Popularity is not the issue here. Rivers people want a true leader and some one that will transform Rivers State. We don't need a tyrant or some one who the present Governor is better than in all aspects of life. |
donphilopus:The executive and the armed forces are there to enforce d laws of the country and we have a constitution which they abide by. If the constitution is clear on a matter they don't need to go to court for interpretation. Who ever is nt satisfied with the decision should go to court. Its like saying a man who was caught committing murder should nt be apprehended until the police goes to court for interpretation of the section of the constitution that has to do with the arrest and prosecution of murder suspects. |
blessedvisky:Hmmm dat means expensive or beautiful shoes, clothes, bags, hats dat make one look good is a sin. Please abeg make I hear. D only place I know Gold can be seen as a sin is wen ur humanly attached to it in the sense dat u can't do without it or go any place without it or can't share it with anyone or give it out or get angry wen sum1 touches or goes close 2 it. Apc E-rats always raising false alarms n rumours. This is the details of the Court proceedings and I wonder where it was said that his security should be restored. Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday restated his earlier order that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu and others should refrain from reconvening the House of Representatives before its December 3 adjourned date. The judge had last week Friday, ordered parties in the suit filed by the House of Representatives Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, to maintain status quo. He adjourned to November 7 for the defendants to appear before the court and explain why he should not grant orders of interim injunction sought by the plaintiff in an ex-parte application. In the application, Tambuwal urged the court to among others, order the restoration of his security aides. Lawyers to the PDP, Mu’azu, Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Yunus Ustaz (SAN) and Ade Okeaya-Inneh (SAN) told the court that their clients have not acted against its order on the matter. They assured the court that their clients will not act in any manner to destroy the res (subject matter) of the case. Delivering verdict, Justice Mohammed, who was silent on the request that he should make pronouncement on the withdrawal of Tambuwal’s security aides, ordered parties continue to maintain status quo and refrain from taking steps that will destroy the rest of the case. He elected to hear the objections raised by some of the defendants along with the substantive suit. Those, who filed the objections, are challenging the court’s jurisdiction. The judge adjourned to November 17 for hearing. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/tambuwal-judge-restates-order-on-reopening-of-house/ |
FOLYKAZE:It is because evil people like u and some others in Apc promised to make the nation ungovernable for GEJ. Despite all ur strategies to distract him n destroy the nation, he has delivered on most of his promises. GEJ is the most distracted president but the most outstanding performer dis nation has witnessed in the past 30years. |
hardywaltz:Ur sick. I hope dey owe u ur salary just as d monies of these corpers have been held. Its called transport n feeding allowance wen u work in establishments or schools owned by the state government. Some state make it clear that they don't pay allowances but it is nt so in rivers state. Corpers get paid in rivers state right from the days of Odilli n it is paid at the end of their service year(N110,000). Even small ebonyi state with their little allocation pays N5000 every month. This shows hw stupid n useless the loud mouth governor is. I wonder if he was d. President maybe corpers won't get paid a dime. |
dlox147:Most sensible comment so far. I can't think of any country where their house of reps will adjourn sitting for up to a month because of party primaries. Wetin concern us with party primaries wen there are urgent matters that needs to be addressed. With less than 6months to go, they should focus on passing bills dat will strengthen and move the nation forward and nt decamping from one party to another because of selfish interest. |

…as Okorocha rejects VP ticket An indication emerged yesterday that there may be a disagreement over the zoning of the presidential and vice presidential slots in the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, yesterday insisted that he would not interested in the vice presidential slot. Rather, the governor disclosed that with the pressure mounted on him, his preference would to have shot at the presidential ticket of the opposition party come 2015. Reacting to the speculation as published in one of national dailies (not National Mirror) that Governor Okorocha and his Rivers State counterpart, Rotimi Amaechi, would slog it out for the Vice President’s slot in 2015, Okorocha, through a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo and made available to National Mirror in Owerri, insisted that he has no intention to contest for the vice-presidential slot of the party as being speculated in some quarters. The statement reads in part: “The truth of the matter is that Governor Okorocha is not in the VP race in the APC. There has been unprecedented pressure on the governor by Nigerians from all walks of life to vie for the Presidency and he has been consulting on that. His consultations have not been on the VP slot but on the presidency and at the end of the consultations, he would decide whether to throw his hat into the ring for the presidential race or not.” Onwuemeodo also said that “pressure is also on the Imo governor by well meaning citizens of the state, including the artisans, farmers, traders and students, to ensure the completion of the transformation he has begun in the state by seeking re-election in 2015. And the governor is also yet to decide on that.” Saying that it was good for the stakeholders said to have met and considered the governor for the VP race, the statement added that the choice shows the qualities in the governor and what his administration has been doing in Imo, saying: “While we appreciate that, the fact remains that Governor Okorocha is not in the race for VP for 2015.” http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/disagreement-over-presidential-slot-rocks-apc/ |

Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, yesterday said that President Goodluck Jonathan, who is also from the South- South region, has done nothing for the region, saying that he has failed to protect the interest of his people, especially Rivers State people. The governor disclosed this in Port Harcourt during a sensitisation rally by the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Liberation Stadium in the city yestersday. According to Amaechi, since President Jonathan assumed power, all he has done is to collect the oil wells of the Rivers people and abandoned them without carrying out a serious project in the state. “Mr. President has collected all our oil wells in the Kalabari area of the state and in Etche, his administration has taken about 41 oil wells, they are saying I have joined APC, yes I have to fight for the future of the Rivers man, let him return all our oil wells if they want me to come back,” he said. According to the governor, the Federal Government has shown the highest level of impunity in governance, adding that the policy of the supremacy of the rule of law is not operational in the country. He also added that the Jonathan administration promised Rivers people good water, but he (Jonathan) and his finance minister have claimed that World Bank has refused to release the money meant for the project. “Rivers people need good water, Jonathan and his minister for finance have refused to sign the money meant for the project, they are lying that there is no money, the Africa Development Bank is ready, the World Bank is ready, the Federal Government is owing the state 52 per cent of our money, they should return our money.” Also speaking at the rally, former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, said the people of the state should believe and participate in the newly registered APC, adding that the intention of the party is to build a better Nigeria, seeing that the present administration has not acted as expected. Former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who also spoke at the rally, described Governor Amaechi as a “Wonder Boy,” saying that Amaechi is a determined fellow, having taken a bold step to walk out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), leaving them in their corruption and that he has proven to them that he controls Rivers State. He promised the lawmakers that had moved from the PDP to the APC that they would never be disappointed and they would never regret joining the party. http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/jonathan-has-done-nothing-for-south-south-amaechi/ |

SOCIAL activities may be disrupted Tuesday as Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) begin a two-day protest against transfer of minimum wage from the exclusive to concurrent legislative list. A statement signed by the President of TUC, Bobboi Kaigama, and General Secretary, Musa Lawal, Sunday said arrangements for the protest are in top gear. The statement reads in part: “Mobilisation to protest the decentralization of National Minimum Wage slated for September, 17 and 18, 2013 by the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria and its sister body, Nigeria Labour Congress is in top gear. The labour centres have given directive to their over 60 affiliates throughout the country to be battle-ready against the obnoxious move. We are surprised that in one breathe; the Senate proposed decentralization of minimum wage against the wish of the people of Nigeria, eroding the earning power of vulnerable workers while they legislated life pension for the leadership of the Senate.” The protest is scheduled for Abuja tomorrow and Wednesday. However, there was no indication on the movement of the protesters within the seat of government. The TUC declared that the very essence of the minimum wage is to ensure that employees, particularly the unorganized and unskilled are not exploited by their employers to the extent that their pay become so low that it creates a poor working masses. It added that minimum wage should not be erroneously mistaken for a living wage; as such it guarantees mere bare existence for workers in the formal sector – public and private. It also influences wages in the informal sector, thus minimum wage, as approved to salary increase, affects all. It explained: “To underscore its importance, the National Assembly has legislated on the minimum wage from N125 in 1981 to N5,500 in 2001. And in 2011, the current minimum wage of N18,000 was signed. Alas, the governors suddenly realized the minimum wage matter should be concurrent rather than exclusive. Who are they serving? The motive however, is not far-fetched: decentralize labour and turn the workers into political thugs for the purpose of self-serving politicians. We will never allow this because even if the states legislate for state workers (concurrent) who legislates for the private sector? This is why we must mobilize to kick against the Senate’s uninformed position. “We are of the opinion that states’ determination of minimum wage and other established emoluments for staff of civil service of the states, institutions, bodies and agencies established and managed by the government councils and Local Government Services Commissions will introduce politics into wage determination, in particular during elections, as was the case in the First Republic. We insist that the Senate should leave item 34 of the 1999 Constitution and allow minimum wage determination to remain in the exclusive list. We need to stay with the tradition; we need to strengthen, not weaken the protection of the most vulnerable segment of our nation; we also need to avoid the development of a segmented labour market.” It added: Nigerians must wake and join hands with labour to ensure the minimum wage remains in the exclusive list, saying: “this is why this collaboration between the Nigeria Labour Congress and the TUC must be hailed once again.” http://ngrguardiannews.com/national-news/132933-protest-against-senate-transfer-of-minimum-wage-begins-tuesday |
