Jobs/Vacancies / Nigeria Immigration Service To Recruit 5000 Officers Yearly by Calyb(m): 9:10pm On Nov 26, 2015 |
The Nigeria Immigration Service requires about 5,000 personnel annually for the next five years to meet its manpower capacity, its comptroller- general, Martins Abeshi, has said. Mr. Abeshi said this Thursday in Abuja when the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, visited the NIS as part of his familiarisation tour of parastatals under his ministry. On the botched recruitment where some applicants lost their lives, the comptroller-general said the NIS was ready to conduct and absorb new officers as soon as it got directive from the Federal Government. He pledged to ensure professionalism in the service in line with international best practice and the federal government’s Change Agenda. Mr. Abeshi disclosed that the Nigeria Immigration Service generated N19. 4 billion between January and October 2015. According to him, N9, 788, 969,705 was generated from passports/ operations, while N9, 676, 474, 587 was generated from the Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Alien’s Card (CERPAC) within the period. He said apart from the passport processing offices in the country, the CERPAC production centres had been increased to cover all states of the federation and the Onne Free Trade Zone in Rivers. Mr. Abeshi said about $24.6 million was also generated from the service’s passports/visa operations abroad during the period under review. He said in spite of the revenue generated, the service was facing a lot of challenges which included poor funding, needed for capital projects. “Over the years, the NIS has been contending with poor funding, especially for capital projects for construction of border control plazas/ automation of control posts. “Lack of modern communication equipment and security gadgets such as sensors and alarm systems and surveillance cameras to cover the flanks through which irregular migration occurs, is also a major challenge,’’ he said. He said the expansive and unstructured nature of Nigeria’s border made border management a herculean task, but pledged the commitment of NIS officers to redouble their efforts in line with Federal Government’s change agenda. Earlier, Mr. Dambazau said the familiarisation tour was part of efforts by the federal government to reposition the NIS and other parastatals under the ministry in line with global best practice. Mr. Danbazau described the NIS as very strategic to internal security and warned on the need for officers and men to be more professional and diligent in the discharge of their duty. The minister also stressed the need for adequate border security in order to check the proliferation of small arms and light weapons and the prevention of people with ulterior motives entering the country. He assured of improved welfare and provision of modern facilities for officers and men of the service, while warning of sanctions for corrupt and indolent officers. Mr noblefarm, your earth pond and my earthpond are not in same area, or even not the same size, how do expect the price to be the same. There are many factors that deters pond construction. Although, I will still take your advise on the pricing when constructing the next one. Thanks |

Politics / PDP Would Have Won If I Wasn’t Removed, Says Tukur by Calyb(m): 10:43pm On Sep 11, 2015 |
A former National
Chairman of the
Peoples Democratic
Party, Alhaji Bamanga
Tukur, said on
Thursday that if he was
not forced out of office,
his party would have won the 2015 general elections.
Tukur, who spoke with journalists at his residence in Abuja
as one of the activities to mark his 80th birthday, said the
party was winning elections when he was in office.
The former PDP chairman was forced to resign from office
when he sanctioned some governors of the party.
Tukur, who was a former governor of the defunct Gongola
State, identified lack of internal democracy as the bane of
the former ruling party.
The defeat suffered by the PDP was unprecedented as the
then opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, won
the power at the centre and many states where the PDP had
hitherto remained unbeaten.
Tukur however said the situation would have been different
if he had not been booted out of office unceremoniously.
He said, “Well, when I was there I won elections and in the
same vein, if I was there I also expect to win the election.
“But first and foremost, this is a democracy and in every
democratic system, you have the opposition and the party in
government.
“So, it is time (for the opposition) because it is a democracy
and it is the people who decide who they want to vote for
and that is what the people have done.
“Sure the PDP will rediscover itself. I am sure about that; it is
their own party and they can find out what have gone wrong.
“If for 16 years people allowed you to rule them and in the
17th year they say no, you have to find out why they said
no.”
He said he faced problems in the party because some of
those he described as strong members of the party were
afraid of election and would rather prefer selection.
He said such powerful men were ready to leave the party,
but he decided to leave for them.
Tukur added, “Well, I thought we were in a system of
democracy and my views were such that what I believed in
were what I will preach.
“I wanted election and people said they wanted selection. If
the majority or the strong people in the PDP did not believe
in it then the choice or the next thing for me to do was to
leave.
“It is either I leave or they leave but I did not want them to
leave, so, I decided to leave. At that time, people said I was
preaching internal democracy instead of imposition. So, it
was difficult for me to sit down and be part of them.”
Despite the way he was treated in his party, Tukur said he
would not defect to the APC, saying that it would be difficult
for him to change his principle at 80.
He said, “At 80, what do you want somebody to do? You
want to change somebody’s character at 80? Is it possible?
“At 80, you remain because you cannot bend. You are
unbendable anymore and if you do it by force, you will
break.” http://www.punchng.com/news/pdp-would-have-won-if-i-wasnt-removed-says-tukur/ |

If nothing is done to the families of those who died and those injured and admiTted, nemesis will continue to eat up with NIS. And mostly the head will. Suffer it. The blood of the unemployed who died as a result of the stampede will not rest until justice is done to the berieved. 1 Like |

My country men, the present government are preaching diversification of our economy from oil to agriculture, so I decided to kick start mine before the FG starts it in full. I am about to construct an earthen pond that will contain at most 5000 catfish from fingerling stage to adult stage. What will be the most appropriate size of the pond in feets will be best I am suggesting 40ftx30ftx4ft to be adequate. Please, nairalanders, help me out in this project. I am only good in concrete pond construction. Thanks in anticipation. Caly-b Fish Consult Calybreserve@gmail.com 070679600823 Abuja. Nigeria. 1 Like
