Have you ever wondered how polygraph is conducted to tell when someone lies? Intelligence agencies have been using that tech a long time. This may not be far from it.

Here’s one that should spark no response at all from privacy advocates – at their annual F8 conference, Facebook has revealed that it has a 60 person team working on a new system that will enable users to type by simply thinking of what you want to say.

Yes, Facebook is working on mind-reading. That means all those status updates you thought about posting but didn’t, now all your connections will know what you actually think.
Well, not really, but that’s where the discussion’s undoubtedly going to lead.

The announcement was made by Regina Dugan, the head of Facebook’s secretive ‘Building 8 ’ division which works on their more experimental projects. Dugan, who’s also a former director of the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), explained that their goal is not to read thoughts so much as to provide an easier way to engage in virtual environments - “something as simple as a yes-no brain click”.

Sounds crazy, right? Sounds like something that’s not really real - they couldn’t really be working on a mind-reading system. But actually, this is not the first time Facebook has discussed such a project.
Last June, as part of his first (and only) Facebook Live Q and A session, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg discussed the future of the platform, and its evolution from text to photos to video, with virtual reality being the next logical step. But Zuckerberg also projected even further than that:
“You know, what I think we’re going to get to at the end of the line, past VR, is a world where more than just being able to capture what’s going on in a scene, I think you’re going to be able to capture a thought, what you’re thinking or feeling in it’s ideal and perfect form in your head and be able to share that with the world.”

Zuckerberg then went on to cite research from a team at Berkeley who are monitoring MRI data as people do various day-to-day tasks in order to map their various thought patterns and, essentially, predict what people thinking based on subsequent brain activity. Zuckerberg also noted that research is being conducted into how we might one day be able to transfer memories from one person to another, referring to a study where mice were put through a maze, which they’d learn, then the researchers were able to transfer that maze map onto another mouse who’d never seen the same maze before.

It’s crazy stuff, and as noted, it sounds far-fetched, but such projects are already happening – and they could provide some insight into Facebook’s way of thinking.
But even if that is the broader ambition, Facebook’s keeping a lid on it for now, with Dugan re-assuring the audience that it’s not about invading your thoughts, it’s more about convenience - a “brain mouse for AR,” a means to communicate in virtual environments without the need for devices to track body movements. Facebook also notes that such innovation will be beneficial for people with severe paralysis, similar to how their automated image recognition technology helps the visually impaired (while also providing additional data benefits).

Along this line, Building 8 is also working on a new way for hearing impaired people to ‘hear’ through their skin.

This is next-level stuff, underlining Facebook’s growing ambitions, which seemingly expand in line with its user base. A side effect of this is that Facebook is becoming so big, and is covering so many elements, that it’ll become increasingly difficult for potential competitors to break into the market, meaning Facebook may one day be your only social option.
And you won’t even need to physically log on to use it. It’ll just read your thoughts, deliver you content and present you with the latest updates. Direct to your brain.

Barely 24 hours after its constitution, the Presidential Investigative Committee on alleged infractions by two senior government officials got cracking yesterday.
The committee, headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, is probing suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal and National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Director-General Ayo Oke.

Lawal is alleged to have awarded a N200million contract to a company, Global Vision Limited, linked with him by the Presidential Initiative for the North East (PINE) for the clearing of “invasive plant species” (weeds) in Yobe State.

Oke is being investigated over the $43.4million “covert operations” cash, which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) found in an apartment in Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Contrary to the popular thinking that the NIA hid the $43.4million away from President Muhammadu Buhari, sources in the agency said yesterday that a brief was submitted to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) detailing the cash at hand as part of a comprehensive report for the President. But it was not clear last night whether the President actually got the report.

The Vice President and committee members met yesterday on their two-week mandate.
A source said: “The VP and members of the panel met to set up the structure for their investigation and list those who are likely to be interrogated.
“Members also got copies of the Interim Report which was submitted to the Presidency by the Acting Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu and briefs from Engr. Babachir Lawal and Amb. Ayo Oke.
“The collation of issues to determine was ongoing as at press time .Once it is done, what is left is to isolate others who will appear before the panel, apart from Magu, the SGF and DG NIA. It is a big assignment with the right foundation laid by different memos/briefs already submitted to the Presidency.”

The committee is also expecting details of the operation in Osborne Towers from the EFCC, whose Acting Chairman Magu returned to Abuja yesterday.
Another source, who spoke in confidence, said: “The committee will certainly interact with all those involved in the request and approval of the funds; the remittance of the cash and those in charge of the management of Osborne Towers.
Some lawyers may represent the embattled SGF, the NIA DG, companies and others who are to appear before the committee. But, it could not be immediately ascertained if the committee will be disposed to the engagement of lawyers.

A source said: “This investigation is about the reputation of some individuals and companies who have decided to engage lawyers to be on their defence team.
“Those affected do not want to appear before the committee and get locked in any technicality which may lead to their dismissal or prosecution.
“Their argument is that it is also the standard practice all over the world to get counsel to come along with those being investigated.”

NIA sources insisted last night that the agency did not hide the $43.4million from President Buhari.
A source said: “Contrary to what is being said, the NIA actually did not hide the $43.4million from President Muhammadu Buhari. This will imply that the agency has an ulterior motive.
“What actually happened was that the agency’s brief was submitted to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) detailing the cash at hand, including the $43.4m, as part of a comprehensive report for the President.
“We have all the memos written to ONSA. It is also a good development that the NSA, Gen. Babagana Monguno, is a member of Osinbajo’s committee. We hope that at the appropriate time, he will step aside to either corroborate or deny these memos.”
Apart from the Vice President and Monguno, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami(AGF), is also a member of the committee.

The three-man committee is expected to:
enquire into the circumstances in which the NIA came into possession of the funds; find out how and by whose or which authority the funds were made available to the NIA; and to establish whether or not there has been a breach of the law or security procedure in obtaining custody and use of the funds.

There were indications last night that the EFCC has ended its search and combing operations in Osborne Towers in Lagos in respect of the $43.4million haul.
The operatives drafted for the assignment have returned to Abuja.
But a skeletal surveillance was left in the controversial Apartment 7B.

Also, it was learnt that the anti-graft commission has obtained some vital documents from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on the company used to acquire the apartment by the National Intelligence Agency (CAC).

It was gathered that one of the documents provided a fresh insight into the acquisition of the apartment with EFCC putting another company in Ikeja under watch.
A reliable source, who spoke in confidence, said: “The EFCC has ended its search and combing of apartments in Osborne Towers. Those who went for the operation in Lagos are back to Abuja.
“There is however a surveillance still being out in place in Apartment 7B where over $43.4million was recovered.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “We have also obtained vital documents from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) implicating another company in Ikeja. The company is now under EFCC watch including the profiling of its accounts.

The suspended Director - General of the National Intelligence Agency , Amb . Ayodele Oke, has met with Vice- President Yemi Osinbajo, where he admitted that his agency received the sum of $ 289 , 202 , 382 on the orders of former President Goodluck Jonathan in February 2015 .

President Muhammadu Buhari , on Wednesday , ordered the suspension of Oke over the role of the NIA in the ownership of $ 43 m ( about N13 bn) and other currencies uncovered in Osborne Towers , Ikoyi, Lagos.

Buhari also ordered the suspension of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation , Mr . Babachir Lawal , in connection with his indictment for contract fraud by a Senate ad hoc committee on mounting humanitarian crisis in the North - East .

A top government source , on Thursday , confided in one of our correspondents that the Osinbajo- led committee had directed Oke to submit documents to back his claim.
It was learnt that the suspended NIA boss had also gathered documents which would be formally submitted to the panel showing that the transaction was approved by Jonathan through the embattled former National Security Adviser, Col . Sambo Dasuki ( retd . ) .
It was learnt that the transaction was known as an intervention fund for national security or special services with the aim of fighting insurgency during the six weeks period between February 14 , when the Presidential /National Assembly elections were postponed and March 28 , when the polls were held.
However , operatives of the EFCC are said to be working on the theory that the money was meant for the prosecution of the 2015 general elections .

A source , who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case , said , “ The DG of the NIA has met with Vice - President Osinbajo and will submit documents pertaining to the transaction .
“ The DG admitted on record that the transaction was authorised by former President Jonathan and Col. Sambo Dasuki , and as such , was simply following orders from the commander - in - chief . He will submit memos and other documents as evidence. ”

Explaining how the transaction took place , the source said a memo was raised by the National Petroleum Investment Management Service on February 25 , 2015 , two weeks after the postponement of the presidential election for ‘ security ’ reasons, based on Dasuki ’ s advice .

According to the memo, NAPIMS asked the CBN to release $ 289 , 202 , 382 to the NIA in cash .
The money was received by the NIA and kept in a safe house .

When asked why President Muhammadu Buhari was not briefed on the existence of the cash, the source said , “The DG NIA informed top security people in the government of the existence of the cash.
“ Specifically in January 2016 , a letter was written by the DG NIA to the NSA , Babagana Moguno , on the existence of the cash . The memo exists and will also be submitted to the panel. ”

It was gathered that one of the posers the NIA would solve was why the apartment , where the money was kept , was registered in the name of the wife of the DG, Mrs. Folasade Oke.

“ One question the suspended NIA boss must answer when he meets with the panel is why the apartment used for an official matter was registered in his wife ’ s name , ” the top government source said .
Efforts to get the NNPC through the Group General Manager , Corporate Affairs , Ndu Ughamadu , were not successful as his mobile indicated that it was not reachable .A detailed text message was sent to him on the matter , but he had yet to respond as of the time of filing this report on Thursday .

NAPIMS is a subsidiary of the NNPC .
Attempts to get comments from the CBN were also not successful as repeated calls made to the acting Director, Corporate Communications , CBN, Mr Isaac Okorafor , did not connect while a text message sent to him on the issue had yet to be responded to as of press time on Thursday.

Panel to invite NAPIMS , CBN officials , others
It was learnt that the Osinbajo- led panel would also invite the Governor of the CBN , Mr . Godwin Emefiele, and some directors of the apex bank to explain why such a huge sum of money was released in such a manner.
One of our correspondents also gathered that officials of NAPIMS would also be invited to explain why the money , which did not go through appropriations , was released .

EFCC to monitor airports , get warrants to search more properties.
It was learnt that the EFCC was working on the theory that more of such huge funds , belonging to the NIA, might be stashed in some secret locations .
A source told The PUNCH that the commission had obtained warrants to search more properties in urban areas of the country.
One of our correspondents learnt that the EFCC had asked sister agencies to be on the lookout at various airports to ensure that none of the affected persons was allowed to flee the country.

Senate panel expresses doubt on Osinbajo - led probe
Meanwhile , the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis , whose interim investigative report indicted the SGF , Lawal , has expressed doubt on the probe ordered by the Presidency .

The Chairman of the Senate panel , Senator Shehu Sani , while featuring on a breakfast programme by Television Continental , TVC Breakfast , on Thursday , said an investigation of the SGF by the Presidency could give Lawal a soft landing eventually .
He stated that the EFCC , the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission and the Nigeria Police could be asked to probe the SGF .

Sani added , “ What I am saying in this aspect is that the best institution to investigate the SGF is one recognised by the law (to carry out the task ), which is the EFCC , ICPC and the police .
“ That is why we are being very cautious in endorsing the investigation in the Presidency . What I am afraid of is soft landing, which I don ’ t think will be in the best interest of the anti - corruption crusade . ”

Following alleged lopsidedness in the on-going registration of candidates by Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) University of Ibadan Chapter, Dr Deji Omole has called on the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede to voluntarily resign from office.

The academic union also asked the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu to call the registrar to order to lessen the difficulty being experienced by the candidates.
Dr Omole said the board had outlived its usefulness and the best thing is to scrap it and allow universities design their standard examination for their own candidates.
He noted that the fact that a mock examination was stopped due to logistic reasons underscored the point of alleged incompetence of the Registrar, noting that if candidates could not do mock how sure are they to pass the examination.

He said: “Why will anybody make life difficult for candidates whose parents are struggling to live under the terrible condition the government has made them to live in?"
“Why would somebody introduce changes that are only known by members of the board? We have made case for the scrapping of this body because in the present instance the introduction of different registration procedures has turned candidates to victims of fraud.”while different centres now make business by arranging with private schools who bring all their students in group to come and register while children of the masses look on.”

“This is a failed approach to change and the Registrar admitted this with the cancellation of the mock examination. How can we ensure that the candidates prepare well for the exams when they spend weeks waiting for Personal Identification Number and are at the mercy of registration officers who force them to go to cybercafe where they have arrangements to first create their profile before they can have their PIN”

A former president, Goodluck Jonathan, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele; and anti-corruption chief, Ibrahim Magu are amongst some high-profile personalities that are expected to be questioned by a presidential panel investigating the mysteries surrounding the over N13 billion recovered from an apartment in Lagos last Wednesday, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.

The panel will also question the suspended Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Ayodele Oke, and his predecessor, Olaniyi Oladeji.
The owner of the building where the money was found and the EFCC official who led the operation will also be questioned by the three-man panel, which was convened on Wednesday, PREMIUM TIMES understands.

The National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, who is also a member of the investigating committee is also expected to brief the committee on what he knows following reports that Mr. Oke briefed him on the NIA operation prior to the discovery of the money.
President Muhammadu Buhari named Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to lead the committee, with Attorney General Abubakar Malami and Mr. Monguno being the remaining two members, the presidency said in a statement.

The constitution of the panel came as the presidency
announced the immediate suspension of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and Mr. Oke for their respective roles in the grass cutting scandal and the over N13 billion recovered in Lagos respectively.
“The president also ordered a full-scale investigation into the discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, over which the National Intelligence Agency, NIA, has made a claim,” presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, said Wednesday.

Mr. Adesina’s statement appears to indicate that the presidency has already accepted the NIA’s argument that the money belongs to it.
The investigative panel was tasked to unravel the “circumstances in which the NIA came into possession of the funds, how and by whose or which authority the funds were made available to the NIA, and to establish whether or not there has been a breach of the law or security procedure in obtaining custody and use of the funds,” Mr. Adesina said.
In a separate probe, the same committee is also to look into the allegations against Mr. Lawal in the grass cutting scandal.

THE IKOYI RECOVERY
Operatives of the EFCC, acting on a tip-off on April 12, said they found $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23,218,000 hidden inside an apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi.
The funds were valued at over N13 billion based on prevailing exchange rate set by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
But the development, which could have been another success in the ongoing campaign against graft, became problematic for the Buhari administration following conflicting reports about the ownership of the money.
A day after news of the recovery gripped the country, the EFCC approached the Federal High Court , FHC, to secure a forfeiture order.
Muslim Hassan, a judge at the Lagos Division of the FHC, granted the anti-graft agency’s request and gave any potential claimant until May 5, else the entire N13 billion would be permanently forfeited to the Nigerian government.

On April 14, Mr. Oke told PREMIUM TIMES the NIA concealed the money in the apartment for undisclosed operations the foreign intelligence office was conducting.
Our sources said Mr. Oke had approached Mr. Magu to order EFCC operatives who broke into the apartment to back down while the operation was still underway, but the EFCC boss declined his pleas.
But the security chief would not comment on the purpose of the fund, telling this newspaper: “You don’t expect me to tell you that.”
On April 15, Governor Nyesom Wike said the money belonged to Rivers State, having allegedly been plundered by his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi.
“We have facts to prove that the said money belongs to the Rivers State Government,” Mr. Wike said. “The Federal Government must return our money.”
But Mr. Amaechi, now Minister of Transport, strongly denied the allegations and threatened to sue those who publicly accused him of being the owner of the money.

The uncertainties notwithstanding, President Buhari directed that the money be returned to the CBN and ordered preliminary findings into the matter.
Why Osinbajo’s panel may question Jonathan, Emefiele, others
Sources close to the panel told PREMIUM TIMES its members commenced work on Wednesday afternoon and identified some key individuals whose information would be useful to their work.

The panel, which has two weeks to conclude its activities, will invite the individuals for the unique insight they might have on the matter.
On his part, Mr. Jonathan is expected to be questioned over claims that he approved the operation for which the NIA allegedly obtained the money.

Presidency and security sources told PREMIUM TIMES on April 14 that Mr. Jonathan approved the funds for the 30-year old secret service agency after its immediate past boss, Mr. Oladeji, alerted him to the need for some “crucial and covert security projects”.
Since the presidency said the person who authorised the funds for the NIA would be crucial, it indicates that Mr. Buhari might not have prior knowledge of the operation.

A source said should Mr. Oke’s reported stance that Mr. Jonathan approved the money be found to be true, then the former president would have to be questioned.However, the former president may not be summoned, our sources said, as the committee members will arrange to meet with Mr. Jonathan, who left office in 2015, at the former president’s preferred point.

The panel will also summon Mr. Emefiele, who has led the CBN since 2014.
The apex bank is believed to have released the money to the NIA as a way of making the funding of the ‘covert operation’ entirely secret, PREMIUM TIMES understands.
The recovered funds had the packaging and inscriptions of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company on them, indicating that they might have come directly from the CBN. The dollar denominations were also itemised with serialised bar codes.
But the CBN already cast doubts about its connection to the money.
“I cannot say if the notes the NIA is claiming came from the CBN,” its spokesperson, Isaac Okorafor, told PREMIUM TIMES over the weekend.
Mr. Oke and Mr. Olajide will be grilled by the committee to explain the NIA’s roles.
Although Mr. Olajide left NIA since 2013, and handed over to Mr. Oke, security sources told PREMIUM TIMES he initiated the clandestine projects and forwarded the proposal to Mr. Jonathan for approval.
The two security chiefs are expected tell the committee about the project in detail, sources said.
Sources also said the panel will take testimonies from Mr. Monguno, even though he’s a member. This is largely due to claims by NIA sources that the NSA was briefed on the project and knew about the money.
Mr. Magu will be invited alongside his subordinate who led the operation for their respective roles in the recovery, our sources said.

One of the most widely-asked questions centred on the owner the apartment where the money was recovered in particular and the Osborne Towers itself in general.
Shortly after EFCC announced the recovery, media reports mentioned a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adamu Mu’azu, as the owner of the building and possible owner of the funds.
But the former Bauchi governor has since denied being the current owner the property , even though he acknowledged he built it.
“I acquired the land and jointly developed it using a bank loan, I obtained about nine (9) years ago,” Mr. Mu’azu said. “However, all the flats have been sold to prospective buyers in order to pay back the loan.”
For this reason, our sources said, the panel intends to invite the owner of the apartment. But it is not immediately clear if the members have identified the owner as at Wednesday night.

Akinwunmi Ambode has instructed the execution of inmates on death row in the state prisons, including the General-Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly, Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, a.k.a Rev. King.
The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Adeniji Kazeem, disclosed this at a news conference on Tuesday.

According to him, the state had begun reviewing the matter after prison officials complained of the antics of some death row inmates who felt that they had certain rights which excluded them from being executed.

The Attorney-General assured that, unlike previous administrations, Ambode would sign the necessary documents to execute those on death row.
Kazeem said: “Very soon, you will see the action of this government on that issues, we are reviewing the case on Rev. King and others on death row.
He added: “Lots of people are on death row, Rev. King is not the only one on death row, it is on the instruction of Ambode that I visited the prisons recently and I discuss the issue with the prison officials and they expressed their concerns.
“We are moving in that direction of signing. The prison officials said we need to look at that seriously. Those on death row are beginning to think they have some rights. We are going to move in that direction, you will hear from me, but I will not tell you the exact date.”

The Supreme Court had on February 27, 2016 affirmed the death sentence passed on King by the Appeal Court.
The condemned cleric was arraigned before the Lagos High Court in Ikeja on September 26, 2006, on six counts of murder of a member of his church, Ann Uzoh, and attempted murder of five other members.
He was said to have poured petrol on the deceased and the five other victims and set them on fire for allegedly committing fornication.
Uzoh died on August 2, 2006, 11 days after the incident, as a result of the injuries which she sustained from the burns.
She was said to have been 65 per cent burnt in the fire incident. The trial judge, Justice Olubunmi Oyewole (now a Justice of the Court of Appeal), had in his judgement delivered on January 11, 2007, convicted Ezeugo and sentenced him to 20 years imprisonment on each of the five counts of attempted murder and death sentence for murder.

Nigeria’s former attorney general, Bello Adoke, named as an alleged beneficiary in the $1.3 billion Malabu oil scam, has said he may not return home until he gets some concessions from the Nigerian government.
“I will definitely come back, if I have the assurance that they will not harm me, they will not humiliate me any further, they will respect the laws of the land,” Mr. Adoke told The Cable in an interview published on Tuesday.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said Mr. Adoke, who was AGF from 2010-2015, participated in the alleged fraud that marred the transfer of OPL 245 licence from Malabu Oil and Gast Limited to Royal Dutch Shell and Italy’s ENI.
Italian prosecutors also accused Mr. Adoke and 11 others, including ex-Petroleum Minister Dan Etete and Shell and ENI officials, of wrongdoings when the deal was struck in 2011.

The EFCC accused Mr. Adoke of being on the run, and the anti-graft office earlier this month sought a court order to compel him to appear for trial .
But Mr. Adoke said he would remain in The Netherlands, where he said he has been studying since 2015, unless there are competent assurances from Nigerian authorities that he won’t be humiliated.
“If I am arrested and granted bail, I hope they will obey the court and not treat me like they have been treating others, they will not scandalise me, and there will be no mob trial, media circus, certainly I will return,” Mr. Adoke said.

He, however, expressed doubts that the prevailing political atmosphere in the country could afford him such privileges after his return.
“But I will tell you something: that is not the environment that exists in Nigeria today. That is where my fear lies.
“Also, I cannot underestimate the extent to which those after me can go considering the enormous power and influence they have in the government of today,” Mr. Adoke said.

The former attorney general controversially approved the transfer of $801 million from a Nigerian government account into the private accounts of an ex-convict, Dan Etete. A large part of the money is believed to have gone as kick-backs to officials of the Goodluck Jonathan administration, including the former president and Mr. Adoke. Both men have, however, denied the claims.

The $801 million was part of the total $1.3 billion Shell and ENI paid for OPL 245, considered one of the richest oil blocks in Africa. While $1.1 billion of the money was paid directly into a Nigerian government account in London, Shell had earlier paid about $200 million as signature bonus. It was the whole $1.1 billion that Mr. Adoke ordered be transferred into Malabu accounts controlled by Mr. Etete, but court cases in England by middlemen, stalled the full transfer.

A former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has confirmed THISDAY’s exclusive report on Tuesday that his apartment was one of the many searched by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), following the discovery of N13.3 billion in a neighbouring apartment (Flat 7B) at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, by the commission last week.

In a follow-up to the information provided by the whistle blower who blew the lid on the cash found in Apartment 7B and further information that there was more cash stashed away in another apartment in the same luxury complex, the EFCC had obtained a warrant from the court to search all the flats in the building.
Accordingly, it notified all the occupants of the building that its operatives would search all the flats to ascertain the veracity of the information provided by the whistle blower who works in the complex.
By Monday, the commission had searched 21 of the apartments including those belonging to the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, who developed the sky-rise residential building.

A statement on Tuesday by Obi’s media aide, Mr. Val Obienyem, said the former governor has confirmed the search by the EFCC of Flat 1 occupied by him in the building.
Responding to enquiries from the press, Obienyem, who revealed that the ex-governor’s primary residence is in Onitsha, Anambra State, he added that the apartment rented by Obi’s wife, Margaret, is usually used by the former governor anytime he is in Lagos.
Obienyem, who cautioned mischief makers against linking Obi to the cash haul, made it clear that the entire occupants of the building were also searched.
“Even though Mr. and Mrs. Obi had travelled to the UK and U.S. for speaking engagements, when he was informed of the search, he quickly sent the keys to the 4-bedroom apartment to the EFCC via courier today (yesterday).
“He even left instructions that we should allow them to also search his Onitsha residence should there be need for that.
“After a thorough search, nothing was found in the apartment,” Obienyem said.
Obienyem revealed that during the search, one of the operatives of the EFCC was overheard expressing doubt if the apartment had anything to do with Obi, citing the fact that it was the simplest in terms of furnishing and reflective of his ascetic lifestyle.

A source also revealed to THISDAY that Obi learnt of the search warrant obtained from the EFCC from his neighbour, Chairman/CEO of Zinox Technologies Limited, Mr. Leo Stan Ekeh, who has two children living in the apartment building.
One of his sons, Nnamdi, 24, who is a resident of Osborne Towers, is a budding entrepreneur and founder of the online shopping portal Yudala.
Ekeh reportedly called Obi at the weekend to inform him that the EFCC had searched his children’s flats and advised him to send his key from London so that his flat could be searched likewise.
Obi, THISDAY gathered, promptly asked his wife to send the key via courier to a family friend to let the EFCC operatives into his flat.

What kind of presidency is this? Is it confirmation that has stop him from performing as expected? The constitution has made it that he can remain in acting capacity but for a period not exceeding four year. What's the big deal with confirmation. This theatric is becoming too much.
