have got away with murdering Ahmed, a man who they had never met and didn’t know. They drove out to Custom House and attacked Ahmed who was simply going to the shops.”
They were first arrested after police investigations identified them as suspects in the 2017 murder. But they were later released due to insufficient evidence, as officers continued complex enquiries. According to the police, in 2023, an investigation review was carried out, which included a detailed phone analysis, placing Mr Keita’s phone inside the car used for the murder, travelling away from the murder. The car had travelled to Epping Forest following the murder, where it was later found on fire.
“An evidence package including forensic results from a knife sheath found close to the scene and DNA findings from the victim’s hand, which were both a match to Keita, was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service. Following this breakthrough, the men were rearrested and subsequently charged with murder,” the police said.
Their trial began on September 8, where the court heard how the victim’s murder was a result of “tit for tat” violence between gangs and that both men had been driving around the area in a stolen car, looking for people they suspected of being in a rival gang. https://gazettengr.com/uk-based-nigerian-lekan-adesoji-convicted-of-murder-in-uk/?tztc=1

Crime › Boko Haram Attacks Troops With Armed Drones, RPGs, Kills Four Soldiers In Borno by Borrow2222(op): 9:29am On Oct 11, 2025 |
Boko Haram Attacks Nigerian Troops With Armed Drones, RPGs, Kills Four Soldiers, Destroys Gun TrucksThe Boko Haram terrorists launched a deadly and coordinated assault on Nigerian Army troops in Ngamdu, Borno State, deploying Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), command-detonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and armed drones.
The attack, according to a release on Saturday, targeted troops of Operation HADIN KAI under the 29 Task Force Brigade, tasked with combating insurgency in Nigeria’s volatile North-East.
The military spokesman, Lt Col Sani Uba, said the terrorists aimed to overrun military positions and destroy critical platforms using a combination of firepower and unconventional warfare tactics.
Despite the intensity of the ambush, Nigerian troops held their ground in what military officials described as a "fierce and successful defensive operation."
However, the Army confirmed that four personnel were killed in action (KIA), and five others sustained injuries (WIA).
“The terrorists attempted to overwhelm our positions using RPGs, armed drones, and coordinated IED strikes, but our troops stood firm and responded with superior firepower,” said Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI.
“Unfortunately, we lost four brave soldiers, and five others were wounded.”
According to the Army, the attackers also targeted military vehicles, damaging several Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and Gun Trucks (GTs).
In an apparent bid to delay reinforcements and inflict further casualties, the insurgents planted multiple IEDs along the vital Ngamdu–Damaturu Main Supply Route (MSR), temporarily halting both military and civilian traffic.
Army engineers were quickly deployed to clear three IED-laden spots along the route. After successful clearance operations, the MSR was reopened to ensure the continued movement of troops and essential supplies.
“Security of our troops and the public remains a top priority,” said Lt. Col. Uba.
“Our engineering units acted swiftly to neutralise the threat and restore movement along the supply route. The area is now secure.”
Following the attack, troops received immediate logistical support, including ammunition and replacement tyres for damaged MRAPs, allowing them to maintain operational momentum in the theatre.
Intelligence gathered after the confrontation indicated that the insurgents suffered substantial losses. Credible sources confirmed that at least 15 bodies were seen being buried by Boko Haram fighters in pushcarts around Bula Wura, near Wasaram — a sign of the devastating impact of the military’s response.
To consolidate the gains and ensure Boko Haram fighters do not regroup, the 29 Task Force Brigade has launched aggressive fighting patrols and exploitation operations throughout the area. These efforts, military officials say, are aimed at “denying the terrorists freedom of action” and maintaining control over strategic points in the region.
The use of armed drones by Boko Haram marks a dangerous escalation in the insurgency, raising fresh concerns about the group’s growing sophistication and access to advanced technology.
Operation HADIN KAI was launched in 2021 as a revamped counterinsurgency operation to replace Operation LAFIYA DOLE. It aims to degrade Boko Haram and its splinter factions, including the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), which have been responsible for bombings, abductions, and attacks on civilians and security forces in the North-East.
Though significant territorial gains have been made by the Nigerian military in recent years, insurgent groups continue to launch asymmetric attacks, especially in remote communities and along strategic transport routes. https://saharareporters.com/2025/10/11/boko-haram-attacks-nigerian-troops-armed-drones-rpgs-kills-four-soldiers-destroys-gun

Crime › Gunmen Storm Idofin Odo-Ase In Kwara, Kill Three Residents; Villagers Flee Homes by Borrow2222(op): 6:15pm On Oct 10, 2025 |
Terror swept through Idofin Odo-Ase, a quiet community in Oke Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Thursday, after armed terrorists launched a deadly attack that left at least three people brutally murdered and forced residents to flee their homes in fear.
SaharaReporters obtained gory videos and photos showing the slain victims, two shot and one other stabbed, during the violent invasion that has again thrown the entire Kwara South axis into panic.
Witnesses told SaharaReporters that the gunmen stormed the community in the evening, shooting sporadically and attacking residents in their homes before escaping into nearby forests.
“They came suddenly, shooting and shouting. We ran into the bush, but three people were killed instantly,” a resident said.
“People are leaving the community this morning because we don’t know if they will come back.”
The community source added that no security operatives arrived during or after the assault.
“We didn’t see police or soldiers. The killers moved freely,” he said.
“Everyone is scared. Families are packing their belongings and running to nearby towns.”
In a similar report, SaharaReporters reported how bandits stormed Efagi village, under the Lafiagi Emirate in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, earlier on Friday.
The bandits kidnapped a man and his wife and injured a local vigilante.
The brazen attack, which occurred between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., underscores the ongoing security challenges facing rural communities in the region.
According to a resident who spoke to NupekoTV Lafiagi, the assailants opened fire indiscriminately as they entered the village.
During the chaos, the couple was forcibly taken from their home, while a member of the local vigilante group, who tried to fend off the attackers, was injured.
The situation prompted a rapid response from the Nigerian Army, with troops arriving at the scene shortly after the attack began.
The military reportedly engaged the bandits immediately, leading to the successful rescue of the kidnapped woman, although her husband remained in captivity.
"The Army arrived instantly and started engaging with them," the resident confirmed.
"They have reportedly rescued the woman from the bandits' hands." https://saharareporters.com/2025/10/10/breaking-gunmen-storm-kwara-community-kill-three-residents-villagers-flee-homes

Vision101: See my brother I'm an igbo and a landlord in Lagos. God helping me I'll like to build more. In Lagos it's not about land and it's not about building but it's about documentation backing up them. Lawyers will tell you that what makes you owner of a property is your document.
In Lagos to obtain full approvals to erect a building is a project of its own. It's rigorous and expensive. Most people particularly my people will not like to go through this route. The traders like to cut corners. This is what obtains in Aba.
The traders union is a powerful one. I'm pretty sure that if they have the documents and they feel that they are being treated unfairly they would have headed to court.
It's a contradiction to preach that a new Nigeria is possible and the same person is encouraging lawlessness. Let people learn to do the right thing no matter how difficult it might be.
When Fashola wanted to start the new Lagos Badagri expressway it was then that I knew that there are so many buildings without documentation in Lagos. So many were marked. The government gave a long time for filing of claims with genuine documents. Majority failed the test and they were pulled down from national theater to Okoko.
Let's do the right thing. We are saying the same thing. If the documents aren't up to date, you seal up the place until the owner updates their documents. I'm only against demolishing buildings when people are struggling to make ends meet in Nigeria. And that is exactly what PO is trying to say also. |

Crime › Bandits Overrun, Seize Six Machine Guns, 30,000 Rounds Of Ammo From Army. by Borrow2222(op): 5:10pm On Oct 05, 2025 |
At least six General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs) and more than 30,000 rounds of ammunition were seized from a Nigerian Army joint task force by bandits in Obanla, Kwara State, last month, SaharaReporters has learned.
According to security sources, the heavily armed gang that carried out the attack is the same group now terrorising parts of Kogi State, where dozens of residents have been killed in recent days.
The bandits reportedly ambush military units after receiving intelligence about their impending operations against them.
“Last month, six General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs) and over 30,000 rounds of ammunition were seized from the Nigerian Army in Obanla, Kwara State,” a senior military officer told SaharaReporters.
“It was seized by bandits from the Nigerian Army's joint task force. They're the ones that have now reached Kogi and are wreaking havoc.
“They killed 27 people in Kogi yesterday, but it was not reported.”
“Their modus operandi is to get intelligence of impending military response and ambush them,” one security operative familiar with the situation said.
Sources disclosed that while the Nigerian Air Force initially tracked the movement of the armed group, it later declined requests for sustained aerial support during the firefight.
The failure of the NAF to provide aerial support allowed the bandits to overpower the troops and cart away their weapons.
“The operation once again exposed the deep lack of synergy between Nigeria’s security agencies,” a senior military officer told SaharaReporters.
“The Army and the Police could not coordinate effectively, and even when the Air Force was invited to provide crucial aerial support, they simply refused to respond.”
According to sources, in the aftermath of the incident, the Kwara State Government was handed an old video clip of an aerial bombardment to circulate as evidence of a “successful operation.”
The footage was later found to be fake.
“The state governor was then given an old video of an aerial bombardment to circulate; this was later exposed to be fake,” one of the sources said.
“This is why insecurity persists, not because Nigeria lacks firepower, but because those entrusted with securing the nation are locked in rivalry, inefficiency, and institutional arrogance.”
SaharaReporters earlier reported that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s media aide circulated old photographs of NAF airstrikes in Borno State, falsely presenting them as recent military operations in Kwara.
The images were shared after bandit attacks in Oke-Ode and nearby villages in Ifelodun Local Government Area left more than a dozen people dead and displaced several residents.
Under growing public pressure, the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Olayinka Fafoluyi (popularly known as Solace), posted the photographs on Facebook, claiming they showed NAF air raids against terrorists in Kwara South.
However, a SaharaReporters fact-check confirmed that the images were from an air force operation under Operation HADIN KAI in Bula Marwa, Borno State, conducted in October 2024.
The photographs, originally published by PRNigeria, had no connection to the recent violence in Kwara.
Recent Attacks On Yagba West
SaharaReporters earlier reported on Sunday that no fewer than 27 people were killed on Saturday when armed bandits launched a brutal attack on several communities in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
A military source confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters, describing the attackers as heavily armed and in possession of sophisticated weapons.
“Bandits killed 27 people in Yagba West, Kogi State, just yesterday, and it was not reported. They invaded the area with heavy weapons,” the source said.
Yagba West, the home local government of Senator Sunday Karimi, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District and chairs the Senate Committee on Services, has recently come under a series of deadly bandit attacks.
For instance, on Friday, SaharaReporters reported that bandits struck early in the morning in Bareke, Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of the state.
SaharaReporters learnt that the assailants targeted a residential home around 2 a.m., abducting a woman and her two children.

BreconHills: I am here in Nigeria. In your imagination, it is impossible to choose being in Nigeria if I have children abroad.
I dont live in your mindset universe. Still validating my earlier submissions. APC is going well, so everyone should be here enjoying it. |
