PoliticsDeath Toll In Zulum’s Convoy Attack By Bokoharam Rises To 30 by Built2last(op): 6:23pm On Sep 26, 2020
The death toll from Boko Haram attack on the convoy of Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has risen to 30, security sources said Saturday.

Two sources told AFP the number of fatalities from the attack Friday had doubled as more bodies were found and now included 12 policemen, five soldiers, four members of a government-backed militia, and nine civilians.

“The tally has increased to 30 as many bodies were picked in the surrounding areas after the attack,” one of the sources said, adding that “many people were injured”.

The PUNCH had reported that an ambush on the convoy of the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, on Friday left about 15 persons dead.

The governor’s convoy was said to have been attacked between Monguno and Baga areas of the state.

A security source said the attack left mainly security personnel comprising eight policemen, three soldiers and four Civilian Joint Task Force operatives dead.

A source at the Borno State Government House in Maiduguri also told our correspondent that the governor had left Maiduguri for Baga to prepare for the planned return of internally displaced persons from Maiduguri to the camps in Baga.

The governor was said to have left Maiduguri with a retinue of armed soldiers, police officers and Civilian-JTF personnel.

A senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated that he was told eight persons were killed, including security personnel and civilians.

Friday’s incident is the second attack on the governor’s convoy in recent times around Baga.

Congratulations

More than half of the politicians in this country, including the President, CANNOT survive without periodic travels to the UK, USA and other European countries either for medical issues, their children schools or other matters not unconnected with their spouses, businesses or holidays.

Periodic visits to the US, UK and other European countries are as indispensable to them as water is to the fish.

If the EU and UK were to go the route of the US in not just threatening but actually slamming Visa Ban and asset seizure on election riggers here both in INEC, the security agencies (the two most notorious electoral bandits in Nigeria) and amongst the politicians and the judiciary headed by the aeroplane-driving Chief Justice of Nigeria and the election petition tribunal judges, all of whom constitute the biggest electoral headache ailing this country, trust me, we will witness significant changes in our polity. These sanctions should also be extended to their families.

There can be no true democracy without a credible electoral process where the people are allowed to chose their leaders.

Repeatedly, Africans, not just Nigerians, have proven that indeed, we are incapable of running our affairs without outside help.

A shame, isn't it?

The Victory Of Obaseki Couldn't Have Been Possible Without This Man. Do You Agree?

THIS IS MY HERO IN EDO STATE ELECTION

In anything you do in life, look for loyal men. When you are drowning they will stretch to save you. When the storms starts, they will cover you. When they are made offers to betray, their conscience wont allow them.

This man in the picture is Obaseki's deputy. Comrade Philip Shaibu. Before Ize Iyamu was approached to decamp from PDP to APC to run the APC ticket. The offer was first made to Shaibu. He would have been the man challenging Obaseki today if he accepted Oshiomole's offer. Shaibu said I cannot betray my boss Obaseki.

He said him and Oshiomole have suffered oppression in their struggle for democracy and he wont dish out oppression to another man. He remained with Obaseki despite the pressure. Few weeks ago. The press man interviewing him asked him. What if you lose the election? He said he will rather lose honourably than betray his boss. He said he wont support the oppression of Obaseki.

This comrade is a force in Edo State politics. Oshiomole fears him in rural politics. He was instrumental to Oshiomole all through his campaigns and tenure. He has stayed with Obaseki and refused decamping. He was silent all through the heat of this election working dangerously underground. Their efforts were cemented with U.S and UK visa ban which weakened the planned usual federal might Oshiomole was banking on.

Comrade Shuaibu represents the man I will like to be to any politician I chose to support. Loyal men are rare. If you find one like Shaibu, hold him dearly. Well done to Shaibu. Congratulations to him and Obaseki.

Those who are mocking ex Lagos Governor - Akinwunmi Ambode - on the basis of the Edo election are missing the point.

First, the Edo governorship election was more of a plebiscite on Adams Oshiomole than a contest between the PDP governor Godwin Obaseki and the APC Pastor Ize Iyanmu. So in essence, this isn't Obaseki defeating Iyanmu. This is Edo people retiring the former APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole for his overbearing god father status. In fact, there is a sense in which it can be argued that the APC candidate could have won more votes if not for the liability that Adams brought to his campaign. When you add that ill-adviced video by Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT), you would understand that the duo of Oshiomole and the Lagos BAT brought nothing but 'minus' to the APC candidate. That video of a man who foisted a semi-literate 16th century-brained coup plotter on a 21st century 'nation' only to turn around to address himself as "the leader of all democrats" rankled so many people and helped cement the resolve of Edo people against the APC.

So in a nutshell, what Edo people have shown is that no force, no matter how powerful can undermine the resolve of a determined people.

Lagos State under Ambode was an entirely different case because for one, it's always difficult, if not impossible, to rescue slaves who see their chains as some beautiful bracelet. The Lagos electorates, with the exception of a few, are quite in love with one man determining their fate. Or so it would seem. So there was very little an Ambode could have done without the people. Not with Tinubu's strong hold on all the party structure in the state, Asorock support as well as a well oiled non-state actor such as the Lagos State Road Transport Union ever ready to act as his stand-by instrument of violence each time the need arises. Or why do you think the road transport union in Lagos is treated as the 4th arm of govt? Who do you think flew the union leader MC Oluomo abroad for treatment after he was wounded in a pre-election clash in the run-up to the 2019 poll?

To uproot Tinubu from Lagos will require a combination of factors including federal might. This might just happen in 2023 if the signs are anything to go by.

But for now, Edo is indeed not Lagos. Just as Lagos is certainly not Edo.

Do you know why Harvard is globally regarded as a top school.

They didn't get there by chewing gworo.

The only profession i have regards for in Nigeria are medical doctors.

our engineers have not manufactured a bicycle. Our biochemists were hiding from covid 19 wearing face mask like you and i while there counter parts in the world are looking for vaccine

Lecturers in Nigeria can use one lecture note for 15 years. They go online copy foreign journals bind it and sell to students.....Many professors in Nigeria are half baked. copy and paste professors. Only few can stand in global stage. They will memorise these notes and come to class dictating notes and feeling like super heroes.
