CultureRe: Ibo Traditional Wedding by cantell(m): 8:42am On Jan 14, 2010
idiopathic:
o9999,
Thanks for your comments and suggestions.
My fianceeée is from Nnewi South. Is N1000=00 naira really enough to enclose in envelopes considering the cost of things in Nigeria? I really don’t want to be embarrassed by my prospective inlaws.

I still have to buy 51 bottles of wine, 14 pieces of clothing. (cost yet to be determined)
I have not been given details of the bride price (dowry) as yet?

From my own conConservativetmate, i presume the traditional wedding alone will cost close to N1 million naira. By the time i add the registry and church wedding expenses, it may be appapproaching 2 (two) million naira
.

This was the point i was trying to make to Romeo and Dede before they become abusive. Is this type of expenditure still warranted in the present day Nigeria. There are young boys and girls in my village in need of sponsorship for their education. I have relations who are widowed with no form of support.

I will feel uncomfortable supporting a tradition that puts our brothers undue pressure, some waiting till their late 30's and 40's before tying the knot.

It is not a case of whether i can afford it, i simply have a principled objection to these type of retrogressive traditions. Those of us who have been opportuned to be educated and travelled out are in a better position to fight these elders who use tradition to blackmail us.
You're lying your arse out! Anambrarians don't ask for that much for traditional marriage rites.
This is sheer exaggeration.
if you had mentioned some parts of Imo state like mbano,mbaise,orlu etc, i would have agreed with you.
If they listed these things for you, then it clearly shows they don't want you to marry their daughter.
So instead of saying no, they prefer to use the marriage dues to scare you away.
They might feel you're not capable enough to take care of their daughter. No Igbo would like to see their daughter suffer, all in the name of marriage.
And since you're not an Igbo man,its even more difficult. they don't know much about you.
Finally, first impression matters a lot. Your dressing, the people you came with and the way you address your self. If you dressed like a cargo on your first visit to them or came with a bunch of cargoes, then you had it coming.
Whats left for you to do is to negotiate and pray they change their minds.
Best of luck!

@Bk Baybe99:

The Answer to your question is that there are so many Niger-deltans with Igbo roots. There are alot of tribes that have an Igbo ancestrial background in Niger-delta, though most of them may not want to be identified as Igbos.
However dear, Igbos are looking for Biafra for a bigger and better reason than claiming Oil. We have a handful of Oil wells in Abia, Imo and Anambra (Those are core Igbo lands) Igbos are not crazy about Oil. We need a society that works, where making "legit" money can be easier.
Like me, There are millions of igbo people abroad that are doing well. It is painful that We spend all our money investing abroad, and not home because of the visible lack of basic infrastructures, which is as a result of the neglect of the region by the Northern and Western dominated Fed. Govt in Nigeria. It is far far beyond oil. Personally, I need to spend money in my country where my investments will be protected, where it can multiply and where I can be treated equally with my fellow countrymen interms of governmental packages.
The koko of the matter is that Igbos need the freedom to really express themselves. We need a fair and working environment to explode!
If Niger-deltans are given the choice of joining a region if Nigeria divides, They'll prefer to go with the Igbos than the Yorubas and Hausas. It is  a clear fact. Though Many sycophants may want to deny it, they are only spewing their thoughts and wishes. But, Igbos will never fight to have ND (Especially the non-Igbo parts) as part of Biafra. If they feel that they will be better off as a country or with any other region, good for them. All We Igbos need is a good environment to make MONEY and Spend it happily.

Igbos don't give a damn about Oil. As you know, Igbos have survived and will always survive without Oil.

That's my answer to you.

If I get an insolent reply from you, I'l conclude that your motive is very tribalistic.
If only the cargo go understand.

hmm so he claims, but a true leader does
not sacrifice 3million lives for nothing,
leave the country and then return to
form an alliance with the same people
who massacred your people. I smell deal
in there somewhere, me thinks he was
promised a piece of the action by the
british but unfortunately for him was
outsmarted by the british who are
known for their cunning and treachery,
he has continued to perpetuate the myth
that he actually gave a poo about his
people, on the contrary he offered them
up as sacrificial lambs in his
megalomania fuelled adventure.

@Cap28,
You live to fight for tomorrow. A dead man is worth nothing. His death wouldn't have changed anything.

Wrong information, so you mean every
tribe in N-Delta hate Igbos? Don't say that
again.

@Wily*Wily & Onlytruth,
I've lived with this people for years and i know what i'm talking about. Even the Niger-Delta Igbos there will never accept they're Igbos until they need ur help. You'll see them speaking Igbo as if there's no tomorrow.
Most of them will rather die than be with Igbos. I don't mean all but most of them.
I'm sticking to what i said.

This poster is a cargo squared 5.
There are Igbos in Niger Delta - Delta state and Rivers.
The Igbos are not in any way trying to side or join with Niger-deltans.
They (Niger-Deltans)hate our guts like die so i don't see any reason why the Igbos would side or join them. Igbos are hard-working people and they don't need to lean on any tribe to survive. Aside from hardwork, they have mineral resources like oil in Imo state & Anambra. Limestone in Nkalagu and others i can't remember.
So get your facts right before spewing rubbish in a public forum. Let ur speculations & baseless information be btw you and your friends.

@Cap28,
The biafra war wasn't because Odumegwu Ojukwu was selfish but because he was fighting for his people.
So long.

@Poster,
there's nothing frustrating about it if you know what to do.
Go to google and search for jad maker.
download it and make the jad file of the operamini or any java
application you want to install.
Send the both files(Jar & Jad) to ur phone and click the jad file to install.
I've tested it in samsung phones and it works perfectly.
if you have any problems, contact me.
Good Luck!

If you think i'll banter words with you over this, then you need to have your head examined.

I don't care.
I'm not here to throw words back & forth with you or anybody.

if a guys brags about having sex with you, find something

You can always say he's terrible in bed or he cries in bed.

@Ammamat,
Sorry to say this, but ur guy is a complete Cargo and a small boy.
You don't request for a kiss, its a spur of the moment thing. It comes naturally. It could be on ur first date or it could it take weeks, it doesn't matter when.
Your boyfriend is immature and likely to leave in no distant time.
So i'd advice you to let him go cos he's not worthy of ur love.
Most of all, be careful.
RomanceRe: Is It Not Too Early by cantell(m): 4:27pm On Jan 08, 2010
@amebo,
You're mean & callous and I resent that!
We all make mistakes, but do we have to be reminded of those mistakes each time we seek for help? The dream of many ladies is to find that special someone that'll sweep them off their feet.
For you to get that someone, you'll have to try. You'll kiss a lot of frogs before you get  your heartthrob unless you're extremely lucky.
Don't even say you're smart enough cos even the smartest ladies fall mugu.
So i hate it when you say someone is cheap & desperate because they want to find true love.
