samtol4: I think early February this year Universities VCs compiled list of students with pending application and forwarded it to H.Affairs. Try contacting your school I know they did yeah, but will they act on it and do follow up? Don’t just depend on this alone. Persistent calling & email to SA High Commission will do it. You can send close to 10 emails at day. It will show how urgently you need this visa, same with calls too. |

chemenger: How long does SA study visa renewal takes?
"I am in the middle of my PhD study and submitted my visa renewal application since January 2023 back here in Abuja. I would have applied in SA but had to leave because my passport was expiring and my school also advised to come and apply in Nigeria to avoid been declared undesirable. My application status has always remains the same "the application was received and under processing at SA High commission"
Is this normal or does anyone know how long this takes, I'm running out of patience here because I have an ongoing LAB work to complete back in SA"
Any thoughts or opinions are would be helpful, please help my friend and thank you all. Trust me, there are some study applicant that submitted since September and have not received. Some submitted in January and received in February. We don’t know how the adjudicate or process. It’s a bit confusing. But I think you should constantly. When I mean constantly I mean every 3 hours everyday you mail the SA High Commission till you get a feedback, because that’s the only hope and you continue to call them. |

Rachyekong: Good evening house. I filed application for a year Study visa last year July and got response as at February but my Visa was refused.
My uncle was my sponsor and I submitted his bank statement and notarized document to proof of relationship.
Right now, I want to re apply but I want to change my sponsor.
Please, will the embassy consider the fact that, I am using a new sponsor account details? Well, so far it’s not appeal. It doesn’t matter! It’s a fresh application so it can be allowed just make sure there is sufficient Amount of funds in the sponsor account. What document did you submit for proof of relationship? |

My Advice to anyone trying to apply for a sticker visa especially long term visas is not to apply till after 6-8 months, reschedule your plan. If you can wait for 6-8 months please you can tender it. just saying so you won’t feel frustrated when it doesn’t come out. Right now there are lot and loads of applications in their office- September, October, November 2022 applications are still there o, not to talk of January February & March and they don’t have enough staffs to adjudicate, sometimes the ones there they don’t even cross check well, they will just rush and they do mistake and refuse based on their own human error (this just happened not so long) or they will print a visa with errors and you’d start looking for ways to return it back to them and that’s another 6 months before it gets back to you corrected |

DrOA: Are you in UKZN? Do your findings very well, no university is free in SA for a foreigner. If you get funding, it's another thing. But for you to say, SA universities are free to foreign students, I don't agree. I have been to all the provinces and all the universities in SA. I know what I am saying. If there is anyone who will evidently tell me any SA university is free, let him/her convince me with proofs. I come in peace! In UKZN some Masters and PhD programmes have fee remission, meaning you don’t have to pay for tuition. That I know for sure especially if you’re doing a research based master degree, you get it for just one year, and if you don’t finish by 1 year, you are responsible for the second year. Then some universities too give funding, they will pay for you. Not like it’s free do you get? So just make sure you ask questions like which universities gives funding or scholarships not which universities are free, do you get. Supervisor too can pay for your tuition from the grants they were awarded depending on the outcome of your previous degree. |

emmahoney: It makes no sense at all. I have applied for Police Clearance Certificate in my current country and I interviewed for it two days ago. Just a few minutes ago, someone told me that I need to get it from Nigeria!! Is that correct? He said that if I don't they will deny me a visa! I have been living here for 3 yrs and 8 months. I have not even submitted my application and I am already exhausted. Please get for the two countries so you’d be on a safe side, because these people no get joy o. |

emmahoney: It appears that this South African Visa is tougher than I thought. With this experience of yours, I am beginning to be confused.
I recently got a postdoc at Wits. You said because "my South African police report was not included." Is this required from someone living outside SA? Please clarify that.
Among all the requirements, I saw "the applicant needs to provide all educational qualification certificates with the notary. All my certificates were attested by the Ministry of Education and Foreign Affairs of Nigeria. Do I still need to notarize them? In addition, my PhD defence will be held in May 2023 (thesis submitted on 31st Jan 2023). Do you think a letter indicating that my thesis had been submitted is enough proof at the embassy?
Thank you in anticipation of your reply. Extremely tough! Extremely! In fact if I had known I would not have applied. Why will someone wait for 6 months for visa & get refused. USA would never, China would never! It’s now africa to africa, it would never make sense to me. Very abnormal & Absurd. |

Graceness777: Hello please i need an answer urgently,Can I fly with my 2years and 5month old sitting on my lap? South African Airways' policy on lap infants states that children between the ages of 0 and 2 years old may travel on an adult's lap for a fee of 10% of the adult fare, plus taxes and surcharges, as long as the accompanying adult is 18 years or older and is seated in a designated seat. This is subject to availability of space on the aircraft and is at the discretion of the airline. However, it's important to note that some airlines may have different policies and regulations, so it's best to check directly with South African Airways or the airline you plan to travel with to confirm their policies and procedures for traveling with lap infants. Additionally, it's important to consider the safety and comfort of both you and your child during the flight, and to ensure that you have all necessary documents and equipment for your child's travel. |

chemashie: Yes! This is the only logical reason for holding people's passports and ultimately rejecting the applications. In January 2022, I submitted an application for a research/visitor visa, but it was denied in June 2022 because my South African police report was not included. I quickly obtained the police report and resubmitted the application in July 2022. My visa came out in February with validity running from February to December 2023. This is how my two-year postdoctoral fellowship was reduced from 24 to 10 months. If not for the fact that my university started paying my stipends in January 2022 and that I published three articles and wrote one book chapter working remotely from Nigeria, the postdoc would have been terminated in 2022. A number of my friends' postdoc fellowships at other schools were terminated due to delay from the embassy. We should not also forget that the country belongs to them and they have every right to allow/disallow other nationals from entry their country. I totally understand this, I know it’s their country but it will be wise of them to say. We are not issuing visas to foreign nationals or Nigerians. Or The processing time for visas takes 10 months to process even at that visas are not guaranteed. Simple, they should have put this on the VFS announcement board and save people the stress of applying. They should make it known to applicants. And to my knowledge they look for errors and reason to refuse you Visa as they have refused Visa based on their own negligence. |

samtol4: It Is a strong signal they want to reduce the number of Nigerians coming to SA. The message is loud & clear. Which embassy will hold the applicant's passport for ten months and later deny the application? There is no point coming to SA to study unless you have funding or a fee waiver I’m not even against the refusal, but why will you hold people’s passport for 8-10months, then they will come and lie it’s backlog. It’s Which backlog will make you hold passport for 8 months? Then the person will receive it and see a refusal notice. It’s just Pure wickedness & Evil. I won’t blame them, it’s the Nigerian Foreign Ministry I blame because if they were working, Nigerians won’t have to go through this Ill-treatment from these people. |

ayor2023: Please I need your counsel, I applied for study visa via vfs by mid Dec. but told it got to embassy 3rd Jan and under processing, when should I be expecting response? Any moment from 10 weeks from the day it got to the embassy. It can be 15/20 weeks. It is not fixed, their Visa processes is flawed. So just be praying yours comes early and positive. Some people waited like 20 weeks and still got refused. Just pray it comes really fast. Someone applied in December and have gotten, someone applied in October and still waiting for outcome. You see why I said it is a very flawed process |

Omocity: Thanks for your advice but my application was done here in Nigeria and since September the visa decisions are now made by the consular officers in Abuja. My application was submitted at the end of September so my passport is at Abuja not DHA Pretoria . If you can write to the minister/ Director General or those top officials in charge of temporary residence permit ( all of them) in DHA. They will refer your complaints to them at Abuja and Abuja have no choice than to reply them or still finalize your application. Just put in all neccesary details in your email for easy understanding |
