You have no chance at all with 12 points, even if you're from Kaduna.
I know people with 15 points this year who were not given Medicine.
Only those with 16 points
If you're willing to bend your dreams, I'll advice you to apply Pharmacy instead.

But what criteria do they use in shortlisting students?

Crossing is possible, and when I say possible, I don't mean it is easy.
Sometimes getting a high Gp won't even Guarantee with certainty a place for you in MBBS.
Crossing is very easy in private universities, not the same with public universities.
To avoid putting all your eggs in one basket, you guys should also register for jamb.

What if they had given up along the way?

Some people get things on first trial, yes, some are that lucky.

While others have to persist, have to strive hard and give their everything to achieve their dreams

It's not really stupidity when you see someone chasing after Medicine for years and years.

If it's actually their destiny to become doctors, nothing can change that.
And if not, You just dust yourself up and move on.

The pleasure is not always in the Achievement, sometimes it lies in the Attempt.
