Thousands of students who wrote the university-organised matriculation examinations, commonly called Post-UME, during university lecturers strike may have engaged in a futile exercise and may be forced to re-write the examination as lecturers complain they had no input in the exercise.

Speaking at a press conference called by the Ibadan Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Lagos State University, Ojo, the Zonal Coordinator, Adesola Nassir, said the leadership of the universities that have conducted the examination hurriedly did so because of the financial gains accruable from the candidates.

“It is an abnormality,” he said. “How can you hold such an important examination without the input of academic staff,” he asked.

“Vice-chancellors are employing non-academic staff and consultant to do Post-UME. They are doing it because of money. The exam already constitutes a crisis-point in the universities.”

Mr. Nassir said the “results from the examination may be jettisoned.”

After writing the government sanctioned Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), most individual universities in Nigeria require students to pass internally organised matriculation examinations called Post-UME.

In most cases, an average a student’s score from both examinations is considered before the student is granted admission. This arrangement started in 2005 over complaints about the falling standard of UTME by universities.

The Ibadan Zone of ASUU comprises University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Ibadan (UI), Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Lagos State University (LASU), University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB), and Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED).

Commission found that the applicant-parties have met all statutory requirements for the merger, and has accordingly granted their request.

As the 2015 gubernatorial gathers momentum in Rivers State, a cross section of the people have endorsed the demand by the Ogoni ethnic nationality to produce a successor to Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
This was the outcome of a live radio phone-in programme, which centered on agitation for governorship position by the Ogoni people.
The programme featured the President, Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) Psaro Pyagbara.
Over 90% of the callers supported the course that an Ogoni should be the next governor of the state, describing their demand as genuine and legitimate whereas other callers opted for the Kalabaris in the Rivers West Senatorial District that produced Governor Peter Odili in 1999.
The participants noted with dismay that the people had over the years faced high proportion of neglect, injustice, degradation, abandonment of their environment and economic well being, lamenting that the UNEP report that placed them as endangered species had not been implemented.

Callers particularly from Andoni, Opobo/Nkoro, Bonny, Oyigbo, Abua/Odual and neighboring Bayelsa State observed that the Ogonis would have lost confidence in the Rivers and Nigeria projects save for the effort of the incumbent Governor Amaechi.
They said it was high time other parts of the state gave Ogoni people the chance to produce a governor, pointing out that such opportunity would give them a sense of belonging in a state where they are one of the major ethnic groups.
The callers advised political parties to feature only Ogonis for the 2015 Rivers gubernatorial election, as was the case with Ikwerre in 2007.
MOSOP President, Psaro Pyagbara had during the programme said Ogonis were prepared to produce the next governor and called on other parts of the state to give them the needed support like they gave others in the past.
“It is our time to be considered for the governorship position; Rivers State is divided into three senatorial zones. Now, Rivers West has gotten it, Rivers East has gotten it, Now, is the turn of Rivers South-East. We are saying under this zonal arrangement, two zones have produced, why don’t you want the other zone to produce”? He queried.
Pyagbara stated that “the clamour for the creation of Bori State by the people of Rivers South-East Senatorial District will not stop the people of Ogoni ethnic nationality from demanding to produce the next governor of Rivers State”.
The MOSOP president stressed that “it is time for Ogoni people to produce a governor either of Rivers State or of Bori State”.
He urged the Ogonis and all Rivers citizens of goodwill, to be united in the demand for justice.

After travelling a long journey of 63 full days,Tanzania’s Nando has been disqualified from the Big Brother House.

After tonight’s Evictions that saw Annabel and Sulu being given the boot, Big Brother then gathered all of the Housemates in the living room.

Today Big Brother reproached Nando for the fight that he had with Elikem on Friday. The heated face-off with Elikem saw the two fellas exchanging fiery words between them. Nando is the one that instigated the fight. Instigation and provocation is a violation of the Big Brother rules.

For this fight Nando received his second Strike and Elikem was has served with his first Strike. Afterwards the Tanzanian was called into the Diary Room. He was given his third Strike for making threats against Elikem’s life, saying: “I feel like stabbing him. A nigga like that deserves to die”.

And he was also caught sleeping with scissors under his bed and this is not the first time that he has been caught with a weapon in the House. The troubled young fellow has had a dramatic nine weeks in The Chase. Last month he was served with a a Strike and a stern warning from Big Brother after he was found carrying a knife to the Channel O Party. Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Ibim Semenitari has revealed that the Minister of Education (state) Nyesom “Wike had boasted after the failed impeachment attempt at the Rivers State House of Assembly that he would set Rivers State ablaze and render it ungovernable.”

Anyway, the man who said he is fighting Governor Rotimi Amaechi because he insulted his "Jesus Christ" was on Monday night spotted in Aso Rock Presidential villa.

But what did Evans Bipi go there to do?
It seems the Presidency is looking for a means to give credibility to Hon Bipi as "fake" Speaker of the House of Assembly in Rivers State, just like they are doing with Gov Jonah Jang who lost an election.

From available records, at no time was Bipi elected Speaker by more than fore (4) members, even when he was giving his poorly delivered acceptance speech, there were just about 5 people present.

But Hon Bipi surfaced in Aso Rock, claiming that since he has not been 'impeached' he remains the Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly.

Bipi, who was in Aso Rock for a dinner hosted by President Goodluck Jonathan for delegates of a summit on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, claimed that his headship of the House of Assembly is sealed.

In his words:
“Of course, it is not contestable, I remain the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly because I have not been impeached.

“A motion for impeachment was placed on the Speaker and I emerged as the Speaker and I have not been impeached.

“How would it be five? We formed a quorum. It was a full house and I was duly elected; it was by over 23 lawmakers.”

Bipi also denied ever punching or assaulting any pro-Amaechi lawmaker during the fracas in the House.

news coming out of port harcourt says that pro jonathan rivers lawmakers have impeached the speaker of the rivers state house of assembly. Hon.Evans BP representing ogu gbolo constituency has been named the new speaker. In a chat with Hon Chinda Representing obio akpor constituency said the sitting held and all plans were concluded to remove the leadership of the house. Right now the leader of the house hon. Chidi lloyd is hospitalised with some members of the house. Ealier on The assembly complex broke into choas and staffs fled as members fought an blows were exchanged. A group is also taught to have attempted to collect the mace of the assembly while some staffs who fled claim gov. Ameachi himself stormed the house and took the mace.

In an attempt to put a lid on the situation. Leader of the house, chidi lyod has said via call to a reporter that their was no impeachment but there is heavy security at the complex, staffs have fled..
