PoliticsGroup Threatens Recall Of Rivers Lawmaker by ccwizard(op): 7:30am On Aug 12, 2013
• Abe flays police arrest of Amaechi’s loyalists
A GROUP, the Rivers Progressive Committee, said it has initiated the process of recalling a member of the House of Representatives representing Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, Andrew Uchendu, over poor performance and lack of effective representation.
Meanwhile, the Senator representing Rivers South-East, Magnus Abe, has condemned arrest of two political officers in Rivers State last week by the Police, describing the victims as political prisoners in their country.
Chairman of Omuma Local Council, Mr. Charles Amefule as well as the Assistant Secretary of Godspower Ake-led faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Mr. Leo Anyanwu, were said to have been whisked away by policemen last week and remanded in Kuje Prison, Abuja.
Also, the Chief Godspower Ake-led PDP said the electoral victory of the party in Rivers State would dependent on Governor Chibuike Amaechi.
The President of the group, Mr. Franklin Wosu disclosed that they have already garnered 18,582 signatures in the move to recall Uchendu over poor performance and lack of effective representation.
Wosu in a statement issued yesterday said that the group after a meeting of constituency stakeholders at the weekend resolved to ensure that the ineffective lawmaker recall was a success.
“The recall process of the lawmaker started three months ago when it was discovered that he had not made any impact nor had he sponsored any bill. However, the decision to formally take action against him was reached when his recent comments on the Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, exposed him as an anti democratic lawmaker, working with Governor Amaechi to promote All Progressive Congress (APC) activities in Rivers State,” said Wosu.
He alleged that in just three days, 500 volunteers raked in the signatures because of Uchendu’s unpopularity, who usually relies on the Government House to get re-elected. The group said that more volunteers are on board and work will intensify on the project.
“We are bringing him home, so that he can concentrate on his duty as a campaigner for Amaechi’s APC and a village elder who is used to heap insults on people of importance. The Wike, he is insulting has attracted two federal e-libraries, a girl child school, a faculty of law building at UNIPORT, a complete rehabilitation of the school at Rumuipirikom and several projects at the State University of Education. What has Papa Uchendu done after 10 wasted years at the House of Representatives, except to shout aye or nay”, he said.
The group reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the South-South political agenda exemplified by President Jonathan and Wike is driven to its logical conclusion.
“Rather than use uncomplimentary language on Wike, Uchendu and Amaechi should shop for a candidate among the unpopular few tied to the governor’s apron string. Trying to use intimidation tactics won’t work as the people must decide the future of Rivers State in 2015”, the Rivers Progressive Committee affirmed.
In a statement signed by publicity secretary of the Ake-led PDP, George Ukwuoma-Nwogba, in Port Harcourt, said men and women wishing to win elections in the state in 2015 would depend solely on the finished work of the governor.
“Amaechi, who’s house is built on solid rock, the Ake group said the laudable achievements of our amiable governor is a win-win ticket for any aspirant in the state, the statement further described the Obuah’s group as a sinking sound for any aspirant in 2015 election, they should be mindful that we ‘re still in court and is not over yet,” he said.
Abe, who spoke to journalists Sunday, said the men were carried away without any information regarding their whereabouts for 48 hours.
“Few days ago, Chairman of Omuma Local Council in Rivers State, Mr. Charles Amefule and the Assistant State Secretary of the Ake faction of the PDP in Rivers, Leo Anyanwu, were kidnapped by the police and it was only yesterday that we learnt they were brought to Abuja and taken to a Magistrate Court and charged with six-count of misrepresentation and remanded in Kuje prison. They are right now in Kuje prison.
“So, as we speak, they are political prisoners in Nigeria today. That is what this means because the offense to which they are charged has no relationship whatsoever with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“The foundation of this matter was that one of the five members in Rivers State House of Assembly who attempted to impeach the speaker by force and overthrow the government of Rivers State by force, wrote a petition to the police and the petition was minuted to whoever and policemen were dispatched to Rivers State to kidnap these young men, brought them to Abuja and they are now remanded in prison”.
According to him, the manner of arrest, which denies victims opportunities of knowing reasons for their arrest and where they are being taken to, is nothing short of kidnap.
“I call it kidnap because the procedure for arrest is that you should be informed of your offence, whatever it is and you should be allowed to inform your family or call your lawyer. But these people were carried away. Nobody knew where they were taken to, nobody knew what they were charged with until we got to Abuja Magistrate Court and found out what they were charged with, remanded in Prison and the case adjourned”. The lawmaker also condemned later explanation that the men attempted to incite the public with the announcement of the suspension of the five members of the State House of Assembly.
“The allegation that by making an announcement, suspending the members, who attempted to impeach the Speaker and overthrow the government of Rivers State, they have incited violence or committed impersonation or whatever they are, are things that ordinarily, by common sense and by the operation of the Constitution, would have been tried in Port Harcourt and handled there.
“There was no need carrying them without informing their families of the reasons they were arrested and where they were being taken to. We were in panic for over 48 hours before the information came that they had been charged to court in Abuja”, Abe explained.
While expecting the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, to investigate circumstances leading to the arrest of the people and their movement to Abuja Prison, the lawmaker called on Nigerians to rise in defense of the Constitution.
“So, I don’t know whether we as citizens are watching what is happening in this country. It is not about Governor Amaechi, it is not about Rivers State, it is about the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If they are doing it today in Rivers State and we don’t say anything, nobody says it is wrong, tomorrow, even some of the people who are doing these things, would themselves need the protection of the constitution,’’ he added.

PoliticsAPC: IBB, Tinubu, Atiku Battle For Bot Chair by ccwizard(op): 8:01am On Jul 14, 2013
. Falana, AD join legal fi reworks in party’s name dispute
Barring any further development, the All Progressives Congress, APC, will this week receive the nod of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to function as a political party, having satisfied all the conditions set by the election regulatory body.
But in the meantime, the party ahead of the registration has started making moves to constitute its Board of Trustees.
It is expected that the party is drawing the lists of eminent leaders and political heavyweights which include former heads of state, past governors and all former chairmen of the parties that are in the merger arrangement.
A source at the APC secretariat told Sunday Mirror that names already pencilled by the leadership of the party to be involved in the policy making organ of the party include former military leader, General Ibrahim Babangida, former Vice President Atiku Abubarkar, former Defence Minister, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, NADECO chairman and retired Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu.
The party is also bothered about the future of former party leaders who pioneered the merger arrangement including the National Chairman of the Congress for Progressive Change, Prince Tony Momoh, National Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Congress, Dr. Ogbonnanya Onu and the founder of the Democratic Peoples Party and former governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Atahiru Bafarawa, as a well as the strong man of Borno politics and former BoT member of ANPP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
It is expected that the two others leaders of APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Gen. Mohammadu Buhari will play a key role in the new BoT.
According to the source, “It is believed that the protem chairman of the BoT will come from the South since the party has ceded the presidential slot to the North and all expectation is that either Tinubu or his appointee will emerge as the chairman of the privileged arm of the party.
“But the BoT may also consider some other members of the National Working Committee from the merger parties as well as some other Nigerians who are opposed to the tyrannical style of leadership of the PDP.”
“It is the believed in the APC that most Nigerians are tired of the style of governance forced on us by the PDP and since the only way to end that national embarrassment is through the ballot, APC is the only viable option and 2015 will be a watershed in the history of Nigeria. We are all eagerly looking for the change we all hoped for.”
However, the controversy that brewed last week over the plans of INEC to register All Progressives Congress has intensified as more interested parties have shown interest in the drama.
The Federal high court Abuja late last week delivered a landmark ruling by Justice Kolawale of court 5 on the suit of African People’s Congress (APC). The ruling which centered on the application of a faction of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) linked to ACN to be joined as a defendant in the suit of African People’s Congress against INEC on their decision not to register them.
The judge described the application of AD as frivolous, abuse of court process and a calculated attempt by the applicant to waste the time of the court as they did not show any cause of action. The court struck out the application immediately.
Shortly after the ruling strange drama took place, a new group Peoples Socialist Movement moved another motion to be joined as defendant in the suit.
The judge was infuriated by the numerous applications by different groups to be joined, he warned the lawyer of the new group that if he discovers that the application is frivolous like that of the AD he will award cost on the lawyer personally.
Then came the undated motion filed by Femi Falana (SAN) for another group bearing the name African People’s Congress claiming to be a non-governmental organization, seeking a stay of proceedings by the court as they have filed their notice of appeal in the court of appeal.
The group sought to quash the decision of the Federal High Court in granting the plaintiffs leave to seek judicial review against INEC. The judge descended heavily on the application of Falana, saying that it was smuggled into his file without a date on it and served on only the plaintiffs without serving INEC.
He further warned that nobody can use the court processes to delay him from hearing the substantive suit, saying thatthat politicians should not use his court to play politics and that INEC should beware that the case is properly before him that in the event they go ahead to register anybody with the acronym (APC) that it will not stop him from delivering his judgment in due course. The judge adjourned the ruling of the applications of the People’s Socialist Movement and Femi Falana to July 18, 2013
Meanwhile the factional leadership of the AD said that it was amazed to see that the party that was not even aware of the case before the Federal High Court mentioned in the court ruling that the application of the AD was struck out, and the court refused to join the party as a defendant.
In a statement by the factional secretary, Rafiu Salau, the party said it does not see anything special in a struggle for a name since they believe that the ideology of a political party and the manifestos of candidates are more important because they determine the level of dividends of democracy for the people.
“The party knows that it is the responsibility of INEC to determine the registration of a political party. Therefore, it will not intervene in the duty of the Commission. In addition, the party has confidence in the transparency of the new leadership of the Commission. This is the first leadership of the Body to involve all political parties in the draft, the review and the ratification of Political Parties Code of Conduct and Guidelines for political parties, and it consults with the forum of political parties about any electoral issue.
“The truth is that AD didn’t file any application in the ongoing case between African People’s Congress, a political association, and the Commission. The leaders of AD are surprised that a counsel could represent a registered political party without proper search for the recognised leaders.”
He said that the report has caused acute embarrassment to the party. “Therefore, the party will send a delegation of leaders to meet with the NBA on the norms of the legal profession, in order to annihilate such a thing in the future. Also, the party will write to the Federal High Court that it was not even aware of the case before it.''

Was he not undemocratic when he said he'll must destroy all water fronts in Port Harcourt against the wish of the people who would only accept the demolition if the will be relocated back to the area after construction. Now he's talking about democracy cos he's no longer in good terms with the Oga at the top. I laugh in Wakrike grin

Rivers 2015: Patience Jonathan dares Amaechi, endorses Wike
SAM OLUWALANA June 16, 2013 3 Comments »

In a subtle endorsement of the Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, for the 2015 Rivers State governorship elections, the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has presented the junior minister as the unifying factor of the state.

Speaking at the wedding reception of a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Evans Bapakaye, Dame Jonathan in a 22-minute speech which dwelt mostly on praising the former Chief of Staff to Governor Amechi, said Wike is one individual who has been able to bring together all the members of all the various political factions in the state, She added that he had been a major asset to the political landscape of the state.

‘’Wike has been a major unifier for the state; it is him that has made it possible for me to be here today. We need peace in the state; if not for Wike, I wouldn’t be opportuned to be here today. It is good to be good. Wike, I doff my hat to you.’’ Dame Jonathan later spoke on the importance of peace in the state.”

I am from Rivers State and I grew up in Rivers State, I am overwhelmed by this reception today; I am humbled and I shall always be loyal to you my people. The people who can move and shake the state are here today and we have all agreed to speak with one voice and one movement.

“We are talking about Rivers State; nothing can separate us as we come together to make sure that Rivers State move forward.” The first Lady also took a swipe at the Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s administration, even though, subtly. “I remember during the time of our father, Rufus Ada George, and during the administration of Peter Odili, people came from all over the world to Rivers State and it was then called Garden City. I pray that it will go back to Garden City.”

Those present on the occasion include three former governors of the state: George, Odili and Celestine Omehia; while wives of the Governors of Bayelsa State, Rachael Dickson; Cross Rivers State, Obioma Imoke; Abia State, Nkewe Orji and Anambra State, Margaret Obi were also present.

The event was also graced by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Abba Morro; former Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Timi Alaibe; a former member of House of Representatives, Austin Okpara; Senator George Sekibo, and Abiye Sekibo.

The Governor Amaechi was absent at both the church wedding ceremony and the reception, as he was said to be away on official assignments.
