CrimePolice Officer Abducted By Bandits In Kwara North, Colleague Escapes Ambush by Borrow2222(op): 6:05pm On Oct 02, 2025
police officer identified as Ezra has been abducted by bandits in the Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, sparking renewed fears over the safety of security operatives in the volatile Kwara North region.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Thursday, between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., while the officer was returning from duty in Patigi town and heading toward Lade.

Sources told Nupeko TV that Ezra, an indigene of Ndanakun community, was riding on a motorcycle ahead of a colleague when the attackers ambushed them and opened fire.

While his colleague managed to escape, Ezra, who was riding in front, was targeted, overpowered, and whisked away to an undisclosed location.

The source said the bandits were "shooting guns sporadically."

The abduction of a serving officer underscores the growing audacity of armed groups operating across Edu and Patigi, where residents have repeatedly raised alarms about rising insecurity.

As of press time, security authorities had not issued an official statement on the attack or confirmed whether rescue efforts were underway.

Earlier on Thursday, SaharaReporters reported the abduction of two brothers by bandits while working on their cassava farm in the Edu Local Government Area of the state.

The attack occurred on Wednesday at Bokungi Zambufu community under the Lafiagi Emirate. According to NupekoTV, eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the farmland and opened fire “sporadically,” forcing villagers to flee.

The two brothers were unable to escape and were taken away by the gunmen.

One of the victims was identified as Mohammed Mohammed, a prominent community figure and former President of the National Association of Nupe Students (NANUS).

The report noted that the incident has heightened fears among farmers in Kwara North, many of whom already face severe threats from recurring kidnappings.

Residents have accused authorities of failing to address the rising wave of attacks, warning that agricultural activities in the area are under grave threat.

CrimeBandits Abduct Youth Leader’s Sons In Daylight Raid On Kwara Village by Borrow2222(op): 7:35am On Sep 30, 2025
Panic has gripped Essanti village in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State after armed bandits abducted two sons of a community youth leader in a brazen daylight attack on Monday.

The victims were reportedly seized around 1:30 p.m. while returning from their farm.

Residents told NupekoTV that the abductors revealed to the victims that they were heading to Essanti after learning that villagers had begun fleeing the community out of fear of repeated night attacks.

A source who later communicated with the kidnappers disclosed that the attackers said abducting the youth leader’s sons would reduce the need for further night invasions, as the move was meant to intimidate residents and weaken the community’s resolve.

The victims, after confirming to their captors that they were from Essanti, were immediately taken hostage.

On Sunday night, bandits launched a violent raid on Marri Village in the Patigi Local Government Area of the state, leaving one person dead and another injured.

According to NupekoTV, the attack, which took place amid heavy rainfall between 9:00 pm and 11:00 pm, saw the assailants storm the community and make away with several motorcycles.

“However, the military responded swiftly to the distress call. With the prompt intervention of the Nigerian Army, all the stolen motorcycles were successfully recovered from the fleeing criminals,” the report said.

According to the report, the swift intervention brought some relief to residents, though security concerns continue to plague Kwara North.

On Sunday, SaharaReporters reported an attack in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

The Kwara State Police Command later confirmed that 12 vigilante members, including the Baale (Community leader) of Ogbayo, were killed during the armed attack on Sunday morning.

In a statement on Sunday, the command said the incident occurred at about 7:00 a.m. when gunmen invaded the Ogbayo area of Oke-Ode and opened fire indiscriminately.

“At about 7:00am today, armed men invaded the Ogbayo area of Oke-Ode, shooting sporadically. A combined team of police operatives and members of the National Forest Security Service responded swiftly to the scene, where they discovered 12 lifeless bodies of vigilante members, including the Baale of Ogbayo,” the statement read.

It added that the victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while four others who were injured were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The command assured that efforts were underway, in collaboration with the military and the National Forest Security Service, to track down those responsible.

Elfidel:
Ganduje Accused of Diverting Kano’s 20% Stake in N4bn Dry Port Project

A fresh investigation has linked former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to alleged diversion of public assets in the Dala Inland Dry Port project. According to Premium Times, Ganduje is accused of secretly transferring the Kano State Government’s 20 percent equity in the multi-billion-naira project into private hands, including those of his own children.

The report claims that documents show the stake, which Kano acquired in 2006 as part of efforts to position the state as a regional trade hub, was quietly moved out of government control. Some of the new beneficiaries named in the filings were allegedly Ganduje’s relatives, who later became co-owners and directors of the dry port company.

The investigation further alleges that, not long after the controversial transfer, a contract worth more than N4 billion connected to the project was awarded to a firm tied to the same family-linked shareholders.

The Dala Inland Dry Port, designed to serve as a customs-recognized port of origin and destination, has long been touted as a strategic project for northern Nigeria’s economy. Its development was meant to boost trade efficiency, reduce congestion at seaports, and open up access for businesses in Kano and neighbouring states...continue reading https://gistandmore.com/gandujes-children-hold-20-shares-in-kanos-n4bn-dry-port-project/

CrimeBandits Kill 10 Vigilantes, Kidnap 5 In Oke-Ode, Kwara by Borrow2222(op): 2:59pm On Sep 28, 2025
At least 10 members of local vigilante groups, including forest guards, have been killed, and five others abducted after terrorists suspected to be armed bandits launched an attack on Oke-Ode community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Residents said the assailants stormed the agrarian town in large numbers in the early hours of Sunday, engaging the vigilantes in a fierce confrontation.

SaharaReporters learnt that the vigilantes, who have long served as the first line of defence for rural communities in the absence of a consistent military presence, were reportedly overpowered by the attackers.

A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows several lifeless bodies lying in pools of blood as grieving family members and sympathisers gathered around them in anguish.

A source in the area described the situation as “terrible,” lamenting the sudden withdrawal of Nigerian soldiers who had previously been stationed nearby.

We don’t know why they withdrew the soldiers. Now our people are exposed. We learnt that 10 people were killed and five were kidnapped. The situation is now terrible,” the source said.

The incident has heightened fear among villagers who rely heavily on vigilante groups for security in the face of recurring bandit attacks in Kwara South and North of the state.

Confirming the attack, the press secretary to Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Rafiu Ajakaye, described the killings as devastating. Writing in a WhatsApp group, he said the situation is devastating beyond words.

"This is sad. Devastating beyond words. Pls be patient. It could have been worse without the effort of the forest guards. Three guards died, one got injured. Many of the attackers also died," he said.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that bandits had abducted a local businessman, Suleiman Ndana, during a midnight raid on the Tsaragi community in the Edu Local Government Area of the state.

The attack occurred around midnight when the gunmen stormed the area, targeting Ndana, who recently built a new fuel station in Yana Kokonna, Tsaragi.

Residents said the attackers operated for several minutes before whisking him away to an unknown destination. His abduction has since thrown the community into fear and uncertainty.

CrimeBandits Abduct Businessman In Midnight Attack On Kwara Community by Borrow2222(op): 11:21am On Sep 28, 2025
Bandits have abducted a local businessman, Suleiman Ndana, during a midnight raid on Tsaragi community in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The latest attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in Edu Local Government and other parts of Kwara State, where residents have repeatedly called on security agencies to strengthen surveillance and protection in vulnerable rural communities.

Also, last Friday morning, bandits attacked two brothers working on their farmland in Lema community, in the Edu Local Government Area of the state.

One of the victims was killed on the spot, while the other sustained severe, life-threatening injuries.

According to reports by Nupeko TV, the assailants stormed the farmland, located just a short distance from the main settlement.

The injured survivor was taken to the hospital for emergency medical care.

Also, last Friday, SaharaReporters reported that troops of the Nigerian Army had killed a suspected arms courier who was transporting assault rifles into a Kwara State community and recovered a large cache of weapons hidden inside a sack of charcoal.

According to a military statement obtained by SaharaReporters, the operation was carried out by troops of 22 Armoured Brigade under Operation Park Strike V during a snap checkpoint along the Share–Gbugbu Road in Edu Local Government Area on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

Acting on what was described as “credible intelligence,” soldiers intercepted a Volkswagen Golf 3 with registration number Bayelsa SAG-133 XA. The driver, who attempted to escape, was immediately neutralised by troops.

A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered five AK-47 rifles and three magazines stuffed inside a charcoal sack to evade detection.

Military sources revealed that the suspected courier had been tracked from Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State, a notorious hub for banditry and arms trafficking, before being intercepted in Kwara at about 8:30 a.m.

CrimeBandits Kidnap Yashashi Water Factory Owner In Kwara State by Borrow2222(op): 5:40am On Sep 12, 2025
Bandits have invaded Gbugbu community in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting the owner of Yashashi Pure Water factory.

A source who spoke to SaharaReporters said the incident happened on Thursday afternoon, throwing the community into panic.

The attackers, who stormed the area in large numbers, reportedly whisked the victim away to an unknown destination.

Residents said the abduction heightened fears of insecurity in the local government, where cases of kidnapping have become increasingly frequent.

SaharaReporters previously reported that terrorists, locally dubbed as bandits, launched a deadly overnight attack on a settlement in Bokungi, Tsaragi community, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing one person and rustling several cows.

SaharaReporters gathered that the incident occurred around midnight and into Wednesday morning, leaving residents in shock and fear.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the assailants stormed the community at about 12am, shooting sporadically to scare residents before carting away dozens of cattle.

One of the sources explained that the attackers targeted the Fulani settlement belonging to Alhaji Garuba and Alhaji Mumini, where Mumini’s first son was reportedly killed during the raid.

The source said Alhaji Mumini’s son, Muhammadu, who had just married a month ago, was killed.

Meanwhile, when the bandits were unable to force open Alhaji Garuba’s door, they went straight to rustle all his cows.

The source told SaharaReporters that the bandits came through Bokungi and moved straight to the settlement.

The source noted that the bandits started firing into the air and everyone began running for safety. They took away many cows and left destruction behind.

According to the source, "They came around 12 a.m. when the kidnappers entered through Bokungi and moved nearly 700 Fulani cows, shooting as they went. They passed through Fengewa before vigilantes and Nigerian soldiers attempted to intercept them, but as of now I don’t know if the soldiers and vigilantes succeeded.

"Alhaji Garuba and Alhaji Mumini were affected, with Alhaji Mumini’s first son killed by them. The stolen cows are estimated to be nearly 1000. People are asking why the Nigerian Army made no real effort."

Residents further explained that as the attackers advanced through Fengewa, the gunshots alerted local vigilante groups and security operatives, who mobilized quickly to confront them.

A combined team of vigilantes and Nigerian Army troops engaged the bandits in a brief exchange of fire, but it remained unclear by Wednesday morning whether any arrests were made or if the stolen cattle were recovered.

"We got a call this morning from Shegbe that they saw some cows and had stopped them,"another source said.

The killing has heightened fears in Edu Local Government and surrounding areas, with residents lamenting the rising wave of insecurity in parts of Kwara.

Community members also expressed frustration that the attack happened while Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was reportedly away on vacation abroad, leaving locals to rely heavily on vigilantes for immediate protection.

A deadly bandit raid in Kokodo village, Edu Local Government Area, has claimed the lives of four people and left two others kidnapped.

The attack occurred late Thursday night, around 11:40 p.m., targeting a group of local hunters who tried to fend off the assailants.

According to a resident who spoke with NupekoTv, three hunters were killed on the spot during the clash, while a fourth victim, who sustained severe gunshot wounds, died Thursday morning while receiving treatment.

The attackers also abducted two community members before fleeing the scene. The identities of the deceased and the kidnapped individuals have not yet been disclosed.

This incident adds to a growing pattern of violent attacks in Kwara North, where communities continue to live under the threat of banditry.

Residents of Kokodo have expressed deep concern over their safety and are urging authorities to establish a stronger and more permanent security presence to prevent further tragedies.

Meanwhile, on September 2, 2025, SaharaReporters reported that the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Muhammad Kudu Kawu, had issued threats against journalists and media practitioners over constant reports exposing the rising insecurity in Kwara North communities.

A source within the emirate, who spoke to SaharaReporters on condition of anonymity, revealed that the monarch summoned journalists to his palace on Sunday, where he warned them against further reporting incidents of terrorism and bandit attacks in the area.

“On Sunday, the Emir of Lafiagi summoned all the journalists and media practitioners to his palace and warned them not to report insecurity issues in our land again,” the source disclosed.

According to the source, the Emir claimed that he was acting on the orders of the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The intimidation comes amid growing concerns over repeated attacks by bandits in Lafiagi, Patigi, and other parts of Kwara North, where residents have been kidnapped, killed, or forced to pay ransom to terrorists operating freely.

“You know that the Kwara State Government has once threatened The Informant247 not to report insecurity issues in Kwara North,” the source further said.

“The governor said SaharaReporters, Nupeko TV, and The Informant247 are exposing the government of Kwara State because their reports on insecurity in Lafiagi and Patigi have been embarrassing Governor AbdulRahman.”

CrimeBandits Continue Assault On Kwara Communities, Kill Worshipper/attacking Mosque by Borrow2222(op): 4:13pm On Sep 02, 2025
Gunmen, suspected to be bandits, have killed a 45-year-old man, identifed as Alhaji Dahiru, during an attempted abduction at a mosque in the Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The incident occurred on August 30 at about 8:30pm while worshippers were observing the Ishai prayer.

According to eyewitnesses, about seven armed men stormed the mosque and attempted to abduct Dahiru.

However, the victim reportedly resisted the attackers, prompting them to shoot him dead on the spot before fleeing the scene on motorcycles.

A security expert, Zagazola Makama disclosed this on his X handle, stating that residents reported the recovery of two empty AK-47 ammunition shells at the scene of the incident.

Family members of the deceased have appealed for the release of the corpse to enable burial in line with Islamic rites.

SaharaReporters has repeatedly reported on the rising wave of insecurity across Kwara State, from the northern to the southern parts, where bandits have been abducting vulnerable residents and demanding ransoms.

Many communities in the state have been deserted due to persistent killings and kidnappings, forcing residents to abandon their ancestral homes.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that journalists and media practitioners in Kwara State are currently under severe intimidation as the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Muhammad Kudu Kawu, has issued threats against them over constant reports exposing the rising insecurity in Kwara North communities.

According to him, the Emir claimed that he was acting on the orders of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State.

“The Emir really threatened them and said he is passing the directive of the Governor. He said if the journalists did not listen, he may end up arresting them,” the source added.

The intimidation comes amid growing concerns over repeated attacks by bandits in Lafiagi, Patigi, and other parts of Kwara North, where residents have been kidnapped, killed, or forced to pay ransom to terrorists operating freely.

“You know that Kwara State Government has once threatened The Informant247 not to report insecurity issues in Kwara North,” the insider further alleged.

“The cash had only three serial numbers: ₦500,000 (235923), ₦300,000 (235922), and ₦200,000 (235921), all wrapped in a transparent plastic parcel sealed with tape,” he added.

When questioned, the driver claimed he was acting as a courier, having received the package from an unidentified person in Ojota, Lagos, and was instructed to deliver it to Osogbo, Osun State, without being given the recipient’s name or contact information.

He also said he was told the parcel contained body cream.

Osifeso reassured the public that the police remain committed to combating currency fraud and other financial crimes that threaten the economy and community safety.

He added that investigations are ongoing and urged citizens to report suspicious activities.

“We call on the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement in curbing financial crimes,” he said.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening when Akesinro was reportedly taken away from his residence at Upenme, in the Owo Local Government Area, at approximately 7 p.m., according to The Nation.

A senior labour leader from the National Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), who confirmed the incident but asked not to be named, stated that the matter had already been reported to the security agencies.

In a message circulated among union members, he expressed shock over the abduction and warned that members might embark on protests if urgent steps were not taken.

“As a union, we have always stood strong in advocating for the welfare and security of our members. In light of this unfortunate event, members of NUAHP may need to declare a day of protest in Owo to demand the immediate and safe release of Pastor Akesinro,” the message read.

Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, also confirmed the case, assuring that security operatives were already on the trail of the abductors.

The Kwara State Police Command said on Friday that it has launched a discreet investigation into the alleged armed robbery attack which occurred on Rore/Arandun road in Irepodum Local Government Area of the state, which claimed two lives on Thursday.

This is another incident of gunmen’s attack in the district that has been troubled with banditry and kidnapping in the recent time.

The Police in a statement signed on Friday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire -Adeyemi, on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Adekimi Ojo, said that “two people were killed allegedly by the same gang of gunmen at different locations while carrying out their criminal operation around Rore and Arandun communities.”

One of the victims, according to the statement, was said to be a 40-year-old security guard at a residence in Rore, who was said to be shot while preventing the gunmen from breaking into the residence.

The other was described as a 38-year-old driver of a vehicle passing through the highway from Ora community in Osun State with loads of farm produce.”

“He was said to have been shot dead while a passenger in the vehicle sustained a serious injury,” the statement said.

Ejire-Adeyemi, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said corpses of the two victims had been deposited in the mortuary while the police had commenced an investigation into the matter.

The statement reads: “The Kwara State Police Command confirms an unfortunate armed robbery and culpable homicide incident which occurred at about 06:30hours of Thursday, 28th August, 2025, along Rore/Arandun highway, Irepodun LGA. Armed hoodlums attacked the residence of a businessman, Mr Oyetoyan Dare, during which his private security guard, Mr Wale Ajiboye, aged 40, was fatally shot while resisting their attempt to gain entry into the residence.

“In a related development, the same gang ambushed a vehicle conveying farm produce from Ora in Osun state; the driver, Mr Taiye Yebi, aged 38, who was unaware of the robbery incident, while driving past, was fatally shot, another passenger sustained minor injury.

“Police operatives swiftly responded, recovering expended and live ammunition from the scene. The corpses of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue while investigations are ongoing.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo PSC, has ordered a discreet investigation and reinforced patrols within the area to forestall recurrence. The Command reassures the public that normalcy has been restored, and perpetrators will be apprehended.”

Concerns had been raised by stakeholders about the level of insecurity in the south district following incessant occurrences of banditry, kidnapping and some other forms of attacks by gunmen on the residents.

The state government, working with security agencies, has been responding to the attack by mobilising for greater security in the district.

However, many residents were still seeing the government’s efforts as other yet enough, as they have called for intensification of the efforts to find a permanent solution to the crisis.

A group of youths from the district recently called for the deployment of military force and imposition of curfew to end insecurity in the area.

The youths made the call under the aegis of Kwara Youth Development Organisation, Kwara South Consultative Youth Forum, Igbomina Youth Assembly and other Kwara South community-based youth organisations.

The youths at a press conference in Ilorin decried the insecurity in the district, saying the wave of killings had created daily fear and panic.

Their spokesperson, Engr. Ajibola Olugbenga, while mentioning the havoc the insecurity has wreaked in the district, said the bandits used weapons more sophisticated than those of the local security men and that if no urgent action is taken, the gunmen may soon overrun both rural communities and urban centres in the area.

He stated, ” Kwara South is bleeding. Our communities are under siege from bandits, terrorists and heavily gunmen who kill, maim, abduct, and destroy without remorse. We have lost revered traditional rulers such as Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole, the Olukoro of Koro-Ekiti in Ekiti LGA, as well as countless hunters, vigilantes, and community leaders who stood to defend their people.

“The wave of killings has created daily fear and panic. Farmers can no longer access their farmlands; traders and travellers live in terror; and families are fleeing ancestral homes that have existed for centuries. Communities such as Oreke, Babanla, Ganmu-Alheri, Bankole, Sagbe, Ologomo have now been deserted, and many others are gradually being reduced to ghost towns. With farmers displaced, a major food crisis looks threatening not only to Kwara State but also to urban centres across Nigeria that depend on Kwara South for agricultural produce.

“Our hunters and local vigilantes, who serve as the first line of defence, are being systematically targeted and killed. The bandits wield more sophisticated weapons than the crude rifles available to our people. The implication is clear: If nothing is done urgently, the terrorists will overrun not only rural communities but also urban centres, plunging Kwara into uncontrollable chaos. This is no longer a local challenge; it is a national security emergency.”

While acknowledging past efforts of the government and the traditional rulers who have spoken against the menace Olugbenga said, “We do not need rhetoric; we need action. We do not need promises; we need protection. The Kwara State Government under Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Federal Government, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must understand that what we face in Kwara South is nothing short of terrorism.

He said the youths demanded immediate and heavy deployment of military forces into Kwara South to restore order, dislodge bandits and secure the communities, while there should be a full military base and not mere occasional patrols in the affected axis.

The youth spokesperson asked that a 12-hour curfew from 6pm to 6am in the most affected communities be imposed to allow military operations to flush out the criminals.

He urged an emergency security operation to be treated as a matter of national urgency with military surveillance, air support, and combing of forests where terrorists are hiding.

Olugbenga requested that community hunters and vigilantes, who remain the first line of defence for the people, should be provided with modern arms and logistics.

He called for the creation of a joint security task force with federal, state, and local government alongside youth representatives to ensure coordinated response and accountability.

He urged swift federal intervention programmes to rehabilitate displaced persons, rebuild destroyed communities and prevent further mass migration.
