Hello everyone,

I am heading to Bristol, I have been searching for a flight from lagos to london. I cant seem to get and afforable direct flight o... so I started looking at the ones with stops... then I saw the below statement:

"You need an (airport) transit visa if you are travelling to or from the United Kingdom. If you have a transfer in 2 or more Schengen countries, you may also need a Schengen visa. Check the latest entry requirements for your trip in TravelDoc shortly before departure as the requirements change regularly".

Abeg, does it mean I need a transit visa? if yes how do I get one? My current visa is a dependent visa.

Pls it urgent, before this christmas rush stop me

Thanks any comment on job opportunities in Bristol vs Essex?

Ticha:

I'd take Bristol a million times over Essex. I am biaised though. We lived in Bristol for a long time. I've only commuted through Essex but looking at house and rental prices, Essex is expensive! Proximity to London cos it's a commuter area for London workers.

Although depends on where in Essex as well. I'd check rental prices and commute costs for both and choose based on that.

Study Permit Approved!

Date of Submission: 20th January 2021
Passport Receipt Date: 27th April 2021 (Delivered via courier)
VFS Centre of Submission: Port Harcourt

STUDY PERMIT PACK/DOCUMENTS USED;

1. Application Form (DHA - 1738) fully completed in black ink only

2. Two identical passport size (35mm widthx45mm height) photographs on white background showing the
complete face (took the passport photographs at N1,000 the same day of my study visa submission, and with the photographer the VFS center, just to make sure it is done with the accepted format).

3. A valid passport

4. Copy of passport data page (2 colored copies).

5. Self-introduction letter with my physical address and phone number (made it one page).
Also included my current job and why I need to go for a Masters, and specifically why the course (Industrial Engineering) and school (DUT) and my plans after studies. I stated that in addition to the 100% tuition waiver received from my intending school, I would be supporting my living cost from my employment savings. I also explained why I am using two accounts statements, and while one is 6 months instead of the statutory 3 months.

6. Introduction/Recommendation letter from my employer, signed with contact details, (with physical
address and phone numbers).
Included was just my date of employment, role, and awareness of the fact that I am planning to leave for studies.

7. Seven days verifiable hotel reservation/bookings done directly with:
HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS DURBAN - UMHLANGA
https://www.ihg.com/holidayinnexpress/hotels/us/en/reservation
(free without charges)

8. Copy of international traveling certificate (yellow fever card) duly and fully completed by a health
practitioner. Spent roughly N5,000 to get them together and I did the vaccination too.

9. Proof of financial status (bank statement from salary account-6 months and 3 months from another
personal account) (Original, Stamped & Signed by the bank authority)

My salary account had around N5,000 while the other had over a N1million (bulk of it was deposited the same day I printed the statement of account, this is not advisable though).

The reason I used the 6 months is due to the nature of my work, where I had to work for 3 months paid, and 3 months no work no pay. The 3 months unpaid fell within the point of visa application, so I had to get up to 6 months statement to validate my claims of employment.

10. Non-Refundable Visa Fee of around N60,000 (inclusive of service charge), this is high since I submitted my application in Port Harcourt.

11. Booked Verifiable Flight (free without charges). Kenya Airways from Lagos to Durban.

12. Police Clearance (spent around N25,000), since I did not do it in Lagos.

13. Medical Report spent around N7,000 for the medical test, with a government hospital gave me a hospital report, with their letter-head and still endorsed the medical report document I printed from the visa application website.

14. Radiological Report (the Doctor at the government hospital recommended me to do it with a private diagnostic center where I did mine), spent around N9,000
After doing the test, the hospital gave me a hospital report, with their letterhead, and still endorsed the radiological report document I printed from the visa application website.

15. An official letter confirming provisional acceptance at Durban University of Technology (DUT) and the duration of the course.
Included in this letter is 100% tuition waiver.

16. Letter of Undertaking from DUT, provided by Department of International Education & Partnership

17. Proof of annual medical cover payment from momentum health insurance (paid R5460, roughly around
N165,000 when I paid because I made the payment at the black market price).

18. Proof of membership from momentum health insurance (this was sent to my mail within 24 hours after
paying the R5460)

I return all Glory to GOD

Thank you so much. I have been informed that it has been sent via courier. Should I also expect an E-copy (is that what you mean by digital certificate?

Ejoseblazer:

Hello Ceesnation, I understand your situation but please don't be too perturbed or overstress yourself. I want to believe you got a similar mail like this when SAQA acknowledged the receipt of verification from your university;

Good Day

Please note that additional information was received from the university yesterday. It will now be quality reviewed.
Soon as feedback is received you will be notified.

Kindly note that there is no action required from you.

Kind Regards

A follow-up email from SAQA was sent to me 5 days from the above email. Here is what the email states:

SAQA Application 0200xxxxxxxx. Received additional information. File in comparison phase. Maximum completion date xx-xx-202x

So, in my own case, it took exactly 2 weeks from the date of this verification acknowledgment & 1 week from the date of email follow-up to receive my SAQA evaluation completion with a digital certificate.

Just ignore this; (SAQA website says 2-20 working days) as this is an ideal case, where they do not encounter any challenge during the quality review, which usually involves confirming the accreditation of your program from the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) or whatever body that accredits the institutions within the country you schooled.

In summary, it should take within a month's time or less to get your certificate, just chill and like they said you really don't need to do anything, except it is being asked of you.

All the best!

Many many thanks to you.
My employer has accommodation for me. How do I prove this. They stated it an the financial support letter ... is this sufficient for submission?

qhunlay:

I believe the total amount to be paid is a function of the factors selected:

One (first) qualification submitted: R1700-00
Each subsequent qualification submitted: R850-00
Courier delivery: African continent R275-00

So you will pay between R1975 and R2825

Also, you don't need to send hard copies, just upload your documents and they will contact your school for confirmation.
Travel / Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by Ceesnation: 1:30pm On Mar 19, 2021
Please has anyone ever received a non-complaint email from SAQA?... I received one stating the consent form was not completely filled. Missed DOB (while in a haste). However, I immediately resubmitted. Since then I have not heard from them.
What do I do next?
Do I need to contact my Uni to send them a verification of my certificate. Or just wait for SAQA?
My employer sent me a letter of sponsorship and accommodation. Do I still need to attach personal bank statements?
Can I hand fill the visa form? or use Adobe
Are photocopies of my birth certificate, marriage certificate, passport biodata page supposed to be certified before submission for visa?
Travel / Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by Ceesnation: 2:55pm On Mar 11, 2021

Thank you so much!

Depending on the package but I reckon Chertsey will be a better option than Ryhl in terms of location and a host of other factors like good education for the kids(if there's any in the picture), job opportunities for the other half (if there's one) and also proximity to a familiar community. In terms of cost of living I'm pretty sure Ryhl will be most affordable. I will suggest you look up cost of renting close to your place of work in Chertsey and see if the numbers would work for your finances.

You can use https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent.html to search for accommodation
and https://www.thesalarycalculator.co.uk/salary.php to calculate your take home after tax

Accommodation is usually the biggest expense in the early years so once this is under control, you can pretty much wing everything else.

Yes UK NARIC statement of Comparability test is required if ur degree is from abroad. It will help to equate it to the U.K. standard

Assessment fee is different, it is not refundable and it is what u pay to have ur degree assessed

HCPC is the main organisation and they are the ones responsible for the registration, u have to be HCPC registered to work as a Biomedical Scientist in the U.K.

IBMS is the institute that directs you on the path to take to become HCPC registered. they can help assess ur degree and point out the necessary topups that needs doing before going to HCPC to register

Thanks again Omopapa... so do I start from the NARIC first then IBMS scrutiny before the main HCPC registration? what's the order
Travel / Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Ceesnation: 12:33pm On Sep 04, 2020
omopapa:
1. Do you have to get transcript by hand to send to them or send it separate from my other documents?

You can attach a scanned copy to the application if required

2. Should I get a letter from Medical Science Council of Nigeria or Just include evidence of my registration with the body?

Get details of someone from MLSCN to use as reference. They will contact this person or the organisation to confirm your registration with them. Email addresses MUST be official emails as they don’t accept personal email. You could also get a reference letter from the association to support your application.

3. Can write I am in English-speaking country or a note from my school?

Since your first degree was taught in English, you can get a letter from your uni to that effect.

Another option is UK NARIC English Language Assessment. It costs £59.40 and will confirm your level of English using your submitted documents/qualifications.

4. What the chances of getting licenced and hence getting job using my B.Sc.?

If you can proof that you are already licensed and working in Nigeria and meet other requirements, it should be smooth sailing. Once you are HCPC registered probability of getting a job from Nigeria is VERY high.

Additionally, you shld apply for UK NARIC statement of Comparability test (costs £60) it will equate ur Nigerian BSc to UK Standard.

Good luck

Many thanks for your contributions here.
Please the UK NARIC statement of Comparability test is it part of the documents one need to submit for HCPC registration?
Also is the scrutiny fee same with assessment fee or one has to pay separately for the main assessment.
Pls can you shed more light on IBMS and HCPC ? does one have to apply to both?

Thanks again CC omopapa
