As they promised, the ACF/NEF really want to make Nigeria ungovernable for GEJ. Their plans are getting more obvious by the day.
PoliticsRe: PhD, Msc Holders Jostle For Lagos’ N25,000 Jobs Meant For School Leavers by brightedge(m): 2:44pm On Jun 06, 2013
saxywale: I have met a Nigerian PhD holder in chemistry from the university of manchester working at "I'm loving it".
His case would have been different if he was a national of the EU.
Are you kidding me? University of Manchester PhD holder working at McDonalds? I hope you don't mean he's a sales person there. huh huh
PoliticsRe: PhD, Msc Holders Jostle For Lagos’ N25,000 Jobs Meant For School Leavers by brightedge(m): 2:02pm On Jun 06, 2013
I don't think this information is true. How can 85% of the applicants have PhD and/or MSc? Does she mean 85% of the successful applicants? Her statement is as good as saying 85% of Nigerian graduates have Phd/Msc. I would like to believe that there are less PhD/Msc graduates in Nigeria than any other qualification set, therefore I would have expected more BSc/HND/OND/SSCE holders to apply.

Moreover, PhD graduates do not have to stoop so low. There are over 100 public universities in Nigeria to apply to. I don't even know the number of private universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, Secondary Schools, etc in the country. Its more honorable for a PhD holder to apply to an educational establishment (even secondary schools), where they can teach, research, and continue to learn. People do not do PhD out of desperation (ideally). It is usually driven by wanting to learn more, and expand/contribute to knowledge. So it is absolutely bizarre to hear of PhD graduates applying to register people. How could they be idle?
PoliticsRe: Nigerians Protest In London Over Jonathan's Dictatorial Tendencies by brightedge(m): 5:36pm On Jun 05, 2013
These people are dumber than the president they're protesting against. They're clearly jobless, clueless, and faceless. They want British prime minister to do what? Remove GEJ? Don't we have a senate? If you want to protest against the president, the right channel is through the legislators or charge him to court. They don't know that Britain are nursing some beef with them. They've quickly forgotten one Michael Adebolajo that pulled some stunts lately. They have their own problems to solve.

BusinessRe: First Bank To Shut Operations For 5 Days by brightedge(m): 11:15am On Jun 05, 2013
When I read this, I felt that I've heard this news before. Did a quick search and found this:

http://www.technologybanker.com/it-ops/first-bank-of-nigeria-switches-to-finacle-10

Apprently, they switched to Finacle 10 since July last year. Am I missing something here?

Also, why should an upgrade take 5 days? I'm even surprised the operations exectives/CEO/Board approved it. I can't even think of how much the bank would loose if their service was down by 3 hours, now 5 days? What about those people outside the country, travelling, or that depend on daily cash flow for their businesses? There should be a better solution!
BusinessRe: GTBank Named 2013 African Bank Of The Year. by brightedge(m): 9:53pm On May 31, 2013
parki: How did the get this rating? What the measurement performance used for the rating? because they certainly don't deserve it.

GTB is the worst bank in africa. Firstly, GTB has constant network problem. You can hardly use their atms to withdraw cash during the day. Secondly, poor customer service. You walk into the bank, u r met with long queues and when u try to make inquiries, their teller officers are so obnoxious. The most annoying are their services outside nigeria. Have u ever tried using gtb in London? Terrible. They don't even lil things as customer details. They av to ring their nigeria office for customer verification. And we r rating them the best bank in africa. I laff!
Ecobank is still far better. Atleast Ecobank make such their atms work during the day. I would take ecobank over gtb anytime.
Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, gtb's rating as the best bank is political.. Nonsense bank.
Bros, which London you dey? Abi, Ecobank send you? huh huh huh

Nobody is saying their services are perfect. But at least if you want to criticize the bank, you don't have to use ridiculous lies. Maybe you've always had bad luckexperience with GTB, but you must agree that they're among the best in Nigeria. There're very few banks that can boast of robust internet banking and reliable bank cards (master/visa...). I've never used Ecobank so I can't compare their services with GTB, but from my experience with other banks, GTB dey try!
AutosRe: Was Your Red Toyota Avalon Stolen Around 2 Years Ago? by brightedge(m): 5:45pm On May 29, 2013
maninmood: OP:

I can't believe that car as new as it looked could be there for 2 years. My questions: How did you know it has been parked there for 2 years without anyone noticing it? Are you a student? Are you a resident around the vicinity? That car does not look to me a car parked for that long. In the month of October, 2012, you posted a write-up about the fact that you picked a cheque of over half a million naira. Where and how did you see the cheque? Something in my inner mind told me your ways are a bit creepy, dodgy and shady. Perhaps this car was used by a gang of armed robbers which I hope you are not part of this evil syndicate and dropped in that pathway or bush if I am correct; and a member of this gang, hopefully not you, is bothered with a guilty conscience thus coming to Nairaland to notify the owner of the supposedly parked car. If I am wrong, accept my apology otherwise we are watching!
I Share the same sentiments. The picture of the car looks too clean to have been parked there for two years. Was the picture taken 2 years ago or did the op wash the car before snapping? I expected to see dirt/dust around it. Anyway, I want to believe your motives are sincere. If they are, may God continue to bless you. Just be careful as you go about this.

Also for those lamenting about the inefficiencies of our police, I think we're taking it too far. They're not as bad as we portray them. The op said he can't go to the police for personal reasons. If you report to the police, the only inconvenience you would experience is constant questioning about the car and activities around you. Unless you're not ok with this or you have something to hide/protect then it shouldn't be a problem. Before you say I'm in Zimbabwe, I'm typing from Ojota!

NYSCRe: Delta State Fails To Pay Corpers' Allowance. Do They Hate Corpers? by brightedge(m): 6:00pm On May 12, 2013
Is it the same Delta State that just paid May 2013 salaries before the 10th of May? Yeah, right, that wasn't a mistake. DT Civil Servants have already been paid for the month of May. Are corpers not supposed to be paid at the same time other state workers are paid?

Am I missing something here?
TravelRe: US To Tighten Student Visa Rules After Boston Bombing by brightedge(m): 6:12pm On May 04, 2013
I wonder why some of us find this appalling. It is absolutely OK for them to do this. They didn't say they're not going to give student visas anymore. What I understand is that they wont make any assumptions when dealing with students. International students in the US do not go through rigorous scrutiny when they show their student ID cards and it appears to be valid. If an immigrant has a student visa and he's not currently enrolled in a university, then what is he doing in the country? Such idle minds are usually fertile grounds for breeding evil.

Furthermore, why would you condemn a country for trying to protect her citizens? If Nigeria had tightened their borders and immigration rules, then we would have not been infested with the extra Boko Haram sympathizers from Niger, Chad, or even Mali. This is what a progressive country does. When they find a loop hole, they fix it! Since they've realized that its possible for discrepancies between student visas and enrollment status to exist...all they are doing is to make sure it doesn't happen anymore. After all, they have the resources (database records, etc) to do this.

So please stop hating!
AutosRe: SUV Plunges Into River In Bayelsa, 3 Killed (PHOTO) by brightedge(m): 7:12am On May 04, 2013
What is more important? The SUV or the persons dead? Shouldn't the news read "A driver plunges into River in Bayelsa, 3 Killed". The focus seems to be on the SUV instead of the driver and person's dead.

May God comfort the families of the dead.

WebmastersRe: Boy, 14, Launches Social-Networking Website by brightedge(m): 12:55pm On Apr 19, 2013
Well, coming from a 14 year old, I'll say its impressive.

BTW, from a programming perspective, I don't think the website is really innovative (judging from the meaning of the word). Its basically a content management system, see http://grou.ps/home. The CMS is not very popular but it has existed since 2005. I commend his efforts because I've not done much myself. But that does not take away the fact that we have to more creative.
PoliticsC E N T E N A R Y: The Way Nigerians Are, By Lord Lugard by brightedge(op): 11:18am On Feb 11, 2013
Is this how Luggard saw Nigerians, or is this how we really are?

This is an excerpt from the vanguard: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/02/c-e-n-t-e-n-a-r-y-the-way-nigerians-are-by-lugard/

Writing in the book, DUAL MANDATE, on Page 70, some 12years after the amalgamation (1926), Lugard took your grannies, my grannies, to the cleaners. The following is how he described them:

“In character and temperament, the typical African of this race-type is a happy, thriftless, excitable person, lacking in self control, discipline, and foresight. Naturally courageous, and naturally courteous and polite, full of personal vanity, with little sense of veracity, fond of music and loving weapons as an oriental loves jewelry.

His thoughts are concentrated on the events and feelings of the moment, and he suffers little from the apprehension for the future or grief for the past. His mind is far nearer to the animal world than that of the European or Asiatic, and exhibits something of the animals’ placidity and want of desire to rise beyond the state he has reached. Through the ages the African appears to have evolved no organised religious creed, and though some tribes appear to believe in a deity, the religious sense seldom rises above pantheistic animalism and seems more often to take the form of a vague dread of the supernatural. He lacks the power of organisation, and is conspicuously deficient in the management and control alike of men or business. He loves the display of power, but fails to realise its responsibility…. He will work hard with a less incentive than most races. He has the courage of the fighting animal – an instinct rather than a moral virtue…. In brief, the virtues and defects of this race-type are those of attractive children, whose confidence when it is won is given ungrudgingly as to an older and wiser superior and without envy…. Perhaps the two traits which have impressed me as those most characteristic of the African native are his lack of apprehension and his ability to visualize the future”.
This was what Lugard said of your fore-fathers, my fore-fathers.

PoliticsRe: Most Wanted Kidnapper In Delta State Is A PhD Holder — Commissioner Of Police by brightedge(m): 6:26am On Nov 23, 2012
What message is this report trying to convey? The reporter tells us that the kidnapper is a PhD holder and where he is from. He doesn't mention his name. How can the community help with the investigation? Or is this report trying to report the identity of the most wanted kidnapper in the state or mocking PhD holders? For real, I don't understand its purpose.
