I believe Yoruba and Hausa were there because of their spread amongst speakers beyond Nigerian borders. Ibo is not spoken across the borders.

No disrespect to the igbos. I love igbos. Truth be told, there aren't enough content to air. There is an igbo channel on startimes, and they barely have anything interesting to put on, and it is characterised by repititions. If dstv were to eventually open an Ndigbo channel, I am sure even igbos will get bored after a while.
Popular Igbo Nollywood actors have to forget all the pure English movies they act in. Promote their culture to the world. Most Indian actors speak good English, but they still stick to their language in movies, and theybare respected everywhere. Every week, at least 15 yoruba movies are released, Even though half of them are nonsense, it still gives room for options. Igbos should release as many as possible too.
I would be glad, if they can work on this, and produce plenty many Igbo movies. Maybe from there, I will learn enough Igbo to woo Chinweizu(my life long crush).

Let me guess, u are a yoruba giving igbos advise again, on wat is in their interest? It is in igbo interest to watch yoruba and hausa channel?

Who invented Nollywood? Who invented Nigeria movie culture? Do u know the level of demand for Nollywood to revert back to igbo film production as opposed to the English film they embark on for an all inclusive viewing? Please save your advice for your tribe, we did not ask for them.

Those days of classical igbo movies like Evil Passion

Wat does it take to give Ndiigbo their channel? Fear that they might out do hausa and yoruba and be more popular? Perhaps the recognition that Ndiigbo invented Nollywood and are great.

It is just jealousy and envy of Ndiigbo that is the only reason they try very hard to hold us down but we rise and rise again.

Africa Magic Yoruba and Africa Magic Hausa launched on Monday 1st March 2010 the 24-hour channels available today. Africa Magic Hausa and Africa Magic Yoruba are available on channels 117 and 118 respectively.

There is no doubt that the country Nigeria is a very important market for Multichoice. Being Africa’s largest population and home to Nollywood, it not only offers most of the movies on Africa Magic, but also offers a ready consumer market for the direct-to-home digital satellite TV service called DStv.

The two factors that must have brought about Africa Magic Igbo would be demand and competition.

The Demand for igbo channel has led to accusation of tribalism on DSTV.

Africa Magic Igbo channel underway

From what we are gathering, TV network, Africa Magic on DSTv and Gotv is set to launch an Igbo channel. The station had been criticised for having Hausa and Yoruba channels, without an Igbo channel. But they had always responded that there are not enough content yet to start an Igbo station. It seems they now have the content they want and they are set to launch it soon.

Though none of their staff is ready to let the cat out of the bag yet, an insider confirmed that they have finally moved to end the complaints of what some see as marginalisation of Ndigbo. They will be introducing a channel for Igbo language in a matter of weeks. An inside source said that they might be waiting for the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), which is holding today, to end before making the announcement.

African Magic entertainment bouquet now boasts of eight channels. While there are dedicated channels for Hausa and Yoruba films, there has been none for the Igbo, one of Nigeria’s three major ethnic groups.

The hide and seek games being played with the PVC is too much and unnecessary. Two in Lagos where caught red handed denying people their PVC and claiming they are not indigene.

How do we know they have actually given the right people the PVC? How do you know they have not selectively kept a particular group of people PVC.

Jega and his APC Inec official have played too many games. The PVC system is flawed and cannot be trusted.

According to the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Lagos state, Mr. Akin Orebiyi, 1.8 million Lagos state residents have not collected their Permanent Voters card. Mr Orebiyi said this while on a visit to the Lagos state governor at the Lagos house Ikeja, yesterday Friday February 27th.

"As at yesterday (Thursday), the total number of cards collected in Lagos to date is 3.693 million of 5.5 million cards that we collected so far from Abuja. At the moment, we are still expecting another 430,000 cards which should arrive by next week. But meanwhile, we still have in our custody 1.8 million cards yet to been collected by residents" he said.

Lagos: Fake customs officer dupes victims in auction sales

by Olaleye Aluko

Ibrahim, Raji and Thomas

The police in Lagos have arrested a fake Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Ramoni Raji, who along with two others allegedly duped their victims of not less than N5m in auction sales.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Raji, with the other suspects - Usman Ibrahim and Adekunle Thomas - was apprehended on Tuesday, February 17, in the Gowon Estate area of Lagos. They were arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Our correspondent gathered that while Raji disguised as a DSC, Thomas pretended to be Raji's driver, while Ibrahim was in charge of giving out bank account for victims to pay.

It was gathered that Raji told victims that he was in charge of auctioning vehicles and some goods in containers.

The police explained that the three usually took their victims to the Wharf, Apapa area to show them the goods and vehicles.

Our correspondent learnt that a victim, identified simply as Mrs. Uche, was duped of N1.8m when she opted to buy an auctioned Toyota Highlander and paid the sum into an account supplied by the suspects.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, 63-year-old Raji from Okene, Kogi State, confessed that he had used the customs uniform to dupe victims in Abuja, Lagos and Ilorin, Kwara State.

He said, "I am not a customs officer. I decided to buy the uniform to do business. I bought it from a tailor for N5, 000 with all the kits. The tailor did not know I was not a customs officer.

"I bought the DSC uniform and rank in 2013. The name on the uniform is Yakubu Lawal. I used the uniform to do fake auction sales. I went to Uche's shop on Unity Road, Ikeja, and convinced her to pay for the vehicle. She initially paid N800, 000 and then the balance subsequently.

"We also have buyers who had fallen into our trap in Ilorin and Abuja. We made N3.5m from a deal in Ilorin, Kwara State. We made N1.4m from another deal."

Raji, who lived with his family in the Ipaja area of Lagos, added that he became a fraudster afterhe lost his job with a flour mill.

Adekunle, 52, from Ido, Ekiti State, who feigned as the driver, told our correspondent that he was paid 10 per cent on every deal Raji brought to the gang.

He said, "It was last year that I met Raji. I drove him whenever he went to meet his clients. He usually gave me 10 per cent on every deal. We met at a beer parlour, and we became good friends. I did not know it will get us into trouble."

Ibrahim, 39-year-old from Kano State, also noted that he got about N250,000 from the deals he participated in.

"When we made the N1.4m, he paid me N140, 000. I also got N80,000 from another deal," he said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the arrest, adding that investigations were ongoing at the SARS into the matter.

He said, "The fake customs officer was arrested with full DSC rank in customs uniform. He and others have duped several citizens. Investigation continues at the SARS."

My parents knew I was a robber - Suspect

by Olaleye Aluko

A suspected member of an armed robbery gang, Mutiu Rasheed, who was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, has said his parents are aware that he is an armed robber.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Rasheed, along with two others - Ahmed Musiliu and Sodiq Dada - were nabbed by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad on February 5.

Our correspondent gathered that the three suspects were rounded up by the police in the Isheri Berger area - a boundary area between Lagos and Ogun states.

The police said the suspects, who had confessed to the crime, made use of four locally-made guns, two of which had reportedly been recovered.

Our correspondent learnt that Musiliu was first arrested by the police before he led detectives to apprehend the others.

The police added, however, that the gang had other members who were still at large.

During interrogation, the suspects were said to have confessed to have organised robberies during which many vehicles were stolen, including a Toyota Highlander, a Toyota Camry and a Toyota Sienna.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, 22-year-old Rasheed said his parents, who knew about his robbery operations, had warned him to return the guns in his possession, but he refused.

He said, "I stayed in Ketu with my parents where I worked in an aluminium company before joining the gang.

"My mother first knew about this when other gang members came to our house to report to her that I had fled with their guns to Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

"She then called me on the phone to return the guns, but I did not listen. I was using the guns to go on operations in the Ijebu Ode area.

"When we went out as a gang, we snatched vehicles which were usually Toyota products.

"We sold them, but the gang did not give me my correct share. Since the police arrested me, my parents have not come to check on me because they are aware of all my activities."

Also, Musiliu, 23, who had served a one-year jail term at the Ikoyi Prison, said he had been going out with robbery gangs for over six years.

He said, "In 2008, I was arrested for armed robbery. We were five members in that gang. I was sent to the Ikoyi Prison where I served one-year jail term. We had robbed in the Ikorodu, Oshodi, Ketu and Ijebu Ode areas.

"When I came out of prison, I joined another gang. The gang leader provided the guns. I was part of the gang that robbed a Toyota Camry vehicle in Ikorodu area. We sold the vehicle at a giveaway price and I was given N100, 000."

Dada, the third suspect, said he was formerly working as a commercial bus driver before he was lured to join the gang.

He added that he had also gone on several operations.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the arrest.

He added that investigations were ongoing into the matter.

He said, "They have made useful statements and investigations into their activities are ongoing."http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/my-parents-knew-i-was-a-robber-%E2%94%80-suspect/
Culture / Re: Why Do Igbos Especially The Anambrans Marry From Their Tribe? by Calculia: 6:45pm On Feb 22, 2015
J12:

The point is - there's no norm in igboland as regards ethnic preferences in choosing a spouse unlike it obtains in other places.
Various Igbos in the thread have given examples of their relatives who married from other tribes and nationalities, that gives credibility to my assertion that we're the least likely to marry someone of the same tribe when compared to the other two major tribes.

If you check the rates and statistics of Nigerians in inter-racial marriages, you'll find out that majority of them are Igbos.

More and more Igbos will continue to marry people of other tribes.
Majority of Igbos don't stay in the east, they only come rarely during festive seasons. This means many igbo children will continue to be born and bred outside the south east, which means the possibility of them (these children) getting married to a fellow Igbo is very slim. Also remember that Igbos are not too protective of their culture and traditions like the yoruba's and hausas.
You rarely see an igbo person born and bred outside igboland speaking Igbo or even wanting to identify with their being Igbo. I've seen many Igbo people say they can't or won't marry an Igbo person (mostly females) for reasons best known to them but you'll rarely see a yoruba/hausa person say he/she can't marry a yoruba/hausa.

Due to these trends peculiar to the igbos, (migration, cultural independence and education) many igbos won't end up marrying a fellow igbo in the nearest future. Igbo to Igbo marriages will reduce drastically.

Anybody who doesn't acknowledge this is lying to himself

Thank you sir for this comment. I think the OP is heartless.

They want to kill the igbo tribe off. Inter ethnic/racial-marriage is too high amongst the igbos compared to the other two major tribes. At this present rate igbos will be endangered species.

Yorubas are the most tribalistic groups in Nigeria. That is why their women will never suffice. Their eye go still remain in igbo, even if the igbo guy marries a chinese woman. That chinese becomes most interesting. It is a complex issue

Igbo bashing has become quite a common thing in Nigeria such that it has become normal to bash Igbo on every single thing, even on things that are meaningless.

You created this thread to ask why Igbo prefer to marry from their tribe. Are you really serious? This is a question you opened this thread for looking for 'answers'? Would you have opened this very thread in the first place had a Yoruba or Hausa guy been the one who preferred to marry from their tribe? Yes or No? Why would a Yoruba parent reject a non-yoruba suitor, and that will not be an issue. In fact, such action is justified. A Hausa parent will do the same and no dust will be raised about it. But when an Igbo parent does the same, then its a big deal. It is a serious issue that calls for serious attention and criticism, then you begin to get tags like ''Igbos are 'tribalistic'', 'they are 'selfish'', it is an 'Igbo problem' e.t.c. Minor issues that aren't issues when done by other tribes become a serious issue when Igbo is involved.

I look around me, majority Ibibios marry within the Ibibio tribe, majority Hausas marry within Hausa, Yoruba within Yoruba, why should the Igbo marrying within themselves even be a question in the first place? Despite the level of inter marriage between whites and blacks here in the US, majority whites marry within whites, chinese within chinese, blacks within blacks, and you're going to sit there and tell me that it is a problem when Igbos prefer to marry Igbos?? Like seriously??

I get your point about love being the most important factor between 2 people from different tribes and there are marriages between Igbo men and non-Igbo women however majority Igbos don't need to look outside for love when they can find it within themselves. The same love you mentioned as important, Igbo men get it from within the tribe. Why look outside? What about culture preservation and values? Why should Igbo preferring to marry from within even be an issue in the first place when other tribes are doing the same? Is the creation of this thread even justified in the first place?

Tomorrow you're going to open another thread asking 'Why do Igbo people speak Igbo?' Like seriously??

On point... couldn't have put it better myself... Igbo should not marry igbo, that is their plan. The same igbo they killed three million people in genocide war.

If igbos are stu.pid, then whilst yoruba marry yoruba, fulani marry fulani, let them allow people pick the best from them in the name of marriage and reduce their population.

This isn't peculiar to igbo. Other tribes do the same. Even religious groups too- I saw a pastor on tv the other day saying his church members have to marry within the church.

Word! In fact we need to encourage igbos to slow this whole inter-tribal and racial marriage rate down. It is the highest in the country. The thing they cause confusion. The bible does not support it.

The Igbos in my company have their own clique. You need to see how they constantly bash non-Igbos especially Yorubas. In any department with an Igbo executive, Yorubas are in trouble there! But Yoruba executives usually create level-playing field.

Dat is a lie, it is the other way round. Yorubas will only promote themselves above their igbo superior, that is if they dont first sack them. The pay they give their yoruba is different from that the igbo get.

In Nigeria today igbos remain the highest group of all the tribe in some sought of inter-tribal or inter-racial marriage. 1 in 5 igbos are likely to be married to a person outside their tribe. The Fulani and hausa are least likely followed by yorubas.
