Politics / INEC Extends PVC Collection In Plateau But Not Across Nigeria For Million PVC by Calculia: 9:43am On Mar 25, 2015
The Independent National Electoral Commission has extended the collection of the Permanent Voter Cards in Plateau State by three days or 72 hours.

Deputy Director, Voter Education and Publicity, Mr. Osaretin Imahiyereobo, told our correspondent in Jos on Monday that the action was to enable those who have not collected their PVCs to do so.

He said that the commission received more cards last week, a situation he said made it imperative to extend the collection in the state.

Imahiyereobo said that the commission was set to go for the election on Saturday, as all the card reader machines have been fully and completely charged and would be moved to all the local governments by Monday (yesterday).

According to him, the commission has trained technical ad hoc staff to man the machines while all the collation and returning officers were being trained at the University of Jos on what to do during and after the election.

The INEC spokesman said that nobody else can use the card reader machines, except those who have the password.

He said that adequate arrangements have been made for the starter of all INEC materials before they were deployed to use, adding that the electoral materials were being sorted out at the Jos branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria where all the sensitive materials were received.

Meanwhile, it was a chaotic situation when our correspondent visited the INEC office, along Zaria Road in Jos North. A sea of human heads were all gathered waiting and struggling to get their PVCs.

Politics / Ogun Still Expecting 153,185 Pvcs And 703,492 Voters Yet To Collect PVC In Oyo- by Calculia: 9:31am On Mar 25, 2015
Three days to the presidential and National Assembly election, a total of 153,185 Permanent Voter Cards for registered voters in Ogun State are still being expected on Tuesday.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission in the state, Chief Timothy Ibitoye, confirmed this in a telephone interview with our correspondent.

He said,”We are still expecting the balance of 153,185 PVCs for the state are yet to be collected from Abuja.

“Meanwhile, our head of Information Communication Technology is in Abuja and we are expecting him with the remaining PVCs today or tomorrow(Wednesday).

“You know, the chairman has said the collection of PVCs has been extended till Wednesday.

The total registered voters in the state are 1,795,794, while the total number received from Abuja so far is 1,642,607.

The total number distributed is 1,136,003, and the number that remained uncollected is 506,604.

The percentage recorded on the number of PVCs collected based on the number received is 69 per cent, while the percentage recorded on PVCs collected based on registered voters is 63.3 per cent.

The state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, had condemned the piecemeal nature in which PVCs were released to the state by INEC.

He also alleged that over 600,000 ‘strange’ PVCs, brought to the state by the commission, did not belong to the people of the state.

According to him, apart from that, only yesterday we received another 13,000 PVC’s from Abuja, and only those that were received from two weeks ago till date will be distributed.

Also addressing journalist shortly after the meeting on behalf of other security chiefs the state, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammad Katsina assured the members of the public that the atmosphere will be peaceful before, during and after the general elections.

With the morale of our men on ground we are certain that Oyo State will be a good reference point after the conduct of the election,” he said

Randy: Married Man Nabbed For Impregnating Girl, 13
MATTHEW DIKE
— Feb 23, 2015 | 2 Comments
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old married man who impregnated a 13-year- old girl in the metropolis.

The suspect, Lateef Gbolahan, was said to have been arrested by police detectives attached to Oke- Odo police station for impregnating the minor called Esther.

According to the police, the minor is two months pregnant.

Esther, whose parents are neighbours to Gbolahan told the police that he made love to her three times.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the minor told the police that Gbolahan had earlier threatened to kill her if she revealed the secret.

The minor explained that she was afraid to tell anybody until people began to notice the changes in her.

A police inspector attached to the station disclosed that the suspect said, “It was the work of the devil. He used to send the girl on errand.

He said the girl came into his apartment after an errand and told him to lock the door and urged him to do it with her. He said he slept with her only three times. Now the girl is two months pregnant. We have transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, here in Lagos.”

The mother of the girl, Mama Esther, said the police should leave the man if he promises to take care of her daughter.

The man’s wife was said to be very worried and ashamed that her husband could do such a thing.

The suspect’s wife and mother of one cried that “the devil crept into her home to disgrace them and has succeeded.”http://leadership.ng/news/413472/randy-married-man-nabbed-for-impregnating-girl-13

From what this person behind d mask of a fake account wrote I gathered the person barely knows me and just wants to destroy my image. It's a crazy world we live in but what makes us sane is our ability to withstand and shake off human instigated chaos ....so many people suffer bad images of such because they never stood up to cyber bullies in a fake account mask, I'm say no to this and putting up a descent fight to teach such people a lesson. Gen Buhari Insults The Sensibility Of Christians With APC Political Pastors
This is simply a case of Gen Buhari religious bigotry gone a step too far.

Call for imposition of Sharia all across the country, even in the mainly Christian south.

Earlier, the former military ruler of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has called for the introduction of 'total' Islamic law across the country. Buhari, who ruled Nigeria from a coup that displaced the democratically elected government of Shagari in December 1983 to his ouster in 1985, told a seminar in Kaduna, northern Nigeria, that the strict Islamic law code known as the Sharia should be introduced in full across Nigeria.

Notwithstanding, that Africa's most populous country has been shaken repeatedly in the past by religious unrest. In February 2000 between 2 000 and 3 000 people were killed by Christian-Muslim riots in Kaduna over the introduction of Sharia.

Northern Nigeria is mainly Muslim but southern Nigeria is mainly Christian and has led criticism of the introduction of Islamic law in a dozen northern states in the past 18 months by the then government of Olusegun Obasanjo.

Gen Buhari categorically stated that;"I will continue to show openly and inside me the total commitment to the Sharia movement that is sweeping all over Nigeria," Buhari said, "God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the Sharia in the country," Buhari said.

"Buhari calls for Sharia in all states, was defended by supporters as simply a call for the full implementation of Sharia in areas where Muslims predominated.

Buhari Politics of Religion an affront to the sensibility of Christians

The comments are the second by Buhari that have courted controversy after he called earlier this year for Muslims to vote at the next presidential elections only for someone who would defend their faith. This was criticised by the press as a call for voting along religious lines, as well as an attack on the current president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who is a Christian. Buhari made the latest comments at a seminar organised by the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria, a newly set up body attended by northern state governments and Islamic scholars.

Buhari categorically said; "It is a legal responsibility which God has given us, within the context of one Nigeria, to continue to uphold the practice of Sharia wholeheartedly ... and to educate non-Muslims that they have nothing to fear," he said.

"What remains for Muslims in Nigeria is for them to redouble their efforts, educate Muslims on the need to promote the full implementation of Sharia law," he went on. - AFP

Buhari recourse to political pastors at the eleventh hour an act of political desperation or ridicule of the Christian faith

In December 17, 2014 APC announces Pastor Yemi Osinbajo as Gen. Buhari's running mate. A Pastor at Olive Tree House of Prayer for All Nations, Banana Island, a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. APC not satisfied with this appointment then created a fake twitter @RCCGWorldwide account of RCCG to announce the endorsement of Pastor Yemi by the General Oversea of RCCG Pastor Adeboye.
This move prompted Pastor Adeboye through his verified Facebook page to disowned the Twitter handle and condemns yet another desperate scheme by the APC.

In the Facebook post, Pastor Adeboye said; “On behalf of The Governing Council of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, we would like to inform the public that RCCG is not affiliated nor represented by @rccgworldwide. The church’s official twitter page is @rccghq. The church cherishes the right of all citizens to participate in the democratic process to vote."

We have no doubts that the APC is a Party that attempts to use and parade Pastors as VP candidates to divide or mislead the innocent sheep and Nigerians with cherished Conservative or Liberal views and clear the known perception of Bigotry hanging over the head of its candidate and one time dictactor, General Buhari.

Other statements from the Church's AUTHENTIC twitter Handle Include:@rccghq: “RCCG is not affiliated nor represented by @rccgworldwide.
“The church’s official twitter page is @rccghq.”In no fewer than four other tweets, the church equally faulted the endorsement of Osinbajo by the creators of @rccgworldwide.One of the tweets by the Pastors reads: “RCCG has not celebrated anybody for any position in the forthcoming elections! The #OfficialRCCG handle is @rccghq. Do not be misled.” Another reads: “We are a mission and we do not meddle into politics #RCCG #OfficialRCCG @RCCGworldwide is wrong.”Another said: “#OfficialRCCG – @rccghq We do not denounce neither do we endorse candidacies for elections. We are not a political party.

APC Political Pastor Ejike Mbaka and the church drama

Mr. Mbaka, renowned for his blunt sermons, has a huge followership in the South East of Nigeria, where thousands of Catholics throng to his prayer ground for healing and miracles.

In gospel of Mark 12:17 Jesus Christ himself said; "Give back to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." and in John 2:16 Jesus Christ said "Get these things out of here. Stop turning my Father's house into a marketplace."

This very vital passage in the bible was not applicable to the Political Pastor Ejike Mbaka, who devoted his entire new years sermon to the condemnation of authority that he vocally endorsed only weeks back. Political Pastor Mbaka in his entire sermon ranted about material things and money with no mention of the thing of the spirit.

Ejike Mbaka stated: "When the Goodluck met Yar’Adua, the Yar’Adua had a bad luck and died. Before you know it, the Goodluck met our oil and the oil had a bad luck and poured away, before we knew it, the Goodluck met our naira, our naira had a bad luck."

Further Ejike Mbaka argued that:"The Christmas season that should be a good luck time became a bad luck time for our Nigerians, forgetting that very soon, from 3rd January, the children will go back to school and the parents are going to pay school fees. From where? Are they going to use their urine to pay? (Shout of NO from the congregation). Even if they are going to use their urine, you have to drink, but where is the good water? Are they going to use their stool to pay the school fees of their children? (Shout of NO from the congregation).
You have to eat well to defecate."

From this extract of the APC Political Pastor , it is clear he had entertained the fantasy of monetary reward following his earlier endorsement of GEJ, only to deliver the new year sermon in disappointment after it became clear that GEJ was a man of integrity and offers no bribe. The support GEJ enjoys from all well meaning Nigerians are free and not bought.

Politics / Boko Haram "Pushed Out In A Month" - Goodluck Jonathan BBC Interview by Calculia: 8:59am On Mar 20, 2015
Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has said he hopes that all territory seized by Islamist militant group Boko Haram will be retaken within a month.

"They are getting weaker and weaker by the day," he told the BBC.

But the president - who faces elections in a week - admitted the response to the insurgents' initial advance in north-east Nigeria had been too slow.

The army has claimed recent victories over Boko Haram in a conflict that has killed thousands since 2012.

Backed by neighbouring countries Chad, Niger and Cameroon, Nigeria's army has recaptured many towns and villages from the militants.

President Jonathan's government has been heavily criticised for its failure to end the insurgency.
The government has made similar claims in the past about defeating or driving back Boko Haram within a specific period - but these have not been borne out by events.

The president postponed February's election by six weeks, saying the armed forces needed more time to secure the country.

Abducted girls 'alive'

In an exclusive interview with the BBC's Will Ross in the capital Abuja, President Jonathan said: "I'm very hopeful that it will not take us more than a month to recover the old territories that hitherto have been in their [Boko Haram's] hands."

Earlier this week, the Nigerian army said the militants no longer controlled any urban centres in Yobe and Adamawa - two of the three worst-affected states in the north-east.

Recently, the military also pledged that Borno state, the birthplace of Boko Haram, would soon be freed.

However, President Jonathan admitted in the interview that the authorities had "under-estimated" the militants and had initially lacked the resources to fight them.

Analysis: Will Ross, BBC News, Abuja

President Jonathan may have faced huge criticism at home and abroad for his handling of the insecurity in the north-east but he seems unwilling to concede any mistakes have been made.

Mr Jonathan clearly inherited a military beset by corruption and one which for decades has demonstrated an extraordinary inability to build up a decent array of weaponry - hence the recent scramble for military hardware including helicopters and tanks as well as the involvement of troops from neighbouring countries.

His assessment of the Boko Haram crisis is perhaps a little closer to the mark than the euphoric PR statements that are sent out on behalf of Nigeria's military suggesting this is a won war.

Yes, some jihadists have been killed in battle, he told me, but many have fled - either over the borders or into Sambisa Forest and the Mandara Mountains, whilst some he says have melted back into towns.

They may no longer control much territory but the Boko Haram crisis grew too deep to disappear in a hurry.

Ashes and death in recaptured town

Mr Jonathan said that newly acquired military equipment, as well as co-operation with neighbouring countries, had helped push the jihadists out of towns and villages.

The president also said the authorities would continue the search for the 219 schoolgirls abducted from Chibok by Boko Haram last year.

The interview comes just days before Nigerians vote in presidential elections. Despite many analysts predicting the most fiercely contested poll since the end of military rule in 1999, Mr Jonathan said: "I'll surely win."

78-yr-old narrates ordeal in kidnappers’ den, as police arrest 7 suspects
News Thursday, March 12, 2015

By Ola Ajayi

IBADAN-Officers of Oyo State Police Command, yesterday, stormed a kidnappers' den and rescued a 78-year-old man, Chief Adebowale Omotoso, who is the National Life Vice President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry Mines and Agriculture, NACCIMA, in Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The septuagenarian was kidnapped a week ago, when the suspected kidnappers stormed his residence at Awe in Afijio Local Government and whisked him away in the presence of his friends.

Seven suspects were arrested in connection with the crime.

Those alleged to have kidnapped the old man include a 32-year-old woman, who identified herself as Bisi Babatunde; Oladipupo Abayomi, 23; Alabi Olufemi; Isiaka Kazeem, Ayobami Musa, 23; Ajayi Olaniyi, 40; and Shittu Olaide, 28.

Two suspects were said to have escaped with bullet wounds, among them the alleged mastermind of the crime, Lucky.

'My story'

The rescue operation, led by the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Muhammed Katsina, led to the discovery of the den, a disused mud house in the jungle, which had some shrines.

The victim, looking distressed, narrated his experience with the kidnappers, saying "I was having a chat with my friends at home in Awe around 7.30pm, Wednesday, March 4, when some people entered into my house and started demanding dollars.

"They pointed a gun at me and threatened to kill us all if we did not cooperate.

"I just returned from the US where I had gone for treatment. They took all they wanted and just when we thought it was all over, they asked me to come with them. I was blindfolded and bundled into a waiting car.

''I was taken to an abandoned village house and I stayed there for four days before I was transferred to this place.

''They told me that they were taking me to Edo State and because I was blindfolded on the way, I sincerely believed we were in Edo until this morning (Monday) when I was rescued by the police and they told me we were in Ibadan."

Female suspect confesses

To the amazement of people at the scene, one of the suspects, a woman who was thought to be a victim, opened up and narrated how she had been involved in criminal activities. She was later discovered to be the informant.

She said: "I have been involved in fraudulent activities by posing to be a herbalist in Port Harcourt. I bought a car from the proceeds.

"I was involved in kidnapping in Port Harcourt, but I was not fully involved in this one. We have offices in Port Harcourt, Lagos among others. After returning home to Awe, I went to a brother called Laide and asked him to do juju for me.

"He told me that he knew Baba (Omotoso) and that I should call Lucky to come and kidnap him because he had refused to settle his family for the death of his brother that died in Omotoso's swimming pool.

"I was given N750,000 from the operation. Lucky said N5.5 million was collected from the victim's family. Everything was at Awo (cult) level."

Rescue

Describing how the rescue was hatched, police boss, Katsina, said: "It was the result of a week operation, coming barely one week after my transfer here. It was a disturbing phenomenon.

"We launched operation Hell Wind on the night that the matter was reported with help from the newly constituted Ambush Squad.

"We succeeded in locating the hideout and engaged the kidnappers in a shootout that lasted from midnight till the early hours when they were overpowered."

He called on hospitals, traditional clinics in the state to be vigilant and report anyone with bullet wounds that might come to them for treatment.

Dear Bunmi,

I AM an undergraduate in one of the universities and I've recently done something really terrible. My mum was a single mother of two for years until she got married to a nice widower last year. The man has just completed his house, so we all moved in with him along with the three children from his first marriage. We had the house-warming party around Christmas and we all had too much to drink. In the night my step dad came over and we made love.

My head cleared in the morning and I've felt horribly guilty ever since. My step dad now carries on as if nothing happened but I feel really guilty and don't know what to do. I don't want mum to know what happened, yet she needs to be aware of the type of maniac she is married to. Please help.

Augusta,

By e-mail.

Dear Augusta,

This is definitely a tricky situation. Your mum will definitely be hurt if you tell her what has happened. In fact, she may be so bent on defending her new found happiness she might choose to trust her new husband and not you. Your best bet is to have a heart to heart chat with your step dad. Tell him how much you love your mum and how you've both betrayed her trust by sleeping together. Then let him realize you're willing to put the ugly incident behind you if he promises it won't happen again.

Sadly, what you've just experienced is not new though that doesn't make it right. If this man breaks his promise and tries again, then you'll have no option than to tell your mum or confide in a trusted member of the family who can effectively intervene.
