Exactly my point, these guys are found in private practices .

Even in Nigeria , some specialist are big boys .
The oil and gas where big boys earns are private company why do you want to be a billionaire in public company?
Where do you see private company in the article? It is even U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics that published the statistics.

Look at canada statistics. Government is major employer of doctors in Canada

Not true, patient are been turned away from the A/E and the wards are vacant. No HO's on ground and consultants won't do anything without HO'S and residents.

Only outpatients that have routine drugs to pick up can get them or if they have consultant clinics to attend as outpatients.

It depends on patients load in each hospital. Some hospitals still attend to some emergencies. You don't take new patients if you don't have human resources to take care of them.

Even without such amendments, every worker knows their employer. If their employer meets their demands, no need to join another strike that doesnt affect them, that doesnt mean they cant lend their voices but not through industrial action.

Go through labour act, trade dispute act, international labour convention etc. You are just being sentimental.

SUCH SOLIDARITY IS UNLAWFUL PROVIDED STATE ASUU MEMBERS ARE NOT BEEN OWED BY STATE GOVERNMENT, THEIR EMPLOYERS. FEDERAL ASUU MEMBERS CAN STRIKE IF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OWES THEM but while teaching is important to every country, it doesnt count as essential services. That is why during lockdown most schools closed globally, until scientist got knowledge on the virus. But power companies, food companies, security agencies, health workers, fire service, online banking etc didnt close down totally but partially

That is flaw of constitution. Labour matter is on exclusive list of constitution.
If constitution is amended and labour falls into concurrent list, state workers would not join federal workers on strike.

The bone of contention is not about them striking or demanding for their pay and welfare, it is rather that SKELETAL SERVICES should still be available at TERTIARY HOSPITALS in the A/E DEPARTMENT.

Health sector is an ESSENTIAL SECTOR, it just cannot shut down completely, just like every other ESSENTIAL SECTOR.

STATE OWED hospitals shouldn't be on strike either, they are not been owed, their show of SOLIDARITY by shutting down too is IRRESPONSIBLE, rather they can lend a voice to government on NARD'S BEHALF.

Skeletal services are being rendered.

At your last sentence, do you really want to be treated like security forces?

The police that has poor welfare and salaries, worse than doctors. They buy their own uniforms and shoes, their guns are outdated, they don't even have enough bullet rounds in them. Their stations are mostly in bad shape across Nigeria, their housing quarters is nothing to write home about, their training police college, even many NYSC camps are far better than it. They risk their lives in gun battles with criminals, even before anything like life insurance was introduced by the FG. Do you really want the police treatment?

The army is equally in poor shape, money meant for equipment and guns looted by politicians and generals. Been sent to sambisa forest to fight for Nigeria but they aren't properly equipped, some were owed salaries while in battle, they have to struggle for what to eat in that environment, no access to clean water, and they are been killed in their hundreds almost weekly, do you want that kind of hazard or treatment?

Nard actually are trying to make HO's part of them, they are not. They want to use welfare as an Avenue to justify HO's been part of them, but they are clearly different. It's simply a game of STRENGTH IN NUMBERS for NARD. If NARD'S demands are met today, I tell you they will resume today whether HO's are paid or not. They will beg HO's to resume work too and that WHILE AT WORK THEY WILL KEEP FIGHTING THEY GET PAID, but if it's the opposite, they wont allow HO's resume.

Level for level, those guys are earning more than doctors. Most soldiers have secondary school certificates.
Military budget is more than healthcare budget.
Police budget is more than healthcare budget.

HOs are part of nard. It is stated clearly in nard constitution.

Ps:

HO's mean HOUSE OFFICER(S), name you call the lowest ranked doctor in graduate training to become a General practitioner.

NARD mean NIGERIAN ASSOCIATION OF RESIDENT DOCTORS, name you call senior doctors in training to become SPECIALIST in a specific field of medicine.

Consultants are the most senior doctors, they have undergone the HO's stage and the Residency stage of NARD and are Specialist doctors in their field.

So it is no longer news that NARD are currently on strike over their unpaid salaries running 3 months.

They gave 60 days notice to the FG but as usual FG allowed the grace period to pass without doing anything tangible.

The NARD are clamouring for their unpaid salaries, increase of their hazard allowance from N5000 to 50% of their basic salary, integration of all NARD members to IPPIS, and a few minor ones.

Why FG is selfish?

FG is selfish because as usual they want to ONLY enjoy the spoils of Nigeria instead of an even distribution of wealth according to occupation across Nigeria. Corruption being a major issue here.

Why NARD is unreasonable?
NARD'S demands are not UNREASONABLE but to be clear their APPROACH is unreasonable. I list the reasons and suggestions in them about how to fix it.

1. HO's shouldn't be on a strike with NARD, NARD made them join. Some NARD members even claim they are part of them, despite them been on different programs. NARD are paid by IPPIS platform why HO's are paid by the FG directly. NARD even unlawfully deduct HO's salaries, to their displeasure. NARD dragged HO's into the strike cause HO's haven't been paid for 3 months.

HO's can easily be paid by the government but when they are eventually, NARD wont allow them resume in the hospitals because their demands MUST BE MET FIRST despite them running different programs. HO's program make them GENERAL PRACTITIONERS while NARD'S program make them SPECIALIST.

If NARD are paid first then the strike will be called off today even if HO's have not received their salaries, they will go back to work and tell the HO'S they are NEGOTIATING WITH FG ON THEIR BEHALF BUT THEY WILL BE BACK AT WORK BUT IF HO'S ARE PAID BEFORE THEM THEY WON'T ALLOW THEM RESUME.

These has been the routine, so HO's are just been used by NARD. The reason isn't far fetched, LET NIGERIANS FEEL THE STRIKE, that is NARD'S USUAL MOTTO. By that statement they mean let the poor who cannot afford PRIVATE CLINICS THAT NARD'S STILL OWN AND RUN SHOULD DIE LIKE FOULS, THEN WHEN VULNERABLE PEOPLE START DYING, THEN FG CAN RESPOND APPROPRIATELY. WELL PEOPLE HAVE STARTED DYING ALREADY, LET'S SEE HOW MANY WILL DIE BEFORE FG ACTS.

2. While Medicine is a job that REQUIRES pay when due it is also an ESSENTIAL SERVICE. What that mean is that NARD can go on strike for their demands which is justified but the hospitals should still be able to RESPOND ADEQUATELY TO ACCIDENTS AND EMERGENCY CASES ONLY. This can only be possible IF HO's work closely with the CONSULTANTS who both should not be on STRIKE but that is not the case in Nigeria, once NARD STRIKES the whole HOSPITAL PRACTICAL SHUTS DOWN.

Although doctors are on ground like the HO'S and consultants, no work will be done and this is terrible for an essential service. The worst part is state hospitals are not been owed but they have STARTED TO JOIN THE TERTIARY HOSPITALS TO STRIKE, IN A FORM OF SOLIDARITY!!!.

We have other essential services like the POLICE, MILITARY, FIRE SERVICE, AIRPORT AND SEA PORT WORKERS, PHCN WORKERS etc. JUST IMAGINE IF THIS GUYS OR ANYONE OF THEM GO ON COMPLETE STRIKE ACROSS NIGERIA, THAT WOULD BE A DISASTER!. The arm forces faces more hazard than the average citizen but while they complain, they know that can't ALL abandon their duty post and leave us all in insecurity, that's been REASONABLE TO THE POOR NIGERIANS THAT CANT AFFORD PRIVATE SECURITY.

ALL ESSENTIAL WORKERS IN NIGERIA ARE MANAGING INCLUDING NARD, NOTHING IS PERFECT BUT THEY MUST STILL GIVE SKELETAL SERVICES (not by NARD directly in this strike but HO's and Consultants)EVEN IF THEY DECIDE TO STRIKE AND NOT A COMPLETE SHUT DOWN.

3. Poor Nigerians are the ones suffering all this not EVEN FG the villian. 2 wrongs don't make a right. FG is clearly wrong but NARD are matching them for evil toe to toe. If this fight is truly about the SAFETY of Nigeria and the WELFARE of NARD, then NARD should allow HO's back to work WHILE they fight for HO's right and theirs. But if is SOLEY ABOUT MONEY they would continue to DRAG HO's who shouldn't strike in the first place based on their condition of service with the FG, making TERTIARY HOSPITALS USELESS cause consultants won't even lift a muscle.

This is the REALITY OF THE ONGOING STRIKE to NIGERIANS, other reports are one sided and biased.

You tried.
Have you looked at nard constitution? Hos are part of nard. Through they are not expected to join strike , they cannot cope with job demand. Consultants can only attend to few non-critical patients.
In this strike , all doctors must be paid before strike would be called off. They are being owned 4 to 20 months salaries.

If you want doctors not to embark on strike, give them status as security agents in term of remuneration and condition of services among others .

Former United States of America’s Ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell, has said in his latest blog post that there is a trend that Nigeria’s emerging middle class is leaving the country for greener pastures.

Campbell, in an article written on Council on Foreign Relations’ website titled, ‘Nigeria’s “Emerging Middle Class” is Leaving’, noted that about half of Nigeria’s population lives in extreme poverty, in absolute number more than any other country in the world.

He said: “Boosters often like to talk about an ‘emerging middle class’ in Africa. Leaving aside definitional issues—who is middle class varies from country to country—in some African countries a middle class does seem to be growing, though it is not as big or growing as fast as some of the media hype implies. Nigeria, with its huge population, is one of the countries that commentators often look to.”

Continuing in his report, he added: “But Quartz Africa identified the fact that many of those who are tech-savvy or have other job qualifications in demand—current or potential members of such a middle class—are leaving. Many seek to raise their families abroad and do not intend to come back. Popular destinations include Canada and Australia, both of which have skills-based immigration programs. Others, for example, deliberately overstay their visas in the United States, which has led to a crackdown on US visas for Nigerians.”

The former American envoy stated further: “Drivers of middle class immigration, according to Quartz, include the breakdown of the Nigerian educational system at virtually all levels, high unemployment and poverty levels in Nigeria, and a general disillusionment with the country’s political leadership. In the March 2019 presidential elections, only 35 percent of those registered actually voted. Even taking into account voter suppression, which did occur, the figure is not encouraging.”

According to an Afrobarometer survey of 34 African countries, the younger and more educated a person is, the more likely they are to consider emigrating.

“About half of Nigeria’s population lives in ‘extreme poverty, in absolute number more than any other country in the world,” said Campbell. “The poor can emigrate, but they are more likely to cross an adjacent border in the search for work.”

The Afrobarometer reports that most Africans that consider immigrating, consider doing so to another African country.

Doctors are too greedy. How can anyone be comparing his pay with Senators and Reps pay.Do you know what these people pass through to get there?
Moreover, did government force anyone to study medicine? Now that you get employed by government and can't do your job. Doctors at government hospital behave like gods.bad attitude to work, very irresponsible at work.
Most of them are doing politics at work. Government should proscribed their Union.Let every doctor speak for himself. The bad eggs among them are the leaders of their union. Most young doctors don't support these demands.

Many of them have private hospitals. No monitoring by government. These people are ripping off the government.

Sanni Abacha even opt to employ doctors from other African countries b4 they get brain reset.

You are shameless man!
Even Abacha increased salary of doctors. He told organized labour, he can only increase salary of doctors but not all workers.

Some doctors are owned 4 to 20 months salaries. They are young doctors. Are you saying they should not be paid?

You are saying doctors should not have private hospitals. Can you also tell engineers, accountants and workers in hospitals not to engage in other businesses?
Do you know some doctors are going other businesses outside the working hours? These businesses are more more lucrative than hospital businesses.

People can watch movies or comedy shows for 5k but they cannot pay medical consultation of #5k.

Doctors are asking for death benefits. Present insurance
is a scam. All health workers will benefit from it.

Is it not shameful hazard allowance is 5k? All health workers will benefit from it. Even lectures are getting hazard allowance of #30k.

If you see guys working in public sectors like firn, Cbn, nnpc, ncc and etc, you would be ashamed of yourself as health workers.

I bet you, this is not about the good of the patient, nobody is fighting for the upgrade of hospitals , don’t be fooled .its just for selfish interest.

If the government gives in to their demand,I bet you johesu will go on strike too, and the cycle will continues.

How you ask yourself that why the health sector is the only sector where the public sector is more lucrative than the private sector

PERVENCHE:
*NOTE
With all due respect, I have changed names and some too familiar details about myself out of respect for my wife to be. I know she likes to catch cruise on nairaland.

My name is Friday (of course not my real name) I am from the middle-belt. So please save your tribalism with all those una Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa insults. I met Grace(my wife to be) few years ago. It was love at 1st sight. She was everything and is still everything I had hoped a woman should be. There is this crass about her that makes her effortlessly better than any lady around her. My type in the true sense of the word. Tall, busty, curvy, sassy, elegant, personable and above all, she has a graceful soul. From the 1st date to this day, I still pinch my self like.. What in God's green earth is a beauty like her doing with a shrek like me.

But then, true perfection is always a utopia. Grace in all her graceful demeanour and aura, has a flaw; Indecision! More so, blind trust seems to be her albatross. (I swear she can even take Lai Muhammad's word to the bank) Though, I still love her; flaws and all. Her complete or should I say blind trust for me and Abigail became one of the reasons Abigail(her younger sister) has become an unending chapter in our relationship. Even though the blame of what happened squarely falls on me.

Abigail just shy off 20, is too savvy for her age. Not the outright outstanding beauty like my Grace. What ever little she lacks in beauty, she more than makes up for it in her mentality. For she is truly a smart and an intelligent girl. Just five years younger than Grace. One who expect them at least to be close and be like Asaba and Onisha but then...they are the direct opposite of each other. While Grace is the introverted shy person, Abigail is quite the extrovert and likes to make friends for Africa. It is only fair to believe their formative time in secondary school played a part in their output towards life. Grace likes to conform like most day school students. Abigail on the other hand, is the boarding school nightmare all parents hope not to experience: the deviant.

Through the 1st years we dated, Abigail was in secondary school and was never in the picture. For some odd or strange reason, Grace was not ready to fully commit. Not that I blame her or something. At 23, Most girls her age are like Alice in wonderland; they crush on celebrities and Chase childhood dreams and fantasies. The vile ones, if truth be told...tend to live out their hoė phase. At 28, I was already grounded to know what I wanted and it was Grace and marriage. Sometimes, you do all you can do but then life has a way of throwing in a curveball. More over, "No be say because I wan chop egg I go begin dey worship chicken." Sensing her shakara, I pulled the hand brakes on us and walked out of the relationship.

***2 years later***
Fortunately or unfortunately after letting go, Grace became incensed and started to want me back. I hardly do any social media at this point. Pride won't let her call me, so there was no way to send coded messages on whatsapp status to me. Being the introvert that she is and the all trusting graceful Grace, she started to send Abigil over to my place to bridge the gap. In just over two years, Abigail had changed and developed into a sexy hippie bohemian. Not that I fancy her in any erotic way or something. It's just that in our contemporary naija society where mostly everyone conforms, it is hard not to notice a bohemian.

Knowing I would do no better than Grace even with a million dollars and in a hundred years of searching, I mended fences with Grace and our relationship became stronger than ever. Over time, Abigail became a bridge between us. At first, Grace would send her over to run errands for her. After a while, it became a second nature for her to come over and fidget with my electronics. Courtesy demands you be nice to your in-laws to be and so I was nice to Abigail.

Abigail's posturing over time made it difficult for me to say no to her especially during them Nengi and Laycon days in the house. She was a fan of big brother lockdown. And would always ask for my keys to watch the silly show for she was equally as silly to be gushing over that vanity fair. Grace seems not have any issues with her coming over and I also did not for I was hardly home and God knows the sub was kinda wasting away.

There are some things in life that are not planned. They just happen! My boss at work then tested positive for Covid and we were all asked to quarantine at home. Grace still had to go to work while Abigail was always free because of the ASSU strike. Suddenly, I started to be alone with Abigail. She would come over "for big brother" around 9am and leave around 7pm in time to beat her curfew at home. It was awkward staying all day with Abigail. Grace too predictable, only comes over on Sunday. For some strange reasons, on Sundays, Abigail will never show up.

There were times, and I am sure it could just be my imagination, that she enjoyed teasing me. She would come dressed like a sister Mary Amaka from home but after a while, she would take her bath and transform into a Kardashian. Wearing skimpy cloths and heavy make-up. I tried to give her her space. I was in quarantine and therefore, had practically no where to go. I am basically the type that don't flock with co-workers and I hardly keep any friends except for Grace. I am not one to be neighbourly with my neighbours so I was stuck with Abigail all day. Humans are social animals and we tend to gravitate towards each other especially when we are alone with someone. Gradually, she won me over and I started to watch the big brother show with her. While she was rooting for Nengi after her Erica left, I was simply for Neo for he had my height. And the bond between us grew. God knows I had no vile motives and evil intentions. It is hard not to enjoy Abigail's company for she is a smart, gleeful and witty girl. While I do all the talking with Grace, Abigail on the other hand does all the talking with me and it was a welcome change.

*** D Day ***
It became obvious Abigail was not telling the truth at home. She would pick their calls and tell them she was in her female friend's house. And in the spirit of our new found big brother bond. We kept the secret. On this faithful day, it had rained all day and Nepa had struck and the plug in my generator was no good. The rain had brought with it a cool breeze and some magical thunder. Seemingly, we could not watch our show so I took a blanket because of the cold and buried my attention on my PC (laptop) re-watching season 5 of the game of thrones.

Naively, Abigail joined me and entered the blanket with me. I use the word 'naive' because I honestly do not want to qualify her as a minx. And I know she does not see me as a Justine Bieber of a crystal ball for her to be drooling at. While in that warm blanket watching the movies in such compromising position, One thing led to another and alot of that one thing opened up her Pandora's box and I... I ate the most forbidden fruit there ever was. There is no telling how wonderful making love to her was at the heat of the moment and there's no shame in the world that equates to the shame that immediately dwell and still dwells in my soul shortly after even to this day. There's a lot to blame our mistake and betrayal on. Could it just be the moment? the weather? the chemistry? the devil? (laughs) my opportunistic habit? Her feminine warmth in such close proximity? my placing a hand on her thigh and meeting no resistance? My foggy mind and grown erection? Her racing and panting heart? Her feisty zeal and deviant nature? My libido? Hers? My morals? Buhari? Herdsmen? IPOB? Sunday Igbahor? Dstv and big brother? NEPA? Game of thrones? Was she after all really a minx? In all fairness, she is just a little naive girl that does not deserve to be pilloried for my betrayal. As the adult, I should have known better and acted a lot better.

Climbing down from our lustful climax, we both knew immediately what we had done, the gravity and the implications it could have on not just us, but grace and the whole family. In the most contrite way possible, we apologized to ourselves and vowed never to repeat it again. We felt it would be better not to tell Grace or anyone and we agreed Abigail would stop coming over. I started to avoid Abigail at all cost. I did not just release cum after my despicable act with Abigail, I released every thing good in me and every form of happiness. I felt much less of a man and wished I had died as a child or better still was aborted.

I hardly could face Grace after. The more I try to ghost her, the more she held on tightly. It became awkward visiting their family house for I was not comfortable around them trusting and accepting me. Not for the fear that they would find out...just my conscience eating me up. I stayed away and made peace with my gross mistake. For over six to seven months. I did my penance and nothing happened with Abigail. I know I am in a better place now to make sane decisions about cheating. To give something back to Grace, I have vowed never to sleep with anyone till die. We know how cheating amongst married men is common these days. I no call Adekule Gold name oh!

Me and Grace are set to marry on the 17th of this April. The thing is...Abigail is her chief bridesmaid and preparation demands I see her most times. She still has a look in her eyes...dunno what to make of it. A look of blackmail? Of you could still hit it if you want? We have unfinished business kinda look? You should be paying a bride price for two look? I die inside every time I see Grace happy she again got us back to talking terms because of the wedding. Ignorance is truly bliss.

I have doubts going through with this wedding. Folks may laugh and say I chickened out because of the inflation and money, others might blame Grace. It may ruin Grace for ever. How do I do this knowing Abigail will always be family?

It is better you quit now. Sooner or later, truth will be revealed. I see divorce in the future. The truth is that if there is any problem with grace in the future and Abigael come into picture, the same scenario will repeat itself. May be next one will happen in your matrimonial bed.
You are not a faithful man.

The federal Government should just disband the present police force , which is actually the most useless police in the world and constitute another police force, while the Soldiers particularly the non commissioned soldiers would all be retired and given their retirement benefits depending on the Number of years they have served , a new Police and Military should be constituted and the present milita that has produced stupid useless rogues should be disbanded
I agree.

Hmmm...... at times you work in these companies... they are sold several times and you wouldn't know until you see a different paycheck... or letterhead... but everything else remains the same. I believe the union should be fighting to ensure that if sold.... the new company would honor the existing contract.

It is expected that many workers would be sacked after new management takes over. Besides, present staff does not know details of mou between old and new management.

Idiot....your definition of the man is wrong..
Who is a Tout?
It is obvious that you are deluded and deranged.. Because Oluomo didn't falls into the level of being a Tout. ..he remits his Union Tax to the government coffers on a monthly basis.. His Union is registered and recognized under the law of the federation and Lagos State...
For the fact that you hate him doesn't mean you should be bad-mouthing him on social media... As a matter of fact, he is more accomplished than your entire lineage and the generation yet unborn...
He may not have the opportunity of schooling himself but he has an edge over you and your entire lineage...you can come with your 35k phone and 500MB and be using it to be making an illogical comment...
I'm not surprised at all because, Nymiri people are disastrous to their host community

Money is a yardstick for being successful.
I am very sure if shekau of boko kingdom repents and become popular politician in the future like of you will vote for him if he contests for an elective post since he is rich

The FG under the PDP led Administration paid over 99billion as damages after the court judgement in favor of Odi. Only few elites from that part share the money.

The HR person is at fault I am in HR and because of these kinds of reactions, I usually start my calls by introducing myself first so the other person knows who is calling and is at ease. He could have simply said "I am John D calling from bank. That wouldnt hurt. That said, the lady should have been cautious as a job seeker that was just interviewed and expecting phone calls. Lets call a spade a spade please.

The lady was arrogant.

Look at the conversation again!

Her first remark when she picked was "who's this?"

Before she got any other reply she added "how did you get my number?"

The HR person goes "Am I speaking to Miss xxxxxxx?"

"Please if you don't want to introduce yourself get out of my phone" that was her final word!

You will do the same thing the said lady did lol, just read your comment again.

Why must you query an unknown caller like that at first instance

What stops you from saying hello, good morning or good afternoon or good evening

The truth is, most Nigerian ladies of our time have developed foolish manners as a result of small boys chasing them around to fvck them.

Even at my level in life, when I get a call, my first reply is hello, good morning or good afternoon or something.

Even my aged mother, anytime I call her, her first response is hello, followed with a greeting, and then how are you my son....a wonderful woman.

But most of you ladies of our time lack manners, all thanks to the jobless Yahoo Boys chasing and passing you ladies around and messing up your manners thereafter. Kiss the truth grin

You can say " may I know who is speaking ' or you could say hello, morning etc. Most important thing is being polite.

that's one way to look at it though: with the advent of scammers and sim swappers, one can be so careful. As HR, if you call someone ehn, just introduce yourself before any other thing, e go sure pass. cus me self, some strange Foreign numbers just the call me these days from all over the world. I simply block it when they are done breathing on the other side
But she should have responded to HR politely
