I don't know why the NMA will dictate to govt who is the employer of labour on how to treat other employees. It beats me how a set of people who claim to be highly educated don't know the simple meaning of 'consultant'. Nigerian drs if u can't open ur dictionary, a simple Google Search for the word will suffice.
I have a lot of Dr friends and most time I wonder if they the same as the bunch of no nothing miscreants parading as doctors making noise up and down, disturbing the peace of the healthcare system. When I discuss with these highly accomplished doctors, the usual conclusion is that it is greed that will make a doctor to leave his own field and go poke nose in another's field.

I read where someone called people in other professions rejects, seriously u need help. I chose Nursing as a first choice and am proud of it cos they were the ones that made an impact in my life with all my hospital experience as a little child.

At the end of the day the govt is to blame cos when we don't have enough equipments and instruments that's when a doctor, nurse, lab scientist, pharmacist etc will have time to poke nose in anothers biz.

Our Nigerian trained doctors that are here making stupid noise will get abroad and work in hospitals with nurses, pharmacist or even a hospital administrator as the CEO. If you one, just reject the job offer and come back to Nigeria and be heading dilapidated buildings with nothing but greater embarrassment and shame.

The day our health sector took a turn for the worse was when they started this consolidation and look where it has kept us when it comes to health care.

Nigeria, a country that keeps trying the same failed policies all over and over without learning from the mistakes made. The day peace will come will be when everyone gets to be on the table and decisions are taken together, until then the cat and dog system continues.

The gang up against doctors is not only by allied health workers but also by some Nigerians. I did a post about how JOHESU members beat up Doctors at NAUTH just to registered their graviances against doctors in course o f this their strike .That post didn't see the day light.

However, the disparity in salary structure between doctors and JOHESU members can't be overemphasized.Read the statement of facts below to guard on the activities in the hospital

THE PATIENT COMES TO THE HOSPITAL TO SEE THE DOCTOR.

There are three group of people in the Hospital worldwide;

1. Doctor
2. Patients
3. Hospital support staff.

-A patient comes to a medical emergency unit rushed by his relatives.
-The DOCTOR sends for his file/folder to be retrieved by the MEDICAL RECORDS STAFF.
-The DOCTOR takes history from PATIENT and examines the PATIENT.
-The DOCTOR makes a diagnosis (or set of diagnosis-differential diagnosis).
-The DOCTOR asks the PHARMACIST to supply the drugs for the particular disease.
-The DOCTOR asks the NURSE to administer the drugs.
-The DOCTOR asks the PATIENT to go to Radiology department to do an X-RAY/CT-SCAN.
-The DOCTOR in the Radiology department (RADIOLOGIST) asks the RADIOGRAPHER to do the X-ray. The DOCTOR in the Radiology department (RADIOLOGIST) interprets the X-ray and writes a report to be taken to the DOCTOR in the Emergency.
-The DOCTOR in the Emergency unit uses the X-ray report to further treat the patient.
-The DOCTOR sends the PATIENT to the laboratory to do some tests.
-The DOCTOR in the laboratory (PATHOLOGIST) asks the LABORATORY SCIENTIST or LABORATORY TECHNICIAN to do the test or do the test himself if necessary.
The DOCTOR in the laboratory (PATHOLOGIST) interprets the report and sends the patient back to the doctor in the emergency.
-The DOCTOR evaluates the patient and asks for more drugs from the PHARMACY for the NURSE to administer.
-The DOCTOR admits the patient to the ward if patient is not good to go or discharges the patient if he is good.
-THE DOCTOR in the ward keeps on seeing the patient and evaluating his needs. THE DOCTOR calls for the assistance of the NURSE, PHARMACIST, LABORATORY SCIENTIST/TECHNICIAN, RADIOGRAPHER when the need arises.
But there is always a need for the DOCTOR to be in CONTACT with the progress of the patient.
-THE DOCTOR DISCHARGES the PATIENT home or CERTIFIES him dead as the case may be.

IT BEGINS WITH THE DOCTOR and PATIENT from admission and ends with DOCTOR and PATIENT on discharge from the hospital.

1. DOCTORS WORLDWIDE are LEADERS of the health sector in the best of centers.
-Google LIST OF BEST HOSPITALS IN THE WORLD.
A list of many hospital according to ranking would come up.
-Take the first 5, or 10, or 20 hospitals ONE BY ONE.
-For each hospital Google it's leadership.
-All would show you that the doctor is the head.
The CEO/CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER of all the hospitals have MD or MBBS as their basic qualification. (Most of these doctors have no any other non-medical qualification).

PLEASE GOOGLE FOR YOURSELF
-THE BEST HOSPITALS in the world.
-Then LEADERSHIP OF EACH HOSPITAL.

2.)DOCTORS ARE PAID FAR BETTER THAN OTHER SUPPORT STAFF WORLDWIDE.
This pay gets far different when the DOCTOR is a SPECIALIST: CONSULTANT (UK/INDIA) or an ATTENDING PHYSICIAN (USA).

Google the best hospitals in the world and the salary of the workers.

Google for yourself.
Do not be fed with lies.

3.) CAREER PROGRESSION for DOCTORS.
Doctors have two pathways for progression in Nigeria:
i. NORMAL CIVIL SERVICE where you are promoted to the next grade after every 3years.
ii. POSTGRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION, where you enroll into residency and is only promoted after rigorous academic and practical training and passing of professional examinations.
After NYSC the doctor pays heavily to write an exam called primaries. After the primaries he/she undergo extensive training as a REGISTRAR and after 3-5years write the PART 1 exams to become a SENIOR REGISTRAR. After another 3-5years he writes another exam to become a FELLOW/CONSULTANT. Each of PART 1 and 2 exams advance the doctor only one grade level (e.g Part 1 exam after 3-5 years moves a DOCTOR from grade 12 to 13. Part 2 after another 3-5moves a doctor from grade 13-14).
The pass rate of these exams generally is between 10-30%.
Its difficult to progress through the postgraduate pathway. You may spend more than 6years without promotion.

GOOGLE THE TRUTH.

MAHATHIR MOHAMAD, 92, SWORN IN AS THE WORLD'S OLDEST ELECTED LEADER AFTER SHOCK WIN IN MALAYSIA
From The Telegraph By Nicola Smith, Asia Correspondent (Edited By Cantok)
10 May 2018
Mahathir Mohamad, who previously served as prime minister for 22 years was sworn in as the world's oldest prime minister late on Thursday evening, outside the Istana Negara palace in the capital, Kuala Lumpur, making an extraordinary political comeback as Malaysia's leader at the age of 92.

Hours of unexplained delays in Dr Mahathir's appointment heightened fears that the transition of power, after ousting a coalition that had ruled Malaysia for over sixty years, would not be smooth. The former political strongman urged Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the country's monarch, to allow him to form a government by 5pm, warning that any delay would mean you "have no government, you have no law, you have no constitution."

Despite lingering uncertainty about his appointment, Dr Mahathir turned up at the palace shortly before 5pm in a black limousine, accompanied by his wife, Dr Siti Hasmah Ali.

The palace was later forced to issue a statement to “strongly refute” any allegation that the king had delayed Dr Mahathir’s transition to power.

“His Majesty the King strongly supports and respects the democratic process and the wishes of his subjects,” read the statement, adding that the monarch looked forward to working with the new government “for the betterment of our nation and all its people.”

Official results from the Election Commission showed that Mahathir's opposition grouping Pakatan Harapan, along with a small ally, had secured 121 parliamentary seats. 112 are needed to form a government. BN got 79 seats - a dramatic drop from the 133 they held previously.

The elections were dominated by an investigation into allegations that billions were siphoned from a state investment fund, 1MDB, and laundered through foreign bank accounts. But the prime minister has consistently denied any wrongdoing and has been cleared of any offence by Malaysia’s attorney general. "We are not seeking revenge, we want to restore the rule of law," Mahathir told reporters, as he declared victory.

A win means for Dr Mahathir would make him the world’s oldest elected government leader. But in one of the biggest U-turns of his 70-year career in politics, he has signalled he is ready to hand over power to Anwar Ibrahim, an opposition icon who he sacked as his deputy in the 1990s. Mr Anwar is currently serving time in jail after being convicted of sodomy, in a case his opposition party claim was created to curb their rise in popularity. He will be released in June.

Dr Mahathir has said he will overturn a controversial 6% goods and services tax, which has been widely blamed for rising living costs, and has counted as a black mark against the government.

Crime / Villagers Flee Into The Bush As Herdsmen Raid Adamawa Again by cantok(m): 2:56pm On May 09, 2018
Residents of at least five villages in Adamawa State are currently scuttling to the bush, following renewed attacks by herdsmen.

The villages — Nega, Bang, Gon, Bolki, and Nzumosu (all in Numan Local Government) — have been under sporadic attacks since last week Wednesday, although one or two villages, such as Yanga, have remained impenetrable to the attackers.

“The terrorists have wanted to attack since Friday [last week] but they were dispersed by a combination of CTU, Mopol and highway patrol,” one of the villagers, who asked not to be named for fear of being hunted down, told SaharaReporters on phone as he was running into the bush.

“However, on Monday, they started gathering close to Nega and 5am today, they burnt a church in the village.

“Already, before now, when the info went round about their gathering, villagers sent their women and children away, while only the men stayed back to defend their villages.”

Nega and Bang are on the border between Adamawa and Taraba, so they are the first villages on the path of the attackers, who are coming from Taraba state.

“Youth from all these other villages has been mobilizing support from Nega and Bang to prevent the attackers from reaching the other villages,” he continued.

“So, the attackers sensed they might face some resistance and decided to use another route to one of the villages, Gon, where they set rice farms on fire. Mind you, people are harvesting dry season rice at this moment.”

SaharaReporters confirmed that security forces were notified of the attack well before the assailants entered the villages but it was unclear what their response was.

Business / MTN: Trump’s Iran Decision May Affect Business by cantok(m): 2:47pm On May 09, 2018
MTN Group, South African telecommunications company, says US President Donald Trump’s decision to pull out of the nuclear accord with Iran may make it difficult to repatriate funds from the country.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the company said this may cause its share price to plummet.

Trump had announced on Tuesday that the US would reintroduce economic sanctions on Iran, which were lifted under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreement.

“We cannot prevent an Iranian nuclear bomb under the decaying and rotten structure of the current agreement,” Trump said.

“We will not allow American cities to be threatened with destruction and we will not allow a regime that chants ‘Death to America’ to gain access to the most deadly weapons on earth.”

The company said this decision will “limit the ability of MTN Group to repatriate cash, both dividends and loans, from MTN Irancell”.

“We will continue to monitor the situation including the response of the Iranian authorities and the other JCPOA members.”

In 2018, MTN Group has repatriated €88 million from MTN Irancell including the €61 million relating to the full 2017 dividend due to MTN and another €27 million of historic dividends.

The remaining balance due to MTN is approximately €200 million.

MTN said it remains committed to its investment in Irancell and to repatriating the balance of legacy cash in Iran whilst remaining compliant with appropriate legislation.

In its recently released first quarter financial results, the company reported increased subscription to its services.

Crime / How 7 Men Tied & Raped Me Inside Gutter - Woman Tells Court by cantok(m): 7:06pm On May 03, 2018
Lagos— A woman’s narration of how she was allegedly raped by seven men in a gutter sometime in 2014 before Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo of a Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere left many in tears, as she said she had to relocate to Port Harcourt because of shame.

The victim, who was led in evidence by the Lagos State prosecutor, Miss Monisola Osibogun, said on April 11, 2014, she and her sister boarded a bus from Ejigbo heading to 7/8 bus stop, and after alighting from the bus, some boys started pursuing them, adding that while she and her sister were running, one of the defendants brought out cutlass and pushed her into a gutter. The four defendants are Tochukwu Ilom, Confidence Oziegbe, Simeon Peter and Nnemeka Ugochukwu.

The victim, who was crying in the witness box while testifying, said: “The fourth defendant tied my legs to the flower, the third defendant used his cutlass on me, tied my hands and pushed me into the gutter. While inside the gutter, the first defendant pulled his pair of trousers, held on to my neck and raped me. He slapped me and said I should stop looking at his face. “The seven of them all took turns to rape me inside the gutter; with my hands and legs tied, the second defendant collected my phone and purse, he then asked me the actual amount that was in the purse. “After they finished raping me, they untied me and I struggled out of the gutter.

I was going naked when the first defendant asked me to come back and put on my trousers. Because of the fear, I wore it wrongly and left, then the first defendant called me back and pointed a gun at me and said I should wear my trousers properly. “When I started running, I saw three people pursuing me and I started running back and met the first defendant at the same spot and he said ‘you this useless girl where are you going to.’ I told him that I saw three men running after me, he then showed me another way to take. At that point when I was running I heard my sister calling me, immediately I ran towards her, I saw her with a policeman and I fainted. “After I fainted, I found myself at Igando Police Station.

When I woke up, I saw the first defendant and I told the policeman, this is one of the boys that raped me, but he denied that he was the one, the policeman pulled his pair of trousers and discovered that there was blood on his private part. “I was invited to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, where they brought seven men, but I was only able to identify these four, because I did not know the other three.

After pointing out the four defendants, I was taken to two different hospitals, where I spent one month.” The victim, who said the defendants stole her phone, wallet and cash, told the court that she wants justice to be done in the case. The defendants were arraigned in January 2015, on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, robbery and rape preferred against them by the police.

The Lagos State prosecutor, Miss Monisola Osibogun, said the defendants committed the alleged offences on April 11, 2014, at about 6 am, at 7/8 bus stop along Airport Road, Lagos. Osibogun said that the defendants robbed the victim of her Samsung Galaxy phone valued at N40,000, a wallet and N2,200 and raped her.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the offences.
