Politics / Re: UN Report On Violent Conflicts In Nigeria Disappointing –presidency by callthefred: 7:33am On Sep 21, 2019
The same way APC criticised the UN report that we are the world's second largest importer or rice last year only to shut the border this year over rice smuggling after claiming to have enough better rice.

This government needs to sit down and work not make noise. I guess we have a lazy President after all not lazy youths as APC wants us to believe.

Politics / Xenophobia: Buhari Incompetent by callthefred: 6:01pm On Sep 03, 2019
As a concerned Nigerian who believes in the value of human life, I an forced to conclude that truly President Buhari is a failure on this and many other issues of international interest.

We all saw what happened when a young Hausa girl was arrested in Saudi over suspected drug trafficking, the government swung into action and for the very first time ever, Saudi took a step back which it has never done before, now we have Igbo's and Yoruba's a like facing death in South Africa and till now no strong response from the government.

Why I'm I even surprised? The same government who couldn't protect Nigerian farmers against marauding Fulani invaders would do nothing because those affected are not Northerners. We all saw the way Obasanjo handled OPC back then, shame all of those who brought this government on us. Going to Japan wasting task payer's money over a failed and useless trip and yet our citizens are being killed and nothing of note expect to send an envoy?.

This same Buhari sent a battalion of the Nigerian air force when a Fulani President of Gambia was denied his mandate. It's time to let our leaders know we deserve better. You may say we can't invade a foreign country but that's a big lie, America invaded Iraq, it invaded Pakistan to kill Osama Bill Laden.

Blame Ooni of Ife for this and his cronies. On assumption of office till date there are serious issues with the king getting a cut from those deals. I truly believe many of our Yoruba leaders are sell outs. We simply have no leaders in Yoruba land but dealers.

Useless post! You have no idea what 400 casualties are
they are yet to lose up to 400 people in South Sudan civil unrest
Infact during Modeke/Ife war,it took more than 1 year before 400 casualties
People killed during 2017 unrest are not more than 20,Infact 10 or 15 highest

You weren't there so don't judge me. I'm not an idiot to write what I wasn't so sure of. Truth is I was surprised government could downplay something of such magnitude. You may need to ask those really there. Another issue is the Hausa/Fulani's generally don't take human lives lost as serious as other tribes. I was in town and I have people at OAUTHC where corpses were taken.
Crime / April 2017 Ile Ife Hausa/fulani VS Yoruba Clash. 400 Lives Lost. by callthefred: 10:19am On Jul 17, 2019
April 2017 Ile Ife Hausa/Fulani VS Yoruba clash. A wake up call and terrible experience. 400 lives lost.

It is often said that those who refuse to learn from history are bound to repeat it. Even scholars and leaders alike agree that a stitch in time saves nine; a small problem can become greater is left unchecked.

April 2017 was a bloody day and a day to never wish for in Ile Ife following simple disagreement between two men over a woman.

For those who may wish to deny or forget this incident some of us in town that day will never forget in an hurry. It was a day an Hausa simply sexually assaulted his ex wife who is remarried to a Yoruba man who happens to be the leader of commercial transporters in town. Within an hour the mood over the city changed and within 24 hours the ancient city was soaked in blood.

Murder, robbery, extortion, raping and all. Over 400 Hausa's/Fulani's were murdered. The government of course had to deny it for fear of reprisals in the North and because these two ethnic groups have lived together for years it was settled in the interest on one Nigeria.

I fear the aftermath of such was simply because of so called excesses of the Hausa/Fulani's not even those in Ife but those whom they unfortunately share the same ethnicity with and whom have been known to harbour criminal elements.

President Buhari unfortunately isn't fazed as he's a known and unrepentant tribal bigot who sees Nigeria as a contest between the North and South.

For one, President Obasanjo detained the leaders of the Oodua People's Congress (OPC) for over a year in 2004 when they were learning towards becoming a violent group with the claim of wanting to protect him (Obasanjo himself) from fictional enemies who may be after his life from other ethnic groups. It is better if our leaders understand that Nigeria must always come first and nothing else. Not religion or tribe. Otherwise they may be leading us as a nation to a journey that may take generations to heal.

Decades after the civil war the country itself hasn't healed and to beat another drum of war would do us no good. I have always known that there's never a winner in a war. Both sides record fatalities and pains even though this may defer in proportion. The President is failing us because the bulk stops at his table and he must choose between being a Nigerian President or being a Fulani President.

I have met a lot of Fulani's and Hausa's alike and I can say these are some interesting people to do business with but like every other tribe there are bad elements, however the bad elements shouldn't be the standard to judge positive qualities of the good.

Let us call a spade a spade. I won't blame a carpenter for not providing security for his society as I won't blame a soldier for the job of a carpenter. It is simply the job and responsibility of a leader to provide solutions. Securing the nation and it's citizens is Buhari's job not mine and the earlier he understands this the better. Not stupid excuses of blaming and fault finding. Act now or leave!

God bless Nigeria.
God Bless Nigeria.
God Bless Nigeria.

This is disgusting scam. The same 30k that was used during campaigning which the govt knew it couldn't pay across board. Now less than 1% of work force will be paid. How many level 1 workers do we have in the nation if any at all?.

Buhari has no integrity and nothing to offer, it was obvious the government would bankrupt if they paid the new wage without increasing fuel prices but all for politics and selfish interest they led the nation on. These guys can't create wealth and they have no idea how to manage or even block wastages. All they care for is holding on to power, no ideas of providing solutions. Shameless clowns in power.

My understanding about marriage may be different from what you listed but you'll be lucky to find a girl who loves you more than you do her and in fact luckier when she doesn't have entitlement mentality like other Naija ladies. The fact is we are not meant to meet a perfect woman and even though tribes (states) could be a valid argument, like some Yoruba's don't trust Ijebu women etc.. My advice is that you pray over this. If since you've met her or anytime you make her happy favour follows, my brother forget class or levels o. Find a woman who will give you rest at home not a classy one you can't trust.

As for having a woman who will offer more than sex, at 19 she's still trainable. I myself happen to be the only one who isn't a graduate amongst my friends but I know far more than all of them. All I did was develop myself, mingle with people I can learn from and stat updated on happenings around the world. Today all my friends who are graduates come running to me seeking solutions to things as simple as simple pronunciation. Get her books, newspapers, researches and make sure she watches more than Zee world but more of news station...trust me she'll catch up fast.

As unfortunate as your last paragraph was sadly it is the bitter truth. I am a Yoruba man and I have always thought we had capacity to reason but that's just trash and noise making.

The so called Yoruba elders should have demanded for an MKO Abiola day not June 12 democracy. Buhari is just playing us and because we "hated' Jonathan it was okay to name a Stadia overgrown with weeds than a citadel of knowledge. This generation of Yoruba elders have failed us. I hope my generation doesn't fail the next.

GenSpecifics:
[s][/s]

You are spewing trash.

When the ACN took over the SW in 1999, they wasted no time renaming every edifice within their states to "honour" Abiola.

Abiola is the only individual in Nigeria to have the most public edifices renamed after him and we can thank the Yoruba ACN party for this.

And who told you that universities can not be named after an individual?

I know of OAU Ladotech and even a state university in Abeokuta that was renamed after Abiola in 1999.

Why then was it inappropriate that the University of Lagos was proposed to be renamed after Abiola?

This same UNILAG benefited immensely from same Abiola who not only donated cash to the school but has many buildings on campus built by him.

The truth is that the Yorubas opposed the renaming of UNILAG because it was being done by Goodluck.

Going by your argument then PMB also did the wrong thing because there's already a stadium in Ogun named after MKO. Personally I think it's a very stupid argument and even more stupid views on the part of those saying UNILAG was a regional thing (Kola Abiola being the most stupid). Are you all for real? Do you know how many governors that school as produced? How could UNILAG of all schools be a regional thing?

We need to start thinking right in this country and leave stupid politics and quit being partisan. Ahmadu Bello University is in the North, Obafemi Awolowo University in the West, Nnamdi Azikiwe University in the east, so does that make them less national figures.

I'm Yoruba and I believe MKO deserves better even though he had his faults and I don't share his views but he was a hero in is right. That Abuja stadium hasn't hosted any reasonable event in a decade say for party primaries. If you must also think well, June 12 should have been MKO Abiola day not democracy day. We have Martin Luther King day in America and recognized by the US government, not a black rights day. This is a Greek gift for political points by PMB. Not done in good faith.

How my country men rate a stadium over a university says a lot about us and hatred to see beyond our nose o.

Make it MKO Abiola day and we will know you're serious. We already have May 29th as Democaty day. God bless Nigeria.

Bolustical:
The calibre of people around GEJ never advised him well. Even if he was a dunce, his hordes of advisers ought to have told him it was a bad idea to rename UNILAG.

National figures are honoured with symbolic things such as currencies, popular national monuments, stadia, airports and not higher institutions from the person backyard.

Apart from naming universities after Zik, Ahmadu Bello and Awolowo, they were further dignified by putting their names on different denominations and naming airports after them respectively.

We already had Moshood Abiola Poly, why naming him after an institution again?

PMB did the right thing.

Sports / Why Champions League Final Was Boring by callthefred: 1:16am On Jun 03, 2019
The 2018/2019 edition of the UEFA Champions league as come and gone. Big congrats to Liverpool for being worthy champions even though Spurs were no pushovers, they defeated Dortmund with a deflated team (No Kane, No Alli etc).

However, the final was well anticipated to be a real battle and the build up was massive. However, a very terrible decision to award a questionably soft penalty 30 seconds into the game (fastest in champions league history) ruined the whole night for football lovers. Not to take away anything from Liverpool but I think the referee made a bad call considering even Tottenham had something close.

Big games like this demand big thinking officials. I had to post this because it seems many couldn't understand why the game didn't produce the masterclass performance expected. Even Liverpool players had to play extremely cautious, no risks, no flairs et all. The referee ruined this game.

Alas, it is what it is.
Politics / Re: Sagay Explodes Over Supreme Court Verdicts On Zamfara, Rivers, Tells APC Wha by callthefred: 8:39am On May 31, 2019
You surely do have a point but unfortunately no society can move forward without adherence to the rule of law. Do you know that Akerodolu won Abrahams in Ondo APC primary suit simply because latter's legal team filed their application by a single day late?. I've had experience wherein someone remained permanently banned from entering the U.S. because his visa lottery appeal was delayed by a day thanks to useless UPS courier service?

All these issues aren't new both in Nigeria and elsewhere, INEC had announced these dates a year before hand but these governors and party leaders believe they are much more power than the law. You just have to pay it. As painful as it is, the blame itself should be on the APC leadership who were obviously trying to impose candidates and thereby changing the rules and scheming their opponents. Mind you both in Rivers and Zamfara. The members of the party took their parties to court not even PDP members.
samstradam:
As usual Nigerians missing the crux of the arguement.

On my own part I am very happy that Yari and his violence loving followers have been dislodged but the question remains was natural justice meted out.

Is it just for someone who scored 20% of the vote to be foisted as elected because you want to show polticians? Is it only politicians that he will rule or a majority of the state that has been effectively disenfranchised and tricked by our flawed justice system?

The term "wasted votes" is so disgusting to come from learned judges who are suppose to be the last defenders and direct beneficiaries of this democracy- by this they have mocked the 2nd highest court in the land and put the onus on the electorate to become "justices" by discerning which court rulings to obey and which ones to reject. As at the day of the election and the constitution of Nigeria, the electorate were legally allowed to vote for APC and I dare anyone to dispute this.

This just goes down as another shameful ruling from the supreme court though probably less shameful the one one that made Amaechi governor for an election he never campaigned in.

The funny thing is that most people supporting this injustice are doing so on party lines but I wonder how they will feel when the new governor finally decamps back to his APC. Then they will understand the script and finally see the handwriting on the wall. Pathetic.

This is someone who has in past bashed disaporans open for criticising the President. If noise making and issue press statement is what makes "fellow Nairalanders" believes she deserves this, then I have to say our taste and understanding for round peg in round holes is worrisome. Travel / Re: 11 USA Ports Through Which Cars Ship To Nigeria by callthefred: 7:14pm On May 03, 2019
This has got to be the best post on NL this year. However, what if it is container shipping... Are these the ports and sea lines for such also?. I need to ship some machines with containers...

AUTOJOSH1:

Photo from marylandports.com

When buying your car from USA, one thing you should never overlook is the distance between the location of the car and the closest port of exit. This is very critical because it's a major determining factor of the total cost of landing your car to Nigeria especially for those on a budget. If you don't pre-determine the distance to the closest port before buying your car, you may end up paying up to additional N900,000 ($2,500) to transport your car within the United States in a bid to get it to the port. Then you'll pay another N306,000 ($850) as ocean freight from the US port to the Nigerian port. That's a total cost of N1,206,000 ($3,350) as against a total cost that can be as low as N360,000 ($1,000) if the car is purchased at a location very close to the port. Certainly, no one will be happy with such a deal. Don't make the mistake of buying a 2005 Toyota Corolla from Alaska thinking you will get it to Nigeria at a good price. The trucking and shipping cost alone will shake your bank account without mercy.

I decided to write about this because it's one of the most popular questions we receive from our Autojosh followers. Some were even forced to ask after they had made the mistake of buying their cars from a wrong location. One bought his car in Alaska while the other bought his in Hawaii. They were excited by the cheap prices they saw on online auctions but immediately realised it was a bad idea when they received the invoices from their shipping agents after the bids had been won. The person that bought from Hawaii got an outrageous bill of about $3,700 to get his 2006 Toyota Rav4 to Lagos. They eventually returned the cars to wherever they were bought as shipping to Nigeria wouldn't have made any economic sense. Note that auction companies usually charge a fees for such returns.

Today, we'll be looking at the location of 11 USA ports through which you can easily ship your cars to Nigeria as well as the Shipping lines that sail from those ports:

1. Baltimore, Maryland: Grimaldi and Sallaum Shipping Line

2. Boston, Massachusetts: Sallaum

3. Freeport, Texas: Sallaum

4. Galveston, Texas: Grimaldi.

5. Jacksonville, Florida: Grimaldi and Sallaum

6. Newark, New Jersey: Sallaum

7. New York (NYCT): Grimaldi

8. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Sallaum

9. Providence, Rhode Island: Grimaldi

10. Savannah, Georgia: Grimaldi

11. Wilmington, Delaware: Grimaldi

Most people prefer to ship their cars through Grimaldi as the cost of clearing cars that arrive on Sallaum can be more expensive especially in the case of more recent cars.

After you've determined the port through which your car will be shipped, the next step will be to calculate the shipping cost. Our next post will be about how to calculate the estimated cost of shipping your car from USA to Nigeria.

Is there any other port or shipping line you've shipped through recently? Tell us about it in the comment section if we don't have it on this list.

Don't forget to like, rate and share.

From my understanding the issue is of proof and not electoral law or otherwise. Aregbesola got his mandate in 2010 same as Mimiko in 2016 solely based on forensics. There was no room for forensics in the electoral law either but it proved their cases and exposed multiple voting, also hidden cameras exposed violence during the 2015 general elections.

If that was how Marcelo, Alexander Arnold and Jordi Alba sits tights who knows where their teams would be.
