Politics › We’ve Driven Boko Haram Into Fall-back Positions– Buhari by catchfun(op): 7:45pm On Jan 18, 2016 |
President Muhammadu Buhari said Monday in Abu Dhabi that Nigeria has made very significant progress towards ending the Boko Haram insurgency since his assumption of office on May 29 last year. Speaking at a meeting with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moon, on the sidelines of the World Future Energy Summit, President Buhari said in collaboration with the Multinational Joint Task Force, the Nigerian Armed Forces have driven the terrorist group from Nigerian territory into “fall-back positions”. “They are currently not holding any territory today as we speak, ” the President told Mr. Ban Ki Moon. President Buhari also told the United Nations Secretary-General that Nigeria will persistently pursue global action to reverse the drying up of Lake Chad and save the lives of those who depend on it for survival. “With all due respect to our neighbours, Nigeria has been worst hit by the drying up of the Lake Chad and we are hoping that the global community will support the process of halting the drying up of the lake,” President Buhari said. Mr. Ban Ki Moon commended the President for his courage in fighting terrorism and corruption. The Secretary-General said Nigeria has made amazing progress against terrorism since President Buhari assumed office, while the President’s war against corruption has boosted global confidence in the Nigerian economy. He urged President Buhari to integrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into Nigeria’s economic and environmental vision lalasticlala http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/196967-weve-driven-boko-haram-into-fall-back-positions-buhari.html. |
Politics › Desist From Unnecessary Criticism Of Buhari – Kashamu by catchfun(op): 7:05pm On Jan 18, 2016 |
Senator Buruji Kashamu, representing Ogun East Senatorial District, has enjoined members of the opposition parties in the country to desist from unnecessary criticism stressing they should exhibit maturity by having a balanced view on the activities of the present administration in the country. According to him, this became imperative to encourage those in power to be focused on the business of developing the country. Kashamu, stated this at his Ijebu Igbo home town when he spoke at an empowerment programme organised by Omo Ilu Foundation for over four thousand people across the twenty local government area of the state. The senator who scored the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari 70%, disclosed that some of his associates were unhappy with him supporting PMB but maintained that he would always support good governance irrespective of party affiliation. He, however, mentioned the Treasury Single Account, TSA and the Bank Verification Number, BVN as examples of good policies and ways to fight corruption stressing corruption must be defeated for Nigeria to move forward. His words: “Opposition is not all about criticising. When a government scores seven out of ten, we should not be shouting about three, we should commend the seven. “Some associates have quarrelled with me for supporting President Buhari; we should separate politics form party. “I am a PDP member but that does not mean I should not say the truth. Look at the TSA and the BVN. These are good initiatives that are so far successful. “We must fight corruption to a standstill for us to move forward and I think Buhari is doing fine”. The Senator, therefore, urged Nigerians to be patient with the present administration saying the present effort is the foundation for a better country. “Things have really gone bad and it takes time to fix the economy especially with the fall in international oil prices. Buhari is not responsible for the fall so we should be patient with the president.” Commenting on individuals in the PDP currently facing corruption investigations, Kashamu drew a distinction between individuals and parties saying “sins of officials cannot be visited on the party” insisting that PDP is a party of integrity. “There is a distinction between parties and individuals. Parties may give people opportunity to serve but these individuals are responsible for their own action. So PDP, in spite of individuals facing trials, is a party of integrity.” He submitted. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2016/01/desist-unnecessary-criticism-buhari-kashamu/lalasticlala,obinoscopy |

A group of northern youths under the aegis of North-east Youth Peace Development Empowerment Initiative has exonerated the Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulrahaman Dambazzau (Rtd), over what happened in Abuja recently when the DSS attached to him was caught cleaning the minister’s shoe.
National President of the group, Alhaji Kyari Idris Abubakar, made the statement in Lagos. “I don’t think the minister has done anything wrong by allowing his Orderlies to clean his shoe during a public function in Abuja recently,” he said.
Abubakar stated that those who understand the responsibility of the job of Orderlies would know that what the officer did were part of his normal job.
“If you are enlisted into the job of a body guard it is your duty to ensure that the boss dress properly in the public and when you notice something wrong in his dressing, you correct it immediately.”
Abubakar stated that before the cleaning of the shoe, the minister had attended a function where his shoes became dusty and when the officer attached to him noticed it, he decided to clean it without the request of the minister.
He urged those criticising the minister including the online publications to properly understand what happened on that day and the job of the DSS official which he was assigned. He further described the publications as unnecessary and ignorant of the existing practice in the military

At a public lecture on the Energy Group 5th GMD Conference, aired live on AIT on Monday, unpaid journalists of Newswatch Newspapers, Newswatch Magazine and National Mirror Newspapers had stormed the ongoing conference holding at NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja, demanding the payment of their 13 months’ unpaid salaries. Displaying placards, asking Ibrahim to clear the unpaid salaries , the journalists, under the aegis of Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, sang protest songs and took over the venue of the conference. The chanted solidarity songs, insisting that Ibrahim address the salary issue before the conference could continue. Ibrahim, who could not hide his anger midway into the conference, continued to blast company heads who could not generate their own money to pay salaries despite heavy investment in the business. The first to get the axe was the MD of Newswatch who was sacked on TV in a very dramatic fashion. Visibly under tension, the bosses of the newspapers in the conference knew there was trouble. And trouble eventually came when Ibrahim, suddenly, verbally appointed one the directors in the conference as new head of the Newswatch. Subsequently, he announced that he would help to pay some of the companies owing six months salaries but on the condition that the Managing Directors and Deputy Managing Directors of the companies step aside. He stated that any of his companies that does not pay up all salaries owed by December 31, 2016, will be shut down. Ibrahim, however, announced that the affected bosses should forward their resignation letter via email before they get termination letters from him http://dailypost.ng/2016/01/18/drama-as-jimoh-ibrahim-sack-newswatch-md-dmd-on-live-tv/. |

Politics › Audit Report That Set Off Probe Of Top Military Officers, Defense Contractors by catchfun(op): 8:23am On Jan 16, 2016 |
SaharaReporters has exclusively obtained a copy of the audit report that detailed apparent extensive fraud in the procurement of equipment for the Nigerian military, and triggered President Muhammadu Buhari’s order to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the role played by several retired and serving officers as well as civilian contractors. The audit committee began its work at the end of August 2015, and looked at procurement of weapons and equipment for the period from 2007 to 2015. According to the confidential report, the committee examined documents and information provided by several ministries, departments and agencies. It also analyzed information it gathered from organizations that provided funds in local or foreign currencies to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Defense Headquarters, and the various arms of Nigeria’s military services. According to the report, the committee examined more than N643.8 billion in local currency contributions to defense expenditure, with the foreign currency component topping $2 billion. The audit committee disclosed that their collation of defense funds did not “include grants from State Governments and funds collected by the DSS [Department of State Services] and [the] police.” The audit report noted that, “in spite of this huge financial intervention, there has not been significant improvement in the capacity and capability of the Armed Forces.” The committee revealed that it had substantially covered the audit of procurement activities by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and ONSA, but those of the Ministry of Defense (MOD), DHQ, Nigerian Army (NA) and Nigerian Navy (NN) were ongoing. “The procurement activities funded by ONSA were wide ranging and included acquisitions of platforms, weapons, ammunition and equipment,” the audit committee stated in its damning report. It continued: “Most of the ONSA-funded contracts were awarded to Messrs Societe D’ Equipmente Internationaux (SEI) Nigeria Limited and E-Force Interservices Nigeria Limited,” the audit stated. According to the audit report, between February 2014 and May 2015, SEI “handled 38 ONSA funded contracts. Twenty-eight of the contracts were for the NA while 10 were for the NAF. However, the Committee could only establish the cost of three of the NA contracts amounting to nine hundred and twenty-nine million, five hundred and thirty-five thousand US Dollars ($929,535,000.00). The total cost for the 10 NAF contracts was nine hundred and thirty million, five hundred thousand, six hundred and ninety US Dollars ($930,500,690.00). Thus, a total cost of one billion, eight hundred and sixty million, thirty-five thousand, six hundred and ninety US Dollars ($1,860,035,690.00) was expended by the ONSA to fund the NA and NAF contracts.” One of the numerous anomalies reported by the audit committee was the absence of cost of defense items in the NAF letters awarding the contracts. “Rather, the vendors’ invoices that were all issued on the same date (March, 19 2015) reflected such details. Additionally, some of the award letters contained misleading delivery dates that indicated fraudulent intention in the award process. The observed discrepancies are in clear contravention of extant procurement regulations.” The committee disclosed that its members had yet to physically inspect the procured equipment, adding that it “thus cannot confirm their delivery or serviceability status.” In particular, the committee “particularly noted the issue of procurement of two Mi-24 helicopters through SEI Nigeria Ltd that were deployed to the North East Operations in unserviceable condition which resulted in the unfortunate death of [the] late Group Captain U.N. Akpan and Master Warrant Officer Zabesan H.” One of the contracts highlighted by the audit was one for $520 million awarded by the ONSA to E-Force Nigeria Ltd in February 2014 for the supply of 12 combat helicopters, rocket launchers and the training of Special Forces. The audit found out that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on the orders of the ONSA, had mobilized E-Force Nigeria Ltd with $146 million after the contracts were signed. Even so, the NAF “has emphatically denied knowledge of the procurement or delivery of the helicopters to the Service,” the audit stated. It added that the Army “did not reflect the procurement of the rocket launchers in its submission to the Committee.” The audit committee also highlighted the questionable procurement of four Alpha-Jets in July 2014. It revealed that the ONSA awarded a contract of more than $7 million to Messrs Abbatare Nigeria Ltd, Konet Limited and Air USA for the procurement of the jets, including weaponization, avionics upgrade and provision of spares for the NAF. But the audit discovered that the jets were procured on an “as is” basis through Mr. Uptal Nandy, a UK-based Indian veterinary doctor. “As is,” “where is” meant that the equipment would be supplied in its present condition “and the seller was not obliged to carry out any repairs or maintenance on the aircraft.” According to the audit, Nigerian Air Force personnel “confirmed that only two of the aircraft were ferried to Nigeria in Apr 2015 after cannibalization of engines from NAF fleet.” It added that the remaining two Alpha-jets were “still in the USA awaiting repairs and clearance from the USA State Department.” The audit uncovered a series of suspicious transfers of funds through the CBN. The committee stated that, between September 17, 2012 and March 9, 2015, former National Security Adviser, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki, and ONSA’s former Director of Finance and Administration, Mr. S.A. Salisu, ordered the CBN to transfer various sums of money totaling more than €9.9 million. The funds were transferred to “various accounts in Nigeria, Niger Republic and UK for unascertained purposes.” lalasticlala http://saharareporters.com/2016/01/16/exclusive-audit-report-set-probe-top-military-officers-defense-contractors |

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has paraded a 28-year old man, Edet Asuquo, murdering a pregnant woman and using her and the unborn child for rituals. Edet Asuquo who is a native Ikot Otu in Itu Local Government Area of the state, had connived with four others to remove the foetus from the woman’s womb at night. The deceased is a native of Cross River State and was said to be a customer to Asuquo who deals in oysters. According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Cordelia Nwawe, “Asuquo, having sold the first part of his seafood to the pregnant woman, lured her to his home claiming that he had abundance of oysters at a cheaper rate. “On Monday, January 11, the woman had innocently followed Asuquo to his home, where she was killed and her corpse hidden near a plantain tree on the premises. “The suspect and those at large were contracted by a village leader for N250, 000, to kill a pregnant woman and remove the woman’s head and the foetus for ritual purpose. “Luck, however, ran out on them as Asuquo’s sister reported the matter to their elder brother, who invited the police. “The pregnant mother had gone to the market to buy oysters from Asuquo. The man lured her to his house to buy more oysters. The unsuspecting pregnant woman was murdered there,”the police spokesperson stated. Asuquo confessed that a leader in his village gave a job to him and his friends to kill a pregnant woman for N50, 000 so that he could use the foetus for sacrifice. He said, “We were five that were asked to kill a pregnant woman so that her head and her unborn child would be removed and used for ritual purpose. “He told us that after we have carried out the job, he will give each one of us N50, 000. He did not give us any advance payment. “After we had done the job, my sister reported the matter to my elder brother, who in turn called the police and I was arrested on Monday” . http://www.thebreakingtimes.com/evil-i-killed-the-pregnant-woman-and-used-her-unborn-child-for-rituals/lalasticlala,mynd44 |
Politics › FG Orders Depots To Sell Kerosene At N73.37k/litre by catchfun(op): 2:08pm On Jan 12, 2016 |
The Federal Government has directed petroleum depots to sell Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) at N73.37k per litre from the initial price of N40.90k per litre, The Guardianreports. At the former price of N40.90k per litre only Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) outlets sold at the recommended price of N50 .00. Most other filling stations sold at between N120.00 and N150.00 At the earlier Federal Government-pegged price of N50 per litre, the product had been scarce in circulation, prompting the marketers to indiscriminately hike the retail price to between N80 to N100 per litre. The new directive has elicited criticism from the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) which said the price of kerosene should also be reduced just as the case with petrol because they are products of the same crude oil, the price of which has crashed in the international market. With the new development, marketers will inevitably, also hike the retail price of the product after adding the associated charges. http://energymixreport.com/fg-orders-depots-to-sell-kerosene-at-n73-37klitre/lalasticlala |

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has declared his readiness to die fighting corruption. He said this during a visit to Channels Television. “There is too much talk about corruption fighting back, of course corruption would fight back, you don’t expect to fight somebody all the time without him fighting back. But we are resolved, we are determined to win this fight,” he said. “If I am opportune to drive this thing and in the process I happen to go with it, so be it. I am, we are ready. We are determined to fight this fight to finish. “There are series of allegations. For instance, the case of NIMASA of N2 billion initially, we took him to court and later on, we realised that he had another matter that he siphoned out of public funds, about N34 billion. “We carry out background investigation, preliminary investigation very thoroughly. We might be on you and you would not know. It may be six months, sometimes 10 months. “For instance, this NIMASA case, we’ve been on it for more than 10 months, before we began to invite people”, he stated . http://dailypost.ng/2016/01/12/i-am-ready-to-die-fighting-corruption-magu/lalasticlala |

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday responded to criticisms on the pace of his administration, saying he adopted the ‘slow’ style deliberately so that he would not make mistakes. According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the President gave the explanation while receiving a delegation of Women in Politics Forum at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. While defending the records of the administration in response to criticism that it is slow, Buhari was quoted as arguing that steps must be taken with caution to avoid mistakes. He said any mistake by his administration would be a disaster for the country. “People say we are slow. We are trying to change structures put in place by our predecessors in office for 16 years. If we hurry it, we will make mistakes. That will be a disaster,” the President said. While decrying the spate of terrorism in the North East, Buhari told his guests that a committee to rehabilitate infrastructure and resettle Internally Displaced Persons in that part of the country would soon be inaugurated. He said the committee, which would be led by Lt.- Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.) would also include Alhaji Aliko Dangote. He added that all forms of assistance in this respect generated locally and from foreign countries as promised by the G-7 would be channelled through the committee when it is inaugurated. He said that he had compiled a list of damaged infrastructure, including schools and bridges and handed it to the leaders of the G7 and the United States, adding that “I didn’t ask for a Kobo (in cash). It is up to them to choose what they will undertake. Already, some of them have sent teams to verify our assertions.” Buhari regretted that women and children are the worst victims of the Boko Haram sect. He said, “In the North-East, what I saw for myself and on those clips is a source of concern for people with conscience. “They are mostly women, and children who are orphaned. Some of them don’t even know where they come from. This is the pathetic situation in which the country has found itself.” The President also said that the fight for the return of the Chibok girls is ongoing and “continues to be a most worrying issue” to his government. He promised that his administration would do all within its powers in making the best efforts to secure their freedom. The President acknowledged the case made by the WIPF for better representation of women in his government and assured that women would fare well in the composition of parastatals and their boards in the first quarter of the year. He also assured them that the country has a budget proposal for the new year that is good for employment and manufacturing http://www.punchng.com/im-slow-to-avoid-mistakes-says-buhari/lalasticlala. |

Fiery Enugu based cleric, the Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has raised the alarm over the plan by some unnamed persons to kill President Muhammadu Buhari. Mbaka, who is known for his controversial prophecies, is the head of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu Nigeria. DAILY POST recalls that he had in his 2015 New Year message entitled ‘From Goodluck to Badluck’, prophecised that former President Goodluck Jonathan would be roundly defeated in the 2015 presidential elections. On a similar note, the charismatic in his 2016 New Year message, which he delivered before millions of worshipers in Enugu Friday morning raised the alarm over plans to kill Buhari owing to his anti-corruption posture. He equally accused Jonathan of killing Nigeria after which he handed over the skeleton to Buhari’s government. DAILY POST captured some of the cardinal points of his message to Nigerians below: “No matter how malignant the problem is, God says He will be in charge; fellow Nigerians, let us wait upon God; I have a new message; I’m blessing and covering the message we are giving now in the prophetic name of Jesus; Father speak now as your servant listens. “In 2013, there was a prophecy that was going to be an oil doom after several years of oil boom, and when that message came out of this ground, many started calling me a prophet of doom. How can there be oil doom in oil boom? And the oil price continued to climb, but the message said people should start to gather as in the days of Joseph, that the people in government should continue to gather, let them stop squandering our wealth; but they never listened; throughout the six years we passed in the past administration, God blessed our oil with high prices, over N140 per barrel, but the message kept coming, don’t mind the oil boom, there is going to be oil doom, our politicians stop embezzling our wealth but they said the money will continue to come, our oil will continue to flow. “During these moments of the oil boom, there was excess crude money, they didn’t know what to do with our money, when our youths were suffering and still suffering, graduates had no jobs, new industries were not built, our roads were not reconstructed, our hospitals were in shambles and total collapse; our educations systems were in shambles and these politicians were building good schools outside the country, Ghana, etc, even hospitals in South-Africa, and other neighbouring countries and when any of them is sick he will be flown outside the country because there is no hospital in the country worthy of authentic medication, you cannot find any country in Nigeria that has worthy diagnostic facilities; not one; the entire money voted for hospitals were looted out, corruption was in quantum, to the level that the Nigerian Bishops had to convene a prayer against bribery and corruption and enjoined all Catholics to be praying that prayer daily. “All the money voted for roads were swindled; many of them became millionaires, billionaires over night in naira, in dollars, in pounds, in euro when they have no workshop; no business centre; somebody who has nothing doing, just because he is a politician, and they wasted our oil money http://dailypost.ng/2016/01/01/there-are-plans-to-assassinate-president-buhari-fr-mbaka/lalasticlala,Mynd44 |

Kogi Governor-Elect, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello has refuted the allegation that he has no PVC, describing it as “spurious and unintelligent misrepresentation.” In a statement issued by the Yahaya Adoza Bello Media Office, the Governor-Elect accused Faleke of treating the party with disdain, insisting that the party’s decision on his election was in order. The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to the disturbing, malicious and misleading statements made by one Duro Meseko of Faleke Group, alleging that the Kogi State Governor-Elect in the person of Alhaji Yahaya Bello has no PVC, and that he is making a clandestine move to get the said PVC from INEC, on the basis of which he surmised that AYB stands disqualified. These among other malicious and ridiculous accusations against Alh Yahaya Bello are highly ridiculous and mischievous. “Ordinarily, the Media Office of Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello would have ignored such phantom allegations but for the concern expressed by many Nigerians. “For the record, we want the Faleke campaigners to know that the Kogi State Governor-Elect, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, would never indulge in such a pedestrian and base disposition. It is therefore a gross transmission of ignorance to think or allege that a party stakeholder, Governorship Aspirant, Candidate and Governor-Elect has no Permanent Voters Card. “APC as a party sets guidelines in line with operating Electoral Act for any person aspiring to all political offices, governorship inclusive. Such persons are screened and vetted before the Party’s primaries and general election. “Bello crossed every “t” and dotted every “i” of the provisions of Electoral Act and the Party’s Constitution for his qualification. There was no where the leadership of the Party found him wanting, including the issue of PVC which is in the possession of Alh Yahaya Adoza Bello. “We have no choice than to surmise that the resort to falsehood by Faleke Campaigners is a manifestation of their principal’s desperation and lust for power.[irp] “Is it also not strange that Hon James Faleke, who was elected by Lagos electorate to represent Ikeja Federal Constituency at the National Assembly in 2015, who has not delivered or fulfilled any of his campaign promises to Lagosians, is jostling to be Governor in Kogi State before the Elections Tribunal? While questioning the stake of Faleke in the peace, progress, tranquillity and unity of Kogi state, they urged him to “and his group to restrain themselves from words and actions that can cause anarchy in our dear state.” http://dailypost.ng/2016/01/01/kogi-guber-drama-bello-blasts-faleke-for-saying-he-has-no-pvc/lalasticlala |

Politics › Fayose Benefited From Arms Cash:apc by catchfun(op): 8:27am On Jan 01, 2016 |
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has challenged Governor Ayo Fayose to say how much he got from the N1.4 billion allegedly collected from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) by a former minister for the June 21, 2014 governorship poll. The APC claimed that part of the slush funds was used to rig the election in Fayose’s favour. In a statement yesterday by its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the party said: “We are aware that Fayose at that time acquired a N750 million building in a choice area of Abuja from the proceeds of this fund. “We are equally aware that Fayose submitted a bill of N30 billion to former President Goodluck Jonathan as the amount required to unseat former Governor Kayode Fayemi. “A certain amount was approved for the project out of which soldiers, who were used to rig the election, were paid as well as electoral officials who released the soft copies of sensitive materials to Fayose. “It was when a newspaper reported that N1.4billion was traced to a former minister to rig Ekiti and Osun elections, it was at the same time the said ex-minister ‘sneaked’ out of the country for ‘further education.’ Governor Fayose also travelled out about the same time. “We are demanding that the governor should tell Ekiti people how much he received from the Armsgate money and the property he acquired with the fund. We also call on the EFCC to beam its searchlight on Fayose to know how much is traceable to him and the governor of a neighbouring state who coordinated the disbursements of the funds.” The APC spokesman said the party was aware that the governor had become paranoid and jittery since the newspaper reported the amount traced to the former minister. He added that all those who shared the arms money should be investigated and prosecuted. Fayose has called on the international community to focus attention on human rights abuses and contempt for the rule of law in Nigeria. In a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor said he was aware of the plot to muzzle him and others considered as non-conformists because of their opinion and critical stance on the President and his government. “Such plot will definitely be counterproductive.” lalasticlala http://thenationonlineng.net/apc-fayose-benefited-from-arms-cash/ |

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari and his predecessor, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, emerged Vanguard’s Personalities of the Year 2015 because of their persistence and strength of character. In particular, President Buhari was considered worthy because of his unrelenting political struggles which were reminiscent of a similar struggle by a former American President, Abraham Lincoln. On his part, former President Jonathan was deemed worthy because he turned out to be a man in possession of a rare strength of character which is alien to Nigeria, by accepting his loss at the polls and conceding victory to Buhari http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/01/buhari-jonathan-are-vanguard-personalities-of-the-year/lalasticlala. |
