The Nigerian Army has rescued a female Lieutenant, P. P. Johnson abducted and tortured by unknown gunmen terrorising the South-Eastern part of the country.

THISWEEKNG earlier reported that the gunmen stripped, beat and tortured Johnson for being part of the Nigerian Military. It was gathered that she was abducted in her hometown, Ihube, where She travelled to for the Christmas break.


“She was just conferred with the rank of Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army. She passed out on December 17 after being commissioned from the Direct Short Service Course,” a military source said.

“She was kidnapped at her home in Ibube. She travelled home for the Yuletide celebration.”

In a trending video online, one of the unknown gunmen was heard threatening to kill the officer for being a member of the Nigerian Army.


“This is a wonderful (sic) information for the whole of our people that are still in the military, that’s how all of you will be dying one after the other.

“Here it’s happening life in Enugu, today being 26th of December 2022, it’s happening live and direct, a Lieutenant, two star in military. We will fight against our enemies, for those of you that still remain in service, we will take you one after the other. This is unknown gunmen. What we are after is Biafra, we have nothing to do with IPOB. Say bye-bye to your fellow soldiers, say bye-bye to this life.”

The officer was stripped naked and her hands and legs were tied. She was seated on the ground in a bushy area.

However, a military signal has indicated that the lady has been rescued and the mastermind of the abduction has been captured.


“At about 1420hrs on 29 Dec 22, security forces rescued Lt PP Johnson who was abducted by gunmen and taken to a forest bordering Enugu State and Ihube in Okigwe LGA Imo State on 26 Dec 22,” the signal read.

“The master minder (sic) of the kidnap has also been arrested by security forces while efforts are ongoing to arrest the others. The situation is still being monitored at the moment..”

The Deputy Governor of Anambra, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, confronted soldiers on Saturday for making roadblocks on some major roads in the state and making it hard for drivers to get around.

Ibezim, who was in charge of traffic management across the entire state, said it was unacceptable for motorists to waste time and fuel stuck in traffic due to a military operation designed to create artificial bottlenecks.


He argued that the security forces could carry out their duties without imposing an unnecessary burden on the public.

Ibezim questioned whether or not the troops at the Stanel filling station and the Nnamdi Azikiwe University entrance would keep the discarded tyres and sandbags they had used to barricade the road at Amansea, close to the border with Enugu State on the one-lane motorway.

“We must be sane in this country,” he told the soldiers. “I came here in the morning to warn you about this, but you are still blocking the traffic.”


” I pulled out as a director in the Ministry of Defense; this is not what the Army stands for.

“Allow these people to move; you do not suffer taxpayers this way,” he remarked.

Ibezim urged drivers and pedestrians to work with the state’s traffic management organisations for a more efficient transportation system.

He thinks everyone should follow the rules and the public should have free access to the roadways.


“At Amawbia bye pass, I saw heavy traffic, but when I alighted to find out what was going on, it happened that youth stood in the middle of the road, waving party flag while the traffic stood still.

“I had to order him out to be attested; surprisingly, they said I was threatening to arrest an opposition party faithful, but we won’t succumb to such cheap blackmail; our roads must be free of all obstructions,” he stated.

A Nigerian national identified as Chinwuko Ugochukwu Augustine, has died after he was allegedly attacked by taxi drivers in South Africa.

It was gathered that some Nigerian nationals were attacked by taxi drivers in Benoni, a town in Ekurhuleni municipality, Gauteng province on December 9, 2022.


The victims were allegedly whipped with sjamboks and machetes in front of the police station, leaving them with serious injuries.

Chinwuko sustained multiple stab wounds during the attack and was rushed to Glenwood Hospital where he died on Wednesday, December 21.

Angered by the death, a group of Nigerians and other African nationals gathered outside the Benoni Police Station on Wednesday night to protest the killing.


Police were forced to use rubber bullets to disperse the crowd outside the station.

The group demanded that the police launch a manhunt for the victim’s killer.

Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Kweza, confirmed that they are investigating a case of murder.

“No one has been arrested as yet, but a docket has been opened pending investigation,” she said.


“We are calling on anyone with information that could help police on the whereabouts of the suspect.”

Meanwhile, the Consulate General of Nigeria in a statement on Wednesday, advised Nigerians in Benoni to take precautionary measures moving around the area.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have uncovered an underground drug bunk in the home of a suspected drug kingpin, Okrika Kingsley Ozioma, at Usiefurum town in Ughelli South LGA of Delta State.

The spokesperson of the anti-drug agency, Femi Babafemi, who disclosed this in a statement said the NDLEA operatives while acting on a tipoff stormed Ozioma three-bedroom bungalow building were the underground drug bunk was discovered.



Babafemi added that the suspect is now on the run. He mentioned that 17.6kgs of Cannabis Sativa was recovered from the bunk in addition to a 2003 Silver Golf car with registration number Lagos KJA 572 AZ used for the distribution of drugs within and outside Warri.

In a related development, NDLEA operatives in Lagos on Sunday 11th December intercepted a truck and a bus conveying 113 jumbo bags of cannabis Sativa weighing 4,802.84 kilograms around the VGC estate area of Ajah.

He mentioned that three suspects identified as Taofeek Yusuf; Ifeanyi Okorie and Israel Nwachukwu were arrested in connection with the seizures.


‘In Gombe state, a total of 1,154,500 pills of Tramadol, Rohypnol and Exol being transported from Onitsha, Anambra state to Gombe by a truck driver, Umar Hassan, 28, were seized on Thursday 15th Dec. at Bye pass area of Gombe by a team of NDLEA officers

following credible intelligence.

Also acting on intelligence, operatives in Edo state on Friday 16th Dec intercepted a Honda Ridgeline pick-up vehicle with Reg No BWR 699 CV loaded with 29 bags of Cannabis Sativa weighing 319kgs. The driver of the vehicle, Alfred Vratombo, 32, was arrested with fake police uniforms, which he was using to deceive security men on the road,” the statement in part read.

He mentioned that an attempt by a drug dealer, Chucks Kalu, 29, to smuggle into Kano 26kgs of cannabis concealed inside packs of blenders was thwarted by operatives who intercepted the consignment along Abuja-Kaduna express road and later arrested him in a follow-up operation in Kano, just as another suspect, Rabilu Sa’ad Abubakar,42, was also arrested in a follow up operation in Kano, following the seizure of his consignment 1,980 bottles of Cough syrup with codeine, concealed inside cartons, were seized along Abuja-Kaduna express road

A couple who were brutally murdered by kidnappers despite the payment of N7.5m ransom have been laid to rest in Anambra state.

Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, 36, and his wife, Mirian Chinwendu, 30, who got married in May 29, 2021, were returning home after attending a programme at the Holy Ghost Adoration, Uke, in the Idemili North LGA, when they were abducted.


They were buried in their hometown at Isiekwulu, Ukpo, in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State on Thursday, December 15, 2022.

It was gathered that the couple were with their four-month-old baby, whom the kidnappers abandoned in the car.


A source said family members initially paid the kidnappers the sum of N5m, but the hoodlums demanded an additional N2.5m, which took the family time to raise, as they sold part of their land to generate the money.

After collecting the complete ransom, the kidnappers reportedly switched off their phones.

About two months later, the community saw the corpses of the couple along the Uke-Nnobi Road. The bodies were said to be in chains.

A family member, Onele Cardinal, who earlier confirmed the incident, wrote;


“Goodnight Mirian Chinwe Muomaife. You left your about 10 month old baby to attend Ebube Muonso adoration at Uke with your husband. Both of you were adbucted on the way. Ransom was paid, patience and hope were high as we all prayerfully expected your release. But all we saw was your corpse and that of you husband. You were gruesomely murdered. I shivered to the marrows watching the video and since morning after I saw it, I have not been myself. We all who knew and had encounters with you while you were alive can attest that you didn’t deserve to end this way Chinwendu. Ezigbo nwanyi nwelu obi sari-sari ! Nigeria failed you !With a very heavy heart, I say rest in peace daughter.”

On Friday, December 16, 2022, he shared a video from the couple’s burial.

“The remains of Mirian Chinwe Muomaife and her husband Chukwuemeka who were kidnapped and killed recently were laid to rest yesterday at Ukpo in Dunukofia LGA of Anambra State. What a cruel world. It is still very hard for me to accept this reality.”

A shocking incident occurred in Olum community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, when a young man reportedly hacked his friend to death with a machete.

Reports from the area gave the name of the assailant as Emmanuel, while the victim is Akwande.


According to Patrick Osang, the eyewitness, three of them went to farm and after they had completed the portions allotted to them, they sat down to rest and take some refreshments.

“After the work, Emmanuel brought out his pawpaw and was eating, while Akwande was sucking oranges.

“I left the two of them and went to cut palm fruits. I did not hear any quarrel or exchange of words, but when I came back I saw Akwande lying
in a pool of blood with a deep cut on his neck.


“I asked Emmanuel what happened. He did not say anything, but attacked me with his matchet,” the third friend said.

He said both of them then engaged in a knife fight, but none of them sustained any cut owing to the “odeshi” on their bodies.

“We fought with our knives, but the knives could not penetrate our bodies because of the juju inside both of us.

“But I was able to over power him and dragged him to the village,” he said.


He said three of them are from Obudu and went to Boki to clear forests for farmers to earn daily pay.

“We are friends from Obudu and came to Boki to work for daily pay.

“We have been living peacefully until Saturday afternoon, when Emmanuel killed Akwande.”

Confessing to carrying out attacks in the area, Ejionye said;

“I was in Unubi camp, before I moved to Ezinifitte, before going to Agulezechukwu, where I stayed with other members. Then, later I now left the group and escaped, to stay on my own.”

The Nation reported that the suspect has long been on the wanted list of Joint Security Forces working in the State.


Also listing some of the attacks the suspects has allegedly carried out, one of those present at where he was paraded, said;

“He is a known kidnapper who has been responsible for the killing of security men, including vigilante.

The remains of Bamise Ayanwola, the 22-year-old lady who was found dead after boarding a bus belonging to the Bus Rapid Transport scheme, in February, were buried at the Atan cemetery in Lagos state on Friday, December 16.

Late Bamise filmed herself in a BRT bus in Lagos on Saturday, February 26, 2022, after getting suspicious of the driver's movement. She had taken a BRT bus with number 240257 from Chevron bus stop, Lekki, headed to Oshodi at about 7p.m. on her way home from work.

In the video, she asked that prayers be said for her because her mind was not at rest following the driver's suspicious activities. She explained that the driver didn't pick anyone else after picking her up.

She never made it home and that was the last her loved ones heard from her. Her dead body was later found by the roadside.

The driver of the bus, Andres Nice, is currently undergoing trial.

The woman crushed to death by a passenger train at the Chikakore axis of Kubwa, Abuja, has been identified as Selimota Idowu Suleiman, a staff of NTA Channel 5.

The deceased was on her way to the office when the incident happened at about 10am on Thursday, December 15, 2022.


Until her death, late Selimota was a Principal Accountant with the Finance Department.

An eye witness said that the incident occurred about five minutes to the Kubwa Train Station, while Selimota, who was driving in her private vehicle attempted to cross the rail line as the Abuja-Kaduna train was coming on high speed.

It was gathered that a passenger by, a young man, tried to help her reverse to no avail and by the time she decided to come down it was too late.


A video obtained shows the moment the train h#t the car and dragged it along the track.

Spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, DSP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement.

“FCT POLICE COMMAND IS AWARE OF THE UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT OF RAIL/ MOTOR FATAL ACCIDENT THAT HAPPENED AT CHIKAKORE AXIS IN THE KUBWA AREA COUNCIL OF THE FCT,” THE STATEMENT READ.

“UPON RECEIPT OF THE INFORMATION CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATORS ATTACHED TO THE BYAZIN DIVISIONAL POLICE HEADQUARTERS DRIFTED SWIFTLY TO THE SCENE, TOOK CHARGE OF THE SITUATION, WHERE THE VICTIM WAS CONFIRMED DEAD BY A MEDICAL PRACTITIONER ON THE GROUND.

“INVESTIGATION HAS COMMENCED BY THE RAILWAY DIVISION HAVING JURISDICTION OVER THE TRACK. FINDINGS AND SAFETY TIPS ALREADY EXISTING WILL BE REITERATED TO ENSURE A NON-REPEAT OF THE INCIDENT SHORTLY.”

A 1 old boy has died after falling into a bucket of water in Nnewi, Anambra state.

The child's parents reportedly left him in the care of his siblings when the tragedy occurred on Saturday, Dec. 3.

The siblings were busy playing when the child made his way to buckets of water arranged outside and fell into one.

Videos shared online show loved ones praying for the boy to come back to life. No one is seen performing CPR in the video.

Sadly, the boy died.

Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has terminated a road contract on the spot, after he paid a visit to the site, without the knowledge of the contractor.

Soludo who wasn't pleased with the pace of the work, ordered the contractor to vacate the site immediately.

However, he made the contractor to know that he has already told his commissioner for works to replace the him with another company

Men of Ogun state Police Command on Saturday, November 19, arrested one pastor and two others for abducting and killing a 39-year-old man identified as Adekunle Muyiwa and dismembering his body for ritual purposes.


A statement released by the command's spokesperson, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, gave the names of the suspects as Idowu Abel, Clement Adeniyi and Pastor Felix Ajadi. He said they were arrested following a report lodged at Owode Yewa divisional headquarters on the 15th of November 2022 by one Oluwaseyi Adekunle, the elder brother of the victim, who reported that his younger brother left home on 10th of November 2022 and hadn't returned home since then .
