Just did two of same size. Total labor and supervision was #500k (excluding materials) I don’t like doing separate charges in labor for one specific job like soak away. I let the contractor deal with all of those (digging,carpenter, iron bender, brick layer and binders).

That means I paid #250k for one, but from what I see, your total labor charges is far more than that.

Seen a couple of quotes here and no one seems to be using 16mm. Why's mine different? And it's so expensive.

I just asked for a standard soakaway to carry sometimes a stationary car and human walkabout.

can we see the dimensions of the soakaway, the width may have been a factor here, it's rare to see 16mm used in soakaway pits.

If you monitor how the NERC keeps increasing electricity tariff rates, and how we now have inverter ACs, inverter fridges, extremely low power lighting lamps that are as low as 5 to 7 watts but still bright, the increasing dependence on inverters and alternative power supply sources, then you will agree with me that energy efficiency is a thing that is being practiced haphazardly here.

If you also monitor how the economy is going down for so many people in Nigeria, then this is one way to make the little money the client has go further.

The issue is that if the building owners and building contractors don't jointly work on this, anything the building owners do afterwards will be afterthoughts and can never go as far as building the house from the ground up with this in mind.

By the way, I took time out to read up the Nigerian BEEC and even posted on it a while ago, there are several useful ideas that every building contractor ought to be familiar with and gradually introduce to their clients.

Maybe the problem is that the recommendations therein are just recommendations and not mandatory.

Overseas, it is not just a direction, it is often times mandatory.

In America, private homes and even commercial facitlites can even be energy star certified.

Truth be told the EPA in America has played an outsized role in making this happen. The Federal Ministry of Housing in Nigeria has done well to set up the BEEC but it should collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Environment to make it a thing.

Yes they should follow it up and ensure that before drawings are approved that it must be included and afterwards implemented. I must add, your comment wow very very enlightening....

If as an Architect (not a draughtsman) with the current global trends, you still create designs that impacts the nature negatively.......

that i ignore it doesn't mean it will affect nature negatively, most times it is done to reduce the energy consumption in the building, but which energy are we even reducing if the energy/power supply in Nigeria is epileptic and already reduced.

I am also watching and I am yet to see any architect or builder on this platform reference the Nigerian BEEC or clearly state that the Nigerian BEEC influenced the design and build

Neither have I seen anyone say this or that was incorporated because of Energy Efficiency considerations

Very rare to see that in Nigeria, these are things very few people take into consideration. And i understand why

he brought something with rusty edges, the burner was just hanging loose and the support gone, i think the color is blue, faded blue as against what was advertised, even if i decided to take it what is the guarantee that it won't be leaking gas when filled,

That suspended light looks industrial. What you expect is fancy ceiling led lights.

Maybe also ceiling speakers and an amplifier somewhere. Also they usually come with 2 monitors not one

Behind camera view, there's a standing Ac, the display unit has an inbuilt speaker, the suspended light may look industrial but is ideal as such is usually employed in conference room settings. And the client choice influenced it.
