The knock sensor detects abnormal combustion (knocking or pinging) in the engine, which occurs when the air-fuel mixture ignites too early or under high pressure. If left unchecked, knocking can create severe stress on the engine, leading to permanent damage. The knock sensor sends signals to the engine control unit (ECU) to adjust ignition timing, preventing these harmful effects. By ensuring smoother combustion, the sensor helps maintain overall engine health and reliability.

Instead of providing immediate resistance, the pedal may sink gradually or require more effort to engage the brakes effectively. This can make braking feel unpredictable and less responsive, increasing stopping distances and making it harder to control the vehicle safely. The issue may worsen over time, leading to a situation where the pedal eventually reaches the floor without fully engaging the brakes.

In a significant display of commitment to fiscal responsibility, Argentina’s newly sworn-in President, Javier Milei, has taken bold measures to address the country’s hyperinflation crisis. The president has sold two national private jets and halved the number of official vehicles and drivers, aiming to save the nation an estimated $3 billion annually. The decision comes in response to the alarming 3,678% annual inflation rate predicted by the Minister of Economy, Luis Toto Caputo. Manuel Adorni, the president’s spokesperson, emphasized the urgency of the situation during a statement released on Friday. “Talking about 15,000% inflation is frightening for everyone, and that is what we are working on,” said Adorni during a press briefing. He highlighted that the current inflation rate stands at around 3,678% per year, resulting in a daily inflation rate of one percent, pushing the country into a state of hyperinflation. The move to sell the two airplanes, previously owned by the government-owned oil and gas company YPF, is seen as a strategic effort to curtail the impact of hyperinflation. Adorni explained that these jets were primarily utilized by privileged statesmen, and their sale is part of the government’s broader objective to eliminate such privileges. “One of the great objectives we have as a government is to put an end to privileges. The adjustment we intend to make on political expenses, only in operating expenses, is around US$ 3 billion per year,” stressed Adorni. President Milei has consistently demonstrated prudence in his approach to public finances. In addition to selling the national jets, he conducted a raffle of his last salary as a lawmaker, fulfilling a political vow to donate his monthly remuneration. “This is the last draw for my salary as a deputy because I now got myself another job,” stated the 53-year-old Argentine president during an Instagram live session. These measures underscore Milei’s commitment to steering Argentina away from the challenges posed by hyperinflation and excessive government spending. https://thisweekng.com/new-argentine-president-sells-jets-slashes-expenses-to-combat-argentinas-hyperinflation-challenge/

In a strategic move to address the impact of removing illegal structures along the canal path and alignment in system 156 (Orchid Estate – Ajiran – Agungi), the Special Adviser on Environment, Hon. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, along with Engr. Shodeinde, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Drainage Services (ODS), and other Directors engaged in a dialogue with property owners and stakeholders. The discussion aimed to find a more effective solution to the persistent flooding caused by these unauthorized constructions. During the meeting, property owners acknowledged encroachments on alignments and the closure of the canal path, deviating from the Lagos State Drainage Master Plan. They requested a timeframe to consult their engineers for a feasible approach to reopen the canal path with minimal impact on existing structures. The ongoing enforcement of due process in Lagos State focuses on mitigating persistent flooding. Despite enforcing compliance, the government remains open to alternative suggestions. The Ministry has granted property owners the opportunity to present their options. If viable alternatives are not presented within the stipulated timeframe, the enforcement team will step in, accompanied by a contravention notice mandating the removal of fences and other violating structures. The Ministry emphasized that if property owners fail to address the issues using their resources, the government might change its approach. The intention is to enforce compliance and then seek reimbursement from property owners for taxpayer funds deployed. Concerns from Nigerians have surfaced, questioning why this collaborative approach wasn’t adopted in previous demolitions, allowing property owners time for amendments instead of immediate destruction. Twitter users expressed diverse opinions on the matter. @HONEYEDCROWN urged swift action, stating, “No alternative was provided for others so why are these ones getting preferential treatment. Bring it down already.“ @HenryIkwunemere highlighted perceived double standards, stating, “Why the double standards in approach compared to other areas like Ojo, Amuwo Odofin, and Oshodi Isolo?” @ideniyor advocated for a strict stance, asserting, “The government should bring them all down and pass the expense to the owners. Don’t negotiate or relent.“ @mmayomi questioned the fate of already destroyed properties, saying, “What about the properties that have been destroyed Sir? I do not agree with this move but let’s see how it pans out.” @brotherbarth commended the new approach and suggested thorough investigation, stating, “This way path of least impacts can easily be adopted for the general good of all.” @abiodunosemobor acknowledged the collaboration but cautioned against potential challenges, saying, “It is a good idea to carry the property owners along and mitigate impact. However, these are lawbreakers whose transgressions have consequences.“ @Flame_dab remarked on the shift in strategy, saying, “Is this like a volte-face? Have you now seen what others have been saying regarding your blunt force?“ @abiodunosemobor voiced concerns about possible delays, stating, “Your enemy will be ‘Time and possible ambush tactics.'” The public discourse highlights varying opinions on the government’s evolving approach to enforcement and collaboration with property owners in addressing unauthorized structures. https://thisweekng.com/lagos-government-collaborates-with-property-owners-opt-for-alternative-suggestions/

In a recent exchange of statements, the Presidency and the flag bearer of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, found themselves embroiled in a contentious debate over the budgetary allocation of N15.5 billion for the completion of the Vice President’s residence. The allocated funds, a focal point in the 2024 budget proposal, sparked disagreement as Obi expressed shock and disheartenment at the provision. The Presidency swiftly responded to Obi’s remarks, accusing him of attempting to manipulate public sentiment against the Bola Tinubu administration. Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity in the Office of the Vice President, issued a statement on Tuesday refuting Obi’s claims. Nkwocha clarified that the project in question did not originate from Tinubu’s administration but was instead initiated by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. The statement emphasized the need to set the record straight for historical accuracy amid the reactions and invocations sparked by Obi’s comments. According to the statement, “The proposed plan for the construction of the Vice President’s official residence, for which a budgetary allocation was made in the 2024 budget by the FCT Administration, was awarded by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. It was not originated by the present administration. This, Mr. Obi knows but chose to play dumb, all in a bid to inflame a targeted group of Nigerians and, as usual, score cheap political goals, accolades and praises.” The statement further detailed the history of the project, revealing that it was reinitiated in 2010 and funded by the Jonathan administration but subsequently abandoned. Nyesom Wike, the current FCT Minister, took the initiative to revive the project upon discovering its sorry state—overgrown with weeds and inhabited by reptiles after about 13 years of neglect. Addressing the controversy surrounding the budget, the statement invited discerning Nigerians to scrutinize the situation and determine the real waste. It questioned whether Obi’s objections to the government’s attention to the project were more wasteful than leaving an incomplete and decaying structure that had absorbed significant public funds over the years. As the clash between the Presidency and Peter Obi unfolds, the magazine explores the intricacies of the disagreement, shedding light on the historical context of the Vice President’s residence project and the differing perspectives on its budgetary allocation in the 2024 fiscal plan. https://thisweekng.com/presidency-clashes-with-peter-obi-over-vps-residence-budget/

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has stated that governors, including Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, can rehabilitate federal roads in the states, following approval by the Federal Government. Recall that while speaking at the inauguration of Ven. Ebenezer Saiki, as the second Bishop of Akoko-Edo Diocese held at St. James Cathedral, Ugbogbo, Igarra, in Akoko Edo Local Government Area, Obaseki alleged that despite many requests by his administration, the Federal Government has refused to allow him to fix the dilapidated federal roads. The governor called on residents and other road users to plead with the Federal Government to allow the state to fix them. Speaking on the infrastructure battle of the Tinubu administration while inspecting ongoing road rehabilitations in Lagos, Umahi said the Federal Government cannot prevent governors from road repairs, which can enhance the welfare of residents. He rejected what he described as blackmail by Edo State Governor, who had complained about the poor state of federal roads in the Southsouth state. Umahi, the immediate-past Governor of Ebonyi State, said: “The ministry is willing to speed up approval for the state government to carry out rehabilitation of the bad potions. “I will advise my brother and friend, Governor Godwin Obaseki, to stop playing politics with the lives of his citizens. He should stop trivalising the lives of his people on the altar of politics. The election has been won and lost. “If he approaches me by whatever means to seek permission, even if he sends me requests by WhatsApp or whatever, I will give him approval within two hours so that he can start. But I am going to visit Edo State, and I am going to look at those roads.” Umahi added: “I saw where something was credited to him; I believe he didn’t say so. But if he said so, this is the answer: that was not the true position. The true position is that all governors, and when I was governor, we also intervened in federal roads. My position is that when the people are suffering due to bad roads, the people do not know which one is federal, which one is state, and which one is local government. “He doesn’t need our permission as such to intervene, to give a better life to the people of Edo State and other Nigerians that are using the roads. “I want him to approach the Ministry of Works and seek permission. I am going to visit Edo State, and I am going to look at those roads. Every road in this country becomes a priority, and we are going to face the challenges within the limit of the scarce resources. “My good brother Obaseki, I want you to send your request on WhatsApp to me, and I will give you approval within two hours when I get it. But I want to know what you are building, and I will advise you to use bitumen. I have seen some of those things in the pictures. If you use rigid pavements, and you can get the design within one hour from me, you will be very much safe. “But we are also working in Edo State, from Lokoja to Benin, we are doing that. There are other jobs that are also ongoing Z in Benin, Edo State, that I cannot tell you off heart. But we are very committed in Edo State, and Mr. President is also very committed to every part of this country.” https://thisweekng.com/federal-roads-stop-playing-politics-send-me-a-whatsapp-message-umahi-tackles-gov-obaseki/

Top political gladiators close to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and in the Senate have been fingered in the plot to stop the appointment of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, as a minister in the present administration. Naija News understands that El-Rufai’s ministerial confirmation was suspended following a security report by the Department of State Security (DSS). However, reports have now emerged claiming that the decision to hold back his confirmation emanated from high-wired politics involving the Vice President, Kashim Shettima; Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu. According to reports, the political ‘strongmen’ around the president are looking far ahead to the post-Tinubu years and are worried a cabinet post could put El-Rufai in a prime position to be a political force. Recall that when El-Rufai appeared before the Senate for the screening, a Senator from Kogi State, Sunday Karimi, after commending El-Rufai for his achievements in public office, said he had a petition against him that bothered on “security, unity, and cohesiveness.” He urged the Senate to consider the petition while screening the nominee. When El-Rufai wanted to speak to the petition, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, said he should not bother. However, Leadership newspaper revealed that the petition was allegedly given to Senator Karimi by Akpabio on the morning of the screening exercise. He was only asked to present it. This, perhaps, explains why he was recognized by Akpabio immediately after he raised his hands. A Senate source disclosed that the letter that the President of the Senate relied on to stop the confirmation of El-Rufai and others was addressed to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate) and signed by one Aminu Yusuf, a Director in the office of the Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS). Leadership reports that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, alongside the Chief of Staff, Gbajabiamila, allegedly got a Director in the office of the DG, SSS, to sign the letter. Reliable sources alleged that Shettima, Ribadu, and Gbajabiamila feel threatened by El-Rufai. They allegedly do not want him to serve in the government and succeed because they are already planning for 2027 or 2031, as the case may be, and they see him as a potential threat to their aspirations. A presidential aide who spoke on the condition of anonymity, however, dismissed the alleged scheming by the Vice President, the chief of staff, and the national security adviser, saying none of them can act without the president’s approval. The aide also said it would be unfair to expect them to respond to some of the allegations made by proxy in El-Rufai’s name while the former governor himself has said nothing. But sources say other forces outside the government are also propelling them. “If he (Tinubu) really means well and wants El-Rufai to deliver for him on constant power supply, he knows what to do to get him confirmed as it happened in the case of Festus Keyamo. “Recall that during Obasanjo’s administration, El-Rufai had an issue with the lawmakers when he alleged that some of them were demanding bribe from him. Obasanjo intervened, and the matter was resolved, and the Senate cleared him,” one of the sources said. https://thisweekng.com/how-shettima-ribadu-gbajabiamila-akpabio-allegedly-moved-against-el-rufai/

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will conduct four by-elections into National Assembly seats recently declared vacant by lawmakers nominated for ministers by President Bola Tinubu. INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this at the 2023 post-election review meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Lagos on Friday. Mr Yakubu explained that the four by-elections would be conducted to fill the vacant seats by two senators and two members of the House of Representatives nominated for ministerial posts from their states. “These are Surulere I Constituency in Lagos State, Jalingo Yaransi Constituency in Taraba, Chibok State Constituency in Borno and Chifun State Constituency in Kaduna State. “Also, there are four National Assembly seats recently declared vacant arising from the screening of the ministerial nominees that is ongoing at the national assembly,” Mr Yakubu said. He said in all, INEC has eight by-elections, adding that the polls would also allow it to keep test-running some of the suggestions and recommendations at the post-election meeting with stakeholders. Mr Yakubu explained that the commission would implement the suggestions made at the meeting with stakeholders to plan better for the Imo, Bayelsa and Kogi elections on November 11. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Thursday warned of a nationwide strike commencing August 14, 2023, if the Federal Ministry of Justice doesn’t withdraw its lawsuit against the labour union. We had earlier reported that the Federal Government on Wednesday filed a lawsuit against NLC over their protest. NLC, however, after a meeting of its National Executive Council in Abuja threatened to embark on strike. The union president, Joe Ajaero, criticized the Ministry of Justice and National Industrial Court, saying they’ve allowed themselves to be “agents of anti-democracy.” Despite previously agreeing to halt protests following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, the union vowed to initiate a nationwide strike if the lawsuit isn’t withdrawn by the government. He said, “to support and affirm the decision to suspend further protest on the nationwide mass protest; to commit to maintaining the required vigilance needed to hold government accountable on its assurances and governance in general; To commit to the terminal date of August 19, 2023, within which the issues around the Petroleum price hike will be agreed given the assurances of the President and the National Assembly. “To go on total strike across the country any day labour leaders are summoned to court by the government through the NICN. To demand the immediate withdrawal of this litigious terrorism by the Federal Ministry of Justice before the end of work Friday, the 11th of August, 2023. “To embark on a nationwide comprehensive strike beginning Monday, 14th of August, 2023 if this contemptuous court summons is not withdrawn by whosoever initiated it.” https://thisweekng.com/nlc-threatens-nationwide-strike-over-lawsuit/

Some aggrieved senators have concluded plans to challenge the emergence of Senator Godswill Akpabio as Senate President of the 10th National Assembly in court. The lawmakers have decided to approach the courts to challenge Akpabio’s victory on the grounds that the ballot papers used in the election were serially barcoded. Some senators elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are also considering dumping the party. Speaking to Leadership, a senator disclosed that 22 Senators have perfected plans to defect to other political parties, thereby giving the opposition the majority in the Senate. In the event such plans materialise, the opposition would have 72 Senators, while the APC would be left with 37 Senators. Two senators from the North East who shared similar stances about the election said the election was manipulated against the candidature of Senator Abdulaziz Yari. One of the senators said, “Even though the election has been held and Akpabio emerged, there are still questions surrounding his victory. The ballot papers were tampered with and compromised. The ballot papers were serially barcoded such that the idea of secret balloting never existed. Some senators were forced to vote against their will. These actions were not only undemocratic but unconstitutional and embarrassing. “Many senators who voted for Akpabio did so under compulsion and threat. They never wanted him to be president. We are interested in telling the world how barcodes were used to rig the election. “Why should an electoral process be tampered with? Until it is determined there would be too many other questions to answer in the 10th senate. This is the first time ballot papers will have barcodes. Akpabio won’t last as Senate President.” According to a senator from North West, “An election that was supposed to be secret balloting was manipulated and compromised. “We believe that the right thing must be done to avoid international embarrassment. What happened on June 13 was against the Senate rule. You can’t have a Senate president that came on board illegally. We will challenge the process and make sure that the electoral processes are not tampered with in the future.” https://thisweekng.com/10th-nass-senators-to-drag-akpabio-to-court-over-emergence-as-senate-president/

President Bola Tinubu has been accused of approving a luxurious retirement package for the recently sacked Service Chiefs to avoid an overthrow of his government. Naija News gathered that the accusation was levelled against the President by the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general election, Omoyele Sowore. According to the AAC flag bearer, Tinubu sacrificed the interest of Nigerians to give the sacked Service Chiefs mouthwatering benefits in other to consolidate his government. Recall that the President had last month approved the immediate removal of all the previous Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, and the Comptroller-General of Customs from service and appointed their replacements with immediate effect in June. Sowore’s reaction follows a report by The Punch on Saturday that the Chief of Defence Staff and the service chiefs got bulletproof Sport Utility Vehicles, personal aides, guards and other perks of office, including generous allowance for medical treatment abroad, as retirement benefits. It was learnt that the former Service Chiefs that would be benefiting from the package include the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao. Taking to his Twitter handle to react to the development, Sowore asserted that the rumours to take over Tinubu’s government while he travelled to France last month could have been true with the kind of retirement packages he has offered the sacked Service Chiefs. The AAC flag bearer noted that all Tinubu has done since his inauguration as President were in the favour of his people, all in the interest of consolidating his power. Sowore wrote “I think the rumour of their (military) plan to take out @officialABAT before his return from France might be true after all. So far, the interests of ordinary Nigerians have been sacrificed to get Tinubu’s power consolidated. “To the World Bank/IMF, he removed fuel subsidy and commenced defunding public education, to make “foreign investors” and currency speculators happy, he floated the naira, to please his political friends he raided the offices of the @officialEFCC and carted away sensitive criminal investigations materials related to and of PEPs, and to keep the military boys happy, he gave them mouthwatering never-heard-before retirement benefits. #Revolutionnow.” https://thisweekng.com/sowore-reveals-why-tinubu-gave-sacked-service-chiefs-luxurious-retirement-packages/
