tony2more: please fellow nairalands i made payment for credentials evaluate today through WES but i didnt receive any confirmation email/message that they have receive the payment just said on their site ''approved'' please i dont know what that means and check my account in their website nothing of confirmation is there also please can somebody help me out.

WES credential evaluation typically takes 7days, you can call them or send them an email if yours is taking much longer.
While waiting for the WES outcome, you can prepare and book to write the IELTS exam (that is also a requirement). When you have all those resolved, you can get all the supporting documents as listed in the Document Checklist, packakge your application and submit to the central intake office in Canada (NOT your serving visa office, i.e. NOT GHANA).

I don't think so oh! I think it is needed oh, or can you shed more light, I got on when I applied online oh, and I don't agree that online require less documents. I think he should include everything you can include so long you can resize your documents to 4mb, I applied in a hurry the first time and I got a refusal in 3 weeks and I repackaged my applications again including other documents I dint submit the first time got my TRV in 6 weeks. Better to be safe!

I'll like to clarify a few things about the online/offline application options. Please note that the requirements are exactly the same irrespective of whether you apply online or submit your application through the VFS. The real advantage in applying online is the faster response because all online applications are placed in a virtual pool wherein any visa officer from any of the qualifying Canadian (Deputy) High Commissions world-wide can take pick up a pending application and attend to it. Hence, the response time for your application is not based on the queue at the local Commission (in this case, Anifowose office).

The online application too might have it's downside as some of those visa officers are not familiar with some peculiarities to certain societal norms, and I've seen that work against an application before.

That being said, my recommendation would be:

1. If you are submitting an 'ideal' application, you can go for the online option and be sure to provide all the required documents when submitting your application.
2. If your application is less than 'ideal', your better option might still be through the local office.

toucheli: Please I need some help from you all, I intend applying for a canadian student visa to resume by May(Undergraduate), I'm been sponsored and supported by my dad financially. But he left me to do everything my self, I'm pretty young and I'm not familiar with the whole process.
I've been able to get the following documents:
-Secondary school certificate/Results
-Transcript
-International Passport
-Letter of acceptance (Paid the tuition already)
-Police Report
-Attestation of birth from NPC.
Hence, I'm a lot confused about the financial and funding documents I am to provide, my sponsor is willing to provide them but he also doesn't know anything about them. Please I need your help, God bless you all.

You've taken a good step in a seemingly right-direction to seek for help, so I think you'll be fine eventually, you just need to be able to filter factual information when digging through the tonnes of information available out there. My recommendation for you though would be to read the guide provided on the CIC website for International student application to study in Canada (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5269ETOC.asp); subsequently, you can read through some of post as advised by @HZWriter to relate some narrations of real-life experiences with what the rules/guide says. Then ask as many questions as you can - don't ever be shy to ask about what you don't know or are not sure about.

Make una ma answer my own question biko!

You'll definitely need to provide your transcript at some point during the admission process since you've indicated that you've already completed a degree before. You'll definitely need results of your WAEC too (or scratch card info for result verification).

I know of a student that just resumed at Brandon for the Nursing program this January 6th. You can PM me, I'll see if I can designate someone to follow up on your behalf provided you are willing to grant permission for that.

Graduate degree programs (MSc, PhD) in most Canadian universities are government funded, hence competition is very stiff. For a PhD program, the requirements often vary based on the school of choice and the program of choice. However, there is often a set of basic requirements many of which were mentioned in @surveyor1's post. Considering your circumstance, if your MSc. program is with research (a few universities such as OAU does that in Nigeria), then you might stand a chance if you are lucky to find a Professor (advisor) that have interest in your area of expertise and your technical/scientific writing skills are very outstanding. If your MSc is not with research, you might have to redo an MSc to get into any PhD program in Canada.

Overall, I wish you the very best in your pursuit.

lexmikey: Avoid the US?please any particular reason?

You'll most likely not be able to get to Canada if you route your flight through US and you don't have a US visa. Although, even the airline agents at the counter would confirm that you have a US visa before checking you in to fly en route the US. KLM, Airfrance and other European airlines used to require a transit visa for passengers connecting flight through their country but this was abolished a while ago - that's why you can now connect to flights through most European countries without needing a visa.

Uwem Jimmy: I was instructed to pay one year tuition and accommodation fees. But I have a cousin am to stay with whose landlord has promised to issue a deed of agreement in my name for the one year. My question is: will CDHC honor this agreement along with my tuition fee receipt as evidence that I've paid the required fees?
Please advice!!

The lease agreement is good, but to be on the safe side, if the lease agreement would be in your name, you might as well pay a security deposit (usually half the monthly rent, depending on your province) and get the receipt as proof that you've made a commitment. Because, typically in Canada, you don't get a lease agreement until you've shown an initial commitment by some form of payment. What the CDHC would commonly need from you as proof of boarding (accommodation) is a genuine receipt of some form of payment showing your commitment to a form of accommodation arrangement.

I wish you the very best.

greatfa4: Good day great men in the hux
I am so delight to meet this forum now.
I have few question,

1. Does any university in canada, accept 2.84(lower credit) for post graduate?
2. What is the cheapest, I have try to search, find memoria, but others opinion will be welcome?
3. Is it possible to work and study also to assist my fees because I may not get the complete fees?

Plz ur advise will be strongly appreciated. Congratulation to those who have made it.

I will respond to your concerns/questions in the order that you raised them.

1. As I mentioned a one of my previous post, most post-graduate degrees (Masters and PhD) in Canadian universities are partly funded by the Government, so merit is a huge part of the requirement for qualification and the competition is very tough because people apply in large numbers from countries like China and India with very high CGPA. For most post-graduate degrees, the minimum is an equivalent of a 2:1. A typical work around is to apply for a post-graduate diploma that relates with your academic background or work experience.
2. Memorial university is affordable, but there are many other options with less tuition fee - if you tell your area of study, I might be able to give some recommendations.
3. You can study and work in Canada, but please get this very clearly. For most study permit authorization, you are allowed to pick up a job within your primary institute of study without requiring an additional work permit, but those on-campus jobs are not readily available. You can also work outside your primary institution of study typically after a period of 6 months of full-time study you'll typically be required to fulfill some basic requirements in your academic program before you can be granted an off-campus work permit. Please, please and please, if you are fortunate to make it in as an international student, don't work outside your primary institute oif study without the right permit.

All the best.

Someone please help

In a literal context, it might be really difficult to get a study permit for an ordinary diploma after you've obtained a Masters degree because it just doesn't make a logical sense with reality. Besides, you're intending to take the diploma in a field that is completeley different from your previous area of experience/expertise. That being said, if you can create a logical relation of your past (possibly related work experience that could have motivated you to want to change your area of proficiency), a miracle can still happen. Also, these days, I am not too sure if the stringency in the application process at The Canadian Deputy High Commission in Lagos has not been compromised - so anything can still happen.

If your original intention is to immigrate and not necessarily for study, there might be other legitimate route that can still accommodate your circumstance - but I can only make suggestions after knowing some more details about your circumstance. I wish you very best.

I intend pursuing my masters program in engineering in Canada. But I'm skeptical about the job prospects one has upon completion of the degree. I once chatted with a Chinese guy online. This guy came over from China to get a masters degree in engineering in Canada. After finishing his course, he told me he spent about 6 months before he got his current job. He added that engineering companies are quite few ( mostly oil companies) in Canada unlike the US. A lot of engineering graduates leave Canada and migrate to the US to source for jobs because of the few opportunities inherent in Canny. Can engineering graduates living and working in canada comment on this so we can have a foresight of what'shappening over there?

I know of close associates/friends here in Canada who had engineering background in Nigeria but worked most of their lives in the Banking industry while in Nigeria; but when they immigrated to Canada, they undergo the transition process of fulfilling the requirement to practice as an Engineer in Canada and got engineering jobs afterwards. There are engineering jobs in Canada, it depends mostly on where you are looking - many are looking only at the oil companies and forget other areas. Also, please note that having a Masters does not qualify you to practice as an engineer - you'll have to go through the accreditation process to get certified as an engineer.

OchukoII: Abeg what are the requirements at point of entry?

Also who dey Vancouver or who dey go vancouver? I dey find house.

Unlike the UK where the final decision to admit you into the country is decided by the officer at the port of entry, the Canadian Border officers would typically just verify that you're not inadmissible into Canada or you don't have ulterior motives. So, generally for Canadian port of entry:

1. Know your information correctly. Although the border officer has access to all your information (which school you'll be attending, which program will you be undertaking, how long your program will take, etc), they will ask you most of those information once again.
2. Have your letter of Study Permit authorization handy (don't put it in your checked-in luggage)
3. Don't through away your en-route boarding passes

Overall, there isn't much to worry about with Canadian border officers, just be be yourself and get your facts right and handy.

All the best.

thanks very much

Typically, no special process will be followed provided your sponsor can present his/her statement of account with adequate funds and the sworn affidavit of support. Even for countries like UK or other western world, it will be a lot easier to verify documents provided by your sponsor. It's also important that the sworn affidavit of support follow the required format and state clearly and correctly the kind of relationship or tie you have with your sponsor.

Most master's program in Canada are partly funded by the Government, so selection are mostly based on merit and competition is usually tough too because more and more people are applying from other countries too with veru high CGPA; if you meet the requirement and can package a good application (research statement/statement of intent) you might be chosen.

Whatever is being recommended to you, be sure to do your own personal research on possible job opportunities when making a choice of course and school to attend - a simple online research would help. From experience, I know your past job experience is a stronger factor in getting a job with a Masters degree than your Masters degree certificate.

Also, it's important to know what are your chances of integrating into Canada as a permanent resident (if you want to) when making your choices - that is a very important thing to consider/know too if going the student route.

Thanks for your response I appreciate. But how long is the study permit for? The exact duration of your program plus 3months extra abi?

Make sure to be consistent with the period you stated that your program will take when you are being asked by the boarder officer - the officer typically knows the duration as stated in your applications already, but he/she will still ask you at port of entry. You'll rarely be granted a period more than the expected/stated period of your program, but you can be granted a less time as well - either way, it won't be less than a year because you often don't need a study permit for any program that runs for six months or less. Have in mind that you can easily extend your study permit provided you do so before the expiry date on it and you comply with your primary obligation of attending a school in Canada as originally intended. You can PM me if you need further advice on this. Bottom line is: the period you are initially granted is not really an issue, you just need to be aware of when and how to renew it if there is need for it.

FISLAG: Please house very URGENT! How long is a TRV valid for? The exact duration of your program or a few months are added? Pls reply

As a student, the TRV is usually for a short period ranging from 3 months to 1 or 2 years (in very rare occasions). What is important is that you get to a Canadian Port of entry before the expiry date and be sure to have the letter you have to present to the Border officer that should issue your Study Permit when you enter Canada. You only need the TRV to re-enter Canada, your Study permit is what you'll need to maintain a valid status in Canada as an International student.

Did you pay your tuition yet?

The visa officers are aware, even though it is difficult to prove, that most often, the person indicating that he/she will sponsor you will not actually do that in the real sense of it if he/she is not your parent or sibling. So they typically need more than just showing a few millions in an account as sufficient proof of funding. Also, the inflow/outflow transactions on the accounts are as important as the balance, if not more.

wild child: i would love to ask when is the best time to apply for a graduate program in Canada...Its for my cousin,he is presently in 400l now and would be graduating by April cos they already finished 1st semester before the ASUU strike...would he still be able to apply for a graduate program that would start in say Aug,Sept or Oct because his certficicate and transcript wont be ready until June/July.

For most Canadian graduate programs, the applicant is often required to complete the first degree before initiating a graduate application. The common exception is if you're planning to enroll in a graduate program at the same university where you finished your undergraduate progam - which is not the case for your cousin. So, your possible best-bet is to do all the necessary findings/research and identify which school programs to apply to, write up the research intent/statement of intent while waiting to finish.

Although, the admission date is not much of a concern as with the visa processing time - that's usually where the bottle-neck is for International students coming from Nigeria.

Ebonylord: hello everyone, i am new here, i applied for study permit in September for winter and have been called for medicals, however i am SS{sickle cell gene}, i am about to do my medicals, will my case be different? will i be refused a visa based on the fact that am SS? will there be delays? does any one know any SS patient already in canada or who have done their medicals? please i need your contributions and answers both from those already in canada and those who have applied for study permits or know people who have been issued/denied visas based on being SS or the procedures or things that were required from them during their medicals. Thanks all...

Please note that the Doctor you meet for the examination has no say in the decision about your visa. The Dr. only perform pre-defined examination on you as directed by the Health unit of CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) and forwards the result to Ottawa.

The medical examination does involve a blood work and that should reveal your SS situation. Typically, the Canadian Government will raise concern on any health conditions of an applicant that can strain Canada's public health system. If such concern is raised, how you intend to handle any possible crises in terms of non-public available resources and support and/or preventive measures might influence the decision about your application.
