At least 34 people have been killed in an attack on a cattle market in north-eastern Nigeria, security officials have told the BBC.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-17936549 |
so you mean moving the capital will make bokoharam/Al Qaeda take the whole country. ![]() i personally do not think so. on the contrary, i think it will bring some calm.....and the govt can better re-strategise |
naptu2: Wrong diagnosis is quite dangerous. Indeed it can kill. Malaria and typhoid have similar symptoms. If you administer malaria treatment on someone who has typhoid, you might unknowingly be leading him to his death. You have some good points there bro. This morning i read that FORMER Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has warned the Nigerian Government to review its stance on the security situation in the country, but if it fails, “they will not be in government for too long”. Moreso, The man at the centre of the aborted negotiations with Boko Haram yesterday said the process was sabotaged by President Jonathan’s principal private secretary Hassan Tukur. These and many more make the bokoharam issues fall under your diagnosis . What do you think could be the panacea for this problem? |
BTW the thought of the FCT leaving the north would have quietened the sponsors and activities of bokoharam. what do you think naptu2? |
naptu2: Federal Capital Territory, AbujaWow! am so impressed with your sense of judgment and analysis. thank you. you've answered the questions that bothered me. no. 2 i was just rounding up secondary school then (1991) and never knew. really wished i knew. but now i know in a statement ![]() no. 5 is simply the best solution for this country. take a high 5 bro. |
dayokanu: OP Since you are not biased, Can we move the FCT to Maiduguri or Sokoto in the NE and NC respectively? dayokanu: If SS, SW and NC has had presidency then why not to NW Sokoto or NE Adamawa since you claim you are not biasedFor political and economic best reasons the NW or NE do not qualify for now, not to mention the security risks. perhaps it could be in some distant future ![]() |
@ ALL, I believe the capital can be temporarily relocated to any part of Nigeria to preserve the security and sanctity of government pending when the Islamic terrorists challenge can be effectively dealt with. During the Biafra war, the capital was relocated to Umuahia. Following Orkar's coup, IBB quickly relocated the capital to Abuja to escape from the security challenges in Lagos. With escalation in attacks by the terrorists the President should relocate the capital to avert a national disaster. He can even choose Ibadan, Abeokuta or Awka. The major consideration should be the security of the symbol of government. When things are back to normal, we move back to Abuja. With temporary relocation you need a place with functional govt-type of structures. |
naptu2: 1) Have you read section 298 of the constitution?1. not really...but i'll do so tonight. 2. am not running away...am just trying to solve it systematically, politically, tactically, ati bebe lo ![]() 3. it's the opposite my dear. will lead to more resourcefulness and accountability. |

Musiwa,,:Why? could you please tell me. |
CyberG: ^Hmmn...shows the base thinking of some people. A government with powers and resources to arrest, detain, try, gather intelligence, fight and kill terrorism, crime, kidnapping of < 1000 people and empower its 160M+ people, educate them, train them in every way and grow its economy, so that the < 1,000 people are totally isolated, captured, punished rehabilitated or killed REFUSED TO DO IT EFFECTIVELY. Rather, it will UPROOT his home base and run away like a coward to another place until the bad eggs arrive (only now much stronger) and then pull the base again until it is chased into the sea or relocates to a foreign country because IT WILL NOT DO THE RIGHT THING! Well, the suggestion is ONLY possible because the leader of the pack is a school child and mentally incompetent and totally inept. When Nigeria actually had (though imperfect) but STRONG leaders like Obasanjo, Buhari, Muritala, etc who know what it is to actually LEAD, this sort of ridiculousness would not even arise. You know that even when you want to be stupid, there are some people you should move far away from because they will summarily make you permanently unavailable BUT not this TOTALLY RETARDEEN.ED bottom SUCKER Goatathan Chimpluck!no base thinking here bro. just simple opinions. and i can go ahead and analyze the wrongs and ills of your so-called STRONG leaders. |
Callotti: Typical cowards.am so surprised. you speak like a child. instead of answering and giving your opinion with an open mind you resort to insults. you may not do well in a public debate if you go on with this attitude. |
ahh! i just came back from the field...now let me answer you one after the other |
Kobojunkie: Are you high, or something?I have been ever since i discovered that the unity in diversity we wanted wasn't really working out ![]() |
Kobojunkie: @Poster, why did you create this thread? What is the point of this?I want a modern future city in nigeria, and moving the capital from Abuja will create a seemingly new one in record time giving the way i view things. I do not care what part of the country it is located, provided, that part of the country gives us next to absolutely minimal security worries. The Bokoharam sect is making the current seat of power and the entire north a cause for serious security concerns. |
Do we need national assembly concurrence to temporarily relocate the seat of govt? I doubt. The govt can function from any part of the country. We are at war with terrorists and everything that is necessary should be done to avert terrorists over running our presidency. Even Ibadan can be the capital or Abeokuta. But Lagos will present worse security challenges than Abuja. |
Is there any law in Nigeria against moving the capital from Abuja to some more serene location on a temporary basis?? Somebody, help answer the question. |
alj harem: Calabar was the former capital or was it not ? Yes or No ?Yes bro. Please also read this and tell me what you comprehend. Am not a tribalist ![]() Calebsky: @ Calebsky: @ |
Oh GEJ!!! I wish he had balls. This would have been a perfect opportunity to temporarily relocate the Capital to a more peaceful and serene environment ready for industrialization and growth. |
@ Lheyhe: You are bias in posting this topic, why should the federal capital be moved to south south or south eastern zone? and why not Akure, Ijebu, Ado-ekiti, Oke-ogun or Oshogbo in the south west. NonsenseOk. now i get your drift. you must be a tribalist. Calabar (South South) had it, Lagos (South West) had it, Abuja (North Central) is having it with the attendant man-made problems or disaster, whatever. Now i think it will only be fair to push it down east and Enugu (South East) will be perfect. No bias huh! Mind you i'm not an igbo man. |
^ hey bro, wtf is wrong with you. I simply asked a question, made some suggestions, and waiting for some logical answers and opinions. Citing the Capital in any of the places will not be bad either. Albeit, i think Calabar had a shot much earlier before Lagos, and now it will seem fair to move up east or centred South South. Just my opinion. Just give reasons why you think it should be where and why? ![]() |
Is there any law in Nigeria against moving the capital from Abuja to Port Harcourt on a temporary basis?? If there are any Laws in support of these, I wouldn't know but there should be an alternative to relocate the Capital in the case of natural or man made disasters. At the moment, I think we have a man made disaster at hand. A good time to 'temporarily' relocate the seat of power. Lagos is super congested and difficult to manage security wise. PH, Enugu, Benin or Asaba will be perfect. Is there any law against it? |
free2ryhme: guy na o ti lago ooo and not lugoi just kept laughing. good old memories. i'll post when i remember any ![]() |
thanks MRbrownJAY |
any one with the answer please? |
how much does the winner or looser take home after the finals? |
Torres has simply paid £80 million pounds with an only goal to Chelsea. He was the game’s hero. Missing Terry and Ramires in the final. Up Chelsea fans in Nigeria, up Chelsea fans worldwide. Hope the champions league final ‘ll be Ex-Mourinho versus Mourinho! |

What contributions has Dr.Okonjo-Iweala made to reduce the grinding level of poverty in Nigeria that she wants to go and head the World Bank? All she did was to recommend that fuel price be increased, an action that single handedly contributed to an increase in the poverty rate in her country. For your information the world Bank is a premier Institution that formulates policies to fight poverty, not to increase it. I mean no offence. just some analysis... |
*Bukola Sittu, Abuja with reports from Reuters "The president was looking for a candidate who could command broad support across the world," Geithner told Reuters in an interview released on Saturday. "That's very important, because we don't make this decision alone." "Dr. Kim's mix of skills will be particularly compelling to the bank at this time and I think the world will be very impressed with him” These were the words of the Secretary of the United States Secretary, Timothy Geithner, giving insight into why President Barack Obama did not hesitate to back his choice, Jim Yong Kim last Friday for the World Bank’s topmost position. Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is bidding for the job as candidate of the African economies. But the support appears tilted in favour of Kim, an health expert, against the Nigerian and the former Columbia former Finance Minister, Jose Antonio Ocampo. Reuters reports on Sunday that it would be hard for the US to release its hold on the Bank reporting the US Treasury Secretary as adding “Geithner said it was not a surprise that candidates from other countries had been nominated after a 2009 agreement by leaders of the Group of 20 nations for an open and transparent process to select leaders of the two institutions. "We expected that to happen and think it is healthy for the institution as a whole," Geithner said. "But I can tell you from my conversations with developing and developed countries, I am confident he (Kim) will win broad support." U.S. officials have acknowledged that giving up the World Bank presidency would make it difficult for the White House to obtain funding from Congress for the global lender, especially with lawmakers worried about mounting budget deficits.” |
In a move today that signaled US discomfort with Nigeria's finance minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, President Barack Obama nominated Darthmouth College President Jim Yong Kim as a candidate for the presidency of the World Bank. Over the last week several African and South American countries, including Brazil had indicated their support for Mrs. Iweala to become the next president of the bank, however, President Obama's decision to nominate a different candidate represents almost certain doom for the Nigerian minister's candidacy. The US has traditionally exercised immense power over candidates for the presidency of the World Bank. Earlier today the Nigerian government as well as those of Angola and South Africa issued statement disclosing that they would meet to today to discuss their support for Mrs. Iweala for the World Bank presidency in Johanesburg. A human rights activist in Abuja said Obama's rejection of Iweala would be good riddance. He said he half-wished that Mrs. Iweala would depart the Nigerian government for the World Bank job. "She has failed to be an advocate for ordinary Nigerians and did little or nothing to push the Jonathan regime to cut governmental waste and to combat corruption." Courtesy SAHARA REPORTERS |
