PoliticsReturnee Nigerians To Pay For Quarantine by Bullet01(op): 8:10am On May 15, 2020
Stranded Nigerians that are returning home will henceforth offset their two-week quarantine bill on arrival, according to the revised guidelines.

Hitherto, the returnees were only required to pay for their flight while the government took care of their two weeks stay in isolation.

Returnees from United Arab Emirates (UAE), the United States and the United Kingdom who are currently kept in Lagos and Abuja hotels are being taken care of by the government. The new guidelines stopped that.

The new guidelines have been sent to Embassies and High Commissions which have communicated them to Nigerians wishing to return home.

The government said it imposed the fees “due to measures that are beyond the control of COVID-19 local organizing team.”

There were indications last night that the government could no longer afford the cost of taking care for two weeks, of the estimated 4,000 Nigerians who have indicated interest to return.

Nigerians returning from Thailand, Turkey and the State of Kuwait, it was learnt had recovered the information.

A 14th May, letter by the Embassy of Nigeria in Bangkok, Thailand, which was signed by the Head of Chancery, Nicholas P. Uhomoibhi, said each returnee is expected to pay N297,600 for quarantine and feeding in Nigeria.

The letter said: “I am directed to bring to your attention due to measures that are beyond the control of COVID-19 local organizing team in Nigeria, all evacuees going to Nigeria henceforth are to now pay for their quarantine, isolation, accommodation centre or hotels before departure and arrival in Nigeria

“In this regard, all prospective evacuees are to note the negotiated rate below: Accommodation (N15,000 x16 days=N240,000) and Feeding (N3,600 x16 days=N57,600). Total: N297,600 at N18,600 x16 days”

Kindly be informed that these rates were negotiated in Nigeria and that the Embassy has been instructed not to airlift any evacuee who fails to pay the above fee.”

A similar letter sent to all Nigerians in the State of Kuwait by the Embassy of Nigeria on May 13, 2020, said the evacuees will pay N297,600 for their quarantine in Nigeria apart from the air fares.

The letter, titled “Re: Request for evacuation of Nigerian nationals in the wake of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.” said in part: “Further to our notice of 5th April 2020 on the above mentioned subject matter, the Embassy wishes to inform that all intending evacuees are to pay for their quarantine/isolation/accommodation/centre/hotels before departure and arrival in Nigeria.

“The negotiated rate is as follows: Accommodation-N240,000 (N15,000 x16 days); Feeding-N57,6009( N3,600 x 16 days). Total- N297,600 (N18,600 x16 days).

“All evacuees are to pay the aforementioned amount for their quarantine/isolation/centre/hotels directly to the airline along with their tickets. Evacuees have option to pay in dollars or its equivalent in Naira.

“It is important to note that evacuees that do not pay for their quarantine/isolation/accommodation/ centre/ hotels will not be allowed to board the flight.”

For Turkey, the Embassy in Ankara informed them with a May 13 memo to pay N297,600.

Some of the stranded Nigerians have been protesting the fees.

One of them said: “As seen on Embassy of Nigeria in Turkey, how would a stranded person be able to afford this.

“I really don’t know the kind of sense that has possessed those in charge.

“Why not make use of a cheaper hotel or give options so that those who can’t afford this rate can go for a cheaper rate.”

Another said: “This has really shown the high level of irresponsibility and how unmerciful that decided on those figures can be can be… Rubbish decision.”

PoliticsBREAKING: Judge Who Annulled June 12 Poll Dies by Bullet01(op): 10:20pm On May 07, 2020
The Judge who annulled the June 12, 1993 presidential election, presumed to be the freest and fairest in the nation’s history, Dahiru Saleh, is dead.

According to Cable.Ng, he was buried in Azare, his hometown, in Bauchi on Thursday evening.

Until his death, he held the title of “Mutawallen” of Katagum emirate in Bauchi.

He was the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.

Chief MKO Abiola, who was recognised as an elected President posthumously by President Muhammadu Buhari, of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was leading Bashir Tofa, his National Republican Convention rival, by margin wide before Saleh ruled to cancel the final announcement.

What followed was months of protests, which forced Military President Ibrahim Babangida, to finally “step aside”.

Abiola was later incarcerated and died in detention on July 7, 1998.

Details shortly…

HealthGhana Records 1,032 COVID-19 Cases — 10 Days After Lifting Lockdown by Bullet01(op): 7:23am On May 01, 2020
Ghana has recorded more than 1,000 additional cases of COVID-19 since the country lifted its lockdown.

Last week, Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo lifted a three-week lockdown on the basis of “improved coronavirus testing”.

The Ghanaian president had said non-essential businesses in Accra and Kumasi could reopen but under guidelines of social distancing.

He said Ghanaians should make use of face masks in public places.

“In view of our ability to undertake aggressive contact of infected persons, the enhancement of our capacity to test, the expansion in the numbers of our treatment and isolation centres, our better understanding of the dynamism of the virus, the ramping up our domestic capacity to produce our own personal protective equipment, sanitisers and medicines, the modest successes chalked at containing the spread of the virus in Accra and Kumasi, and the severe impact of the poor and vulnerable, I have taken the decision to lift the three-week-old restriction on movements in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area and Kasoa, and the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area and the contiguous districts, with effect from 1am on Monday, 20th April,” he had said.

As of April 19 when the lockdown was lifted, the country had recorded 1,042 cases, and 99 recoveries.

However, figures from the Ghana’s ministry of health on Thursday showed that the country currently has 2,074 confirmed cases of COVID-19, out of which 212 recoveries and 17 deaths have been recorded.

This implies an increase of 1,032 cases since the lockdown was lifted.

Ghana is the first country in the West African region to lift the restriction on movement.

Similarly, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari had announced the partial reopening of the country’s economy after five weeks of lockdown.

A nationwide curfew is expected to commence on May 4, while a ban on school activities and religious gatherings will remain.

jamesxay:
Hello everyone, I'm in a sort of huge mess right now. I met this girl years ago and I asked her out for a serious relationship after noticing I liked her, things were ok (mind you no sex) until I moved to Katsina for a handwork training, work was too much, food was little and communication between me and her was poor. I felt broke and useless to her and decided to call it quits just to ease her of the many bills I could not afford. She was kind, understanding and an angel but I knew I had to because I felt she deserved more, then slowly I just did not feel the deep love there anymore but I still really cared.

Now na where the wahala start be this, after I called her on phone and told her everything and why, she agreed. But then she started calling, texting and it became an obsession, I felt her pain and she would try her best to just get me to text her goodnight. I tried to stop communication to ease but it seems she breakup made her worse. Her family members were beginning to call me and I was lost at some point. I returned to Adamawa to get a better Job after perfecting my handwork and since then she calls and cries for me to see her. I go to visit her (still no sex) but no matter how I try I cant find or create that love anymore. She now cries and texts me always that no one loves her and I am scared she might hurt herself because she Is very emotional, I have handled her with care but the case gets worse everyday, I dont know what to do anymore. I want to move on with my life and make sure she's fine and moved on too.
I will advice you tomorrow. Na from my dream I de type this.

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, has urged Nigerian authorities not to allow Abubakar Shekau, leader of the Boko Haram sect, to surrender.

Fani-Kayode said Shekau should be killed instead of allowing him to surrender.

I am not interested in Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau's surrender. I am interested in them sending him to his maker & bringing his head to us on a plate. He deserves no less. You do not take blood-sucking & flesh-eating demons prisoner: you bind them & send them to hell.
