There are people whose loyalty is not to Nigeria but to their tribes, religion or political parties. There are also those who for one of the reasons above will never see anything good in what Buhari does no matter how good or in our best interest. They are the set that even if Buhari walks on water like Jesus Christ they'll say it's because he cannot swim and why is he walking on that kind of water and not another kind. Now, this displayed so well in the last address to the nation. Many haters of Buhari as usual came out with conspiracy theories. A simple broadcast which is devoid of any mistakes couldn't be taken in good faith by these busybodies. The most surprising thing is their display of ignorance. Having nothing to fight Buhari with they resorted to claiming he is not in the country and that there is a foreign flag behind him. Let me explain that flag. That flag is the NIGERIAN DEFENCE FORCES FLAG. You see it hoisted at Federal Ministry of Defence. You see it during independence parade. You see it during handover from one Government to the other and you see it behind the Commander-in-Chiet of the Nigerian Armed Forces. If you look well it was behind Obasanjo, Yar'Adua and Jonathan during their tenures as President. The Nigerian Defence Forces flag has three horizontal stripes of the same width: red, marine blue and cyan. It is used in a plain version, and also with two concentric circles in the centre containing the Nigerian Defence Force badge. Flag with the badge: There are two concentric circles covering the three stripes. The central circle is the big one with the badge of the Nigerian Defence Force: A centred Cyan eagle with unfolded wings And marking the center two black crossed swords One blue anchor on the bottom. One small red winged symbol on the top Bordering the central circle, there is another concentric circle, formed by small white circles with a green background (National flag colours). The plain Nigerian Defence Force flag flies at military barracks, all across the country, and they have their property walls painted in stripes with the same three colours. The flag with the badge is less common, but it can be seen flying at "Ship House" housing the Ministry of Defence in Abuja It looks like the tri-service flag, with colours representing, from top to bottom, the Army, Navy and Air Force. Now there is the Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces flag The flag of the Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces is a 1:2 horizontal tetracolor of red, black, white, and green. The flag can be seen in a quite few on-line photos of the President settings, alongside the national flag. |
Lying and deceit often destroy people's reputations or alienate people, not just in families, but also on the job, at school, and in our religious places. When people find out others have lied to them or about them, they are often hurt and angry. Often lies and slander are used to destroy the credibility and reputation of an innocent or godly person. False accusations and lies are a standard means of persecution, intended to intimidate an individual or group to compromise the truth or to discredit their influence. “Digital platforms are failing to assume their responsibility is for the dissemination of lies,” says Abubakar Musa, a lawyer who specializes in social media. “These companies don’t have legal representation in the country and even if they do, you send them a certified letter and they don’t respond to you. It is impossible for them to filter everything, but if you raise a complaint, they should put forward a solution.” Fatima Muazu, a lawyer specializing in new technology, says the failure of both corporations and small website owners to quickly respond to complaints is a big problem. “Sometimes they take so long to respond that the damage has become enormous and you have to go to court to ask for compensation,” she explains. Some of the clients of Wale Adekoya, an expert in e-marketing explained to me some times ago at a seminar that many people are so traumatized by the damage an unfounded rumor has caused them that, out of fear of reviving the issue, they don’t even want to publish the court decision that shows that what was being said wasn’t true. “They think no one would believe them.” This is the same experience with many victims of rape in Nigeria. Around 44% of Nigerians receive between one and five unfounded rumors online a week, according to the latest report by an Abuja based communication consultancy agency Insight. The report found that 31% of people believe them to be true. When we speak about fake news we should broaden the term. Everyone is at risk. These types of falsehoods have always been around, but now they are spread immediately and on a massive scale. The BBC detailed how deceitful posts spread on social media especially Facebook have stoked ethnic hatred, which led to multiple deaths. The situation has gotten so bad in one area of the country, Plateau state. That authority has had to resort to a surprising solution for the 21st century. On 23 June 2018, a series of horrifying images began to circulate on Facebook. The BBC reported this story in English and Hausa because of the severity of the consequences of the stories. One showed a baby with open machete wounds across his head and jaw. Another – viewed more than 11,000 times – showed a man’s skull hacked open. There were pictures of homes burnt to the ground, bloodied corpses dumped in mass graves, and children murdered in their beds. The Facebook users who posted the images claimed they showed a massacre underway in the Gashish district of Plateau State, Nigeria. Fulani Muslims, they said, were killing Christians from the region’s Berom ethnic minority. A massacre did happen in Gashish that weekend. Somewhere between 86 and 238 Berom people were killed between 22 and 24 June, according to estimates made by the police and by local community leaders. But some of the most incendiary images circulating at the time had nothing to do with the violence in Gashish. The image of the baby, which was shared with a call for God to “wipe out the entire generation of the killers of this innocent child”, first appeared on Facebook months earlier. The video in which the man’s head was cut open did not even come from Nigeria it was recorded in Congo-Brazzaville nearly a thousand miles away, in 2012. But the truth didn’t matter. The images landed in the Facebook feeds of young Berom men in the city of Jos, hours to the north of the rural district where the massacre was happening. Some of the Facebook posts suggested that the killings were happening right there in Jos, or that the inhabitants of the city were about to be attacked. Few stopped to question the claims, or to check the origin of the graphic pictures that were spreading from phone to phone. “As soon as we saw those images, we wanted to just strangle any Fulani man standing next to us,” one Berom youth leader told the BBC. “Who would not, if they saw their brother being killed?” The images helped to ignite a blaze of fear, anger, and calls for retribution against the Fulani – a blaze that was about to engulf a husband and father called Alhaji Ali Muhammed. Ali was a potato seller from Jos, a city of around a million people. On 24 June he went to a town called Mangu to meet some customers. It was a journey he’d made hundreds of times. He left shortly after morning prayers and expected to be back in time for dinner with his wives Umma and Amina and his 15 children. On his way home in a shared taxi, Ali found the road blocked by a wall of burning tyres. A mob of Berom men armed with knives and machetes were interrogating drivers, looking for Fulani Muslims. Ali was dragged from his car along with another male passenger. His charred remains were found three days later near the edge of the Jos-Abuja highway. His body was so badly mutilated his wives refused to see it. Ali was one of 11 men who were pulled out of their cars and killed on 24 June. Some were set alight. Others were hacked to death with machetes. Days later, their bodies were still being discovered across the city, dumped in ditches, behind houses and along the roadsides. Many were burnt beyond recognition. Hostility between the Fulani and the Berom predates the rise of Facebook. But the police and the army in Plateau State are convinced that the graphic imagery and misinformation circulating on the platform on 23 June and 24 June contributed to the reprisals. “It was the pictures, the supposed pictures that emanated from the attack [in Gashish],” said Tyopev Terna Matthias, public relations officer for the Plateau State police. “Jos South was not under attack. But because of those images they saw, the next day, roads were blocked. People died. Vehicles were burned. So many people died.” It was not the first time Matthias had seen incendiary posts on social media followed by violence in the towns and villages of Plateau State. “Fake news on Facebook is killing people,” he said. Because of those images roads were blocked. People died. Fake news on Facebook is killing people. Tyopev Terna Matthias, public relations officer at the Plateau State police In the US, Asia, and Europe, Facebook has come under intense scrutiny for its role in the circulation of “fake news”. But what happens when viral misinformation is allowed to spread through areas of Africa that are already in the midst of ethnic violence? And what is Facebook doing to ensure its platform is not being used to disseminate lies, spread fear, and foment hatred in Nigeria’s troubled heartland? One Army officer even said that his team had set up a hotline for locals to report misinformation, and that the army is now using radio broadcasts to debunk false stories. Meanwhile, police officers have had to use their personal Facebook accounts to help to expose rumours, but the scale of this is apparently overwhelming. A recent news report caught my attention and some things just did not seem right to me. On close scrutiny, I could see a hatchet job being done and a “pull him down syndrome” at play. While Nigeria’s image in the international community keeps getting battered I am particularly interested in hearing and sharing stories of Nigerians doing exploits in the Diaspora. These news headlines prompted me to take a closer look. Fake news and smear campaign was written all over the story which totally lacked any merit. Serving General Arrested as US Authorities Uncover $16m in ... Army General Arrested For N12 billion NDDC Contract Scam ... Army detains general over $16m in wife's account U.S Govt arrests top-ranked Nigeria Soldier over unexplained ... Army Arrests General After $16m Was Found In His ... I did some investigation and made some contacts that got in touch with authorities in the USA and the wife was not arrested nor investigated. In fact, she has less than four digits in her account. From what I have read about this man, he is a very brilliant officer who was the best overall at the Army War College, USA three years ago. Some of the prominent servicemen who had gone through USAWC in the past were President Muhammadu Buhari, Collin Powell, Dwight Eisenhower, George Patton and Norman Schwarzkopf. The said General who was seconded to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), was brought again to public glare with a story that alleged that American authorities found about $16 million in his wife’s account and they wondered how she could amass such wealth, invited her for questioning but there was nothing to explain the millions of dollars in her account and they got across to their Nigerian counterparts who invited Charles Nengite. Obviously reading through and following the story one could see that this story is another fake story aimed at bringing this Niger Delta son and, a proud Nigerian asset to disrepute. Whoever follows how the US authorities operate will realize that these allegations are actually baseless, and too shallow. This is reminiscent of some accusations against some leaders before the 2015 elections. I got to discover that the said General was seconded to the NDDC in 2018 and not 2016 as alleged. He is serving his father land as a true patriot that he is, and his wife who was accused earlier, is right there in the United States as a student, pursuing her post-graduate studies, and the stories about her arrest were false. As the news first broke my mind could not fathom how it is that we would want to bring down one of our best for anything whatsoever. I feel obliged to put down my avid support for a patriot at this period when we remember our fallen heroes. This also means showing tremendous love and respect for our men in uniform. Oh you, who believe, uphold justice and bear witness to God, even if it is against yourselves, your parents, or your close relatives. Whether the person is rich or poor, God can best take care of both. Refrain from following your own desire, so that you can act justly- if you distort or neglect justice, God is fully aware of what you do. - Qur’an 4:135 The Qur’anic verse have been one that first came to my mind when the fake story recently broke in some section of the media. After reading through the piece of news over and over again it was very easy to see that this is nothing but fake news aimed at tarnishing the image of an individual for some sinister purpose. Being someone who has been following this man’s story for about 2 years now, it really irked me to see another smear campaign targeted at him. This was reminiscent of recent fake news where it was alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari married a second wife with pictures and videos flying all over the internet. Alas, it was discovered to be a lie. The young man who cooked up such story was eventually arrested somewhere in Kano. This same General was alleged by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to have rigged the 2019 elections for President Buhari in Akwa Ibom in various blogs, and this prompted the Army to investigate it and he was cleared of any wrong doing. This information can be found on the Army’s website. A man with such stellar record and indeed a pride to Nigeria should be one that is celebrated and not pulled down with smear campaigns. I call on all Nigerians to learn more about this officer and gentleman and make him an icon of pride through success. At this time in our history we need more Charles Nengites to emerge and restore our fading image. Obviously, the smear campaign against this General is the handiwork of some detractors envious of the excellent profile of this General. Hence they resort to the use of fake stories. We have seen how people just wake up one day and cook up fake stories and share on WhatsApp to friends and groups. Nengite is just the latest victim of fake news, a phenomenon – more commonly associated with election campaigns and geopolitical intrigue – that is now affecting everyday lives. From the teachers falsely accused of being child abusers in parents WhatsApp groups and forced to leave their schools, to the women who are made out to look like prostitutes after their angry exes register them on sex sites, fake news is no longer a problem that just affects the political elite. It is also widely used in the work place, even among jealous colleagues or acquaintances. For me, it’s Nigeria first, and this officer made Nigeria proud. I call on you compatriots, to not let this young patriot down. He, in my opinion deserves a national honour and, it is my utmost prayer that the President decorates this man soon. |

@ WilyWily: I take an exception to you calling all Muslims terrorists. It is really very bad of you to say that. If you don't understand what the issue is and make meaningful contribution I bet it is better you don't say anything at all. You saw a terrorist act recently in Norway, is that by Muslims? I could go on and on about terrorist acts done by Christians and Jews but NO I won't go down that lane. Are you aware of terrorist acts in Ireland and Spain? If you go through history you will be amazed at what you will find out. On Gani Adams utterances, I wonder what gave him the audacity to comment on issues of national importance. He is been a leader of a deadly group like Boko Haram and was involved in the killing of many people in Lagos and South West. The US is not God and so we should not work towards bringing the prophecy of enemies of this country to pass. Nigeria is greater than anyone, group of persons, tribe or religion. |
It is very unfortunate the sort of people we have as leaders in this country. The first time I heard the Christian Association of Nigeria's President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor ranting and issuing threats over the issue of Islamic Banking I knew he was totally ignorant of the whole issue. I only expected him to have made research on the issue and get to have full info before blabbing. Dr. Datti Ahmed is a senile old man who has nothing good to bring out of his mouth. This is the second time he is goofing on issues of National importance. He it was who almost derailed the issue of Polio Vaccines in the North. He is on his own and he does not speak for millions of Muslims in the North. Nobody made him a spokesman. There are organisations of Muslims and the North and all have come out to condemn his unguarded utterances. I believe Nigeria is a secular state and Nigerians have the right to religion, association and free speech. If Islamic Banking comes I don't think any one will force anyone to bank there. It will be a matter of choice. You have the right to choose from the available choice of banks. |
hinduism:@hinduism Who the hell do you think you are trying to bring religious bias into our discussion here. Your brained must have had too much weed. You must be an ethnic chauvinist we don't need people like you here. Take your tribalistic and racist rantings somewhere else. We only listen to voices of good reasoning here. Is Ribadu not a Muslim? Is Balogun not a muslim? is Atiku not a muslim? is Saminu Turaki not a Muslim? What the hell are you talking about? What has religion got to do with what we are discussing here? Please stop all that nonsense. |
Will Anyone Dare to Ask Why? America has a very big problem. We experienced the shock of the most spectacular and deadly terror attack in modern history. In an almost surreal scene from a Hollywood movie, on September 11, 2001 hijacked passenger planes crashed directly into the New York World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington. Thousands of Americans were maimed and killed. The costs might even go over the one trillion dollar mark, and the event may even trigger worldwide economic depression. These terrible acts of terrorism must be fought with every ounce of American resolve. And those who commit such heinous acts must be punished to the fullest severity of the law. No such acts must ever be permitted on American soil. That being said, how then do we then protect ourselves from terror in the future? Because of increased scientific knowledge around the world, the next terror could be far more deadly than what happened on September 11. The next horrific occurrence might not even entail an explosion of any kind, but the silent mass death of a biological or radiation attack. The bad news is that no matter how many billions of dollars the government spends or how many bombs it drops, it is impossible to completely protect ourselves from these great dangers. In fact, the more bomb-dropping and devastation we do, the more likely a future terroristic response. We have moved into an era in which even sheer military might is no protection. No longer can strong nations attack weak ones with impunity. The tiniest nation or political entity can easily revenge itself with mass terror. No nation is invulnerable, not even the strongest nation on earth. Unless we understand the why of these terroristic acts, the motivation behind them, we can not prevent a repeat of such terrorism in the future. We Americans must ask ourselves why we now suffer such terror. When a clock stops, we ask why. Is it not plugged in? Is the battery dead? Is it broken? If so, why is it broken? When you have a problem, if you don’t ask why and get some good answers and act on them, it will persist. It may well even become a lot worse. The American mass media has provided us in living color the gory details of this bloody attack on the American people. They have even told us who might be behind it, but the Zionist-dominated media so far have carefully avoided giving an understandable reason why the attack took place. Flyers from the UN Conference on Racism just prior to Tuesday’s attack. Calling the attackers “cowards” is, of course, untrue. The terrorists committed an indescribably horrible and ruthless act against the American people, but certainly they are not cowards. Kamikazes may be misguided, but sacrificing one’s own life for a cause is not cowardice. And calling the perpetrators cowards or madmen doesn’t answer the question of why these horrendous acts occurred, unless one thinks every coward and madman wants to blow up the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Those descriptions prevent people from discovering the reasons why the event actually occurred. And, if we want to prevent such occurrences from happening in the future, it is absolutely vital that to understand “why.” Maybe a good first question to ask is why these “crazy,” “cowardly,” Arabs never attack Switzerland or Sweden? What could it be that those countries do or don’t do that causes them to be ignored while we are targeted. Let me be very, very blunt. The ultimate cause of this terrorism stems directly from the US' involvement in and support of the criminal behavior of Israel. Terror in response to Terror The Palestinians and many of their Arab allies have been the target of a half century of unrelenting Israeli terrorism. In the late 1940s the Zionists took over Palestine and drove out 700,000 people from their homes through widespread acts of terrorism. Among those events was the sadistic massacre of 254 Palestinian mostly old men, women and children at Deir Yassin. It was an especially vicious, cold-blooded massacre characterized by Jews cutting apart the bellies of pregnant women. 1 After the bloodletting, the murderers then purposely publicized the event so as to make the people flee in panic from their homes and businesses from which they still haven’t been allowed to return. Former Israel Prime Minister, Menachem Begin, a participant in this horrendous massacre, boasted of the importance of Deir Yassin in his book The Revolt: The Story of the Irgun. He wrote that there would not have been a State of Israel without the “victory” of Deir Yassin. “The Haganah carried out victorious attacks on other fronts… In a state of terror, the Arabs fled, crying, ‘Deir Yassin. 2″ Nor did the massacres cease after the establishment of the Jewish State; they continued in times of both peace and war. Following are the names of some of them: Sharafat Massacre, Kibya Massacre, Kafr Qasem Massacre, Al-Sammou’ Massacre, the Sabra And Shatila Massacre, Oyon Qara Massacre, Al-Aqsa Mosque Massacre, the Ibrahimi Mosque Massacre, the Jabalia Massacre. 3 In a policy of ethnic cleansing, Israel continues to keep residents of Palestine who were born there and whose families lived there for countless generations, from returning home. At the same time, it gives generous incentives for genetic Jews who never lived in Palestine to immigrate from the far corners of the world. The British also suffered greatly from Israeli terror, such as the horrendous bombing of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem. Israeli terror has not stopped since. Israel has more prisoners per capita than any other nation of the world, more than Stalinist Russia, or Red China during its worst periods. It routinely tortures its Palestinian prisoners, and is in fact the only nation in the modern world that legally sanctions torture. In fact, a Jewish human rights group in Israel confirmed in a 60 page report that 85% of Palestinian detainees undergo torture while in custody. 4 Even a major New York Times article by the Jewish Joel Greenburg, stated matter-of-factly that Israel tortures 500 to 600 Palestinians every month. 5 Former Jewish Secretary of State Madeleine Albright called the death of 500,000 Iraqi children from starvation due to UN sanctions, “acceptable.” Israel has targeted and assassinated thousands of Palestinian leaders, and this includes scholars, clerics, businessmen, philosophers and poets, anyone who inspires the Palestinian people to patriotism. These assassinations have occurred all over the world, even in the United States. In the process they have killed many thousands of women and children. They have even repeatedly bombed Palestinian refugee camps packed with women and children. Not only did they establish their Israeli state over Palestinian land, (in 1948 Palestinians personally owned over 90 percent of it) the Jews took almost all of the Palestinian personal property: the land, farms, homes and businesses. After they drove out the Palestinian refugees and refused their return, they then passed an “abandoned property” law that confiscated Palestinian property and gave to the Jews. The law even has the chutzpah to forbid ever selling any of their stolen land to Palestinians. 6 In 1982 Israel invaded Lebanon. During their invasion and 18 year occupation an estimated 40,000 civilians died. Israel relentlessly bombed and attacked cities and villages and also many hospitals and orphanages (as documented by the Norwegian Red Cross) and devastated the ancient and once beautiful city of Beirut. The current Prime Minister of Israel, Ariel Sharon, doesn’t dare even step foot in Belgium or the Netherlands, fearing an indictment of the World Court for war crimes. Sharon is responsible for the murder of two thousand of refugees in the Sabra and Shatila camps in Lebanon. Israel shot down a Libyan passenger airliner over the Sinai Peninsula killing 111 people. And it is has not just been the Palestinians who have suffered from Israeli terror. Zionist Terror Against the United States Americans have also suffered from Zionist terror. In fact, Israel has committed a number of acts of war against the United States. Israel has a long record of terrorism against the United States going all the way back to 1954. In that year, the Israel government plotted to blow up American installations in Cairo and Alexandria and blame it on Egyptian nationals. By chance the plot failed and was uncovered. It was named the Lavon Affair after the man who supposedly set up the terrorism, Pinhas Lavon, the Israeli Defense Chief. He resigned in 1955 over the incident. 7 In 1967, Israel purposefully attacked with unmarked jet fighters and torpedo boats, the U.S.S. Liberty, an American Navy vessel of the Sinai Peninsula, even machine gunning the deployed life rafts of the ship. The attack killed 31 American servicemen and wounded over 170. 8 They sought to sink the ship, kill all the Americans and blame it on the Egyptians so they could have American support to conquer larger areas of the Arab world. The attack on the Liberty was nothing short of a vicious act of war against the United States by Israel. In spite of the fact that U.S. Secretary of State Dean Rusk and navy chief Admiral Moorer said that the attack on the USS Liberty by Israel was deliberate, the all-powerful Zionist Lobby prevented a formal Congressional investigation. If the Lobby can even cover up horrendous Israeli crimes against America, it’s no wonder they can cover up Israel’s endless crimes against the Palestinians. Yet, after the Liberty attack America didn’t even reduce our billions of dollars of aid, in fact the story quickly vanished from the news after a few short days. In 1986 Israel actually caused the US to wrongly go to war and militarily attack another nation. The Mossad planted a transmitter in Tripoli, Libya and then broadcast terrorist messages in Libyan code indicating Libyan responsibility for killing two Americans in the bombing of the La Belle discothue in Germany. 9 (It was later proven that Libya had nothing to do with the bombing) By use of this fraud, Israel induced the American bombing of Libya. American bombs wrecked havoc there. One of those killed was the infant daughter of the Libyan President. It is certainly a dastardly act of war against a nation to induce it into wrongly attacking another nation. Only a truly evil enemy of America would do such a thing. Every Palestinian and Arab is aware that Israel’s half century of terror could never have occurred without the active financial, military, and diplomatic support of the United States. They know that the Jewish Lobby has control of American Mideast Policy and the Zionists can get whatever they want from Congress on issues important to them. It was American support of Israel’s brutal invasion and occupation of Lebanon in the 1980s that led directly to the bombing of the U.S. Marine contingent, killing 300 American young men. The Involvement of America in Israeli Crimes Arabs know that almost every bomb that kills their people comes from America, Every bullet, every tank, every fighter plane, is manufactured or paid for by American dollars. It is America’s billions of dollars of support that have enabled the Jewish state to terrorize the Arab people for half a century. Even though Israel invaded Lebanon and killed thousands of civilians, America never threatened to bomb Tel Aviv (as it did Iraq) if Israel refused to obey UN resolutions to withdraw. A comparison of America’s reaction to Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait to that of Israel’s invasion of Lebanon is instructive. America’s one-sided policy foreign policy can be illustrated by the different treatment afforded Israel and Iraq. Iraq invaded Kuwait. Israel invaded Lebanon. Perhaps 3000 Kuwait civilians died in the initial war with Iraq. 40,000 Lebanese died from the time of the invasion through the occupation. Iraq disobeyed UN resolutions to leave Kuwait. Israel disobeyed UN resolutions to leave Lebanon. (for 18 years) Iraq broke international conventions on chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. Yet Israel is a far greater offender, having one of the greatest stores of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons in the world Iraq refused UN inspections. Israel has always refused UN inspection. For these violations we bombed Iraq. In response to Israel’s crimes, America just continued to send more billions of dollars. American foreign policy was and continues to be Israeli policy. Israel was not threatened with even a cutoff of U.S. aid as thousands of Lebanese civilians died from the Israeli actions. Iraq was once a friend of America with whom we bought oil and did much business. America actually supported Saddam Hussein and Iraq’s war with Iran. Iraq did nothing against the United States, but it made the mistake of becoming a strong enemy of Israel. So the Jewish and the Jewish-controlled gentile bureaucrats, and Jewish-dominated media quickly made our former friend, Saddam Hussein, into our archenemy. What is left of the USS Liberty after the Israeli military attacked it on June 8, 1967. Thirty four US soldiers lost their lives. We dropped more explosives on Iraq in a few weeks than we had in the whole of the Second World War. We killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis including tens of thousands of civilians. Then we engaged in a blockade and embargo of Iraq that even the anti-Iraq United Nations says led to the deaths of at least 1,200,000 children and hundreds of thousands of elderly. Let those Americans who don’t understand the why of this terrorism concentrate on this shocking fact. One million, two hundred thousand children have died as a direct result of our policy toward Iraq. Some Americans reading my words will refuse to believe it, they will refuse to believe that America has purposely caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of children. Here is the transcript of the interview of America’s Jewish Secretary of State with Leslie Stahl of CBS on May 11, 1996: Lesley Stahl, speaking of US sanctions against Iraq: “We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And — and you know, is the price worth it?” Madeline Albright: “I think this is a very hard choice, but the price — we think the price is worth it.” And some Americans wonder why we are so hated. The Jewish Lobby and the Jewish-dominated media are very careful not to let the American people fully understand the real reason for the Iraqi war or the true issues in the Palestinian question. They really don’t want Americans to know why so many millions in the Arab world hate us and why the number grows larger every day. They don’t want us to know the real reasons why Americans are so hated — because it is the Jewish bosses of American foreign policy who are the one’s responsible for this growing hatred of America. Imagine the anger and feelings of despair that would drive men to sacrifice their own lives to get at us. The Zionist bosses know that by America’s supporting the criminal policies of Israel spawns hatred against America. They are certainly aware that bombing and going to war against nations solely for Israel’s benefit creates dedicated and fanatical enemies against America, enemies who will seek revenge in American blood. Of course, it is not in America’s interest to go and kill people for Israel; but Jewish interests are always paramount. In actuality, they are fully aware that the brutal and stupid acts of terror that recently happened in New York and Washington only help the Zionist cause by engendering enormous American anger at Israeli enemies, and make Americans more easily manipulated to do the bidding of Israel. Think about who really gained from this terror. Have the Palestinians benefited? This terrorist act destroyed all the progress the Palestinians have recently made with world opinion. It has blinded the world to Israeli terrorism. Israel is the only winner in this tragedy. They will now have a green light to do anything they want against the Palestinians. They can kill any of their foes whether they are violent or non-violent. They will get all the money they want from the American people, and no one will be thinking about their on-going suppression, murder and human rights violations against the Palestinian people. No, the Zionists are the only benefactors of the horrendous day of terror on September 11, 2001. Ironic isn’t it, that although Zionist criminal actions led to this terror, only the Zionists will benefit from it. Of course, the reason they benefit because the American mass media is completely in their hands 10 and it will never ask the proper questions of why these horrendous events are happening. Unfortunately, too few people will ever hear voices such as mine who dare to challenge the Zionist lies. That’s why we are in this mess, because a foreign power has become the most powerful lobby in the American government and controls the direction of the mass communication media in America. Let me repeat that one more time. The primary reason we are suffering from terrorism in the United States today is because our government policy is completely subordinated to a foreign power: Israel and the efforts of worldwide Jewish Supremacism. American Flags are flying everywhere in America in the aftermath of the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. That is good, for we need to be more patriotic. If we were more patriotic for the real interests of America rather than for Israel, we would not now suffer from terrorism. And truly, what could be more patriotic than wanting our own country to be led by our own people in the service of America; not a foreign power or a powerful minority. Yes, we must fight tooth and nail against any terrorists who attack our country. But, we must understand why this terror is occurring, and how it has been spawned. It has occurred because of long-standing treason against the United States and her people. What has Zionism cost the American People? The Jewish Lobby and media power has cost the United States about 6 billion dollars a year in foreign aid and weapons, almost one third of America’s entire foreign aid budget during the last half century and as much money spent in America’s drug war. It has poisoned our relations with the oil-rich Mideast nations. In response to our policies, the Arabs came together and developed their “oil weapon” which has cost Americans at least ten at least ten trillion dollars in higher oil costs. It has alienated the entire Arab world, leading to destruction or confiscation of billions of dollars of American property in those countries, kidnapping of American citizens, and generated enormous hatred for the American people. How has Israel has paid us back for our support? They have continually spied on us on us (the Jonathan Pollard Case), sold our highest secrets (such as to the biggest nuclear threat to us currently in the world: the Communist Chinese) 11 and stolen our enriched uranium for their illegal nuclear weapons. 12 A Palestinian family sits on the rubble of their home after it was attacked by Israeli bulldozers and tanks at Bait Hanoun north of the Gaza Strip September 15, 2001 They have launched terrorist attacks against the United States such as the Lavon Affair and the Attack on the USS Liberty. Both these acts were nothing short of vicious acts of war against the United States. Providing false information for America to wrongly go to war against another country is also nothing less than an Israeli act of war against the United States. Yet, in response to these despicable actions against America, our Zionist controlled leaders did not even reduce our billions of dollars of financial and military aid to Israel. We give Israel about 6 billion dollars in aid each year, that is more than all the nations of Sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean and South America. What is the latest cost of our subservience to the criminal actions of Zionism? The latest price we have paid is the horrendous acts of terrorism on September 11, 2001. The powerful agents of Israel in American media and government are ultimately responsible for this terror against the United States just as surely as if they themselves had piloted those planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. And now they cynically plan to use the terror that they themselves created inspired the cycle of violence against Israel’s enemies. You can be sure that the Zionist powers plan to do far more than simply punish the perpetrators of these events. America will once again be used to strike against whoever Israel wants. An indiscriminate or intemperate response from America would ultimately produce even more hatred against America, and bring more terroristic acts upon the heads of American people. The increasing cycle of hatred is exactly want the Zionists want, for their aim is that we will fight Israel’s enemies for them, spilling our blood instead of theirs. They are only ones who truly benefit from America’s pain. Rather than Israel, we will pay the ultimate price. Fighting Terrorism with Terrorism Many in the American media and government are screaming for mass destruction against America’s newly perceived enemies. Recent opinion polls (CBS and CNN) show that 60 to 75 percent of the American people endorse warfare against suspected terrorists. They support these actions (and I quote the poll question precisely) “even if it causes the deaths of thousands of innocent people.” It hurts my heart to think that a vast majority of the American people take exactly the same view toward innocent human life as did the terrorists of September 11. So far, I have heard no one, not one of the great moral media pontificators, the President of the United States, our church leaders, or anyone else of prominence who is brave enough to point out this blatant moral hypocrisy. So we are now going to fight terrorism. So what happens when America goes out and bombs the hell out of countries and indiscriminately kills “thousands of innocent people.” Will we really end the threat of terrorism? America has done the same thing before. Let’s take a look at how it has worked out for us. As pointed out earlier, in 1986 the Israelis gave America false evidence against Libya and induced us to bomb the hell out of the country. We bombed a nation to “fight terrorism” for a crime it did not even commit. A year after our bombing, a few members of a radical group in Libya sought revenge and bombed Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, causing one of the worst air disasters of all time, killing 270. We exact our revenge with B-1 bombers; they do it through suicide bombers. There is no way to completely protect ourselves from those kinds of acts. Even one fanatic person, if he are willing to commit suicide, they can easily cause a plane to crash with a minimal amount of (non-detectible) explosives. We live in an era in which deadly biological agents of mass destruction can be made in anyone’s basement. America must take heed; the next terroristic act can be committed by just one person and kill hundreds of thousands of people. The exercise of brute military force can no longer protect any nation. Does anyone remember America’s last “attack on terrorism?” Clinton promised to wage a “war on terrorism” by bombing Afghanistan and by bombing a pharmaceutical complex in the Sudan. These attacks were cynically launched by Clinton during critical days of the Monica Lewinsky scandal. They failed to kill Bin Laden, but they caused the Taliban to vow bloody revenge against America for the death and destruction in his country. The events of September 11 may be a direct result of that “war on terrorism.” Let me repeat, we send our B1 bombers and they send their suicide bombers. And now, unless cooler head prevail, we are ready to embark on another war on terrorism that may kill thousands of innocent people and escalate the cycle of violence. Heal the Wounds and Put the well-being of America First Unless we heal the wounds and give America a better course, every new missile and bomb we send will come back to us again. Every drop of blood we spill in foreign lands will result in more American blood lost here and abroad. America will sink more and more into uncertainty and fear. After the events of September 11, a father who lost his daughter in the Lockerbie plane crash, John Mosey, wrote to British Prime Minister Tony Blair. He pointed out that the 270 who died in the 1988 bombing were killed in reprisal for “aggressive” US policies in the Arab world. He went on to caution, “The utmost care must be taken that whatever path is eventually pursued is successful and does not harm innocent people, thus producing another batch of terrorists.” 13 We must have cool heads now and break this cycle of violence. Let us pray for the American victims of these events and for their suffering families. Let us go after the perpetrators of these dastardly acts with absolute precision. But, even more importantly, let us understand why these events occurred and how we can heal the hatred against our nation. Many traitors in our government have supported Zionism’s criminal activities rather than the true interests of the American people. They have spawned the hatred that drove these terrible acts. Unless their power is broken Americans will be haunted by an increasing specter of terrorism. Once we understand the reason why, then we will all agree on the sure way to prevent such terroristic acts in the future. The solution to this huge problem is extremely obvious and it is very simple. America must heed the farewell address of the Father of our Country and “avoid foreign entanglements.” Finally, we must always put America and the American People first. There was a phoney election, that brought in a phoney President (Bush), that gave phoney reasons, to take the US into a phoney war. |
abeeg ooooooooooo Somebody please wake me up.Are we talking sense at all. Imagine the Nigeria Police that is the number one anti social organization in Nigeria calling someone an undisciplined officer. Police that beats people anyhow and even tagged an innocent woman as the ringleader of a robbery gang. hmmmmmm Na Wah OOOO. Just watch what will happen in a few weeks or days. I weep for Nigeria. Anyways, Ribadu should be lucky to leave the system. He has tried his best and his best is not wanted by a nation of corrupt people. Bet those that appreciate his work and have power will pick him up to better positions. The UN is watching. NO wonder instead of Waziri arresting people she is busy sponsoring adverts begin Nigerians to stop corruption. hahahahaha. EFCC will become like ICPC. A toothless bulldog. No that is being modest. EFCC will become a mouthless dog. |
A NUMBER of events this past week compels us to make testimonies and draw some lessons, and perhaps further highlight the condition of Nigeria as a corporate and sovereign entity. Three of those events come to mind particularly because of three parallel situations that currently confront Nigeria that highlight the state of affairs in Nigeria, and further emphasize Nigeria’s national struggles with political corruption and misdirection. The first is the unfolding drama around Illinois governor, Blagojevich, who has come under federal investigations for corruption charges. The second is the just concluded elections in Ghana, our neighbouring West African state. The third is the dismissal by the constitutional court of Thailand of the government in Bangkok last week following sustained protests by anti-government activists who closed down the international airport. Let me begin with a specific context. Two weeks ago in Chicago, Federal agents from the FBI arrested the Illinois governor, Rod Blagojevich, and his chief of staff, John Harris on federal corruption charges, alleging that the governor and his accomplices sought to (a) benefit financially by using his constitutional privilege from his position as governor of Illinois to sell the replacement of Barak Obama’s now vacant junior senate seat to the highest bidder; (b) to compel the Tribune company, publishers of the Chicago Tribune newspapers to sack some key members of the paper’s editorial board who have been very critical of Blagojevich in exchange for support over sale connected to the Wrigley Field. The charges were announced by Patrick Fitzgerald, the United States attorney for the northern district of Illinois, and by the Robert. D. Grant, chief agent of the FBI in charge of its office of Investigations in Chicago. The governor and his chief of staff appeared before the Magistrate Nan Nolan in a court in down town Chicago, and where they entered a plea, and were released on their personal recognition. The arrest of the governor is a culmination of a broad or wide-ranging investigation of the governor, including wire tapping, over allegations of corruption. The investigations continue, and have included verifications on whether the president elect, Barak Obama or his staff made any unseemly contact with the governor over the senate-seat-for-sale incident. But it has also focused on the possibility that Jesse Jackson jr., currently a member of the US House of Representative may have made financial offers to the governor. This, of course, would have serious consequences. The Blagojevich incident is not an isolated situation: it comes in a week in which Charlie Rangel, ranking Democrat and chair of the very influential Ways and Means committee of the US House of Representative faces increasing ethics questions over some allegations that he used his influence, specifically that he solicited donors for funds for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at the City University New York, using congressional letter heads, and tax evasion questions from what the papers here are calling “sweetheart deals” over his apartment in New York, and for failing to highlight income from his beach house property in the Dominican Republic. Earlier in October, highly respected octogenarian Republican Senator from Alaska Ted Stevens was indicted on federal charges of corruption for allegedly benefiting from campaign contributions and gifts from oil companies in a landmark conflict of interest scenario that allegedly compromised his position as a Senator of the United States. He was defeated in this last election as a result, and will face trials. Only last Thursday, Wall Street denizen, Bernard Madoff who Reuters described as “a quiet force on Wall Street” was arrested and charged for a $50 billion scam. Madoff, 70, former chairman of the Nasdaq stock exchange was charged for what he himself has called a “ponzi scheme”- a great 419 which is really what these hedge funds on Wall Street are all about. Now, I provide these foregrounds simply to show that there is great political, moral, and financial corruption everywhere in the world, perhaps most of all in America. But the difference is that those who break the laws of the state pay for it, irrespective of status or calling. There is consequence. There is only selective consequence against those who subvert the laws of the Nigerian state- it is the selective force of evolution: the survival of the fittest. So, the Nigerian state is particularly Hobessian. Corruption is not unique to Nigeria, nor are we likely to contain it merely by preachment. The problem with Nigeria is the impunity of the state. The lack of sanction, or the enforcement of sanction, against those who subvert the state. Nigeria’s tolerant institutions greatly compromise the integrity and indeed the national security of the Nigerian state. That is why no one will be arrested for masterminding violence, religious and ethnic cleansing when it erupts in Jos or Kano; the shield of nepotism covers those who subvert the laws of the state, either because they carry fatuous titles like “his excellency” or “his eminence;” a former inspector general of police murders his steward or what we call his “houseboy” for stealing his “hard currency” in the 1980s; nothing happens to him; nothing has happened to him; he is not only rewarded with further state responsibility, he is called upon to talk about new ways of policing and law enforcement; the life of his “house boy” is expendable by the illogic of the kind of society that justifies impunity merely because those who carry out or condone impunity by the privileges of their public positions above the law that establishes the state or the nation. A governor of the state loots, through his proxies, the treasury of the state, he comes under the protection of his peers, and nothing happens to him. Ribadu goes after him, and becomes a marked man. The lesson is acute: even the state does not respect its own laws. This has not only bred the fundamental distrust of the laws and the nature of the state by the citizens of Nigeria who not only feel that the Nigerian state does not exist to guarantee their citizenship but that they are under compulsion to exist within it. Imagine also, that the Nigerian Supreme court, or its entire justice system has the courage of the Constitutional Court of Thailand. But it frequently does not. The problem in the quality of justice has been placed by some on the quality of judges that have been selected to occupy the Bench in recent years. There are no more men of fibre in the mould of Louis Mbanefo or Ademola on the high bench. Imagine also, that Nigerian protesters lock down the international Airports in Lagos or Abuja in protest. The police will not only shoot to kill, they will brag about this publicly, as Obasanjo’s regime clearly showed when it sent military personnel to Odi and Zaki Biam to kill and teach protesting citizens a lesson (Although I don't like the way the Zaki Biam and Odi people killed our soldiers on peace keeping). Last week in Greece citizens went on rampage over police killing of a 15-year-old boy. Public outrage of that magnitude did not compel either the Thai government or the government in Greece to unleash state terror on its citizens. But the brutal streak in the Nigerian public leadership is often of the psychotic dimension. There is no respect for Nigeria or its citizens. The assumption of public office, often unregulated by law, seems to endow the Nigerian public servant with what they see as the power of God. I am drawn to Tony Momoh’s critique of Dr. Sam Egwu’s senate ministerial hearing of about three weeks ago. Take this example: former Governor Sam Egwu of Ebonyi State, brags before the Senate committee invigilating his candidacy for a ministerial position, about how he distributed electoral materials; how he single-handedly decided who or not to allocate electoral materials in his state. It is a scandalous confession that in point of fact hints at treason: yes indeed, for at the foundations of the electoral process is the integrity and security of state. Sam Egwu’s confession of electoral crime, either goes below the radar of news reporters in the Senate hearing, or fails to register its implication. |
@aus123 thetruth90 aus123:Hear your self rant here. You should be ashamed of yourself. Do we need to overflog the issue? Can't you see that Ribadu's travails is not about his promotion but the war against corruption? Let's not be myopic and blinded to the truth. The PSC and NPF are all tools of corruption borne out of corruption. Do you remember those you are supporting have jettisoned your future and that of the little kids and unborn children? Yet, you support them. No wonder some people will pay to pass their exams, pay to get jobs and even pay to pray in churches. Their wives also charge them for spending the night. Love in Nigeria is also becoming cash and carry. |
@ jejelolatu, sukieboy and others who are on the part of truth. I agree with your arguments. The truth is if we keep seeing people supporting this evil men by castigating Ribadu then believe me just like Sukiebo said. Nigeria is going down. We are working very hard to becoming a failed state. A Banana Republic, A Kangaroo Nation. A Nation full of talents and well educated people. A nation that is supposed to be the pacesetter for the Black Race. A nation that should lead the way while others follow but now allowing its future to be jettisoned by some idiots claiming he was doubly promoted. I know some people will soon start arguing that Obama does not deserve to be US President. Small wonder, when Dora Akunyili was attacked by a Senator during her screening, He asked why have you not been fighting Drug Dealers? (He wants to imply that she has been collecting bribe from them). Trust Madam, she gave it to the Senator. She told him that NDLEA is the only organization responsible for Hard Drugs and Drug Dealers. NAFDAC is responsible for illicit drugs and its illict use in the country. While protecting Nigerians from illict drugs. If I am to CHOOSE between TWO EVILs. My choice is MALLAM NUHU RIBADU. I know some people will die for IBB, Ibori, Alams, Saminu Turaki, Atiku and others. |
@ texazzpete Indeed I quite and absolutely agree with you that double promotion should be done on merit and in the right order. I also agree with you that Ribadu too made mistakes by not accepting his fate and move on. I like your objectivity anyway. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Our so called Big Guys have set trap for Ribadu and either way he goes their ultimate aim is to see him humiliated and dismissed by the Police. Anyway, he also unknowingly played into their hands. But Ribadu's work made me proud to be a Nigerian at one time. I could be at any airport in any part of the world and get commendations by foreigners. Nigeria moved up a great deal from the most Corrupt Nation on this planet to the 59th most corrupt. That is Nigeria is number 121 on the Corruption Perceptions Index. To me this is a remarkable feat. http://www.transparency.org/policy_research/surveys_indices/cpi/2008 On April 15, 2008, Nuhu Ribadu received the World Bank's 2008 Jit Gill Memorial Award for Outstanding Public Service, for having led a courageous anticorruption drive in Nigeria, as Head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). |
It is a shame to see some Nigerians write arrant nonsense using the WWW as a cover. To tell you the truth I have for long been expecting this to happen to Ribadu. My reason: 1. Ribadu fought corruption: We all agree that he fought a selective battle for his boss. But tell me who among those he persecuted is innocent of the charges against him. 2. A young man given a job by the C-in-C of a country when there are old hands to do job certainly will not go well with our people who want a continuation of the old order. The young men of this country have been sent a wrong signal not to tamper with the status quo. 3. The Nigerian Police is known to be the most corrupt institution in Nigeria. NO WONDER his travails. Those at the helm of affairs of the Police are dancing to the tune of a corrupt cabal. You know Tafa Balogun boys will stop at nothing to get at Ribadu. Remember, Ehindero was also indicted by the Police authorities. 4. For the first time the international community believed in Nigeria's fight against corruption because it was evident. Ribadu spoke his mind against our corrupt governors. I remember that the mere mention of EFCC or Ribadu sends jitters down the spines of our corrupt officials. In Nigeria, corruption is good, to fight it is evil. As for me let every body fighting corruption do it partially and lets see if it will not end. You fight your corrupt enemies, I fight my corrupt enemies and one way or the other we get rid of the corrupt guys in our society. All the corrupt guys and leaders in Nigeria will now heave a sigh of relief. I can see them jubilating for finally getting the last laugh. You know the corrupt guys supported Yaradua to power especially James Ibori and others. Double pomotion is practised every where. I am not holding brief for Ribadu but I believe anything corruption charges against him should be fought the right way the way he did. I am surprised that some people are critisizing Ribadu for holding Bode George. We know George is responsible for the rot in NPA. Besides most of those he went after are PDP guys. Guys please lets share ideas on the way forward. Is there hope in this country? Can we really forge ahead? I am really tired of all this failed promises. Corruption brings about absolute poverty and lack of development. It is responsible for all the ethno-religious crisis we've been witnessing in this country. It is the cause of the Niger Delta crisis. It is why NEPA is not working. It is why Nigerian sports are not progressing. It is the sole reason why Nigeria is just the Giant of Africa on Paper. It is the reason why our people will celebrate in their churches or mosques upon getting a visa to Europe or even Vietnam. ( I wonder why must you be happy that you are leaving your country). The list is so much. I weep for Nigeria CORRUPTION IS FIGHTING BACK SATAN is using CORRUPTION to hold Nigeria down. |
I have watched with disgust over the past few months, an act which I feel is very unpatriotic, selfish and disturbing. I watched adverts of some Nigerian firms on CNN and I became very disappointed. As a matter of fact, I have decided to distance myself from such firms. You and I know that there is a huge demand for the rebrand of our national identity which has been tarnished over the past few years and yet, some firms are forgetting that fact; instead, they have chosen to promote their firms at the expense of the nation that provided them with the soil and foundation to exist. I have vowed to be accountable in all I do and so I will go ahead and do exactly that. God bless Glomobile for joining millions of Nigerians who are challenged by the fact that this country needs rebranding while promoting their organization. Have you seen their advert on CNN? Well, I feel that you should see it! Listen to this… “The future is coming. This time it is different because it is coming from Nigeria!” - Glomobile This is the part I loved most in the advert; using Nigeria as a base to project a prospective bright future. This is what I call, patriotism. I have watched countries with more terrible situations; give their country huge patriotic branding via adverts on CNN. I have also seen, corporate firms contributing to the huge success of such patriotic branding. I have seen Chaka chaka, the popular South African musician, spear head such effort. Why can’t we have an advert that says, “Incredible Nigeria”, why cant we have our own sights and sounds advert for our dear nation, Nigeria? The adverse effect of the demand for us to redeem our image is huge. I have heard various stories of distrust in Nigerians and this have caused them huge inconvenience. I had once heard the panicking voice of my sister who misplaced her ID card and wanted to receive money via western union money transfer at a great time of distress. By the way, she schools in France and was at that time, 18years of age. She narrated how she had to beg an American to help her receive the cash after being told to her face that the reason why her story was not believed was because she was a Nigerian. These stories I am sure are not new to you. But should the world despise US because of the 10% of Nigerians (or less) who are doing the damage? Should we be judged by this few percentages of us who caused the damage? Our corporate organization need to see themselves first as Nigerians before considering themselves as a member of one organization or the other. We appreciate their efforts in stimulating our economy but we would rather have corporate organizations who truly have the development of Nigeria at heart while doing their business, than some organizations who claim to be global yet, selfish, unpatriotic and insensitive to the developmental need of the Nigerian state. I challenge as many of you (Corporate and public institutions) reading this piece to prove me wrong and join in this noble course of rebranding Nigeria and reawakening the interest of Nigerians in Nigeria by sponsoring a patriotic advert on any international medium as a first step towards achieving the aforementioned goal. Nigerians have accepted you guys, created an enabling environment (though not perfect), patronized and have helped your firms to grow to their current heights, all we could in the least ask of you is support our quest to rebrand our dear nation and save our identity from the shackles of negative branding. We are endowed with people, resources and culture which the world out there needs, let’s showcase them for the world to see. Let’s invite the world to come and see us from a different perspective; a perspective that you and I can be proud of. We are not short of ideas, neither are we short of the resources to embark on this noble course. Therefore, I challenge us all to say, yes we can! To those who say we can’t. I look forward to your participation in this noble course.

Let the truth be told. Nigeria is ours and we love it warts and all. Whoever doesn't like what he or she sees and gets should find a way to contribute his/her own quota to make it good. We have seen so many Nigerian leaders who love to travel abroad, see good things but fail to implement it at home. I am surprise at the level of ignorance of some people posting threads here. How in this age and time when everyone is fighting against racism and nepostism you still find some ethnic bigots in our midst. These people still claim to be educated. @ namun: you and your cohorts keep talking nonsense to muza about northerners. You know that isn't fair. I served in the North and I love it there. I have so many friends who have made their homes in the north. How can you stoop so low. Every tribe in Nigeria and indeed the world have their own merits and demerits. I dare you if you can mention your tribe and let Nairalanders point out the ills of the tribe you belong to. The north consists of over 300 ethnic groups with Hausa as one of them. There are Muslims and Christians. Just recently a friend of mine from Osun state got married to a girl from Jos. An Army officer friend from Gombe State married a girl from Delta State. I really don't want to divert away from the main topic but I just want us to really stop this RACISM in the name of TRIBALISM. This is the same thing Americans fought against by voting OBAMA. I am not here to insult anyone but offer constructive criticism. We need to change. I once wonder why a friend from the southwest went the east to marry a girl and the girl's family told him that his place is too far and how can a Yoruba man marry their daughter and take her away to a distant place like Ogbomoso. And to cap it this young man lives up North in Kano where he works with a New Generation Bank. But couple of years later the same daughter of theirs brought in a German man as her husband and the whole of her family danced and jubilated that their daughter has met with good fortune. No one told the Whitey that his country is racist or is too far away. No one bothers that they can never find it easy interact with the grooms family. It is a fact that the Nigerian family will everly be despised. I am a Nigerian and I really don't care where you come from. That is why ai like Banky W's song, "I Love Naija"

World's Most Expensive Cities In 1998, Moscow was in crisis. More than 100,000 Russians took to the streets as a slew of banks--and the life savings of millions of citizens--went bust. But just a decade later, the global commodities boom has made Russia flush with cash, and Moscow has become a pricey place to live. That's the finding in Mercer's 2008 Worldwide Cost of Living Survey. Moscow tops the list with a score of 142.4, up 6% from last year--and 42% higher than New York, the most expensive city in the U.S. The Russian capital is followed by Tokyo; London; Oslo, Norway; and Seoul, South Korea. In Depth: World's Most Expensive Cities New York fell from No. 15 to No. 22, thanks to the dollar's protracted woes. Los Angeles is the second-priciest city in the U.S., but Hollywood's denizens can't cry poverty just yet: At No. 55, Los Angeles is cheaper than the best neighborhoods of Lagos, Nigeria (No. 30); Almaty, Kazakhstan (No. 44); and Zagreb, Croatia (No. 49). The decline in the ranking of all U.S. cities is due to the weakening value of the U.S. dollar against most major world currencies," says Mercer's Mitch Barnes, a principal at the firm. "The dollar has been declining steadily for the past several years, which has resulted in an overall decrease in the cost of living in 19 U.S. cities, relative to other major global cities studied." Behind The Numbers Mercer surveyed 253 cities across six continents and measured the relative cost of over 200 items in each place, including housing, transport, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment. The survey is used to help American government agencies and multinational companies determine living costs for their expatriate employees, who usually demand a relatively high quality of life. "Companies may assign high priority to expansion in these economies, but may have to deal with inflationary pressures due to competition for expatriate-level housing," says Yvonne Traber, a research manager at Mercer. In the wake of the Federal Reserve's bailout of mortgage lenders Fannie Mae (nyse: FNM - news - people ) and Freddie Mac (nyse: FRE - news - people ), the dollar has continued its slide, falling to a record low against the euro earlier this week. While that's bad news for Americans traveling abroad, it could mean that more international businesses will set up shop in the U.S., where posh cities are suddenly becoming much more affordable. "The U.S. dollar's loss of value may serve to attract globally mobile executives to business centers such as New York, Chicago and Los Angeles," says Barnes. "The difference in cost of living can be significant, particularly for those executives with families." Most Expensive Meccas As for Moscow, prices in the Russian capital show no signs of dropping. The global commodity boom continues to fatten the pockets of local tycoons, and the ruble has appreciated 8% against the dollar since January. Moscow is home to 74 billionaires, the most of any city in the world. Its three wealthiest citizens ( Oleg Deripaska, Vladimir Lisin and Roman Abramovich) each possess fortunes in excess of $25 billion. And Russia's super-wealthy are just getting started: 13 of the country's billionaires are under the age of 40. Founded by the Romans nearly 2,000 years ago, No. 3 London is an ancient stalwart when it comes to pricey cities. Though it slipped from last year's No. 2 spot, it remains extremely expensive--even a ride on one of the city's vaunted double-decker buses costs $5.89. And while Japan's economy is stagnating, Tokyo is as expensive as ever.
