Court Orders Final Forfeiture Of £578,080 Stolen From NIMASA

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the final forfeiture of the sum of £578,080.00 to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Justice Saliu Saidu who made the order of final forfeiture held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had shown that the funds were proceeds of unlawful activity.

The EFCC had in December 2017 approached the court through an exparte application argued by it’s counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo.

The court had granted an interim forfeiture of the funds after Mr Oyedepo testified that the money sought to be forfeited is reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities of a maritime firm, ZAL Marine Limited.

The EFCC counsel also alleged that the sum was stolen by the maritime firm through some employees of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

The EFCC specifically mentioned a Macfoy Irene who was said to have used her position as an Assistant Director and Head of Nigerian Seafarers Development Program to facilitate the fraudulent transfer of the sum of £1,074,600.00 from NIMASA’s Zenith Bank (UK) Account to an offshore account belonging to Swiss Bulk carriers S.A under the false Pretenses of training 54 Nautical Science and Marine Engineering Students on Sea Training on 16th March, 2013.

The money was said to have been transferred from NIMASA’s Accounts without any parastatal or Ministerial Tender Board Approval or Contract.

ZAL Marine Limited then allegedly received and retained the sum of £578,080.00 out of the transfer made to Swiss Bulk Carriers, S.A.

I saw a thread this morning and had to voice my opinion. There is this thread earlier today about about a guy drinking alcohol while reading Quran. The thread was removed or hidden. I really think that is a good move by the moderators. It is ok not to insight violence from bias religious posts on social media. My concern however is how nairaland has been used to launch attacks on Christianity.
If daddy freeze says something 'logical or not' it hits front page without being deleted.
If someone is burning the bible, it hits front page without regret.
Being Christians doesn't make us less of a human. Is there a religious witch-haunt ? Men will always be men, whether a Jew, A muslim or a Christian. I believe if what i practice works for me and i am at peace both within and outside my person so much so that my neighbours are are peace with me, I have every right to have my belief respected and not attacked.

Troops of 72 Special Forces Battalion and 177 Guards Battalion in the early hours, Wednesday 31 January, 2018, while on joint clearance operation along Benue and Nassarawa State border, were alerted on the presence of unidentified armed militia. It was confirmed that the criminals were, setting houses on fire in Igacha village, about 4 kilometres away from Kadarko town.

Troops responded immediately by mobilizing to the area to stop the arson and apprehending the perpetrators. The militia on sighting troops, abandoned their mission, scampering for safety in different directions. However, the troops neutralized one of the assailants, while others escaped with gun shot wounds.

A cordon and search operation is still in progress in the general area with the view of tracking the fleeing armed criminals.

Consequently, inhabitants of the general area are please requested to be in the look out for such wounded persons and report to the security agencies.
