A RIVERS State High Court has restrained the National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from interfering with sacked Rivers State Executive Council (SEC) of the party led by Godspower Ake. And as the newly inaugurated State Executiveof the PDP led by Felix Obuah took over the party secretariat, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu, said the Police would enforce the verdict of the Abuja FederalHigh Court which sacked the Ake-led SEC. Justice Crescent Dappa-Adbo of the Okehi High Court yesterday issued an injunction restraining the National Executive Council of the PDP from interring with the tenure of Ake-led state executive. In same vein, the court also issued an order barring Obuah, who was welcomed back to Port Harcourt by thousands of party stalwarts and other members of his executive, from parading themselves as members of the state executive till the expiration of Ake’s tenure. The Commissioner of Police, however, told journalists in Port Harcourt Friday that he would enforce the Abuja court judgment and would not hesitate to deal with any group of persons from any side of the divide that tries to cause crisis and destabilise the state. “We are supposed to obey the court judgment. We are here to enforce the law. At the moment, there is no instruction from the President, Inspector-General of Police, the governor or anybody, we can only recognise and enforce the court judgment. For now, judgment has been given and we stand by that judgment until there is a contrary order. Anybody that attempts to cause tension in thestate, we will deal with such a person,” the commissioner said. Meanwhile activities at the Port Harcourt International Airport were paralysed for several hours as supporters of the factional chairman of the PDP, Felix Obuah, stormed the airport to welcome him and his team back to the state. Obuah who was accompanied by the former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Austin Opara; and Sergeant Awuse, amongst others, said his mission was to unify warring factions of the party in order to move it forward. “I warn that we must be very careful and respect constituted authority. The leaders of our great party PDP are President Goodluck Jonathan and Bamaga Turku. We must be very guided in our utterances and be very respectful knowing that we voted them to power,” he said. Obuah, who thanked God for his victory, said members of the party must realise that the PDP is not a pressure group. Meanwhile, the local government chairmen in the state under the aegis of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) have vowed not work with Obuah, insisting that Ake remains the authentic chairman of the party in the state. The chairmen, led by Chimbiko Akarolo, madethe assertion during a solidarity visit to Ake inPort Harcourt yesterday. He explained that after a thorough deliberation and critical analysis of the political development in the state, they came to the conclusion that there is a calculated plan by a faction of the party to cause a breakdown of law and order in the state. But Ake appealed to them to be calm, saying he would explore all necessary legal avenues to redress the injustice meted to him and his executive council. http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=119439:rivers-pdp-crisis-deepens-as-court-reinstates-sacked-chairman-&catid=1:national&Itemid=559 |
FG plans life jail for Leadership reporters ISE-OLUWA IGE April 17, 2013 No Comments » …Slams 10-count charge The Federal Government yesterday docked the Group News Editor of Leadership newspaper, Mr. Tony Amokeodo and Political Correspondent, Mr. Chibuzor Ukaibe, for allegedly forging a document purported to contain a presidential directive to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, not to register an opposition political party. Government slammed a 10-count charge on the journalists, one of which carries a life sentence. They were accused of forging a document containing presidential directive, fraudulent publication of a bromide of the controversial document, inciting members of the public against the government to dislocate the nation’s peace and forgery of the seal, signet or sign manual purported to be the signature of President Jonathan Goodluck on the duo. The Nigeria Police which investigated the caseis presently prosecuting the journalists. Although, the charge had been filed with the journalists served the court process, the high court judge, Justice Adetokunbo Ademola, whowas assigned to hear the case, aborted the plans by the police to take their pleas yesterday. The trial judge, who faulted the police over its failure to directly serve the accused persons the charge together with the proof of evidencein the matter, also ruled yesterday that the accused needed to be given time to study the charge, peruse the evidence against them andhire counsel of their choice to defend them. Justice Ademola said there was no need to sacrifice the rights and the justice in the matter on the platter of speed. Attempts by the police to get the court order remanding the accused journalists in either prison or police custody yesterday also failed as the judge ruled that the legal argument and authorities cited by both the police and the counsel to the accused on their bail were not applicable, the accused having not been arraigned. His words: “Having listened to the submissionsof the opposing counsel, it is the court’s opinion that the submissions are premature, the accused having not been arraigned. The arraignment of the accused is thereby fixed forApril 23 while the first and second accused persons are released conditionally to the Leadership newspaper’s Company Secretary, Mr. Umar Jubril, who will produce them at the next adjourned date. In the 10-count charge filed against the two journalists and the newspaper at the registry of the high court, counts one, three, five, seven and nine carry seven years imprisonment each; count eight carries 14 years; counts two, four and 10 carry three years jail term each while count six carries life sentence. Count six reads: That you, Tony Amokeodo, Chibuzor Ukaibe, Leadership Group Limited and Taiwo Ogunmola Omilani, who is now at large, on the 3rd day of April, 2013 at Abuja inthe Abuja judicial division did forge/ make a false document and placed same on the front page of Leadership newspaper of 3rd day of April, 2013, having on it the seal, or sign manual which purports that it is from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 467 (1) (b) of the Criminal Code Act Cap ‘C’ 38 Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004. There were conflicting reports yesterday on how Messrs Tony Amokeodo and Chibuzor Ukaibe, got to the police headquarters with the police saying that they were arrested at about 4.30 on Monday by them while the journalists were claiming that they walked intothe police office on their own. The duo alongside Mrs. Chinyere Fred-Adegbulugbe and the Managing Editor, Mr. Chuks Ohuegbe, were last week arrested by the police following a story in which the newspaper alleged a presidential directive targeted at the country’s opposition political parties. http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/fg-plans-life-jail-for-leadership-reporters/ |
Matthew 5:17-20 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven." |

The Lagos state government has raised concerns over the imminent ripple effect of the Hurricane Sandy that hit the United Statesof America and the Caribbean. At a press conference in Lagos on Tuesdau, the Commissioner for Waterfront and Infrastructure Development, Segun Oniru said experience has shown that whenever hurricane, cyclone or other natural disasters occurred on the American shore, the ripple effects were always felt in Lagos within seven and 14 days period. “Let Lagosians know what is going on, and what to expect, it is not to create panic; they should be careful around the Ocean and Lagoon. In the last five to six days, around the Caribbean, from Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba Hurricane Sandy has hit those places and has also hit the East Coast of America. “Normally, when such happens, and when those kinds of magnitude hit that part of the world, we always have a ripple effect in Lagos and around the West Coast of Africa. Our mainconcern is Lagos; it is a warning, but not to create panic,” he said. The Commissioner further said that “Lagos liesparallel to the South America part of the world on the map, but super storm Sandy has hit New York City and Atlantic and the West Part. “That part of the world is northern to us, but we need to note that within the next seven to 14 days, we may get a ripple effect. “When the wind starts, the wind turns to a hurricane and then high water level begins to rise because of the wind; imagine throwing water on a glass, it will splash back, so we mayhave high wave, high water level. “I advise those who live around the coastline and shoreline to be vigilant and remain calm and if they start seeing storms like the one that occurred on 17 of August this year, they should stay off the Atlantic. It’s a warning to those on the Coastline.” |

Abagworo: Why are you being mischievous? Some of those primary schools were awarded for 150million while the highest I saw was 350million. The cost depends on the size and terrain. The 4billion is a fabrication.N4b is the cost of building 1 model secondary school. Pls go and find out. |

Ameachi Was the speaker during odilli's 8yrs in office n yet he'll always say he knew nothing about what happen during that tenure. My problem with ameachi is the quality of the roads done. U hear billions spent of 1 road n in less than a year the road begins to go bad. To be sincere when it comes to stealing Ameachi is worse than Odilli. |
Ricky_Ross: You guys should be honesty with yourselves. Are you honestly trying to say Odili performed better than Amaechi? What is the exchange rate of naira against the dollar when Odili was in power? Compare a cup of garri then and now? How much does it cost to do a kilometer road during Odillis regime?Yes it costs N4b. The Governor said it With his own mouth during on on the end of the month meeting with stakeholders in the state. A state that has received over N1trillion within 5yrs and nothing to show for it. |
The allocations odilli received in 8yrs is what ameachi has received in 4yrs. The cheapest major road done by ameachi is over N1b and this roads have been patched severaly in less than 3yrs. If only the roads done by ameachi are up to standard, rivers state will be a better place. As for the schools and health center its only fuctional in port harcourt city and a few communities in rivers state, the rest na abandon projects. Ameachi spends 150million per primary school n 4b per secondary school which dos not include the furniture n equipment. Whereas the real cost of building one primary school is N60m. Odilli left rivers state debt free but right nw rivers state is owing over N200b with notin to show for it. |

Any one in support of the production of N5000 note must be blind. This is Nigeria where we have no control of the currencies in circulation. In other countries d higher denominations are rarely seen or used by its citizens except for special transactions but here in nigeria every1 will be seen with N5000 note once its produced and in no time it will lose its value. |
