Reply from the UK Air Transport Users Council (www.auc.org.uk) RE: Bellview Airlines Ltd Thank you for your email of XX February 2009. I am sorry for the delay in responding to you but we have large backlog here at the AUC and out of fairness to passengers we are dealing with complaints in a strict chronological order. I have had the opportunity to review your complaint. I am sorry to inform you that Regulation EC 261/2004 is not applicable to your flight. The Regulation only applies to passengers departing from an airport located in the European Union or where passengers depart from outside the European Union arriving into the European Union and the carrier is a European Community Carrier. Whilst your flight was flying into London from Lagos, Bellview Airlines Ltd are registered in Nigeria and are therefore not a European Community carrier. If you have incurred costs due to the cancellation of your flight may I suggest you write to the airline with copies of receipts? The airline may reimburse you for any out of pocket expenses you have incurred. Yours sincerely Passengers Stranded As NCAA Grounds Bellview Aircraft By Gboyega Adeoye, Correspondent, Lagos About 300 intending passengers were on Monday, stranded at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, (MMA), Lagos as well as the London Heathrow airport. This was as a result of Bellview airline's inability to airlift them from Lagos to London and return some from London to Lagos. It was gathered that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had grounded the aircraft scheduled for the flight on Sunday for safety reasons. It was however not clear why the airline went ahead to check-in the passengers giving them boarding pass that the flight would depart Lagos for London at 9.15 am. Trouble started when it was time to board the aircraft and passengers were stopped from proceeding into the plane by aviation security personnel. It was at this point that they were informed that the aircraft for the operation was undergoing NCAA's check. Passengers who commented on the matter said the action was deliberate, stressing that the airline was just interested in collecting money without planning to airlift them. They said it was typical of Nigerian airlines to treat passengers shabbily without thinking of the trauma they would pass through when their plans are thwarted. They said as soon as it dawned on some of the airlines' officials that passengers knew the flight might not depart; they disappeared so as not to face their wrath. Akin Omotoye, one of the passengers said; "Many of us have been here as early as 7 am and this is 3.45 pm. We were not told anything as we were checked in to fly at 9.15 am. They later told us that the aircraft has some technical fault. They just kept us here since morning without telling us what will become our fate". Another passenger, Tayo Ogundele said all the airline gave them after waiting for over two hours was a small juice drink and meat pie. "A lot of us are supposed to resume at our offices, now we cannot do that. Those people that are to meet us will be at Heathrow and become apprehensive when we do not see us," he lamented. For Marvis Ihasee, who is to have a connecting flight to Norway, "Passengers should not be treated like this, no one is telling us anything. In fact, this is fraud. I am supposed to have a connecting flight to Norway; I do not know how I will deal with that now." Others were busy asking for the airlines officials with rage, threatening to sue the airline for failure to show concern for their welfare. The regional manager, in charge of the Lagos airport, Edward Olarerin said that the NCAA was meeting with officials of the airline. According to him, in order to ensure that law and order is maintained by the passengers, some aviation security personnel were deployed to the terminal while the station manager of the airline was directed to relocate the passengers to a hotel. "We are on top of the situation, you know this is the busiest airport in Nigeria, we would not want anything disrupt other airlines operations. So everything is under control," Olarerin said. Several calls made to the Corporate Affairs Manager of Bellview Airlines, Habib Mohammed were unanswered, just as the media assistant to the Director General of NCAA, Sam Adurogboye, equally failed to respond to his calls. http://www.independentngonline.com/busi/lead/article02 |
Boosting tourism when the WHOLE state is in total infrastructural decay!!! What sense ?? Biography of Oba Erediauwa: EDSG sets up committee BENIN CITY – A seven-member committee made up of university eggheads has been set up by the State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism to chronicle developments so far recorded during the reign of the Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa. Vincent Akhere said the government of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole decided to sponsor the writing of the Biography of the Benin Monarch because his reign has witnessed peace and progress in the past 30 years. He noted that Oba Erediauwa has also brought unity among Edo people, adding that his achievements as the custodian of African Culture are even acknowledge beyond the continent and therefore deserve to be recorded now for future historians. Commissioner Akhere therefore urged members of the committee to take their assignment seriously as the book will be launched during the 2009 Ugie (Igue Festival). honeric01:Short of words ?? |
honeric01:I can imagine your disappointment in our Comrade Governor. Its not too late for him to hit the reserve gear and restrategise his administrative acumen. |
He want to achieve result without economic incentives to the think tanks. He need some education. I challenged them to identify people who believe in football and Bendel Insurance and not people who want money from me, people who are ready to travel at their own cost and to hold meetings without demanding sitting allowances, and they came out with some names whom I believe that when we inaugurate the committee will make some difference in the management of Bendel Insurancehttp://www.thesourceng.com/IntegrityApril272009.htm |
Dude i came back from Benin city in less 3 weeks ago.Nothing is happening than sending street traders packing. The Hon Governor is now the MC Governor of Nigeria. |
Please send the pix as discussed. Cheers |
honeric01:I appreciate your matured gesture. God Bless |
kosovo:There is no need for insults if you have a counter constructive arguments. Since that is all you can offer,i will rest my case. God bless. |
honeric01:The answer to your question is NO. What is your view on this: brownbonno: honeric01:Julius Berger is only a construction company and not Archaeologists. The problem of Benin is historical and the Binis and the government wants everything to be within Ring Road which is the centre of the Bini heritage(Oba Palace). Take Rome(ROMA) Italy as an example, you will see that they where able to construct Roads,Houses and still keep the physical structures of the Roman history. I wish Oshiomhole well. |

The fight is a fight for self determination.Self determination is part of democracy. The issue of its constitutionality is on a shalow ground because the 1999 Nigeria constitution is an off shut of Military regime. Sharia laws in the Northern Nigeria is part of the self determination and that is the beauty of democracy. |
honeric01:Sending the road side traders packing without a sustainable plans for market store/business district will not stand the test of time. Edo state need a developmental ROAD MAP that will inter marriage and give a clear differences between Economy and infrastructure. You cannot send the poor street traders home without a provision for an alternative source,in their small ways they are part of the economic players of the state.Such an action will create more poverty, crime, education and whole lots of issues. The whole purpose of enhancing the state of our infrastructure will be in shame. Its is clear Oshiomhole is not the rocket scientist to the mirage of problems in Edo state. But he need a practical approach to our issues and not using Lagos as a measure to set a standard for Edo state,Lagos state is the economic hub of Nigeria and he should understand that ECONOMY dictate the way people think in Nigeria. Lets look at a typical scenario:Why is Oshiomhole and his commissioners focusing on RING ROAD when you cannot get there in the first case. Its takes 30min to drive from Akpakpava/Downson junction to get to ring road as a result of traffic jam(the adjourning links roads are bad).Mission Road/Oba market Road is a hell way to ring road.Oregbeni Market traders are sent packing when there is no for provision of market stores.Oshiomhole has a vision but no plans to actualise his vision. I just laugh,he promised employment and wanted the Local Government chairmen to contribute 10mil monthly. How on earth will you expect a PDP controled LG to abandon his plans and give you his share of their Federal allocation!!Six months is gone no employment, ridiculous. Well all hope is not lost,he should through away some of his commissioners/aides and re-energise the team with vision, initiatives and innovative individuals. Dissolve all the Local government executive because they where illegally elected through an illegal electoral commission and let your administration gets to the grass roots. I wish you well. |
Was there during the Easter celebrations.Have good friends there, nice people. |
@bolseas I beg spill the beans, fowl yansh don already open. |
Oh mine home mine home, the cradle of Esan land, the Largest LGA in Esan Land(both in population and land mass),the 7th largest LGA in Edo state, but the poorest in infrastructural development. 4) Esan South East LGA, Ubiaja: Ubiaja, Ewohimhin, Emu, Ohordua, Ẹwatto, Okhuesan, Orowa, Ugboha, Oria, lllushi, Onogholo |
Sam Milla:Rally for what ?Three Nigerians jumped from 9th floor ? Why do they jump from such a high building if their hands are clean ![]() May the soul of the dead rest in Peace. |
sleek_p:Your insinuation is not very correct. All nooks and crannies of Ishan land got a secondary school with at least 6 class room block for a start.Plus College of Education Igueben. Alli is a man of substance? Yes he is as far as the history of Esan land is concerned. Remember VP Aikhomu is from Irrua a border town to Ekpoma and he only bring a specialist Hospital to Irrua which is named after his mother. And use his position to acquire massive rural land to his front business name-Akpene Farm. How do we rate people of substance? You look at their vision(their long term plans) and strategies to actualise those goals.Ability to translate the concept of your vision to reality,Alli was able to fund a free Education at all levels and provided free books to all students even in the midst on the state financial and multi ethnic monkey waters. In the politics of Bendel (Edo/Delta) the only men that worked within the hearts of the people where RT Gen Ogbemudia and Late Prof A.F.Alli every other governors and leaders are all bags of stories. |
Prof Alli is from Ekpoma Prof Osunbor is from Iruekpen Both are from same local government and the towns share a common boundary. |
EDO: Twice unlucky with profs Wednesday, May 13, 2009 The heart beat of the nation, Edo state has been twice unlucky with two distinguished professors. In 1979, Professor Ambrose Folorunsho Alli emerged as the UPN flag bearer and eventually occupied the Dennis Osadebey Avenue Government House in Benin City for four years. Photo:Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section advertisement Those four years still remain memorable to some of us who benefited so much from the Prof. Alli golden years. This writer would not have smelt the four walls of a tertiary institution if not for this Professor of Pathology who gave governance a new face in the old Bendel State.Alli touched lives; his administration distributed the goodies of democracy equitably to all nooks and cranny of the state. Education wore a new look as he established Colleges of Education, Polytechnics and the then Bendel State University now Ambrose Ali University (AAU).The spread of the institutions made people not to raise eyebrows and there was no militancy then. While BENSU was sited in Ekpoma, the College of Education in Abraka was upgraded to a degree awarding institution and two polytechnics were sited at Ogwashi-Ukwu and Ozoro respectively. Also, two Colleges of Education were established in Warri and Agbor. The man did all these despite the fact that the Federal Government did everything to squeeze life out of him politically and financially. The 3% derivation of the state was suspended, his allocations un-usually delayed yet the man forged ahead and performed exceptionally well. Lest I forget, education was free at both primary and secondary schools through his four years in government. Free textbooks were made available in all schools. Bursary was paid to all Bendel State students in Higher Institutions of learning all over the country. In 2007 another Professor of Law, a first class graduate and a gentleman emerged as the flag bearer of the PDP and occupied Dennis Osadebey Avenue for just eighteen months due to the self suffocating antics of the PDP. For eighteen months Senator Oserheimen Osunbor worked round the clock trying to right the wrongs of the 8 years of his predecessor. He met a huge debt profile of well over N20bn and over $104m in hard currency. This did not deter him instead he tackled the state problems headlong. In his first 90 days it was crystal clear to Edo people that there was a government in place. The drainages were disilted particularly in Benin City where they were not cleared for years.Within this period subventions to all tertiary institutions were reviewed upward. Contracts for 27 roads were awarded, salaries of civil servants were reviewed. A year after, the Osunbor administration had touched virtually all segments of the state economy that was begging for attention. The roads were under going rehabilitation, colleges were renovated, hospitals in the three senatorial districts were equipped. The four farm settlements that were abandoned for years were revived and unemployed youths engaged to farm Salaries of civil servants were reviewed twice within this period. Car loans were given to both civil servants and teachers in the state. Pensions and gratuities that were not paid for years were almost cleared within Osunbor’s illustrious eighteen months in Government House. The streets of Benin and environs wore a new look as the monthly environmental exercise was re-introduced by Osunbor. Osunbor guaranteed a loan package for both state owned transport companies Edo Line and Edo City Transport Service (ECTS) which resulted in the purchase of over 60 vehicles for both companies. The moribund Bendel Breweries was resuscitated by the Professor within this period. Elctricity transformers worth over N450m were purchased and installed within eighteen months. The Osunbor months were months filled with actions and transformations that will remain in the memories of Edo people for years. incidentally, both Professor Alli and Professor Osunbor are from the same place. A friend of mine told me how they visited Prof. Alli at UCH where he was admitted after years of incarceration. The Professor of Pathology had no shoes except a pair of sandals. He told them how he buried his head working in Government House and never had time to buy shoes for himself. He showed them the pair of sandals that he wore at all times because he was hungry to put smiles one the faces of his people. The Professor was detained for years because of N900, 000.00 which one of his opponents eventually paid back. He told them how he wept when he visited BENSU and what he saw was opposite of the proto-type university he wanted in Ekpoma because he was busy working in Benin he had no time to go on inspection at the university. Prof. Ali was a man of substance who loved his people and came into governance to put miles on the faces of the people. Today, Edo people are still remembering that gentleman that was once the number one citizen. As for Osunbor, his eighteen months sojourn in Government House cannot be easily forgotten because he wrote his name in gold. Both profers or have left the stage . I have their succers ors will perform better than they did . http://odili.net/news/source/2009/may/13/508.html |
Oshiomhole is an activist(Aluta) and cannot government except with the right people in his EXCO. Money is not the problem of Edo state. Attached is the Federal allocation for Feb/March 2009 -General of the Federation |
JJYOU:Do you know that Oregbeni Market (Ramat Park Area) was destroyed last week without store/land allocation to the affected market women ?What do expect of the affected people? I laugh. |
Dude, people know all what you call shit. Teachers as per today 12/May/2009 have not got their salaries. |
CyberG:He have not got what it takes to perform any action at the moment. |
Outstrip:Have you heard he has been nicknamed-MC GOVERNOR ? Unfortunately,Oshiomhole is only an ACTIVIST and a one way thinker. With all honesty,he is my man,BUT with this pace he can't make second term. -His policies are not forward thinking(he recently back tracked on his fees for new hospitals registration). -Teachers as per today 12/May/2009 have not got their salaries -His team of commissioners (most of them) are empty brains. -Construction of Airport road should not be a priority when other areas of Benin need attention to help decongest the main city(Aduwawa,Agbor road areas) need to attention. -He should always consult/reseach before implementing(Doctor's call Out allowance tax) -His SA/SSA(most of them) are either learners or empty brain/non innovative. -HE NEED TO SACK MOST OF THE COMMISSIONERS AND DISOLVE THE 18 LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL- |
Siena:I am sure you used your British passport and not Nigerian Passport ? |
furiban:I suspect she went on Marriage for visa. Her entire disrespectful actions suggest that. Her best option is to accept the dissolution of the marriage and go back to Nigeria or remain remain an illegal immigrant as soon as initial resident is expired. The parents apologising after returning the dowry is a pure after thought. |
nuzo:That is putting new wine into an old bottle. Remember we have Labour party in Nigeria, how many seats do they have in the national assembly?Majority of Nigerians are workers and belong to Trade unions. But do not vote for the LP. We cannot get the listed social amenities if the ideal of the political class is not defined. |
