[quote author=BeijinDossier post=91201607]These pictures are even not recent, the project has gone far beyond the pictures. There are over 4 different contractors doing different aspects of airport project. Obiano will complete the project real soon. Watch out for updated pictures. Obiano has done 6yrs, remaining 2yrs. ...... The airport project has not gone far beyond this level but the only difference is that work is going there day and night. It can even take other states 3 years to get to this present status Anambra state airport is under 7months if not that Obiano engaged seven contractors |

WORK ADVANCES AT THE NNEWI WATER SCHEME PROJECT. ..... As Hon Melie Onyejepu assures Anambra Residents of Portable Water Soon. A visit to the Anambra State water cooperation Nnewi unit, will convince even the doubting Thomases that the Gov Willie Obiano's led State Government is truly matching their words with visible actions with the construction of new model urban water project that is aimed at changing the believe that potable water supply is no longer possible. The speed and quality of works at the water board Nnewi unit by the construction company handling the project, ATLANTIC DRILLING FLUIDS SERVICES LTD, is not only encouraging but it shows that the State Government really meant business. Those that visited the site in April 2020, won't be able to believe their eyes with the rate of infrastructures that are in place now at the same Site. The site engineer of the construction firm wasn't even happy with their own pace of works, according to him, the constant rain have forced them to slow down their pace. He said, that since the State Government has fully mobilized them, that they have no reason whatsoever to delay the project, if not for the rain. He added that they have refurbished the old overhead tank, and that it's ready for use now. He also said that they have put in place two surface tanks and are almost done with the drilling and fixing of the borehole. Recall that the Anambra State Government commensed state-wide construction of new model urban water projects to phase out individual borehole system that littered all over the State. The special Adviser to Gov Willie Obiano on Budget, Efficiency/AIRS, Hon Melie Onyejepu who was recently appointed the General Manager of Anambra State Bureau of Public Procurement Board, had said during a visit to the Site in April,2020, that the project which was divided into two phases, had already started in Nnewi at its abandoned water project located at old Nnewi Onitsha road Amuko. According to Onyejepu, the pilot scheme which was the first phase, would gulp $1million and would on completion distribute potable water within the area the project was sited and would later go round the whole Nnewi community when the second phase was completed. He said that the project was divided into engineering, house enumeration, metering and billing and appealed to Nnewi residents to cooperate with the enumerators to make their job easy. He noted that the Anambra State Government's collaboration with the foreign donors was designed that the State would pay a counterpart funding of between N50 million and N100 million. He noted that the project was being executed with quality assurance. It's very important to note that all the Previous Governments in the State did not invest in water and people began to sink boreholes here and there, forgetting that the gains of public water supply far outweighed the individual borehole projects, because apart from the high cost in maintaining the private water boreholes, ecological problems it generated posed a threat to the residents. Provision of water is a major democracy dividend and Anambra State Government under Gov Willie Obiano is working on various water projects to ensure provision of potable water. His Excellence Governor Willie Obiano has been working with donor agencies like World Bank and ADB for new urban water model. The construction firm lauded Hon Melie Onyejepu for making sure that the host Community is giving them all the necessary support, in terms of security and other logistics that has been serving as a motivating factor to their staffs, which in the other hand has also enabled them to put in their best. June 17, 2020 Okechukwu Onuegbu Barely seven months of boasting that the Anambra state International Cargo Airport project would be completed in less than 18 months, there is indication that work has not started at the site after the state commissioner for Works, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, told journalists they won’t access it. A team of investigative journalists including Blueprint reporter had gone to find out the pace of work at the site since Governor Willie Obiano, on November 27, 2019 during the Anambra Business and Investment Roundtable held at Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, said the project would be completed before 18 months. Obiano equally claimed that work has resumed on the site with clearing done at about a kilometer out of 3.6 kilometer runway. “Oga, sorry, we don’t entertain journalists here any longer. You can’t be allowed to see its pace. You can call the works commissioner to confirm it,” two ununiformed men stationed at the entrance to the site stated, adding that the commissioner was on site with the contracting firm. But a look from afar showed that there was no work on the site except a visible sign of a newly cleared road by bulldozer, first of its kind since 2017 the work was flagged off. When the commissioner for works, Mr Ifejiofor was contacted on the phone, he queried, “Why are you here? Who told you to come here? We don’t allow people to come here, you can’t come, but you can come to my office on the following Wednesday by 10am,” he said. On Wednesday, the commissioner fumed again,“I don’t know what you want to be told about the project. Go and quote me, just say work has not started. I am not ready to talk further on the project, so you can say that I said no comment. If you have other things to know about the state of roads in Anambra, I will be ready to speak to you, but I am not willing to talk about the airport. “Any time I want to make a comment I will tell you. If the project had started our Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) would have carried the report. Is it because I allowed you into my office? How many commissioners in the state can allow you into their offices the way I allowed you people not to talk of other eastern states. I don’t have any comments on the project,” he said. Obiano had at a budget presentation at Anambra State House of Assembly on September 26, 2019 announced that the government has earmarked N6 billion naira for the construction of the Anambra State International Cargo Airport at Umueri, Anambra East local government area in fulfilment of his promise at 2017 governorship campaign. The governor in 2017 inaugurated the airport project which, according to him, included a mall, industrial, business park, airport hotel and others, claiming that it would boost economicdevelopment and increase the income base of the state. The project, estimated to cost over $2 billion and would be developed through a partnership between the Anambra State Government, Orient Petroleum Resources and Elite International Investments. Elite International Investments was specifically said to provide all funds under a build, operate, manage and transfer agreement. Earlier in 2017, Obiano said it was a Chinese company, Sinoking International that would build it at no cost to the state through a Build-Operate-Manage and Transfer (BOMT) basis. https://www.blueprint.ng/2020/06/ |

Published May 22, 2020 Sodiq Oyeleke The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced that the Ramadan fast would continue on Saturday. This was followed by the report of the National Moonsighting Committee of the NSCIA stating that no moon was sighted in the country on Friday. It said the Ramadan fast would reach 30 this year as against preparations earlier made by Muslim faithful to celebrate Eid-el-Fitri tomorrow (Saturday) in Nigeria. This was contained in a statement by the Chairman of Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of Sultanate Council in Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Junaidu, on Friday. The statement quoted the Sultan as declaring Sunday, May 24, as the 1st day of Shawwal 1441AH and the beginning of Eid-el-Fitri celebration in the country. The statement read in part, “The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs working in conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee did not receive any report of moon slighting in the country. “This means that Friday, May 22 is the 29th day of Ramadan 1441AH. Therefore, Saturday May 23, is the 30th day of Ramadan 1441AH. “The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has declared Sunday, May 24, as the first day of Shawwal 1441AH.” The PUNCH reports that the Muslim holiday of Eid-el-Fitr marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. Also, Eid will begin on Sunday in Saudi Arabia, authorities in the kingdom said on Friday. “Saturday will be the last day of the sacred holy month of Ramadan and Eid-el-Fitr will take place on Sunday,” the royal court and the supreme court said, quoted by the official Saudi Press Agency. Religious authorities in Jerusalem, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Qatar, and Lebanon also said that Eid would begin on Sunday. The timing of Eid is determined by the position of the moon, in accordance with the Muslim lunar calendar. The holiday is normally celebrated by families gathering together. https://www.google.com/url?q=https://punchng.com/breaking-no-moon-sighted-fasting-continues-tomorrow-nscia/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwjEsIXFjsnpAhWJKewKHXASCWIQFjAAegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw1tLBAb4y-Tf_grP8ruM3_k |
