If you are asking me this question then you don't know anything about being physical especially when you point at Lewis Skelly who is built like a tank. Ødeggard is another player that is physical don't let his height deceive you he's well built same for Havertz whose key strength is his good holdup play and imposing height making him difficult to nudge off the ball.
I won't begrudge Alonso for fielding James and Lavia because they were the best options available to him, Lavia was supposed to be the one dictating play and tracking Odegard but he lacks legs to track his man leaving James exposed multiple times. In a 2man midfield you need midfielders who can cover ground as well as being good with the ball but our midfield pairing yesterday weren't that and we lost the game, that the scoreline wasn't embarrassing was due to Alonso superior coaching.
Arteta lost the tactical battle his superior players bailed him out not due to any tactical brilliance- his later subs were subpar I.e removing Lewis Skelly for Zubimendi allowed Chelsea to grow into the game and thanks to Raya the game could've ended in a draw

You are confusing tenacity for being physical. Lewis skelly is tenacious but isn't more physical than either James or Lavia. We did not lose the midfield battle because Arsenal had more physicality when they had an average player like Rice and Lewis as a base. The set up from Alonso was wrong from the start, he had the personal to beat that average Arsenal team but fumbled it.
