Feexo: Graviton, the date of flight is August 9th.

Please somebody tell me where they are currently writing Toefl in Lagos.

Honeyad, I choose Isolo on my online form, but the VO did not circle anything on my paper, and I got an email not long ago asking me to come pick my passport at Isolo. Generally, the place you fill determines where you pick your passport unless you wanna change the location. Why not follow Graviton's advise?
Hey Feexo, guess What... I just find my flight mate... I am traveling August 9th 2.10pm on Qatar airways through doha, Manchester to New York. Guess that is your flight.

Ashigolo: I thank the Almighty God who made everything possible for me. I thank every member of this thread who have been there for me right from the early stage of the application process.

I slept in a friend's room (@doctoroma) at henry carr hostel, unilag postgraduate school, woke up at 3:15 and join a cab at unilag gate at exactly 4:25. I got to the embassy too early (4:45) and had to wait at the gate b4 it was finally opened at 5:15. At 6:00am, we were checked in, documents were checked and we finally landed in the consulate building where I got the number A003. My number flashed at counter 14, did the biometrics, primary documents were collected and I was asked to wait for my number to flash again. We waited for like 15 minutes b4 the VOs came around and the main interview started. Several applicants were interviewd b4 me, some accepted and some denied, I was so nervous but I kept my cool. Finally my number (A003) flashed at window 6 and I moved straight to the VO, a male in his early or late 40s I think. The interview lasted for like 1mins, this is how it went down

Me: Good morning sir, hw was your night
VO: fine thank you, how are you today
VO: you are Ashimi ...
me: yes sir
vo: I can see you are going for a master's degree in mathematics
me: yes sir
vo: do you write SAT (i quickly corrected him that its gre)
me: yes sir
vo: can i see your score card
me: i quickly gave him, he checked and returned
vo: what is your last degree and from which sch
me: mathematics from lagos state university (LASU)
vo: can i see your certificate
me: I gave it to him, he checked for some seconds and confirmd
the authenticity
vo: I can see you have an assitanship, in what form
me: its a teaching assistanship sir
vo: what will you do with your MS degree
me: I will come back to Nigeria to become a researcher and a college professor in computational mathematics.
vo: so who will pay for the rest
me: my dad
vo: what does he so
me: he is an aviation consultant for airlines and nigeria airforce
vo: your visa has been approved, pick it up at dhl V.I

it was simply God's favour, only gre and my BSc certificate were checked. No questions like why are u goin 2 US, hw many schs did u apply to, he didnt even ask me the name of the sch. I only made sure i maintaind eye contact with the VO all through th process I spoke confidently. All the same, it was God.

Thank you so much once again and to those that are yet to go for their interview, I wish u all success.

Sorry about the errors, I'm stucked in trafic along badagry express road, so I used my phone to type.
Cheers!
Congrats bro...

zeezahbee: Olodo, wrong site. Qatarairways.com and click on the full site. It will show you prices for each dates and you pick your choice
It is still the same site. Look at the link well... I only copied you the link to the current page where I was. Anyway, you may want to help me double check the prize for available flight on the 9th of August so we can be sure. Thanks Oluko! cheesy

zeezahbee: You have to book online first, it will give you a 6 alphanumeric code, then you can go to there office or go to access, stanbic or first bank to pay into qatar account, then immediately you pay, you call there customer care and they email you the E-receipt. Shikena. Lemme know what else you want to know
Thanks for the prompt response. However, I have been searching for Qatar flight from Lagos to New York between 9th and 10th August and so far, I have seen prizes in the range $1419 - $1599. This is way higher than $1000 that you quoted. Or am I checking a wrong Site? Isn't it https://booking.qatarairways.com/qribe-web/public/showBooking.action?widget=BF

zeezahbee: Qatar is cheap, I book 2weeks ago for $738 (121k) to JFK. Checking qatar for those traveling in august is now expensive, you should budget from $900-1000. Lemme know if you need more info.
Thanks for the info. I plan to book mine this Thursday (Otunla... lol). Do I need to go to their Office? If yes, where is their office? And is it Transit? Thanks for spoon feeding me with this information zeezahbee cheesy! Waiting...

Hello house, thanks for the continuing contribution to this thread. I will be glad if someone who bought his air-ticket recently can give a guide as to how to get a cheap and comfortable flight. Considering Qatar though... Kindly help breakdown the various options available and their advantages. In addition, I noticed that the prices change each time I make a search. Is that true or is just an optical illusion? Waiting...

drzik: Got My visa approved few minutes ago. Going to University of Minnesota for MS

Transcript shortly
Congrats Boss! Where was your interview? Mine was in Lagos this morning...
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by calmdown: 1:03pm On Jun 30, 2014
My VISA was approved at the US Consulate in Lagos this morning. The interview was very swift. I think it lasted for just a minute.

Me - Good morning (with a calm smile)
VO - Morning, How did you get to know about this School?
Me - I researched online and with the help of my mentor
VO - You researched Online? How do you me? What Website??
Me - I went to thegradcafedotcom after my Mentor had told me about the school.
VO - Which other school did you applied To?
Me - University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Stanford University.
VO - Wow! You have graduate assistantship?
Me - (I saw that as an opportunity to praise myself). Sure! In the Value of $34,448. It fully cover my tuition, insurance, fees, and part of my living expenses.
VO - Who is paying the Rest?
Me - My mentor and myself.
VO - Why is your Mentor sponsoring You?
Me - I had straight 'A's in all the courses he taught my class while I was a sophomore. Those courses seem much a had nut to crack for most of my peers. Since then, he has been nurturing me both academically and financially.
VO - I see... Are you married?
Me - Yes, with a Kid!
VO - I have approved your VISA.
Me - Thank You! I am grateful.

The only document he looked at was my GRE scorecard.

Please note: it's all because God allowed it ooo. The same guy that interviewed me denied the first three people he interviewed and like four just before me. He only approved 3 VISA before my turn. I was actually praying he should not be the one to interview me not knowing that God's plan for me is unshakable. I thank God for that! He was the first to open his Window. Overall, I thank God for His mercy.

Just woke up to urinate and still this issue. In my view, Mr Graviton is just trying to score point wink, while others are trying to be reasonable huh. My Graviton, I give my point to you, so let the issue slide. cheesy

Graviton v.2.0.:
Sorry, I will not take your word for it. I have seen a couple of PHd students without funding, saying it is 100% is as ridiculous as it gets.

What did you use as a criteria to make such assumptions?
I wasn't making any assumption. I am talking base on fact! PhD is more or less a work you leave your house to do everyday. Admission to PhD has also been called graduate recruitment. Any US school that will not fund your PhD program will not admit you in the first place. The students are more often referred to as PhD candidate. You might have mistook an MS Student for a PhD or you probably not talking about PhD in the US. One of the schools, where I had applied for a PhD rejected my application from waitlist simply because there was no fund available to take more applicants. I have more than 20 friends who are currently in their PhD programs and all of them have 100% funding. I rest my case.... Sleeping!

Graviton v.2.0.:
Stop posting incorrect information here. I have better things to do than argue, I aim to disprove this your fallacious assumption - 90% guaranteed? Laughable.

True, academic ability might be what is looked at as a criteria for judgement for admission and grants, but that is no way raises the possibility of getting funding up to 90%.

I have obviously done more research than you, I have read materials on this particular issue "Funding for Phd". Plus, I have Two Aunts in the US doing their Phd and I have an Uncle in canada doing his too, so I think I have more practical sources of information, unlike your reliance on wikipedia.
Mr Graviton... Juntod was actually wrong for saying funding is 90% guaranteed. It is 100% guaranteed in as much as you are admitted.

Graviton v.2.0.:
The bolded information is VERY wrong.
Mr Graviton, the information is very correct. In fact, better put, schools will not admit you for PhD if they won't be able to fund you. Lobatan!
