Career / Re: Have You Hawked Before? by brainpowerng(m): 4:11am On Feb 11, 2022
I started hawking in 1991...

Started when dad was making soap and then polythene bags. The soap wasn't selling well so my sister started cooking rice, wrapped in leaf and I'll hawk into Oje market in Ibadan. At some point, we ate our working capital and nothing to hawk again. Sometime in primary 3 or so, myself and my immediate younger brother started hawking cassava peel "epo ege". I would hawk in my secondary school uniform even though I was a prefect. Hawked handkerchief and envelopes at Winners Chapel in Alimosho Lagos and Canaanland. Worked as houseboy, salesboy too and the list is almost endless.

I've slept on the road, in the market and with the strangest of strangers. I've fed from dog's plate, worked without pay, ate only coconut and garri for months till my poop turned whitish oily.

Today, I still hawk not going about with a tray of cassava peel on my head but using well articulated skills to help people solve property related problems.

Family / Re: Have You Ever Regretted Being Married To Your Partner? by brainpowerng(m): 2:10pm On Dec 06, 2020
I believe I'm eligible to offer you my one cent on the above-mentioned topic.

I've been married for more than 10 years to a woman I love always. I can tell you a lot about women because I have a grandmother, a mother, a sister, a wife and even a daughter. They are uniquely created by God in a special way.

You see, a lot of people will always get it wrong when it comes to marriage because they entered into it without a purpose. They got married just to get a license to fornicate! But I tell you this, a time is coming in your marriage when sex will stink to you, your spouse will beg for it and you won't have any urge at all. But what keeps the marriage going? Purpose!

I got married to my wife because she perfectly complements my inadequacies as I am to her her. I saw that we could work/walk together to attain my purpose/set goals in life and Walla! we're married.

Has my marriage been the bed of roses? Far from it! I've once felt like running away before, yes you read me right!

Every marriage is a work in progress, your abilities would be tested, it's a journey and not destination in itself. Do you want me to shock you? There are some levels of attainment in life that would be impossible without a woman pushing you.

Above all, build yourself an impeccable character, know what you want and pursue it for without a purpose, abuse is inevitable.

I could write for all eternity on my experience in a 10-year old marriage, but let me rest here.

Nairaland / General / Re: The Snake I Killed In The Toilet This Night by brainpowerng(m): 7:09am On Mar 02, 2020
That snake has been living in your house since it was a baby. They are excellent at living among humans and can hide a lot. Your house was become unconducive and it tried escaping. It's a very venomous snake.

It's either you are:
1. Living within a newly developed neighborhood
2. You have a poultry nearby
3. Your environment is mashy or waterlogged

P.S: If bitten by this snake accidentally, eat raw onions (about 3) as quickly as possible. The effect is magical!

There may be more lurking around your apartment than you know.

Be careful!

Education / Re: Henry Suubi: Viral Photo Changed Makerere University Student's Life In Uganda by brainpowerng(m): 2:08am On Oct 26, 2019
If this story was shared in a church as a testimony, many people will not believe it. God can use ANYTHING to enthrone or dethrone ANYONE.

obamartins:
Have You Ever Witnessed Someone's Life Fully Change In One Instant? See This.

God can turn your mockers' attempt to ridicule you to a blessing. Don't allow people to put you down, no matter what. Now here is the Story.

Meet Henry Suubi. The boy who reported to university with only a empty metallic case and racksack.

August 2019 this poor boy reports for his first day at Makerere University, the main University in Uganda and one of the biggest in Africa. He arrives carrying his luggage to his attached hall of residence, while other kids are being dropped off.

Henry is not aware that his life is about to change dramatically. Coming from a poor background, deep down in the village, he is the third born in a family of eight children raised by a struggling single mother. Henry is lucky to have scored well in his high school exams and the government awarded him a scholarship to study Bachelor of Science in education. Upon Henry's uncool arrival at campus another cool kid takes his photo and then uploads it on social media to mock this village-belly to earn likes and comments. Well, the photo goes viral!

That's how Henry Suubi met God.

A Ugandan senior journalist employed at BBC commits to run a campaign on twitter to change Henry's life. From then up to now, Henry is still receiving gifts. Let me outline a few I have on my fingertips

First, he is invited to the chancellor's office and the chancellor promises him any parental help he will ever need while at university

- A private company has offered to pay for his dream course (Bachelor of science and mechanical engineering) for all the three years

- Restaurants and hotels have committed to give and deliver him lunch and dinner all his three years of the university.

- Several companies have promised and given him shopping

- Henry received over 10 laptops from individuals and companies including his first smartphone

- Designer boutiques have given him clothes and shoes and they promise to do this all through his campus life

- Did I mention that Henry has already got a job, oh engineering companies promised him jobs and internship even before his first university assignment

- The French embassy and ambassador have given him a fully paid trip to Paris whenever he is ready

Well, the list is endless, including getting free sponsorships for his young siblings at home.
I hope I have answered your question. He later met with the boy who took the photo.

Literature / Re: Please, Recommend a good book for a depressed fellow. by brainpowerng(m): 7:08am On Dec 01, 2016
Let me tell you the truth. No book can cure or alleviate depression because the depressed would not have motivation to read in the first place.

However, the best bet is to visit a psychologist or psychiatry department in any hospital.

But, Holy Book (Bible or Quran) has been sources of tremendous help. It may be the only book that would be the very present help in time of need.

Untreated depression has caused untold hardship to the patient and we'll wishers. Suicide may result from it as well.

Depression should not be take lightly. My one cent!

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: How Reliable Is Peace Corps Of Nigeria Job? by brainpowerng(m): 7:10pm On Jul 31, 2016
As for me, I cannot ascertain if peace corps would be absorbed by Federal Government or not. But my concerns are these:

1. The federal government is currently struggling to pay existing workers and we think adding more workers would solve the problem?

2. Even if Fed Govt was to absolve peace corps, the commandant general might have employed more than necessary number of applicants than government can handle.

3. The fact that the draft has passed the second reading does not necessarily mean it would be adopted.

PS. Peace Corps is an international VOLUNTEER organisation.

Religion / Re: My Experience With Muslims In Business by brainpowerng(m): 7:19pm On Jun 10, 2016
SirWere:
Yes, yes, the usual thread made by a muslim-in-disguse claiming to be a Christian saying how muslims are better than their christian counterparts to the extent that they seem to sh!t roses and how much "honest kind loving" they are over their Christian counterparts....

And then Muslims will flock this thread, saying that's the real teaching of Islam (is it, I read the quran once.........and was disappointed. I thank whatever Deity my father wasn't Muslim); and that how "a few(over a million killed due to these bad eggs......and still they grow, something must be wrong) bad eggs does not mean their religion is evil" and all that tripe.

And oh yeah, you might find an actual christian who has never actually encountered muslims except for the cornerside Aboki or their Gateman say "Yes, Islam is not bad at all." If he is honest enough, he might add "the muslim I know are good people".

And yes, you'll probably have some dude make a wisecrack like "yet millions of people are killed, who's deceiving who" only to have Muslims descend on him, calling him a fanatic, saying people were killed in the old testament, shouting you're not cultured and all that nonsense for saying the truth.

The thread might actually garner enough traffic to hit FP and reach page 32 with all sorts of comment.

And then, when 13 brilliantly written counter threads are open, NONE will make FP and Muslims will appauld calling it horribly predijuced and all sorts of names.....

We know all this, we've seen it before, so go ahead, lie for your religion, say Muslims are good and Islam is a great religion.
Only we all know that's a lie you tell yourself to feel better and that Islam is still a horrible accident that has caused way too much trouble and espouses all sort of nonsense.

So, lie, feel better, it's the same shit all again undecidedundecided

The tread says: "share your own experience" not argue "your point". I am a Christian, live a christian life and die a fulfilled Christian life IJN.

I just wrote my business experiences with Muslims, would it hurt to share yours in simple english?

To be candid, I love the Muslims I've met, not the ones you read or see on Aljazeera, CNN and BBC.

Auki:

Muslim are told that on the Judgement day Man is entirely responsible for his deed. Thus nobody died for your Sin as Lord is not a tyrant ruler.

"On the Day when every person will be confronted with all the good he has done, and all the evil he has done, he will wish that there were a great distance between him and his evil." ( Quran, Surat Al-Imran, Verse 30)

The bolded is written everywhere in the Bible. Its just that most Christians are not really true worshippers of God. If you ask a regular church-goer why he is a christian and goes to church, you will see that many of them are forced by problems and economic hardship to serve God.
Religion / My Experience With Muslims In Business by brainpowerng(m): 10:02am On Jun 10, 2016
I am an Estate Surveyor, buying, selling and letting of landed properties for clients. And I am a Christian.

For the past 8 years in this profession, I have had business relationships with both Muslims and Christians and below are my experiences:

1. Muslims are more likely to tell you the truth than Christians in business: Most Christians will say the truth to brag (I'm born-again) while the Muslim counterparts tell the truth naturally.

2. A Muslim is more likely and willing to help: Christians are filled with fear, envy and hatred. I have 2 Muslim landlords who have committed properties worth millions in my care and they didn't even bother to know my office. But there's a certain RCCG Deaconess who gave me an abandoned/dilapidated house to manage after she had thoroughly done a background check on me. Many of them like that.

3. A Christian will likely cheat you than a Muslim: Muslims believe in consequences of actions and giving of accounts of things done on earth to God. A typical Christian will lift up a bible to swear and defraud you.

There are many experiences to share but its not easy typing with a phone.

Are my observations wrong?

Please share your experience!
