The guy no try at all. If u were the one who did same to him, he would never forgive and forget no matter how long. I can imagine how uncomfortable u were sleeping inside ur car till 3am. What if the next day was work and u had to go to the office, fever due to lack of night sleep would have crept in.

Consequent and sequel to the above thread I made yesterday which garnered lots of engagements, comments, counter-comments and reactions and which also graced the Frontpage of Africa's Most popular and most visited interactive forum, Nairaland, I was prevailed upon to also balance it by creating a counter thread asking us "what is the Most annoying thing that a Host has ever done to their Visitors".

I know most hosts would never agree to have done anything annoying to their guest/visitors. They own their space and they feel they are always right, even when they are wrong.
Personally, I've had the worst experiences as a visitor who was severally mistreated by my hosts. As a young man who hadn't had his own apartment, I was always a guest to friends and relatives. My hosts did me a lot that I can't completely mention them here. Till date, I'm wary of visiting people, because, whenever I visit people, I'm always too careful not to encroach or undermine their Authority. Since it is not my house, I'm mindful of how I eat, where I go to and when I should return back. Even when using the restroom, I must ensure I don't fart to the hearing of my host. Some of you can relate to what I'm saying. Na visitor shit dey always smell, their own no dey smell.
I traveled to Ibadan and my host asked me to look for where I can sleep and pass the night for three days, and that his Babe was coming on a visit and my presence would disrupt a lot of intimate activities between them. It was a room self-con. I didn't know anyone else In Ibadan apart from my host. I felt really bad and had to call a friend to loan me money so I could lodge in a hotel for two days. The third day, I went back to my host. There was no show of remorse from him, he didn't even ask me where I slept and I also didn't bother to tell him.
I would be in the room watching his GOtv and he will come from nowhere and change the channel without even asking me first. Sometimes I felt sad within me. He's even a relative for that matter. I felt illiteracy on his part played a major role cos he never attended even a secondary school.
I would clean, mop and wash the entire house everyday and immediately he returned home, everywhere would be messed up. He would go out, drink Beer and eat roasted fish, then come home to mess the restroom up. Throughout my five months stay with him, I slept on cold tiles. I wasn't even free to share same mattress with him.
Like I said, I have a lot to say, but this space won't be enough. It is well.

I hosted him when he got a job in the town i lived in. I left the gate key with him bexause he usually returned home before me Guy went out one night and drank beer, went home, locked the gate from inside and went to sleep. I came back and gate was locked as usual. Called him over 30x he didnt pick. Used everything available to bang on the gate still no response. Was afraid that something happened to him outside. And he was new in town. I slept in my car on the street. He woke up around 3am and saw my multiple calls then he came out. He woke me up and started begging. I didnt even answer him. Was so annoyed.
The same person emptied my kitchen utensils when he got a house and packed out. When i confronted him his response was that since he saw i wasnt much of the cooking type he felt i didnt need them so he took them for his use.

The guy get mind o. What.ttttt...

She was a friend's younger sister. They asked I accommodated her for two weeks, pending whenever she's done with what she came to the state I was living at.

During her stay with me, she'd be the last to get off from the bed but, she won't lay the bed. I will be in the kitchen and cook all alone, while she will gladly eat, lick her fingers, and drop the plate/s for me to wash afterwards, and also, she doesn't even sweep the room. I endured until the 2weeks elapsed, and she wasn't showing any signs of leaving.

Sometimes, I deliberately allow myself to be trampled upon but when I react, it's always bad. I'm so calm and humble that I can allow a younger friend to send me on errands, I can even be greeting someone who doesn't greet me because he feels too big to greet me, but the day I'm fed up, I go blast u without mincing words

No! It’s bad manners. As a guest, you don’t live here, you don’t know the condition of my appliances. You can’t just go switching on things without asking.
If I go to anyone’s home or office, I’ll always ask before turning on anything. What are you saying? Is this even an argument?
If you’re hot, ask for the ac to be turned on or if you can turn it on. Very simple request: “can I turn on the ac?” Or “is the ac functional?”

Please Don’t use this overzealousness to go and burn somebody’s home o or even finish the little unit of electricity they’re managing. Always ask. It will not kill you to ask first.

It wasn't like you were cold and he was feeling heat. He was the only one in that room at that particular time. This person could be your friend or relative o.
Please learn to treat people right. I'm sure that visitor doesn't have ac in his house, if he had AC in his house, you wouldn't look down on him this way.

My brother, I went to work only for me to come back, I heard someone in my house telling me to go and pass the kitchen that the entrance is locked, when I entered my wife's friend a visitor is doing photo shoot in my living room, she invited a photographer they set light and one useless black umbrella scattered in my parlor.

Dem no dey use perfume o, but once they see free perfume, Dem go POUR everything for body. Some will even go and spray it on their unused clothes that are in the wardrobe or travel bag. So annoying

Had a cousin live with me once. I gave him my bedroom and I slept on the sofa. He paid no rent, apparently assuming the government paid citizen's rent, and would eat everything left in my pot after I ate.

One eay I went to Peckham, bought fish and Guinness and went home to cook rice and dodo. As I was eating, he arrived and asked if I'd taken all I want so he can eat the rest as je normally would, but I told him I hadn't, and would be eating it all as I didn't cook any for him. All the Guinness was mine too, I said, which shocked him as I usually share. "Oh", I said, "and when I finish, I'd like a word please".

"Did your family (my maternal) tell you my family owes you and you should come and collect", I asked. That's when he told me he thought the government was feeding me and paying my rent.

"So, when you see me go to work l, What's that", I asked.

We decided he'd be paying rent and would contribute to electric and water and buy his own food or pay for mine if he eats it. He stayed for 5 years and sensitised the 8 other people who stayed with us in that time.

He did run up my landline with calls to America so I got a £200+ bill. I called the person, got number from itemised bill, and found out it was his friend before confronting him. He said he thought it would not count because the phone was locked and he'd found a way around it.

What experiences have you had with some of your strangers in your own house?

Sometimes, strangers and visitors encroach and overstep their boundaries by doing some things that are stranger than they themselves. When you tell them to "feel at home", you're inviting trouble. I still remember how a stranger cooked my food in my absence, finished the food, washed the dishes and acted like he didn't cook anything in my absence. I was really shocked. Same stranger ransacked my documents, I didn't know what he was looking for. Why invading my privacy for crying out loud?

This 12 noon talk is so stupid when elections actually close at 3pm. In the days of military option A4 electoral systems mean that by 12pm you queue behind your preferred candidate and the voters are counted usually around 12pm...now elections end at 3pm in the closed ballot system.
