PoliticsINEC Likes Tweet Where Seun Kuti Calls Peter Obi ‘opportunist’, ‘capitalist’ by Busy76(op): 2:35pm On Feb 08, 2023
The Independent National Electoral Commission has endorsed a report that labels Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, as a “capitalist” and a “opportunist.”
Peter Obi: An opportunist, won’t help Nigeria – Seun Kuti was the headline of a Premium Times report liked by INEC via its official Twitter handle. In the story, Fela Anikulapo’s son disparaged the Labour Party’s presidential candidate as a capitalist.

“He hasn’t had the time because he started too late. You can’t be telling me that just because you lost PDP primaries 18 months before the election, you suddenly started a movement, and you have a plan for the country,” Mr Kuti explained.

He added, “No, that’s opportunism. And it’s not an opportunist that will deliver Nigeria—not jumping on Labour Party. The Labour Party has a socialist structure. Peter Obi is a capitalist. Where are they going?”

Mr Obi, who said he wishes Nigeria well, expressed doubt about what will happen next to Nigeria if he and his party lose the February 25 presidential election.

“If we get it wrong, nobody can tell what next will happen. In all I am doing, I will always wish Nigeria the best,” Mr Obi stressed. “I know you will, too and in doing that, I urge you to be part of the new Nigeria Datti and I are fighting for.”

Mr Obi stated this at a public presentation of the book, ‘Peter Obi: Many Voices, One Perspective’ this week in Abuja, reiterating his commitment to a “new Nigeria.”

“We are committed to it; as I told all the supporters, we need people. We need all of you to support us, especially in these final days to reach the end of this phase. Nigeria has suffered a lot,” stated the former Anambra governor. “This is a great country that can be turned around. “We cannot succeed without your intervention, so as you launch this book, please be part of what we are doing to change Nigeria.”

PoliticsINEC To Engage MC Oluomo-led Parks Committee To Distribute Election Materials by Busy76(op): 10:25pm On Feb 07, 2023
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed plans to engage Lagos State Parks Management Committee headed by Musiliu (MC Oluomo) Akinsanya, a Lagos APC chieftain, to distribute election materials.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos State, Olusegun Agbaje made this known while responding to questions on controversies around the engagement of the MC Oluomo-led committee during the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting at the INEC office on Tuesday, in Lagos.

“There is a ban on the NURTW and RTEAN, we are only left with the Park Management system and NARTO (National Association of Road Transport Owners) and we are already working with NARTO.

“NARTO is not even able to meet up with 40 per cent of our vehicle requirements for this election. The commission in Lagos State does not have any option than to use the park management system,” Mr Agbaje explained.

Agbaje stressed that the commission was not concerned about Akinsanya, a loyalist of APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu.

“We are not dealing with Oluomo, we are dealing with the park managers. Individual people that have vehicles are those we are going to use.

“So, it will be against the law if INEC has to continue to work with NURTW or any other group that is proscribed in the state,” the INEC boss said.

The INEC boss further maintained that working with the state parks management committee would not reduce the credibility of the polls as the movement of electoral personnel and materials would be monitored by security agencies, party agents and observers.

“So, I don’t see how this can compromise the election in any way. Our politicians should see the peculiarity in Lagos State; we cannot work with banned NURTW or RTEAN.

“We need over 5,000 vehicles for this election, including trucks, buses and so on to carry our people and materials for the elections. There is no other way we can go.

“We cannot go to other states and bring vehicles here, it is not allowed by law. The only way we can operate is through the park management system,” he stated.

Mr Agbaje assured that the commission would not use any politically branded vehicle for the elections, such as any vehicle carrying the logo of a party or image of any candidate.

During a visit to the state today, January 30, angry Kano residents stormed a helicopter in President Muhammadu Buhari’s convoy.
President Buhari is currently in the region to commission some projects. Videos posted online show some Kano citizens throwing stones at the helicopter and chanting “Bamayi” (we don’t want) throughout the visit.

This comes days after Governor Abdullahi Ganduje requested that Buhari postpone his trip owing to potential security concerns brought on by the hardships that Nigerians are experiencing as a result of the Naira swap deadline and the petrol shortage.

EducationPoly Nekede Investigates Graduate Who Credited Her Degree To “god And Her Pussy" by Busy76(op): 7:37pm On Jan 30, 2023
The claimed Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo State student boasted on Tiktok that she graduated with God’s assistance and the use of her private organ
Authorities at Federal Polytechnic Nekede in Owerri, Imo State, have taken steps to identify a graduating female student who boasted on a famous social media platform that she used a private organ and received help from God to succeed.

The student said in the video, which was also extensively shared on Facebook, that the good scores she received in her exams and the successful defense of her final year project were both made possible by her pussy.

She thanked God for giving her a “hot pussy,” saying that it has enabled her to succeed academically and that she wouldn’t have been able to graduate without using it to organize her grades and project defense.

The Federal Polytechnic Nekede management, however, did not find the story amusing and has taken steps to uncover the pupils’ identities and verify her claims.

The Registrar of the Polytechnic, Eucharia Anuna, who made this declaration, further noted that it was blasphemous and contrary that the student promoted the name of the Almighty in her “deleterious behavior.”

Management considers the action of the student as most unacceptable and preposterous.

“The Federal Polytechnic Nekede prides itself as an institution with high academic and moral standards.”

“Both staff and students are quite aware of the consequences of any misconduct.

“In an unprecedented move, management through the various disciplinary committees, had released hot lines through which students can report any act of exploitation or corruption,” the registrar said.

Anuna said the committees were diligent in ensuring that any staff or student found culpable was meted with appropriate punishment.

She added that the despicable post of the supposed student does not therefore represent the standard of our institution.

“The rector of the institution, being a clergyman, has been very committed and consistent in instilling discipline in our students through seminars, solemn assemblies, sensitisation outreaches and publications.

“When our investigations are over, we shall make our findings and pronouncements public.

“It is in our purview to ensure that only students found worthy in learning and character are certified.

“This is a commitment to which we shall remain consistently resolute,” the Registrar added.

Foreign AffairsBoris Johnson Claims Vladimir Putin Threatened To Kill Him With A Missile Strike by Busy76(op): 12:53pm On Jan 30, 2023
Former UK Prime minister, Boris Johnson has said Russian president, Vladimir Putin threatened him with a missile strike in an “extraordinary” phone call in the run-up to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The then-prime minister said Putin told him it “would only take a minute”.

Johnson said the comment was made after he warned Putin the war would be an “utter catastrophe” during a “very long” call in February 2022.

Details of the conversation are revealed in a new BBC documentary, “Putin vs the West” examining Mr Putin’s interactions with world leaders before invasion of Ukraine.

Johnson warned Putin that invading Ukraine would lead to Western sanctions and more Nato troops on Russia’s borders.

He also tried to deter Russian military action by telling Putin that Ukraine would not join Nato “for the foreseeable future”.

“He threatened me at one point, and he said, ‘Boris, I don’t want to hurt you but, with a missile, it would only take a minute’ or something like that. Jolly.

“But I think from the very relaxed tone that he was taking, the sort of air of detachment that he seemed to have, he was just playing along with my attempts to get him to negotiate.”

President Putin had been “very familiar” during the “most extraordinary call”, Johnson said.

No one knows if Putin’s threat was genuine.

However, given previous Russian attacks on the UK – most recently in Salisbury in 2018 any threat from the Russian leader, however lightly delivered, is probably one Johnson would have had taken seriously.

Boris Johnson received a call from President Putin the day after he met Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.Nine days later, on 11 February, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace flew to Moscow to meet his Russian counterpart, Sergei Shoigu.

In the documentary Wallace left with assurances that Russia would not invade Ukraine, but he said both sides knew it was a lie.

He described it as a “demonstration of bullying or strength, which is: I’m going to lie to you, you know I’m lying and I know you know I’m lying and I’m still going to lie to you.

“I think it was about saying ‘I’m powerful’,” Mr Wallace said.

He said the “fairly chilling, but direct lie” had confirmed his belief that Russia would invade.

As he left the meeting, he said Gen Valery Gerasimov – Russia’s chief of general staff – told him “never again will we be humiliated”.

Less than a fortnight later, as tanks rolled over the border on 24 February, Johnson said he received a phone call in the middle of the night from President Zelensky.

“Zelensky’s very, very calm,” Mr Johnson recalled. “But, he tells me, you know, they’re attacking everywhere.”

Johnson says he offered to help move the president to safety.

“He doesn’t take me up on that offer. He heroically stayed where he was.”

PoliticsElections: Police Deploy Anti-bomb Equipment And Train EOD Personnel (PHOTOS) by Busy76(op): 9:47am On Jan 30, 2023
The Nigeria Police Force has finished training the members of its Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit in advance of the general election in 2023.

PoliticsForeign Hackers Are Attacking Our Database – INEC Chairman by Busy76(op): 11:03am On Jan 27, 2023
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has expressed concern over foreign hackers attacking the commission’s database.
The 2023 General Elections; Judiciary and Sustainability of Nigeria’s Democracy was the focus of Yakubu’s address on January 26 at the 2022 National Conference of the National Association of Judiciary Correspondents (NAJUC) in Abuja.

The attacks are not merely coming from Nigeria, according to the INEC chairman, who was represented by the deputy director of ICT, Dr. Lawrence Bayode.

He said;

“We were looking at the system yesterday and we were seeing that people were trying to come into the system from France but we also are putting some things in place.

BusinessCentral Bank Of Nigeria Introduces The National Domestic Card Program Afrigo. by Busy76(op): 10:50am On Jan 27, 2023
The Central Bank of Nigeria, has carried out its plan to introduce the AfriGo national domestic card program.
The program, which was first unveiled at a Bankers’ Committee news conference in October 2022, involves the central bank in the market’s triopoly of card payment programs for Nigeria.

Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, claims that this initiative will promote financial inclusion and consolidate card financial data in Nigeria while also serving as a source of national pride for those who embrace it.

“The national domestic card avails us the sovereignty of our data. Secondly, it comes at lower costs, ” he said.

Nigeria remains a sizable market for players in the card payments market, which is largely dominated by global players like Mastercard and Visa, with Verve by Interswitch trailing behind. The annual value of card transactions in the Nigeria cards and payments market was capped at $18.2 billion in 2021.

To permit and facilitate cash transactions using debit and credit cards, these multinational corporations offer central payment networks that they link to debit and credit cards. Customers may then receive the cards from banks, financial institutions, or even retail establishments.

By breaking the triopoly and establishing a national card payment scheme, the CBN, in partnership with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), is positioning itself to disrupt and possibly dominate a fast-growing market. The CBN cites reduced operating costs and optimised foreign exchange usage as the hallmarks of its latest fintech foray.

“At this time when foreign exchange challenges persist globally, it is important for me to say that we have come up with this card to ensure that all online card transactions will now, effective immediately, begin to go on the nigerian national domestic system,” Emefiele said.

“NIBSS and CBN will work together to make sure foreign exchange is charged for only international transactions made on Visa and Mastercards as we have it now. This is so because many of the cards we use currently charge in foreign currency. However, with the launch of the national domestic card, all domestic transactions are to be carried out on the national domestic card scheme,” he added, speaking further on the payment of forex.

Notably, this “homegrown” scheme is the first of its kind in Africa, but it’s a route common to some top economies like China, India, Brazil, and Turkey. In India, Rupay, the government-backed card payment scheme, dominates the card market, owing to its efficiency, relatively low cost, and policy backing. To date, more than 600 million Rupay cards have been issued.

Mr. Premier Oiwoh, the managing director/CEO of the NIBSS, noted that the scheme was developed to address the specific pain points of Nigeria’s payment industry and provide customised innovative offerings.

If this scheme records the successes of Rupay, then Nigerians will be able to pay lesser amounts for debit cards and the likes. But the question of reliability and interoperability can only be truly answered when the cards enter circulation.

Speaking on how this move could stifle competition from global players, Emefiele said, “The Nigerian market is vast and the current participants have done so much in the last 12 years to transform the ecosystem. Yet there is much ground to cover as millions of Nigerians are still without cards to consummate transactions.”

“I am convinced that the national domestic card scheme will make this a reality in the coming months. We can no longer neglect the vast majority of Nigerians,” he added.

AfriGOpay Financial Services Limited (AFSL), a NIBSS-affiliated organisation, is responsible for deploying and overseeing the adoption of the national domestic card scheme.

BusinessNetflix To Ban Password Sharing From March 2023. by Busy76(op): 10:42am On Jan 27, 2023
In the upcoming months, Netflix will start prohibiting customers from disclosing their account passwords to anybody outside of their household, the video streaming firm hinted in a letter to shareholders last week.
Last spring, the streaming juggernaut made its first suggestions about intentions to limit household Netflix password sharing.

In Latin American nations, Netflix tested a paid version of account sharing where users could add a “sub-account” for an extra $3 per month.

Paid sharing will now be implemented “more generally later in Q1,” which concludes on March 31st.

“From our experience in Latin America, we expect some cancel reaction in each market when we roll out paid sharing, which impacts near term member growth,” Netflix said in its letter. “But as borrower households begin to activate their own standalone accounts and extra member accounts are added, we expect to see improved overall revenue.”

Netflix currently allows multiple customized profiles to be created under a single account, but the profiles are intended to be used by members of the same household.

“While these have been hugely popular, they have also created some confusion about when and how Netflix can be shared,” Chengyi Long, Netflix’s director of product innovation, wrote in a statement announcing the paid share feature last year. “As a result, accounts are being shared between households – impacting our ability to invest in great new TV and films for our members.”

Netflix’s method for identifying password sharing
According to Netflix, it can identify devices in a household using IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity. According to its existing policy, if a gadget is regularly used outside the home, users may be asked to authenticate it.

Netflix’s recent pricing changes
The announcement of paid sharing’s expansion also comes one year after Netflix raised its prices, boosting the basic $8.99 monthly plan to $9.99 in the United States.
It also rolled out a $6.99 monthly subscription for a version of the service with advertisements in November.

PoliticsNaja’atu Mohammed Explains Why She Won’t Support Peter Obi by Busy76(op): 12:22pm On Jan 26, 2023
Naja’atu Mohammed, a former All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Council Director for the Civil Society Organization, has outlined why she would not support Peter Obi, the Labour Party, LP’s presidential candidate.

During a question-and-answer session on Thursday’s episode of Arise Television’s Morning Show, Naja’atu explained her reasoning. Recall that Naja’atu just tendered her resignation from her position with the APC and Tinubu’s campaign team.

She was fired, according to Tinubu’s campaign council, for acting as a spy for the opposition.

When asked why she chose Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, as her favorite candidate for the upcoming presidential election, Naja’atu said that she was torn between Tinubu and Atiku and was forced to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea.

She said, ”I am not doing Atiku today for anything. I gave my reasons, and my reasons I said, Peter Obi is a movement, I said that. And I also said this is the first time the Nigerian youths have a voice and are coming together to form some kind of movement; it is not even about Peter Obi. This movement will outlive Mr Peter Obi. What I said is that they have a structural problem.

”I will give you an example; Buhari, since 2003, was getting 15 million votes, but he could not be president. Why? Despite the cult followership the North gave to Buhari, why didn’t he win? He did not win because he had structural problems and could not build bridges. It took the alliance, which he had rejected severally with the Southwest in particular, that he was able to become president; that is the only reason. And what I will also say is this, I have no luxury of time; there is no luxury of time, and that is why I said I am choosing between a devil and a deep blue sea.”

Politics“height Of Imbecility” – Keyamo Attacks Melaye Over Mockery Of Tinubu (video) by Busy76(op): 2:10pm On Jan 25, 2023

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXSSmGBTnYw

Festus Keyamo, the spokeswoman for the APC Presidential Campaign Organization, responded to a video that went viral showing Senator Dino Melaye appearing to mock the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by “falling on stage.”

Melaye is seen dancing to a song that makes fun of Tinubu’s health in the video, which has now gone viral, before purposefully falling on stage.

Sen. McCain has a deformity in one hand, Keyamo tweeted in response to the news. McCain was Obama’s opponent in the 2008 US election.

Obama’s team treated him well and never made fun of him for it. A VP candidate, however, laughs as a clown enters the stage to make fun of another contender. It is the height of imbecility. They should apologize to Nigerians.

Diran Onifade, Head of Media, Obi/Datti Presidential Campaign Council, condemned the attack on the presidential candidate.

He said in a statement;

“Our candidate had met with women in a townhall and then held a hugely successful Rally at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium. However, on his way to the airport, hoodlums attacked the car our candidate was riding in with heavy stones from his drivers’ side causing substantial damage to the vehicle.

“To the glory of God, Mr Obi and other occupants of the car were unhurt. Subsequently another set of thugs also threw stones outside the stadium which damaged several vehicles including that of our official stage crew.”

PoliticsPeter Obi May Step Down For Atiku, As Campaign Council Considers Option by Busy76(op): 5:08pm On Jan 24, 2023
Having realised that there is no path to victory in next month general election, the campaign council of the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi is already considering how the former Anambra State Governor will step down for Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate.

WesternPost exclusively gathered from top officials of the Peter Obi campaign team that many of the associates of the Labour Party candidate and advisers have come to the realisation that the coming election is going to be a straight fight between APC and PDP.

Our correspondent gathered that key officers of Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council met on Monday at a top hotel in Abuja where they reviewed the state of their campaign so far and the prospect of Peter Obi, following the emerging realities and lack of ground enthusiasm to Peter Obi from his campaign stops in the North, South-West and South-South

Peter Obi and his running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed have been welcomed by almost empty stadia at his rallies which is a clear indication that his presidential bid lacks steam with real voters. The Labour Party candidate has carried on with his campaign activities largely based on social media energy of many active young people on Twitter and Facebook.

A top source who is in the know told WesternPost that apart from the reality of winning the election hitting home, there is serious in-fighting in Obi’s camp where many of the vocal campaign officials are all jostling for relevance and protecting their territories.

At the meeting that took place in Abuja on Monday, our source revealed that Valentine Ozigbo, PDP candidate in last Anambra State Governorship election and Peter Obi’s protege and Ndi Kato, a Spokesperson of the Labour Party Campaign Council agreed that their party and candidate do not have the number to win with a state by state analysis of the electoral map.

The meeting analysed Atiku’s chances and the existing relationship between the PDP candidate and Peter Obi. The Labour Party candidate was the running mate to Atiku in 2019 Presidential election won by President Muhammadu Buhari and APC.

According to our source: “Peter Obi and his people are planning to align with Atiku in the coming election.
Key officers of Peter Obi’s team met yesterday in Abuja. They were analysing Atiku’s chances. There is some realization in the Obi camp that they can’t win and want to align. They mentioned how North-East will be split, that Sokoto Governor, the Director-General of Atiku’s Campaign Council won his own second term election with 200 votes and can’t guarantee his state for Atiku the votes from Sokoto. For them it is better to work with Atiku to win instead of dissipating South East votes which Obi can get on Igbo sentiments but will not be anywhere near enough to win the presidential election. At the meeting, they kept saying, “We don’t have the numbers to win.”

We also learned that Obi’s team postponed the Labour Party rally in Adamawa State which is Atiku’s home state, in view of the possible alignment talks between the PDP and LP.

On the in-fighting within Obi’s camp, our source said Ndi Kato and Aisha Yesufu don’t see eye to eye. Aisha Yesufu is an activist who gained national prominence on the back of the Bring Back Our Girls Campaign for Chibok girls kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014 and now one of Obi’s main backers. The two women fell out over issues of money.

“Ndi and Aisha Yesufu are having very bad fight over money and some personal stuffs,” our source revealed further.

PoliticsPeter Obi Mocks Atiku, Tinubu For Their Age And The Birthdate Controversies by Busy76(op): 3:54pm On Jan 24, 2023
Peter Obi, a contender for president of Nigeria in 2023, has urged young people and members of different unions all around the nation to join the Labour Party.

On January 22, Obi said that the Labour Party is one for young people and those in unions during a speech at a campaign rally in Kano.

The former governor of Anambra state claimed in a video seen by Legit.ng that other political parties are filled with individuals who are too old to manage national affairs.

His words: “Union people, the youths, this is your party, this is your future; we want to build a future for you.

“If you look at it, our government is coming down with age, if you look at me… The APC chairman ins 75 years old, PDP chairman is over 70 years, our chairman (Labour Party) is 52 years… It’s coming down.”

Obi also made mockery of Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, whose age has been a source of controversy in the political arena. He claimed that Nigeria needs young people in its leadership now more than ever.

Obi said:”If you combine my age and that of Datti, divide it into two, we are in fifty-something. “If you combine the other one; they are 70. The other one we don’t even know their age at all. We cannot continue this way. It (Nigeria’s presidential seat) is not old people’s home.”

PoliticsAtiku Sends Stern Warning To Wike We Will No Longer Tolerate His Insolent Tenden by Busy76(op): 11:39am On Jan 03, 2023
Senator Dino Melaye Spokesperson and Director Public Affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Management Committee has warned Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to discontinue his “unwarranted insult” on Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the party for the 2023 general elections.

How Wike poked Atiku: On Monday, Wike asked Atiku to leave him out of the attendant challenges he is facing in the PDP.

Wike dissed Atiku, using Obasanjo: Governor Wike, however, stated that a bad product is always difficult to sell, otherwise, former president Olusegun Obasanjo would have recommended Atiku to Nigerians having worked together with him.

What Obasanjo did: As his New Year announcement, the former president chose to endorse another presidential candidate, Peter Obi (Labour Party), rather than Atiku.

https://thisweekng.com/2023/01/03/atiku-sends-stern-warning-to-wike-we-will-no-longer-tolerate-his-insolent-tendencies/

Why this matters: Atiku was Obasanjo’s vice president. However, history has it that they had a rough public relationship.

Wike’s reaction to Obasanjo’s choice: Governor Wike insisted that if former president Obasanjo had refused to recommend Alhaji Atiku, then something must be fundamentally wrong.

What Atiku’s campaign said to Wike: “Atiku’s only crime is that he won a transparent presidential primary.

“Wike was chief of staff to Rotimi Amaechi but Amaechi did not trust him enough to hand over to him.

“I advise him to support whoever he wishes to support as we will no longer tolerate his insolent tendencies.

“The question is, is there something wrong with Wike that Amaechi did not hand over to him? Why will Prince Uche Secondus, Rt Hon. Austin Okpara, Sen. Lee Meaba, H:E Celestine Omehia, Chief Abiye Sikibo, Sen George Sekibo, Hon. Chinyere Igwe, etc, leave him unceremoniously for Atiku. Something is definitely wrong somewhere.”

PoliticsOhakim Narrates What Happened During His Assassination Attempt by Busy76(op): 11:19am On Jan 03, 2023
A former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim has narrated how gunmen attacked his convoy on Monday, January, 02, 2023, evening.

The incident happened at Oriagu, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area (LGA) of the state while the ex-governor was returning from a visit.
Reported casualties: Four of his police orderlies were killed.

Narrating the incident Ohakim said: “We were driving between Isiala Mbano and Ehime Mbano. These people blocked us at a place called Umualumaku.

“They attacked us from behind and were firing at our vehicles consistently. I thought I was a dead man and I was with two of my children – my son and daughter.

“What saved me was the bulletproof vehicle. That I am alive today is by the special grace of God and the bulletproof vehicle.

“But unfortunately for me they killed four of our boys, including the driver. Yes, we lost four of the boys and I am devastated. How can that be? What crime did they commit?”

He added: “They pursued us and continued firing at our tyres. Luckily, the vehicle has what is called run-flat tyres on which you can continue driving even after a puncture.

“So, even when they shot at the tyres hoping to immobilise us, the vehicle continued moving. If they were ordinary tyres and the vehicle had stopped, they would cornered and finished us.

“But the tyres held on until we got back home. We drove for about 20 minutes before we got home. That was the saving grace.

“The driver who manifested tremendous level of driving skill kept manoeuvring until he lost them at a junction when he went right and not knowing where we had gone, they headed the other direction on the road to Umuahia.

“We then turned and went back to my house. We were there when Imo Government House sent reinforcement from Owerri who brought the corpses of my security people.”

Who attacked Ohakim: “This goes beyond the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), I must say. These are professionals, well-trained. They are not ordinary people. They were driving a blue colour BMW 5-series car, brand new. They came to kill me.”

Ohakim, who said he saw the assailants said they were not amateurs.

PoliticsAPC Presidential Campaign Council Replies Olusegun Obasanjos Letter Of Peter Obi by Busy76(op): 9:09pm On Jan 02, 2023
On the whole, the latest epistolary misadventure by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is a gratuitous insult on the collective intelligence of Nigerians. In particular, his Laborious attempt to prey on the innocence of much younger generation constitutes a grievous assault on public morality, seeking to force morsels of sheer falsehood down the throats of a demography perhaps too young to comprehend events which Obasanjo furiously tried to misrepresent.

It is noteworthy that it was the Obasanjo administration that abolished the teaching of history in Nigerian schools ostensibly to aid this kind of historical revisionism he routinely engages in; a decision now happily reversed by the President Muhammadu Buhari government.

Contestants for the presidential office in Nigeria routinely consult with and court Obasanjo , not because of his electoral value which is minuscule, but out of respect for his status as a former Head of State. It is, however, obvious that the man himself has no respect for that status, as he continuously embroils himself in partisan politics in a most pretentious and dishonest manner and refuses to rise to the demands of statesmanship.

In the statement entitled “My Appeal To All Nigerians Particularly Young Nigerians”, General General Obasanjo rtd plumbed into new depth in hubris and hypocrisy never seen in all his career as political busybody after office who seems to see Nigeria as a movie where only he is the all-conquering hero while others are doomed villains.

Some psychoanalysts are wont to to diagnose this Obasanjo’s peculiar political affliction as post-power-withdrawal-syndrome (PPWS): false omniscience compounded by chronic inability to accept the reality of being out of political office Even in the US, whose variant of presidential system of government we practise, former Presidents maintain a decorous distance from government after office, opting wisely not to be a distraction to their successors.

Not so the meddlesome Obasanjo. That same mindset led him to stab MKO Abiola in the back in faraway Harare, Zimbabwe, by saying he was not “a messiah” even when most Nigerians had started viewing the winner of the June 12 polls of 1993 as the symbol of democracy after the annulment.

It soon came to light that whereas a group of retired generals including Muhammadu Buhari and Theophilus Danjuma were resolute in their call for the de-annulment through the platform of a “committee of elders”, Obasanjo, the supposed “convener”, was said to have plotted the floating of an “interim government” to replace the now discredited Babangida regime.

While Obasanjo’s right to support any candidate of his choice in the forthcoming presidential polls must be recognized as guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution, how condescending of him to decree his preference on Nigerians based on a cocktail of bare-faced lies and crude revisionism.

In fact, there’s a widespread allegation that the latest gambit by the political busybody of Ota is part of a larger nefarious scheme to incite disorder around the country with a view to clearing the grounds for the resurrection of his favourite contraption: interim national government (ING)!

Third term agenda

Contrary to his posturing as a democrat who came to office for the second time at a questionable age 62 and left at 70, Obasanjo’s feverish gamble for life presidency between 2005 and 2006 was actually thwarted by a pro-democracy coalition of Progressives like Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and several others.

Bribes ranging from N50m to N100m (amounting to whopping N20bn of public funds) were allegedly handed over to federal lawmakers to approve a clause smuggled into the list of amendments proposed by a “confab” (hurriedly set up by by Obasanjo), removing the cap on the two-term limit enshrined by the 1999 constitution.

Despite the outrage expressed across the land, Obasanjo had soldiered on through his battalion of political foot soldiers. But on the day the contentious bill was to be decided, the lawmakers voted their conscience and stood firm on the side of Nigerians against Obasanjo’s imperial life presidency ambition.

Is it not therefore ironic that a man unwilling to vacate Aso Rock at 70 (in 2007) is now moralizing against anyone above age 70 aspiring for the same office today? It’s always been known that Obasanjo suffers deep insecurities manifesting in his “Mr. Too Know” antics.

But never did anyone imagine that the chicken farmer would carry his accustomed charlatanism as far as arrogating medical expertise to himself himself as to now also be certifying who is fit or not for the rigor of office through nothing but the estimation of the eyes based on “my own personal experience”.

Obasanjo’s waste versus Buhari’s prudence.

While it can be said that prevailing anaemic circumstances of the world economy in 2015 were not quite favorable to the Buhari administration upon takeoff, we make bold to say that, contrary to doomsday scenario painted by Obasanjo, President Muhammadu Buhari has been more prudent in the management of the little the country has earned.

How ironic that Buhari that inherited a wrecked economy in 2015 from PDP under the influence of Obasanjo is now being blamed for the hardship suffered by Nigerians, hardship that truly resulted from systemic damage inflicted by PDP’s 16 years of sustained squandermania.

Discerning Nigerians surely know better. They can see and feel the relief brought about by Buhari’s rail revolution, massive investment in infrastructure like the second Niger Bridge and numerous roads built or reconstructed across the country.

However, despite that oil price averaged $100 per barrel for most of the Obasanjo years and 2 subsequent PDP administrations, Nigeria has very little or nothing to show for it, other than tales of bare-faced looting and waste for 16 years. Under Obasanjo’s watch, a senate panel found that national assets — indeed our common patrimony built from independence in 1960 — worth $100bn were auctioned to cronies and fronts at a ridiculous $1.3bn through a dubious privatization programme.

This constituted the root of the massive joblessness in the country. Also, House of Reps committee found that Obasanjo wasted $16bn on the so-called power projects. Rather than electricity, Nigerians experienced worst darkness.

According to his deputy then and incidentally the present PDP’s flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, “In some cases, some contractors were paid 100 percent of the contract sum’’ …without performance ! So pervasive was sleaze under Obasanjo that Atiku, while testifying before another senate committee in 2007, revealed that his boss was fond of “sending handwritten notes to PTDF (Petroleum Trust Development Fund) to release money to buy vehicles for his girlfriends”.

In one last act of moral, political and financial atrocity in 2007, Obasanjo literally commandeered captains of industry and PDP governors to Ota to raise over N7bn for the building of his personal library (memorably dubbed “Presidential Laundromat” by Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka).

For a man who enrolled in PDP in 1998 with only N20,000 reportedly in his bank account after a stint in prison, Obasanjo left power in 2007 stupendously wealthy with vast farm estates in many states and private university.

False claim of mentorship

Typically, megalomaniac Obasanjo lied that the leading presidential candidates who had visited him addressed him as “mentor” and that, according to him, their respective quest for the No 1 job in the land was to continue where he stopped his “good work”. We presume that included Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. It is another shameless lie by a meddlesome interloper in an orgy of self-adulation.

To start with, many will easily recall that the same Obasanjo had issued a statement shortly after the APC candidate paid him a courtesy call months back categorically stating that the visit was “non-political” in response to “misconception in a section of the media”. So, how come this contradiction now? In any case, keen watchers of political events will attest that Tinubu’s accustomed progressive leaning is antithetical to Obasanjo’s imperial messianism. It is an ideological contestation dating back to 1999.

All through Obasanjo’s eight-year imperial presidency, Tinubu’s fidelity to progressive ideology led him to challenge Obasanjo’s excesses through the instrumentality of the courts and constitutionalism. Indeed, through constant diligent litigations, Lagos under Tinubu was able to win over 13 landmark cases against the federal government at the Supreme Court that not only enriched constitutionalism but also extended the frontiers of federalism in Nigeria.

Tinubu’s opposition also manifested in his refusal to be deceived by Obasanjo’s antics in 2003 in the latter’s desperation to capture the South-west and end his personal shame as a President without political home-base. It is on record that Tinubu emerged the only Yoruba governor who survived Obasanjo’s onslaught against the entire South West. Ever so treacherous, Obasanjo betrayed the other five AD governors by rigging them out of office, with Tinubu becoming “the last man standing”.

His petty hatred for Asiwaju and lack of vision led him into scuttling the first-of-its-kind Independent Power Project (IPP) initiated by Lagos State in 1999. It also explained Obasanjo’s illegal withholding of councils fund belonging to Lagos for over two years following the creation of 37 additional council areas. Even after the Supreme Court ruling directed the release, Obasanjo continued his unconstitutional perfidy of withholding the state’s local government revenue, to punish Lagos. The funds were not released until President Umar Yar’Adua assumed power in 2007.

Indeed, the redrawing of Nigeria’s electioneering calendar is a testament of Obasanjo’s rigging inclination. Today, off-season governorship contests are organised by INEC in states like Edo, Osun, Ekiti, and Kogi due to the theft of popular mandate under Obasanjo’s watch, having declared the 2007 polls a “do or die” for his party. In Edo, Osun and Ekiti in particular, it is a well-known fact that Tinubu spear-headed the struggle to retrieve the stolen mandates through the court. So, how could Obasanjo therefore list Tinubu among his “mentees” who wish to continue where he “stopped”?

He mischievously twisted Tinubu’s ‘Emilokan’ statement before the APC presidential primaries out of context in a futile bid to de-market the APC candidate. The very poor understanding of that phrase by a supposed Yoruba (?) man will only fuel doubts already expressed in some informed quarters about Obasanjo’s roots.

Tinubu made his statement within the context of the internal dynamics of APC , and the fact that he later emerged as candidate by an overwhelming majority shows that his claims are infallible. Nobody worked as hard as Tinubu to win the support of delegates during the primaries and today he is second to none in aggressively seeking the support of voters across the country to achieve success in next month’s elections. Ironically, the only concrete reason Obasanjo offers for supporting Peter Obi is that it is “the turn” of the South-East! What a contradiction!!

Capacity to identify and nurture leaders

It is laughable that Obasanjo has the temerity to deem himself qualified to lecture Nigerians on who to elect as a leader. Throughout his political trajectory in public life, he has unfailingly demonstrated gross incompetence in this regard.

In 1979, his military regime was designed to produce the weakest leadership in a political terrain that had such proven leadership talents as Adamu Ciroma, Aminu Kano, Maitama Sule, Waziri Ibrahim, Nnamdi Azikwe or Obafemi Awolowo among others. In 2007, after his two-term tenure and the failure of his third term agenda, he influenced the emergence of two PDP successors who failed partly because of weak institutional foundation he had laid and partly because of their own limitations.

Obasanjo in a fit of mindless hypocrisy claims that strength and vitality are requirements for the presidency but was the same man who knew of the late good man Umaru Yar a dua’s terminal condition and still used the coercive agencies of state to impose him on Nigeria ! The late president Yar adua himself publicly acknowledged that the 2007 election under Obasanjo was extremely flawed .

This is in sharp contrast to Lagos State where the Tinubu administration designed a 25-year development Masterplan for the state and inspired a succession of competent leaders who not only sustained but also improved on the legacies of Tinubu’s administration, making Lagos the fastest growing in Nigeria and the 5th largest economy in Africa today.

In endorsing Obi, Obasanjo resorted to verbose and nebulous generalities without telling Nigerians in concrete terms what were his preferred candidate’s track record of performance as governor in Anambra state.

The shame of Anambra

Perhaps the most laughable of the megalomaniac stunts by Obasanjo was naming Peter Obi among his “mentees”. Older Nigerians and just anyone old enough to comprehend series of abominable occurrences on the political landscape around 2003 must have reacted to such claim with derisive laughter and guffaw.

It is perhaps a reflection of Obasanjo’s penchant to prey on the poor memory of the average Nigerian that he now seeks to dress Obi, his one-time victim, as a “mentee”. Given the well-known facts of history, many are left wondering if it was not the same Obi that Obasanjo’s thuggish enforcer, Chris Uba, robbed of Anambra governorship in 2003.

It took the refusal of Dr. Chris Ngige to surrender Anambra’s treasury to Obasanjo’s surrogates (Chris Uba and co) for Nigerians to know that the polls were rigged in favour of PDP in Anambra at the expense of APGA’s Peter Obi. While the dirty fight lasted between the electoral robbers in Anambra, the police were implicated in a botched attempt to kidnap the then sitting Anambra governor and force him to resign from office.

When that failed, hapless people of Anambra woke up one morning soon afterward to witness a reign of terror unleashed on Awka, the state capital, with Government House and other government structures either razed or vandalized by armed thugs. Fingers were pointed at Chris Uba, the self-styled “godfather of all godfathers”.

While the show of shame lasted, it came to light that the Uba was working for Obasanjo. When asked to clarify his relationship with Chris Ubah during a Presidential Chat transmitted live by NTA soon afterwards, Obasanjo shamelessly downplayed the infamy by describing him as an “enthusiastic party (PDP) supporter” in Anambra!

With this brazen attempt at revisionism by this political megalomaniac, discerning Nigerians are unlikely to miss the audacity of willful mendacity. This speaks to Obasanjo’s incorrigible penchant to always twist facts, manufacture lies to launder his dirty undergarment and project himself as Nigeria’s only messiah since independence.

But informed Nigerian voters surely can see through Obasanjo’s chicanery. That is why they will not heed his self-serving call. Rather, come February 25, they will go out in large numbers and vote Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the only one among the present parade of candidates with the requisite capacity, competence and character to leap Nigeria from a country of potentials to one of greatness.

Obasanjo’s selfish plot to impose a puppet and regain his lost maniacal grip on power shall fail , again…just as his perfidious and pernicious third term agenda !

SportsBrazilian Football Icon Pele Has Died At The Age Of 82 by Busy76(op): 8:08pm On Dec 29, 2022
Brazilian football star Pele has died at the age of 82, his agent has told the Associated Press. The former Santos FC star, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, had been at the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in Sao Paulo since 29 November.

A medical report just before Christmas showed that he needed care for cardiac and renal dysfunction, having been battling colon cancer since September 2021.

Pele – originally named Edson Arantes do Nascimento – began playing for Santos at the age of 15 and the Brazilian national team a year later, bursting onto the world football scene as a 17-year-old in the 1958 World Cup.

During his international career, he won three World Cups – in 1958, 1962 and 1970 – the only player to achieve this.

His role in Brazil’s third victory, in Mexico in 1970, has gone down in football folklore, as he played a key role in arguably the sport’s greatest ever international team.

His glittering 20-year career from 1957 to 1977 saw him score 757 goals in 831 games, although Santos claim his tally was closer to 1,000.
