PoliticsRe: The Cryptic Message In The Economist 2015 Cover by Bre(f): 4:06pm On Sep 27, 2015
I've seen this cover a few months back on the vigilant citizen website. What I found most disconcerting were the co-ordinates to a remote region in northern Nigeria on the two arrow quivers bottom right... It was particularly alarming as I had seen this cover a few weeks before the elections and wondered if they had intended to use mass attacks to disrupt the true political process.

In any case, they ended up using underage voters to accomplish that.

Apple Inc. Buys Nigerian Born Chinedu Echeruo’s Hopstop.com For $1 Billion

Apple has acquired Chinedu Echeruo’s HopStop.com, The Wall Street Journal’s publication, AllThingsDigital reports. Founded in 2005, HopStop.com makes mobile applications for both iOS and Android that covers over 300 cities and that helps people get directions or find nearby subway stations and bus stops. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed as at the time of this publication.
Chinedu Echeruo, formerly an analyst at investment banks and hedge funds founded HopStop in 2005. Echeruo is now Chairman of the Board for HopStop.

HopStop has oft been compared to Israel’s Waze which was recently acquired by Google for $1 billion. The move is seen as Apple’s plan to bolster its map offering especially given Google’s recent acquisition of Waze.
A serial entrepreneur, Chinedu Echeruo grew up in Eastern Nigeria and attended Kings College, Lagos. He attended Syracuse University and the Harvard Business School in the United States and founded HopStop.com after working for several years in the Mergers & Acquisitions and Leveraged Finance groups of J.P Morgan Chase where he was involved in a broad range of M&A, Financing and Private Equity transactions.
He also worked at AM Investment Partners, a $500 million volatility-driven convertible bond arbitrage hedge fund.

He founded and raised nearly $8 million for his two U.S based internet companies; Hopstop.com andTripology.com. Tripology.com was acquired in 2010 by American travel and navigation information company, Rand McNally. He was named Black Enterprise Magazine’s Small Business Innovator of the year and listed in the magazine’s Top 40 under 40 and is currently a partner and head of the Principal Investing group at Constant Capital, a West Africa based investment bank.
True to form, Echeruo is working on yet another venture but this time, focused on small businesses in Africa. Check out a video of Chinedu Echeruo below at last year’s TedxIkoyi where he talks about his latest project for small businesses in Africa; “crowd sourced business in a box.”
According to him:
“There is no reason why every entrepreneur should have to reinvent the wheel every single time in all the countries in Africa. My idea is to essentially to have one place where a budding entrepreneur can access a template for starting a business, and then customize it to suit their own situation. Essentially a business-in-a-box.”

It's absolutely hilarious to find so many NLers crying for mods to delete this thread.

Firstly, there are so many threads about denigrating Igbos and yet I do not find any of you there crying about it. In fact, the very same omenka is in them leading the tribalistic charge. Even in this thread sef!

Secondly, the OP clearly stated he is not Igbo, yet you bigots still can't stop carrying our wahala for your head.

Your own medicine is bitter to swallow, abi? Let this thread be a lesson to your foolishness.

In fact, if the mods delete this thread when they don't delete/move others then I would be greatly disappointed.

The man certainly has a Midas touch - having an oil field near your airport will surely increase traffic greatly. If this isn't a strong argument to have the extra proposed runway at Gatwick rather than Heathrow then I don't know what else it will take.

I'm sorry for the back and forth and you may not agree but Lagos PDP has a lot to do with the tribal sentiments. Obanikoro was on radio two Fridays ago talking about the APC not being happy that some non-indegenes won some seats in the house. Talking this and that about non-indegenes and how APC treats them, then we've seen these flyers about the place. It just really sucks that the Oba dragged Ambode into this tribal nonsense
No wahala for the back and forth. I'm confined to bed rest and social mediums are keeping me occupied. Seriously, had it not been for the guy who posted the pics of those fliers just a few messages ago, I would have never known how bad it had been. I had not seen those fliers before then. Even still, who's to say that people swallowed the propaganda?

My gripe is with people forcing this Jimi guy down Igbo people's throats as if he is an undercover Okafor answering Agbaje. And for those who do vote for him, that's their prerogative. Shikena!
PoliticsRe: But Is Jimi Agbaje An Igbo Man? by Bre(op):
mrmetoo1:
Thank you for this but people arrived at this based on conversations and probably based on voting patterns in the presidential elections. Even online when you see a lot of threads saying "Igbos should vote Agbaje" etc.

Now as far as godfatherism, only a naive person will say that won't exist. Jimi got more votes than delegates how did you think that happened without some kind of influence from "above". Do you really think that person did that for free? I honestly think this godfatherism has been blown way out of proportion. Even Obama the leader of the free world has godfathers, they can either be good or bad influence. Without a doubt Tinubu has gained from Lagos but even with that, Fashola's success can't be denied unless we want to be deceitful.
I get your point, at the end of the day, Lagos will prosper and thrive no matter/in spite of who governs it. So is the nature of the beast. Saying Tinubu has gained from Lagos is a massive understatement...

Concerning the presidential vote, again, one cannot deny the support that GEJ received overwhelmingly from SE and SS (myself included). Neither can one discount the same landslide voting attributed to Buhari by his kinsmen in the north. But for a governership of Lagos where any and all tribes are found, they are all voting between two Yoruba candidates. That's the bottom line of the matter. I just do not understand how Nigerians have taken that situation and tribalised it. That is what it all boils down to undecided

Obviously you've not been following what is happening into the Campaign space in Lagos. Check online and see all the endorsements given by us to vote Agbaje in block. Even on nairaland here our people have been shouting same and i wonder!
This is not happening in my sphere of influence. I see it happening on nairaland but I do not count nairaland within my sphere of influence. I actively separate it from my reality outside of this forum, mostly due to self preservation.
PoliticsRe: But Is Jimi Agbaje An Igbo Man? by Bre(op): 12:24pm On Apr 09, 2015
EUROBOMBER:
He is not an Igbo man that is why we don't have to carry his matter on our head like we did for Jonathan who is Ijaw! The fight between Agbaje & Ambode is like that between a husband & wife and when they kiss and settle, they will turn round to accuse you of being the devil trying to destroy their marriage. Ambode & Agbaje will definitely make up after the elections regardless of who wins and guess what? they will turn round to blame the Igbos for trying to cause disaffection in the land name us the 'devil.'
Heavy statement, but we can all see this coming. But this is why I am perplexed as to who is insisting Jimi Agbaje is for Igbos (obviously before the oba Akiolu wahala). I have not come across one Igbo who insisted on inflicting this man as our standard. All I perceive is far, far less care for the governor aspirants than there was for the presidential candidacy.
PoliticsRe: But Is Jimi Agbaje An Igbo Man? by Bre(op): 12:13pm On Apr 09, 2015
mrmetoo1:
No one is saying Igbos shouldn't vote for Jimi, what everyone is just concerned about is the reason for voting him. If you vote the wrong candidate for the wrong reasons, we all get affected, everyone!! This is the reason it's such a big deal.

Then it's kinda odd that a whole tribe is leaning towards one candidate, this almost implies there's an underlying alliance with the candidate or they're just voting solely along party lines which is wrong. If the Igbo vote seems to be spread them it won't be a big deal. It's not like Agbaje it's Igbo that we could say well they're just getting behind their person.

Agbaje to me is not qualified enough, he might be regarded as a smooth talker but some people, some people might like his face but that's not enough to vote someone in to run a state especially a state like Lagos.

When people say he has integrity, I just wonder what they're talking about. This is man that won his party nomination through fraudulent means. 806 delegates and they ended up with 863 votes, impossible mathematics. Now they're using tribal sentiments to gain votes. Like seriously, landlords increasing rent on non-indegenes. Agbaje needs to go back, regain his integrity, shore up his experience and qualifications and come back and try again
Okay, this takes me back to my initial point. When was a cross section of Igbo Lagosians taken to derive that they would all vote for him?

So far as my own personal experience goes, I of all my Igbo friends and family am the only one that felt GEJ should have been re-elected. My mother, who was a young child during the war, even she was very passionately behind Buhari. I am not too passionate about either candidate for Lagos, and as far as my family and Igbo friends in Lagos are concerned, they want to remain with APC. So again, who decided that Agbaje is an Igbo candidate? Who decided that all Igbos will vote for him? It is one man, one vote - no one has a monopoly on an entire group of people.

I do however feel that Lagosians must be wise in voting - the political godfatherism has eaten deep into the system to the detriment of the greater good.

I do agree that no one should vote on tribal sentiments. I am a patriot. No other choice; Nigeria is ours.

Just this morning, 2 non indigenes were saying on tv that his tactics is irritating. They've never been made to feel like non indigenes in Lagos and certainly they don't pay more tax than any of their indigene colleagues .

One even said she got a house under the Lagos state housing scheme whereas the other woman sitting right in the studio which her who is an indigene didn't get because it's a simply case of first come first serve.

The politics Jimi is playing is disgusting
When I saw those pictures you posted, I first thought it was odd for a candidate to single out a demographic to speak to and tried to imagine how that would look in other parts of Nigeria. I still thought it odd.

I spend more time travelling around Nigeria than settled in one place so I cannot say for sure what is happening, but I have not seen any instances of those things with my own eyes. That is why I made no conclusive statements regarding that issue but only asked questions. I assumed that he had been using the issue of "non-indigenes" being deported from Lagos seeing as that was a major bone of contention not too long ago.

If that is really his campaign strategy, divide and conquer, then that is foul.
