Australian police on Saturday said they had reports that "multiple people" were stabbed at a busy shopping centre in Sydney.
The incidents occurred at the sprawling Westfield Bondi Junction mall complex, which was packed with Saturday afternoon shoppers.

The mall has been locked down and police have urged people to avoid the area.

New South Wales Ambulance told AFP one man had been shot dead by police. He is believed to be one of the attackers.

The motive was not immediately clear.


Eyewitnesses said there was panic at the scene, with shoppers running to safety and police trying to secure the area.

Several people took shelter in a supermarket, where they remained for about an hour.

The sound of police sirens and helicopters filled the air.

Security camera footage broadcast by local media showed a man running around the shopping centre with a large knife and injured people lying on the floor.

The leader confirmed the killing of his three sons ands grandchildren would not affect Hamas' demands in ceasefire negotiations with Israel.

Three sons and 'several' grandchildren of Hamas' top leader, Ismail Haniyeh, have been killed in an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip, relatives and official Hamas media said today.

Reports state that Hazem, Ameer, and Mohammed Haniyeh were killed alongside family members in a fatal strike near the Shati refugee camp in Gaza City.

The Hamas political chief confirmed the deaths to Al Jazeera.

'I am grateful to God for the honor he has given me in the deaths of three of my children and a few of my grandchildren,' Haniyeh said, from Qatar.

'My sons were awarded this honor. They remained with our Palestinian people in Gaza, did not leave and did not run,' he added.

The terror leader hit out at Israel, stating they are 'driven by the spirit of revenge' as he claimed around 60 members of his family have been killed since the start of the war.

He claimed his family was targeted while driving in a car near the Shati refugee camp in Gaza City.

The terror chief said: 'Through the blood of the martyrs and the pain of the injured, we create hope, we create the future, we create independence and freedom for our people and our nation,' the terror chief said.

The three brothers - Hazem, Ameer and Mohammed - were travelling with family members in a single vehicle targeted by an Israeli drone, Hamas' Al-Aqsa TV said.

It revealed a total of six people were killed, including a daughter of Hazem Haniyeh, and a son and daughter of Ameer.
Ismail Haniyeh, who now lives in exile in Qatar, is originally from Shati.

The deaths were confirmed by Hamas' Al-Aqsa TV station as well as Haniyeh family members on social media.

However, Haniyeh stated that the killing of his three sons ands grandchildren would not affect Hamas' demands in ceasefire negotiations with Israel.

'The enemy believes that by targeting the families of the leaders, it will push them to give up the demands of our people,' he said.

'Anyone who believes that targeting my sons will push Hamas to change its position is delusional.'

There was no immediate comments from the IDF.

It comes after the Hamas Chief said last Wednesday that his Palestinian Islamist movement at war with Israel was sticking to its conditions for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, including an Israeli military withdrawal.

Israeli officials visited Egypt at the start of last week in a bid to secure a deal, but a Palestinian official close to the mediation procedure said there had been no signs that a breakthrough was underway.

The body of a hostage held in Gaza has been recovered, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Saturday.

“The body of hostage Elad Katzir was rescued by security forces overnight from Khan Yunis and returned to Israeli territory,” the IDF said in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Katzir was taken on Oct. 7, the same day Iran-backed Palestinian militant group Hamas mounted an attack on Israel, and the war in Gaza began.

“Elad Katzir was abducted from Kibbutz Nir Oz by the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization during the October 7 Massacre,” the post continued. “His mother, Hanna, was also abducted by IJ and released on November 24, and his father, Avraham, was murdered in the kibbutz. According to intelligence, Elad was murdered by IJ in captivity.”

The announcement comes more than a week after the U.N. Security Council passed its first resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war, with the U.S. abstaining.

The resolution called for the immediate release of all hostages held by Iran-backed Palestinian militant group Hamas, and for a cease-fire during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

“Our mission since the beginning of the war has been, and remains, to locate and bring the hostages home,” the IDF post continued. “We will continue to operate until it is complete.”

The news of the Katzir’s recovered body comes just over a week after The New York Times published an interview with a hostage who said she was sexually assaulted while held by Hamas.

Militants belonging to the Jaish al-Adl group carried out deadly attacks on a number of police bases in southern Iran overnight Wednesday-Thursday.

Three security personnel, including the deputy of a police station, have been killed in "terrorist attacks" in Iran, state media reported Thursday, two days after seven Iranian Revolutionary Guards were killed in an air raid in Syria.

"Three security members have been martyred in several night-time terrorist attacks on military stations in the cities of Rask and Chabahar" in southeastern Sistan-Baluchistan province, Alireza Marhamati, deputy governor of the province, told state TV.

"In one of the attacks on police station number 11 of the city of Chabahar, deputy of the station Abbas Mir, was martyred," state broadcaster IRIB said, adding that a number of assailants were also killed or injured.

It also said that the jihadist Jaish al-Adl group, which was formed in 2012 and is blacklisted by Iran as a "terrorist" group, claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The attacks came less than 48 hours after an airstrike on the Iranian consular annex in Damascus killed seven Revolutionary Guards, two of them generals.

"The terrorists did not succeed in their goal of capturing the Guards headquarters in Chabahar and Rask and are under siege," Deputy Interior Minister Majid Mirahmadi told state TV.

"The terrorists are stationed around these headquarters and are shooting blindly, with the courageous members of the Guards and the police are confronting them," he added.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the ideological arm of Iran's military, has numerous stations in Sistan-Baluchistan province, which borders Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The province has for years faced unrest involving drug-smuggling gangs, rebels from the Baluchi minority, and Islamist extremists.

In December, 11 officers at a police headquarters in Rask were killed in one of the deadliest attacks in years.

And last July, two policemen and four assailants were killed in another attack on a police station in Zahedan, the province's capital.

Zahedan, one of the few Sunni-majority cities in predominantly Shia Iran, was also the scene of months-long deadly protests that erupted in September 2022 over the alleged rape of a teenage girl by a police officer.

The deadly clashes in the city occurred as Iran faced nationwide protests following the death in custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, an Iranian Kurd arrested for an alleged breach of the Islamic republic's strict dress rules for women.

Hundreds of people were killed during the months-long rallies, including dozens of security forces, and thousands were arrested.

Nine men were executed in cases linked to the demonstrations which were labelled as foreign-instigated "riots" by Iranian authorities.

Israeli security forces arrested the sister of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tel Sheva on suspicion of having ties to Hamas and engaging in incitement and support for terror, Israeli media and the Israel Police reported on Monday morning.

The police statement identified the detained suspect as a close relative of a senior member of Hamas. Media reports noted that the relative was 57-year-old Zebah Abdel Salem Haniyeh.

The operation, dubbed “Early Dawn,” was conducted via a multi-department effort. The police-Shin Bet joint operation culminated in the arrest of Haniyeh in an early morning raid carried out by police, border police, IDF, and the Israel Police aerial unit.

During the raid of Haniyeh’s home compound, security forces reportedly found documents, media, phones, and other evidence indicating her participation in serious security offenses.

According to the police, Haniyeh is set to be brought before the Beersheba Magistrate's Court later on Monday to seek an extension of her detention.

Commenting on the arrest operation, Southern District Commander Superintendent Amir Cohen emphasized that no effort would be spared in the war against terrorism and that every asset available would be used to ensure peace and security for Israeli citizens.

Later on Monday, Israeli media reported Haniyeh would be detained until April 4.

Israeli troops have pulled out of al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City, according to witnesses who spoke to the BBC.
The medical facility was first raided two weeks ago after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had intelligence indicating Hamas was using it as a base to launch attacks.

Heavy fighting has been reported around the hospital, the largest in Gaza, in recent weeks.

Hamas denies using medical sites to carry out military operations.

Following the withdrawal on Monday, Palestinian media reports said dozens of bodies were found in the vicinity of the complex, citing witnesses and the Hamas-run health ministry.

The BBC has not verified those reports. But the World Health Organization (WHO) has said 21 patients have died in al-Shifa in the past two weeks, while Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said more than 200 "terrorists" were killed.

When the raid was first announced, IDF chief spokesman Daniel Hagari said "Hamas terrorists have regrouped inside al-Shifa hospital".

The IDF said then it was launching a "high-precision" operation on the grounds of the hospital and urged displaced civilians sheltering on its grounds to leave immediately.

Witnesses reported heavy gunfire and tanks surrounding the facility when the raid began in early hours of the morning on 18 March.

Al-Shifa was raided earlier in the conflict after Israel said it had evidence that hostages captured during the 7 October attack were taken there.

Israel has long accused Hamas of using civilian health infrastructure as a cover to launch its operations, which the Palestinian group refutes.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, head of the WHO, has described the situation at al-Shifa hospital as a "siege".

In a post on X - formerly Twitter - made prior to the troops withdrawal, he said more than 100 people were still inside al-Shifa struggling with a lack of food water, and medical supplies.

But Mr Netanyahu has reiterated that al-Shifa was a "terrorist lair" and praised the efforts of Israeli soldiers for conducting a "precise and surgical" surprise attack.

The Israeli PM made his remarks on Sunday night prior to entering surgery to treat a hernia discovered during a routine check-up.

Early on Monday his office said the operation was successful and Mr Netanyahu was "in good shape and beginning to recover".

The surgery took place amid demonstrations held in Jerusalem fuelled by mounting anger over his government's handling of the war in Gaza. Thousands took to the streets demanding more action to free hostages.

Around 130 people - at least 34 of whom are presumed dead - are still unaccounted for after Hamas's 7 October attack on Israel.

Mr Netanyahu is under pressure from some in Israeli society who believe there has been insufficient progress in rescuing the remaining hostages inside Gaza. His office had said Mr Netanyahu and his wife were meeting with the families of female soldiers still unaccounted for.

Also on Sunday, seven journalists - including a freelancer working for the BBC - were injured in an Israeli air strike on the grounds of al-Aqsa hospital targeting the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) group.

The IDF hit a building in the grounds of the hospital which it said PIJ was using as a command centre.

Four members of the PIJ - which is allied with Hamas and participated in the 7 October attack - were killed, the IDF said.

He is charged with removing or mutilating human remains.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for an attack at a large concert hall in the Moscow area that left at least 40 people dead and nearly 150 injured on Friday.

The attack began when gunmen donning combat gear burst into Crocus City Hall, where concertgoers were gathering to hear the Russian band Picnic, and opened fire.

The gunmen also threw explosives inside the concert hall during the attack, which set the building on fire, Russian media reported.


People were being evacuated, but some remained trapped inside the burning building, Russian media said.

Russian Rosguardia (National Guard) servicemen responding to the scene of the attack.

The Islamic State made the claim on its affiliated social media channels, although Fox News Digital has not been able to independently verify it.


Before ISIS claimed responsibility, Russian officials said the incident was being investigated as a terrorist attack.

Gunmen opened fire inside the building and dropped explosives that set it on fire, according to Russian media.

Russia's Investigative Committee said it has opened a criminal probe into the attack.
