Health / 16 Foods That Causes Cancer (1) by Bravo123: 9:58pm On Aug 08, 2017
It’s probably not something you think about every day, whether or not the foods you are eating could contain carcinogens, but with almost 1.5 million people diagnosed with some type of cancer just last year, perhaps it’s time to look at what is in our foods that could be causing such a huge number of new cancer patients. Here is a list of the top 16 foods that you most likely consume every day that may contain carcinogens or be suspected of causing cancer.

Canned Tomatoes
While fresh tomatoes are actually considered to be the cancer-fighting foods, those canned ones are nothing like that. Actually, most canned foods are a concern because of what the can is lined with. The lining of almost all canned foods are made with a chemical called bisphenol-A, or BPA.

A study published in May of 2013 by the Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences showed that BPA actually affects the way genes work inside the brain of rats. Even the FDA agrees that there is a problem with BPA as it is supporting efforts to either replace or at the very least, to minimize the amounts found in canned foods. You know it must be bad when even the very lax FDA is concerned!

Tomatoes are believed to be exceptionally dangerous due to their high acidity, which seems to cause BPA to leech from the lining of the can into the tomatoes themselves. The level of BPA can be so high in fact; you should seriously consider not feeding them to children. Due to FDA laws, there are no standards for labeling BPA so simply because a can does not say it has it does not mean that it does not contain BPA. Be safe and avoid cans. Cook fresh or buy glass bottles...

Politics / What Ibrahim Magu Told Me - Saraki by Bravo123: 11:59pm On Aug 01, 2017

According to Saraki, he had a personal encounter with the Acting EFCC boss during the reign of President Goodluck Jonathan when the anti crime agency was under pressure from some quarters to investigate him and his colleagues from the National Assembly.

Saraki said, “As an individual, I have had a personal experience with Magu, where he stood up for what is right.''

“I remember during the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, where because we were fighting some of the issues then, some of us were sent to the EFCC...

Politics / Nigerian Military Incapable Of Holding Recaptured Territories From BH- US by Bravo123: 2:54am On Aug 01, 2017
The United States Department of State is concerned that the Nigeria Military is unable to effectively secure and hold onto territories recaptured from Boko Haram terrorists despite the successes recorded by the Multi-National joint task force, MNJTF.

The conclusion is contained in the United States country report on terrorism for the year 2016 submitted to the US Congress in compliance with the title 22 of the US Code.

The report, published on July 19, highlights the successes and failings of the Nigerian Army in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists, indicates that the Federal government’s progress report on the fight against terror is merely a duplication of failed efforts carried over from the end of last year’s fighting season.

It says the Nigerian government has not been able to rebuild civilian structures and institutions in areas captured. Just as it has not been able to rescue the remaining Chibok school girls abducted in 2014...

Politics / Survey: 57% Of Nigerian's Approve Of President Buhari's Job Performance by Bravo123: 1:53am On Jul 25, 2017
Despite his health challenge, President Muhammadu Buhari’s performance in the last two years has been rated 57 per cent.

The administration has broken five promises and achieved seven, a report has said.

But the “number of achieved and ongoing election pledges has increased from one to seven, and 45 to 114 respectively in year one and year two”.

The approval rating of the anti-corruption war of the government has, however, stood “fairly high at 52%”.

The economic agenda of the Buhari administration was faulted due to its “inability to translate several monetary and fiscal policies to economic growth and development”.

The administration was cautioned against the use of dialogue and negotiation in dealing with Boko Haram insurgents.

The government’s  refusal to obey several court orders demanding the release of a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki(Retd), Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife Zeenat was also described as  a “serious blight on the administration’s commitment to the rule of law.”

On the agitation for Biafra, the government was urged to go beyond dialogue and negotiation by redressing the developmental issues raised by the Igbo...

Education / FG Bows To Pressure, Reinstates CRK, IRK As Separate Subjects In Schools by Bravo123: 2:30am On Jul 21, 2017
The federal government has bowed to pressure and reversed the decision to merge Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK) with Islamic Religious Knowledge (IRL).

The Minister of State for Education, Anthony Anwuka at a meeting with commissioners of Education and stakeholders in Abuja on Thursday said the reversal became necessary given the controversy the policy change generated in the country.

Politics / When Fayose Becomes President — What Will Be Your Excuse? by Bravo123: 3:14pm On Jul 18, 2017
By Mayowa Tijani

So the United States of America, one of the best democracies in the world, slept on November 8, 2016, and woke up to have Donald John Trump as its president. Many would have put their very last penny on that being totally impossible, but impossible came out as “I’m possible”.

The pundits, experts, analyst and even journalists said it was a joke taken too far. Today, the joke is on them. What was initially considered a joke, became a real competition in a two-horse race, and now, the president of the world’s most powerful nation.

Today, that same joke is playing out in Nigeria, however differently; Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state is not Donald Trump. He is not a billionaire, but he is a governor and the loudest voice in Nigeria’s opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Unlike Trump, Fayose may not have white supremacist support his bid to lead Nigeria, but he also has fraternised with groups in Nigeria, who may play the same demographic role as Trump’s white supremacists. And in a democracy, the vote of a fool is the same as that of a wise man. A professor of political science has one vote as that young bus conductor. Therefore, the numbers are the only things that matter here, eventually.

Fayose began testing the waters when he began telling journalists at different interviews that he was not satisfied with the leadership in play at the Aso Villa. He then took it a step further by saying he is destined to be president and “one day” he will be president.

“It was the same prophecy that said I would return as governor of Ekiti when I was in the trenches that predicted that I will govern the whole country,” Fayose said in February...

Culture / CRK, IRK Controversy: How We Pushed Goodluck Jonathan To Accept Policy- Sultan by Bravo123: 1:05am On Jul 16, 2017
The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar, has explained how religious leaders in the country pushed the Goodluck Jonathan administration to change the status of Christian and Islamic subjects in school curriculum.

The two subjects, previously optional, are now core for students of respective faiths.

Mr. Abubakar spoke amid controversy that has trailed the decision, with Christian leaders demanding a reversal of the policy.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, accused the government of attempting to “Islamise” the country by bringing both subjects under a new subject called Religion and National Values.

The Christian Elders Forum, a group that also includes former military generals, backed the call on Thursday...

Politics / Nigeria On The Verge Of War Over Plot To Impose Sharia - Danjuma, Xtian Leaders by Bravo123: 5:31am On Jul 14, 2017
Nigeria's retired Generals and other Christian elders rose from a meeting on Thursday under the umbrella group, National Christian Elders Forum to warn that the country is on the verge of another bloody civil war.

They, therefore, called on Nigerian leaders to trade carefully to avoid the impending anarchy.

Romance / MouthAction Producing Unstoppable Bacteria by Bravo123: 2:13am On Jul 07, 2017
MouthAction is producing dangerous gonorrhoea and a decline in condom use is helping it to spread, the World Health Organization says.

It is warning that if you contract gonorrhoea, it is now much harder to treat and in some cases impossible.

The sexually transmitted infection is rapidly developing resistance to antibiotics.

Experts said the situation was "fairly grim" with few new drugs on the horizon.

Around 78 million people pick up the STI each year and it can cause infertility.

The World Health Organization analysed data from 77 countries and it showed gonorrhoea's resistance to antibiotics was widespread.

Dr. Teodora Wi, from the WHO, said there had even been three cases - in Japan, France, and Spain - where the infection was completely untreatable...

Travel / ‘I Thought I Was Going To Die’: Nigerian Jailed And Ransomed In Libya by Bravo123: 12:55am On Jun 23, 2017
It was called “Morning Tea” – a brutal flogging with a hosepipe.

Every morning for four months, Seun Femi’s captors beat him at a makeshift prison in Libya.

“They would flog my head, my hands, my bum,” says the 34-year-old. “The guard would beat me until he got tired.”

Two of Seun’s fingers were broken during one of the brutal sessions. But the Nigerian says it could have been far worse. One man was beaten to death in front of him.

“I thought I was going to die in that prison,” he says.

Seun was one of the tens of thousands of West Africans who cross the Sahara Desert into Libya every year, from where they hope to be trafficked by boat to Europe.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) estimates there are between 700,000 and one million people in Libya awaiting their chance to cross the Mediterranean.

It was always a dark and desperate journey but now appears to be increasingly dangerous as undocumented migrants fall prey to militias and criminal gangs in war-torn Libya.

Earlier this year, the IOM reported that African migrants were being sold by their captors in “slave markets” in the south-western Libyan city of Sabha...

Experts are offering some answers.

Education / FG Denies Alleged De-listing Of Christian, Islamic Subjects by Bravo123: 12:03am On Jun 21, 2017
The Nigerian government has reacted to the controversy over alleged removal of key religious subjects from the country’s education curriculum.

The acting Executive Secretary of Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), Kate Nwufo, denied claims that Christian Religious Studies and Islamic Studies had been removed from the curriculum, or were now studied as a single subject.

“We have developed a curriculum on Religion and National Values to expose pupils to see relationship between moral values – which entails religion, social values – and civic values,” Mrs. Nwufo said.

She said the NERDC developed the curriculum in partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, the country’s largest Christian body, had claimed that CRS, specifically, had been dropped from the latest curriculum, leaving only Islamic studies.

“If you look at the curriculum, you will see that the religious subjects were removed for unknown reasons,” President of CAN, Samson Ayokunle, had said in an interview....

Politics / Igbo Don't Need Biafra, Better To Mend Relationship With The North- Okorocha by Bravo123: 10:19pm On Jun 20, 2017
The Governor of Imo State, South East Nigeria, Mr. Rochas Okorocha once again has reiterated his belief and conviction that the Igbo don't need Biafra.

Okorocha who has come under intense criticisms from Biafran agitators over his previous stand on the Biafran question has instead called on the Igbo to mend their relationship with North. He argued that the Biafran agitation does not make sense given the contributions of the Igbo to the development of the country.

“I do know that when the chips are down, they (IPOB) won’t be anywhere to be found.”

He said the three-month quit notice given to the Igbo was inciting and could cause disaffection between the southeast and northern regions.

“While I blame the Arewa youths who may have acted under provocation and taking the matter beyond scope, the statements were also very inciting and can create disaffection between the north and southeast,” he said in a statement issued on his behalf by Sam Onwuemeodo, his chief press secretary

“For the purpose of those who have forgotten, in history, the southeast and north have enjoyed a good political relationship, especially in the days of Shagari. We have been seen as allies and partners politically....

Crime / I Paid $1.2m To Evans: James Uduji by Bravo123: 11:26pm On Jun 17, 2017
James Uduji, the Chairman of Cometstar Cable Manufacturing Limited was kidnapped by the Evans gang for 42 days in 2015. And to get his freedom, he paid the gang $1.2m, the highest ransom ever paid by any of Evans victims.

Uduji narrates his traumatic experience:

How he Was Kidnapped

On September 2015, as I was coming back from my factory in Agbara to my home in Festac, arriving Seventh Avenue, I saw four gunmen. They stopped in front of my vehicle and started shooting while I was with my two drivers in my Hilux pickup.

I was sitting at the back, thinking they were policemen. I was wondering why they were shooting and charging at us not knowing that they were kidnappers. In the process, they shot us, me and two of my drivers but luckily, nobody died. I still have a bullet in my body.

By the time I realized they were kidnappers, they dragged me out of my vehicle to their own Lexus 470 Jeep. Inside their Jeep, there were lots of arms and ammunition inside a box. They had another box at the back where they put me in.

Four guys were inside that Jeep, well-armed, even the driver had his own AK-47 rifle. They drove past Festac Link Bridge to Amowu-Odofin, around 4:30 pm as if they were going to Okota. Later, they came out to Oshodi -Apapa Expressway. By this time, they had not blindfolded me but they pushed my head down, lying bare on the floor of the car.
