An embattled Senator, Mohammed Ndume, who is facing charges for alleged links to the militant group, Boko Haram, contacted the group’s spokesperson 73 times within a month, investigators told a federal court on Wednesday. Mr. Ndume was arrested late 2011 by the State Security Service, SSS, and accused of sponsoring the Islamist sect. Mr. Ndume claims his contact with the group was necessitated by his membership of the Presidential Committee mandated to help restore peace to the troubled North East of the country. Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for series of bombings and gun attacks that have plagued Northern Nigeria resulting in more than a thousand deaths. The SSS said Mr. Ndume, who is from Borno State, the hotbed of the crisis, was constantly in touch with an alleged spokesperson of the group, Mohammed Konduga. Mr. Konduga was convicted and is currently serving a three-year jail term. Mr. Ndume’s phone call history is central to establishing his relationship with the sect; and on Tuesday, a Federal High Court in Abuja brushed aside the senator’s objection to admit the phone call logs as key evidence in the case. http://saharareporters.com/news-page/senator-ndume-contacted-boko-haram-leader-73-times-one-month-says-sss-premium-times The SSS told the court that the senator’s call log showed that he spoke with Mr. Konduga 73 times in October 2011. At the resumed hearing of the case, Aliyu Usman, a forensic expert with the SSS, while giving evidence said the history of the communication contacts was contained in the two mobile telephones obtained from Mr. Ndume and Mr. Mr. Usman said the communication between the two persons took place between October 3, 2011 and November 3, 2011, adding that they were in the form of text messages and voice calls. The telephone lines used were those of MTN mobile network, and the details of the communication were obtained from the network, he added. Mr. Usman said adequate forensic analyses were carried out on the data extracted from the two phones before storing them on three DVDs. Mr. Ndume’s lawyer, Rickey Tarfa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, again objected to the tendering of the DVDs as evidence on Wednesday arguing that they were secondary evidence and should have been accompanied by a statement. He argued that the items were in violation of the Evidence Act. “The essence of Section 102 of the Evidence Act is to guide against the tendering of fake computer generated materials,” he said. But the prosecution lawyer, Thompson Olatigbe, said the items had already been admitted by the court and as such they became primary evidences. On the absence of certification, Mr. Olatigbe argued that the witness merely transmitted the contents of the two phones into DVDs and produced hard copies, as according to him, the elements would be subjected to further tests by the court. |
We don't need a prophet or soothsayer to tell us that the likes of Dino Melaye are using anti corruption as a mechadise to enrich themselves and gain cheap popularity, only those who are vulnerable will believe their tales of lies and ficticious stories,my problem is that they disturbing and making feel as we don't have the mind of our own,but Nigerians are wiser now they know the gimmicks of these people shame and disgrace will be their end... |
Lie lie lie, tell that to the marines...we are not in Kindergarten.. |
This is goodnews..at least alot of people will have cause to smile we musr learn to appreaciate the govt when thy are doing well....front page pls moderator... |
Stallion77: it amazes me why the NBA is directing that terrorists should be handed to the police... where have they been when terrorist were released by police in the name of ''escaped''? something fishy seem to be going on somewhere.Maybe the NBA is living in the past, how many of these suspects have escaped from police custody,is it Kabirusokoto or Abu Mohammed?it clearly shows that something is wrong with our police force,is either they collaborate with the criminals or ccareless abt their duties,if not for other security agencies, the police would have disgraces us.The judiciary is also contributing to prolong detentions, they delay cases and allow suspects to stay for long, the NBA should query the judiciary for delaying cases rather than looking fit loopholes. |
My joy is that it at least something is been done to demonstrate the fight against corruption, this is a fight for all and sundry those who are outside the govt should also fight corruption cos that that is where corruption is having a field day,to be fair to this administration i think their gesture on the monster called corruption is commendable... |
Turbocharged: The letter in question was addressed to Cardinal Okojie, and Pope Benedict was copied. My question then is how did it get to El-rufai?that is to tell u how fake this letter is,I don't trust one word, this is giving a dog a bad name in order to hang it. |
My problem with Nigerians is that we are too emotional whenever something like this comes up without even knowing the facts we will making comments,I don't think this letter is even genuine by mentioning the likes of el rufai inside I sense something fishy,as far as I am concern Okah is a criminal, pls let us attach sentiments to our reasoning. |
Op u need serious Therapy...i pity you a great deal cos you are loosing touch with reality... |
hmmmmmmmmm,this is a dangerous University... ![]() |
Religious organizations must stay off politics and avoid making comments that will overheat the polity, let Nigeria's interest come first before any religious interest.. |
Our hands are crossed and we still hopeful that one day things will get better...Nigeria is for all us. |
Top brass in the military have reacted to the Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI) telling them to steer clear of the military and not inject religious rivalry into its affairs. It would be recalled that only two days ago, JNI had complained about the removal of the two generals in charge at the Command and Staff College, Jaji, who were redeployed after the suicide bombings within the military institue which killed several persons. The JNI in a statement had said: “The fact that the two officers who were swiftly removed were Muslims, and were replaced by two officers who are non-Muslims makes any discerning observer to be suspicious of the motives behind the whole exercise. “It is our sincere concern to which we make bold to state that any attempt at politicising the issue of security in Nigeria will not only worsen our security situation but will also continue to polarise the military family and the entire security system along religious and ethnic divides, something that would not augur well for the future of our dear nation. But a military top brass who spoke on the issue responded to JNI thus “Are these people also aware that both former officers were Muslims as well. While they were in charge nobody saw them as Muslims but excellent officers who merited their postings and positions. Meanwhile, their redeployment followed strict military tradition and has in no way diminished their status as they are being redeployed in other areas. Why all these reactions? Is this the first time senior officers are redeployed? This kind of attitude and reaction is setting up a dangerous precedence and bringing religious sentiments into military affairs." Continuing, the source who spoke to Thisday newspapers said “It does not matter who he appoints or where he is from, military is military and must be seen so and not putting pressure on the President based on ethnic or regional considerations. This should not be like the case of the so called Banana Republics, where military loyalties are to their regions creating many rebels within the military,”Nigeria has often sacrificed merit and professionalism on the altar of religion in promotions in the public service a state of affairs that has brought Nigeria's civil service and other institutions to a state of low morale and encouraged corruption. http://www.naijapundit.com/news/dont-t-bring-religious-rivalry-into-the-military-nigerian-soldiers-warn-jni |
Nigeria is not as bad as we think.... |
I think the drafters of the 1999 constitution looking at the diversity of the nations in a country, deemed it fit to enshrine the federal character for everyone to have a sense of belonging in the country, but in the long run because of how sentimental and bias we have become mediocrity has crept in to be the norm,it's so sad SLS is not far from the truth....but the fact still remains that everyone must be carried along for us to remain as a country. |
Frank-C:that's a very pertinent question, most we dwell so much on the federal govt forgetting completely that we have state governors who are holding sway without been question..Na wah for Naija oh.. |
karl max: They read the news but too ashamed to comment.if the headline had read NIGERIA ANTICORRUPTION INDEX reduce. The witches would be all over the thread .now that all their fallacy about this government being the most corrupt and not doing enough about corruption has been disproved by TI.come 2015 they would abandon nairaland the way they're avoiding this thread then the Good work of this government would be seen by nigerians and the international community. My brother our orientation is faulty in this country,i wonder why people like bad news instead of goodnews, at least the efforts of this administration in fighting corruption is paying off we must commend them on this but we need to see more corrupt people prosecuted. |
Haba Nairalanders... for how long are we going to be thinking like this?most times we see our security agencies like magicians completely forgetting that they are human beings like us,i have never seen or hear anywhere in the world any security agency would not want to be applauded for maintaining law and order,as much as we are skeptical our security agencies,we must praise and encourage them when they are doing well,we must all rise up and fight crime head long in whatever form and we must know that they cannot do it alone.some bad politicians are just sowing seeds of discords are we busy criticizing those who are protecting us.May God help us all. |
Awesome |
At least the hammer has hit someone's head,we are hoping that more reports will be implemented to rid bad eggs in government. |
