BusinessRe: Naira Depreciates To N355/$ by Built2last:
Saudi Arabia is facing exactly what Nigeria is facing but they took a different approach to solving their illiquidity problem.

The king of Saudi handed over the economic matters of the kingdom to his brother which has the expertise in that regard. (I hope PMB will learn that.)

His brother consistuted an economic team which in turn recommended that experts be brought in from Canada to supervise the economy in this trying time. they will do this in consulting capacity. Our president and his team of junketeers will not ask the Saudi team how they are weathering the storm. I am not one of those fooled that he has gone to pray for Nigeria to be good. Thats a dumb thing to sell. Nigerias problem is not from heaven. we refused to save when we ought to, we refused to diversify when we needed to . so how exactly is it God that is doing us.

The Saudis have a team of 9 experts who operate on the model of "PERFORM OR GO" these experts meet on weekly basis with ministers and heads of various ministries. woe be tied you if you dont show up in that meeting with tangible progress report. once the team recommends you should go, the king fires without recourse to you. every one is on top of their game to perform.

since our president appointed ministers, i can only remember 7 who appears to be on the media. I dont even know most of them talk more of performance.

Why did Saudi go to Canada to get experts. Canada was the only advanced nation in the world that during the 2007/8 credit crunch stood the heat and was never affected.

nations like Germany, U.K and U.S could not understand the magic Canada did. but the man behind the magic was Mark Carny, the then governor of the bank of Canada. In 2013, England broke their own law to hire this same man who managed Canadian economy in trying time to run their national bank and made him chairman of monetary policy

Saudi has learned and gone for other retired team members of Mark Carny.

Our president must go to any mile possible to have working brains on monetary and fiscal policy.

If we dont get it right and define our path in the next four to five months, this nation is headed for a cesspit.

Prof Wole Soyinka , Funsho Philips and other observers including myself are calling on mr president to assemble his economic team before its too late. the honey moon is over. we wasted time in appointing ministers and that is why the embarrasment of the budget. permanent secretaries and directors prepared a budget of yam in the absence of ministers. the lazy ministers came and never read it. here we are.

enough of the junketing, there is work to be done. The energy exacted on begging nations to help us will do better if we channel it to work.

Lalastilala, have you heard this story that happened yesterday.

my question is if she took ill mid air, why did they not call for emergency and land in Benin, Warri, Asaba, Enugu or even Ilorin en-route Lagos.

could they have saved the life of that woman and child if they cared. or the typical Nigerian spirit of lets manage.

they must have calculated the fee of paying for landing in any of those airpots and continued till that woman and child died.

can you stand as a man watching your wife and baby die? pathetic.

Seun what should we do about Nigerian air line and carelessness.

on this very matter i have to agree with this guy. I am most offended that there is a finance minister and the ministry that handles budget did not do any review of this budget before it was presented by PMB. This is very embarrassing and in my opinion, the Minister of Finance and every other persons that are supposed to monitor and review the budget be fired with immediate effect.

So much to be said bro...It is very embarrassing. A budget clearly shows the plan and vision of a given government. This is already looking bleak by the budget drama. From missing to padding and PMB is quiet. Naaaa. He should have been assertive and proof the incompetence of those who prepared it by firing Finance, Budget and National Planning and adviser on NASS. His silence is deafening and embarrassing but more worrisome are the mo.rons who are clueless about budgeting and accuse everyone questionin it a wailer.

I have a feeling Boko Haram will not die completely, until the Core North fully embrace modern education, and ban completely kids of school age roaming around the street , with a commission established to strictly enforce it.
There is every problem for a man like Tambuwal to have 100 kids. If he can comfortably cater for them, then he is a thief. Even as a governor, how much is his salary...If not for stolen money.

“All Ministers And Public Officials Must Use PROBOX, VITZ And Other Cheaper Vehicles – Orders President Magufuli

Dar-es-salaam TANZANIA. President Magufuli has banned all senior public officials from using fuel guzzling 4 x 4 cars and other luxury cars, ordering that all those cars in be seized and sold in a public auction and the money used to provide public goods & services. The president further ordered that all ministers, chief justices, ambassadors and senior state officials must be supplied with a choice of Probox, Passo, Platz, Vitz , duet or any car that is less than 1400CC. This move is likely to cause a lot of public anxiety in a country where Magufuli has become a national ‘sweetheart’ for his austerity measures and revolutionary ideas that seems to have eclipsed even opposition.

“This is a public service not a gravy train. Anybody who came here to make riches should quit and join the private sector. All ministers and senior statehouse officials are here to work not to seek obscene opulence. I don’t want to see them drive those big cars (4X4 guzzlers), if anyone insist please let them go buy their own cars, we (the government) shall fuel for them. To build this country like I promised during campaigns, we must make sacrifices and that includes sacrificing those unnecessary comforts for the small cars. I have ordered the police to impound any such big cars rode by state officials on the road & those officials be prosecuted. We are not here to rob the average Tanzanian but to make his life better. This is the reason I skipped the AU heads of state meeting in Addis and sent Mama Suluhu ( Dep President)” noted Magufuli shortly in down town Dar-Es-Salaam on a working trip.

A spot check by spectator news desk reveals that whereas other presidents traveled to the AU summit, Tanzania was represented by its deputy president Ms Suluhu Hassan. It will be remembered that Magufuli has also banned use of presidential red carpets. However this latest move is likely to ignite a hubbub in neighboring Kenya where even governors huge convoys and other senior state officials use huge fuel guzzling convoys.

Have you read the budget? All teaching hospitals in Nigeria combined has less budget than one clinic in Aso Rock Villa. And they will never use the hospital ooo. ...just so you know why waiters are increasing
PoliticsBudget:presidency 2 Spend Mor On State House Clinic Than All Teaching Hospitals by Built2last(op): 7:12pm On Feb 02, 2016
The Nigerian government is proposing to spend more on capital projects at the State House Medical Centre this year than it would provide for the 16 teaching hospitals belonging to it.
If the proposed budget is approved as presented to federal lawmakers, the State House Clinic will get N787million more in capital allocation than all the 16 teaching hospitals combined.
The State House Medical Centre is a facility that provides healthcare for President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, their families and other employees of the Presidency, all possibly less than a thousand.
Federal teaching hospitals cater for the heath needs of millions of Nigerians, train medical doctors and other health professionals for the nation while also serving as top medical research centres.
A breakdown of the 2016 Appropriation Bill shows that a total of N3.87billion has been allocated for capital projects at the State House Clinic.
In contrast, the country’s 16 federal government-owned teaching hospitals individually only got a fraction of the allocation made for the presidential clinic.
According to the proposed budget, N212,539,245 has been allocated for capital projects at the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital in Lagos, one of the country’s most populous states, while the capital allocation for the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Kaduna, is N230,904,795.

Similarly, the capital allocation for the University College Hospital, Ibadan, is N230,904,795; University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu (N218,335,908); University of Benin Teaching Hospital (N212,886,502); Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital, Ile Ife (N162,622,221); University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (N166,802,164); University of Jos Teaching Hospital (N228,717,880); and University of Port Harcourt (N169,498,392).
The capital allocation for other hospitals are: University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (N201,082,446); University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (N215,151,873); Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching hospital, Sokoto (N279,000,000); Aminu Kano University Teaching Hospital (N210,380,376); Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi (N166,188,931); University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (N198,715,702); and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (N229,005,992).
Health industry experts consider the annual huge capital allocation to the State House Medical Centre as “outrageous and baffling”.
“It is unbelievable to see that Buhari is continuing in the tradition of pampering the State House Clinic every year with outrageous capital allocations while teaching hospitals that cater for several millions of people are allowed to rot,” an official at the National Hospital, Abuja, told PREMIUM TIMES. He requested not to be named for fear he might be victimised by the administration.
In the 2015 budget, which gave N150million capital vote to the hospital, the equipment to be procured and the projects for execution were clearly spelt out. So also were the amounts to be spent on each equipment and project.
But this year, the presidency failed to indicate how it plans to spend the about N4billion it proposes to spend on capital projects at the hospital. It is a one-line item in the budget, and there is no breakdown of what equipment would be procured and what project would be executed.
By virtue of the huge allocation to the State House Medical Centre President Buhari, Vice President Osinbajo, their families and their staff at Aso Rock are assured of state-of-the-art medical care.
However, millions of Nigerians, many of them poor voters, who bought into the president’s message of change, are to continue to make do with decrepit facilities in under-funded teaching hospitals and other government-owned health facilities across the country.
Checks by PREMIUM TIMES indicates that this year’s huge budgetary allocation for the State House Medical Centre is a continuation of what appears a tradition of over-equipping the clinic at the detriment of other health facilities in the country.
A 2009 report by the rested NEXT newspaper revealed that the State House clinic had 17 ambulances, the highest by any hospital in the country at the time.
According to the report, in 2008, 10 new state-of-the-art ambulances were brought from North Carolina in the United States, parked inside the presidential villa and left unused.
At the time the ambulances were left to rot away in Aso Rock, the National Hospital, Abuja, believed to be one of the topmost hospitals in the country, had only nine ambulances while the General Hospital in Nyanya, a decaying facility on the outskirts of Abuja, that served more than 300,000 people, had just a jalopy 504 Station Wagon (CT 89-A10) as its only ambulance.
Last November, a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) revealed that there were only two functional radiotherapy machines, an essential equipment for the treatment of cancer, in the country, one of which belonged to a private hospital.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), over 100,000 Nigerians are diagnosed with cancer annually, and about 80,000 die from the disease yearly.

The decrepit state of health facilities in the country, apart from the consequent losses of lives, has also caused huge economic loss to the country. Nigerians who can afford it spend billions of naira annually in the United States, Europe, India and other places in search of better healthcare.
Adewunmi Alayaki, Secretary General of the Nigerian Medical Association, said government should consider redistributing the allocation so that health facilities used by ordinary Nigerians can get better financial allocation.
“The lopsidedness in the distribution of allocations is keyed towards the State House health needs and the rest of the country are now sharing less funds than what is allocated to one health facility,” Mr. Alayaki told PREMIUM TIMES via telephone.
“I think government should look into that and correct it. Ordinary Nigerians do not have access to that facility (State House Medical Centre) so they should redistribute and invest more in areas where ordinary Nigerians have access to.”
The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma, could not be reached to comment for this story. He is said to be on his way to France with President Buhari.
The Minister of State in the ministry, Zainab Ahmed, could also not be reached. Multiple calls to her telephone failed to connect.
