1. Back then, assuming someone got a leak ,the only way to disseminate it was via print media. And since abacha for instance could close print media houses with the snap of a finger...plus back then no private radio or underground radio.

2..Internet was available as early as 1996 in Nigeria.. however it was very limited and certainly did not reach the man on the street. Internet cafe was not a thing nationwide until the early 00s, internet fora and blogs for Nigeria came a bit later, and home internet came around 2008.

3. Tech was limited. In 1996, all we had was the phone. Phone lines were limited and x pensive. Now we got phones that are business centers, tv cameras , recorders, processors, etc all in one.


So if I want to leak any presidential chat, I can just take a photo of the speech and send it via an encrypted messanger app like telegram to a journalist who would have it uploaded on his website long before the official release.

Look the governors have tried to a large extent, the reason why insecurity is still largely like this is because of the president...

During Abacha, OBJ and Yaradua even up to GEJ, the governors did not put in up to quarter the effort these present governors have put in to tackle insecurity like setting up Amotekun and so on, because they as presidents did a better job to tackle insecurity.
