You don't need IELTS to apply for study permit and most schools if not all sef don't require Nigerian Students to write an English Language Test. So move on to next phase of this process, whatever that is for you. Fgahandel: Good morning colleagues. I am so new here. A friend referred me to this nairaland traveling page. I have been reading messages fir few days now and getting some tips. Though I plan to write my IELTS exam soon for study permit. I need a lot of direction on where to start first . Should I write my IELTS exam first or are there courses I could do in Canada without IELTS? Then what next ? I am a novice here, but I am determined to this course , because I know with the right information, commitment, direction from colleagues here and with God, I will make it to Canada. Please and please I need your help Thanks. |

1. The PGC program (Construction Project Management) is still in the same industry as my MSc Architecture. 2. I have very good experience in Construction Management as highlighted on my CV. 3. In my SOP, I stated that most of the knowledge I have in Construction Management were picked up on the go via experience in the field and that I have no robust education in it especially since the curriculum of an MSc in Architecture didn't go in depth with Construction Management. 4. I highlighted the challenges of Construction Management in Nigeria citing papers and articles written on it. And how I will fit into solving some of the challenges with my new and quality education in Construction Management. 5. I stated how most complex infrastructure projects in Nigeria are handled by foreign experts because of their sound education in Construction Management and how I want to contribute to reducing the over dependency on foreign experts thereby contributing to the Nigerian economy. 6. I added links to several job posts highlighting demand for the role of a Construction Manager with some of them paying in foreign currency right here in Nigeria. So in general I just tried as much as possible to focus the attention of the VO on the benefits of the course I am going for for me and my country. ultrazone: Congratulations bro. In your SOP, how did you explain the fact that you already had an MSc and still applied to a PGC program? I need insights. Thanks. |

LONG POST ALERT! As a young guy growing up, the Nigerian dream in my Family then was to Japa. Those were the days of US Visa lottery. The moment I turned 18, my brothers initiated me into the Japa mind set. All my working years after graduation were used to chase Japa until 2014 when Canada's refusal then became the last straw that broke the Camel's back. 2014 wasn't a great year for me. I received several Ls and breakfast from different directions. A week before Canada served me breakfast, my girlfriend of 3 years dumped me because I really didn't look like someone who wants to settle down. All I was chasing was Japa. Then I lost my Job, lost a substantial amount of money to an investment, and then a subcontractor ran away with a large sum of money for a project I was handling. By the time it was middle of 2014, I didn't have the energy to reapply for Visa again. I told my Brothers that I was not doing again. So I got another job. A great job. Got married, had a daughter and started building my life here in Naija with no penchant for Japa again. Then last year, my wife started pushing me to try again. I reluctantly agreed. I was in a better life status now. So I applied and here we are! Below is my profile and the document submitted for my application. A. Profile - Married with a Daughter - BSc and MSc Architecture in Nigeria - Going to Centennial College for PGC in Construction Project Management - Self Sponsored - Resuming in Fall B. Documents Submitted 1. IMM forms - IMM 1294e - IMM 5645e 2. Letter of Acceptance 3. Passport Data Page (No travel history) 4. Digital Photo 5. Proof of Funds - 4 months SOA (22m closing balance. Lump sum of around 6 to 7m in and out every other month but not strange to the account. I didn't bother to explain) - First semester Tuition fee receipt - Letter of employment / Confirmation Letter/Promotion letter. - Pay slip - Work ID 6. Client information - Letter of explanation (6 pages) - CV - Home tie documents - Marriage certificate - Wife's Birth Cert - Wife's Change of surname docs - Wife's Passport Data page - Daughter's Birth Certificate - Wedding pictures and pictures over the years of Marriage. - Property Documents - Land receipt - Deed of Assignment - Registered Survey Plan - ongoing Construction docs and pics - Academic Documents - BSc and MSc certs - NYSC Cert - IELTS Cert - I added this since I have it and especially since I answered Yes to the question of whether I did an English Language test in the Study permit form - Other Certs that showed interest in Project Management - Police Character Certificate I pray that the Lord will answer all the prayers of everyone waiting for their PPR and for those delayed, don't give up. It will end in praise in Jesus name. Finally, Do IT Yourself. I did it all by myself in 2014, got denied. I did it by myself in 2022, got approved. Do IT Yourself. Just read wide. Read this thread and Read the IRCC website. Between this thread and the IRCC website, you have all the information you need for a successful application. Thanks everyone! CentennialGuy: And it's PPR! lilangel20: My funding was 16,500cad. I got a tuition waiver in which i am to pay just 5,030cad. Meaning I would be left with 11,000cad This is what I think you need to explain clearly in your Letter of Explanation. Doing the maths for the VO even. And backing it with the documents for the funding and tuition fee waiver. Adding your own personal statement of account with some decent money there that shows you can handle other miscellaneous expenses will be great too. |

Nah. Don't be like that. People will only respond to what they have correct answers to otherwise they might be misleading people. Also sometimes the people who have answers to your question might not have been online for a long time and to go back and read every single post might be hard unless you mentioned them. Questions are still being answered here everyday. Samxx: I've noticed that most people don't respond anymore on here once they are past that stage or if the questions has nothing to do with them or their current stage , But you guys should remember you were once at that stage too . Been waiting for this landing gist. Congrats again. I hope by the time people like us will be travelling in August by God's grace, this no PCR test if fully vaccinated would have circulated very well. buchito1: Hi guys! Guess who's in Canada!!
LANDING GIST!!!! BRACE YOURSELF
So my trip was Lagos - Vancouver via Ethiopian Airline by 1:40pm wasn't a smooth one, but I thank God..
Arrived the airport very early, but the queue at the airport no be here! Airport was crowded, scattered, nothing was orderly at the Airport. After waiting for almost 1hour on the queue, one devilish immigration officer eventually told me to join a wrong line, and I lost my spot, and had to go back to the queue again! I almost comot my boxer swear for this guy!
He just kept apologising, that's what calmed me down sha. Got to Ethiopian Airline/Naija Immigration checks, was sha asked for my Passport, Acceptance Letter, Arrive Can, Vaccination Card, Covid-19 TEST PCR (which I eventually did, cause I just didn't want any issue and problems.) they told a Chinese lady there to go get a Covid-19 Test and I'm sure she missed the flight, and that was all.
Going through checks to board my flight, begging and taxing everywhere at Naija Immigration, I no give anyone 10kobo, cause no be their papa gimme money I use apply for Visa or pay any of my expenses, my check-in bags were searched and unfortunately, those wicked Naija Immigration seized my body lotion, body and anti persperants deodorants was 3, like 5 hair cream, everything seized was worth almost 15K. (I eventually found out, I wasn't meant to check in those kinda stuffs) Guys please learn from me. Don't check in with those sorta stuffs, they should be included inside your boxes. Begged and begged this woman, she no gree, gave me the option of taking it back to my fam outside, family wey don begin dey go house, or trashing it there( which kine mumu trash? Na them go use am, BASTARDDDSSS) I eventually found out na money she dey find, but unfortunately, I didn't have cash with me. Gave out all my naira. Dem no born me well give am $100 notes cause na only wetin I carry be that.
Eventually I was the 2nd to the last person to board on the plane. Almost missed the flight. Was running like a FOOL! Immediately I boarded, wasn't up to 8mins, we took off . ENROUTE >>>>>>>ADDIS ABABA (5hours 20mins)
Food was terrible, met Nigerians that were leaving the country. Addis Ababa Airport is really beautiful, see difference between Naija Airport and Ethiopian Airport nau. Everything orderly and arranged. Didn't stay at the Airport for up to 40mins. Got into my next flight to Toronto, longest journey of my life (16hours 20mins)!
Guys my ass became numb! Thank God it was a night flight, I just kept sleeping and watching movies on my phone. Couldn't watch their movies cause the earphone they gave me was trashy. Almost couldn't hear anything with it. With the whole noise from the aircraft. Though they had good collections of movies.
Fast forward >>>>> We landed Toronto Airport, the airport is a beauty! Jesus! Beauty at it's peak. Everything was too organised. I kept asking God who did this to Naija? Cause it's just not fair! Was going with the crowd, omo guys follow who know Road, and keep asking questions. Everybody in Canada is always happy to help in anyway they can.
I went straight to the Immigration Officers, I was fortunate, I didn't spend up to 15mins on the queue before it got filled up and crowded.
There was this stand where one Immigration Officer was loud and asking this Naija guy plenty of questions! In my mind I was like, God please don't let me go to this same guy! Pleaseeeeeee! Naso e reach my turn for Immigration, ghen ghen! Na that same man them post me go! Quickly told my siblings on WhatsApp to pray for me to pass this Immigration checks, they told me only my mama prayers should sort that out for me. And,
Guys guess what? This Man asked me for just my PASSPORT!!! That was all! And asked me how long I'd be studying and who my sponsor was, and where my school is. I didn't spend up to 45 seconds with him. And he printed my permit. Like I was like really? How? Covid-19 Test? Introduction Letter? Acceptance Letter? Proof of Fund? ArriveCan? Tuition Receipts? Vaccination Card? Everything wey i print out? Baba ask me something at least nah... Nothing! Only my Passport! Is God not wonderful? Loll.. He is for sure!
Proceeded to my next flight to Vancouver (Air Canada) The queue was terribly long. Was on queue for almost 50mins. After checks, I begin run again, normal level. I was like the second to the last person to board. Immediately, we left. Another 5hours flight! God I was tired of flying! This journey ain't for the weak. I angrily forced myself to sleep. And kept seeing the series on my phone.
Finally, we arrived Vancouver! But unfortunately, my bags weren't complete. My bags were missing, they tracked it, and saw its still at Toronto, it didn't come in with the flight. Air Canada fall my hands for that one. Was disappointed. My apartment to the Airport is almost an hour drive. They offered to deliver it to me anyway, make i still dey observe them.
Guys I stepped out of the Airport in Vancouver, and the COLD that hit me, blood of Jesus Christ! I never believed it! It was just 12° ohh!! And to think Vancouver has the best weather in Canada? Haaaaa!
Na why people full here and it's extremely expensive. Guys make person no lie give you, Canada is extremely COLD!!!!!! Thank God for my cousin who came to pick me up at the Airport.
It's 5:55am as I type this, and we're on 4°c, so prepare yourself please, and come with your winter jacket socks, head warmer and hand gloves, yes even if our own for Naija na rubbish, carry am come like that, e dey useful! Thanks to my sister and a friend in Vancouver that forced me to buy it.
So in a nutshell, I thank God for a safe trip into Canada. When I sit and reminisce on it, omo! This Canada isn't for the weak! I thank God for this platform (Nairaland), y'all are a blessing, also met good people that have turned friends through Nairaland.! A bigger chunk of thanks goes to my FAMILY. Without them, I wouldn't be here. Mehn, y'all are the real MVP!
The whole journey wouldn't have started at the first place. Those delayed, please don't relent, please, it's definitely gonna be worth it in the end, those waiting for an update on their app, please keep praying and keep being optimistic, God would definitely perfect your application.
Guys story don finish, make i go back to sleep. I had to do this, make una no think say I don run, which I can't.
It has ended in praise for me. I hope it does same to each and everyone here.
Thank you. |

You still have more than enough time to get the two doses in before May. Go and get the first dose this week. It's seamless and doesn't take time at this primary health centers especially if you registered online before going. Don't use your own hand pour sand sand for your garri so that it won't be lack of vaccination that will make you not be able to travel in May when your PPR finally drops. And you will also be saving money and stress of having to go for a pre-departure PCR test. Teekay20: Good evening everyone, please I am still waiting on God and IRCC for my PPR. My school resumes on the 11th of May but I believe PPR go drop before then. Is it true that if I am not vaccinated I won't be allow to travel? What if I go for the first shot, will that count? |

If he did his medical at IOM Lagos, it's possible that he didn't get vaccinated then. IOM Lagos didn't have the vaccine when I did my medicals there. But of course you are right that if you are not vaccinated, you are not leaving this country. Me I have kuku collected first dose at a Primary health care since then. Going for second dose this Friday. Nothing go pour sand sand for this my Canada garri. Creativeowos: Smile. Am not understanding o, how come you were able to do medicals without being vaccinated because i remember they do ask and those who aren't vaccinated would be vaccinated immediately . If you're not vaccinated then you are not leaving this country, even at the airport you would be asked if not you won't be allowed to travel. You dey fear vaccine ni |

OkukuOne: 1. Thanks for this, but my friend did when he went via Express Entry in Port Harcourt. will find out more on this.
Did you open the link below to search for CIC panel physicians in Nigeria? You might be working on an assumption of what your friend did
https://secure.cic.gc.ca/pp-md/pp-list.aspx
2.so the upfront medical does not expire?
All medicals are valid for one year
3. see attached Evidence of School Payment Platform
What you attached still look like something you will need a form A for
4. As part of the document req'd for her Student Permit
Again, transcript or even your WES evaluation for that matter is not an absolute necessity for study permit application. You can submit it if you want but it will probably be more useful if she took courses back in school that explains why she's going for the PSW course she's going for in Canada
5. if Gift deed is better, someone should be kind to share existing format to tailor ours.
I know Buchito used Gift deed but his flight is probably airborne right now. If no one responds to you on this, you can probably mention him and hopefully he sees it when he is settled
5a. Planning on paying only for only one-semester. Are you of the opinion I make full payment to increase her chances? that will decrease my dorm account balance. which is preferable, paying half and having more POF of USD9,900 + 2.5m or paying full and having less POF of USD6,200 + N2,5m is better?
Paying full tuition is a good thing but it doesn't give any guarantee of an approval. The impression of the VO concerning your total application package is what sways the outcome one way or the other. So I won't say one or the other is better. Both works as long as you do a breakdown and proper explanation in your SOP/LOE |

Let me give my own two cents before the gurus you listed come online to give you a more robust response. 1. You can't do medicals in those cities you listed. IOM and Qlife are the only Canadian accredited panel physicians for their medicals. IOM is available in Abuja and Lagos. Qlife is available only in Lagos. https://secure.cic.gc.ca/pp-md/pp-list.aspx2. You can do your upfront medical anytime. Before you submit your application or even after you have submitted your application. The date and time is up to you to decide. 3. I don't know if you can wire money abroad without form A. I guess the gurus will give you a better response on this but I do know that if you have a dollar card, you can pay directly on a platform like flywire by direct debit. 4. I am assuming this transcript you talked about here is for the Visa application? If so, I don't think transcript is an absolute necessity for Visa application. 5. You are better of doing a gift deed for her living expenses than that fixed deposit. I don't know how to do a gift deed because I didn't need it in my application but I'm sure the gurus will put you through when they respond to you. 5a. What's the size of your family? It is important that after you've paid her school fees for the one year complete and removed the living expenses plus extra for miscellaneous, you should still have enough to take care of yourself and family that will be here while she's gone. The calculation you did here appears okay. Expect more input from the gurus. 6. This is going to be a big reach. Her education and work experience doesn't correlate with what she's going for at all in my opinion. So perhaps getting the supporting documents from the old people's home as a volunteer could be a game changer for it. That should help you spin a case for going for that course. Wait for the gurus to give you better perspective. OkukuOne: Makano, thanks for your response.
I will appreciate if the likes of Frankrobbn1, makano, scott99tish, Tobe1997, @ketima, CentennialGuy, @Anon123, @Teemenzo and others to give me directives.
I actually went back to read as advised. I have the below questions to ask and I will be glad the gurus in the house guide me and my wife to apply;
1. Do anyone know of any Canada accredited Medical hospital/Laboratory that My wife can do her medicals? We prefer Port Harcourt, Benin and Warri. Please, kindly share details on this.
2. when is it appropriate to do the Upfront medicals? She has gotten admission. waiting for Int'l Passport. should we do the upfront medical 2 days to her application submission?
3. I see a lot of people talking about payment of tuition, acceptance, and application fees via ATM (Master/Verve) Cards. If one has a dorm account, can't the tuition and acceptance fees be wired straight from my account to the school account? The school provided such platform as well.
4. in place of her transcript from her school, can she use WES Evaluation since that has already been evaluated in Canada. I think that should suffice.
5. I am her husband and the sponsor. My work carries me outside the country and i am paid in dollars. However, since the plan began, i decided not to touch spend money from my dorm account again (though is small) so that we can build it up since she will be needing it as part of her documents.
One of my friends advise that we do a fixed deposit for her to the tune of 4m (10,00CAD) which we stand as living expenses. The reason for this is that, in her SOP, I promise to be sending her (1000USD) monthly, however, peravendure I default and I couldn't meet up, she can go ahead and use the money in the fixed deposit already in her name for her leaving expenses. Or should i do a gift deed or what is the best approach on this? if gift deed is there any sample within i can lash on?
5a. Her program is a one year program. her tuition is about 9,500CAD. I will pay one semester in full + already 500CAD paid already for acceptance. Money i will be having in my account after paying her school fees and gifting her 4m (10,000CAD) will be roughly about 10,000USD and N2,500,000. what is your thought on this?
6. my wife is also a baker but studied Accounting in Education. The admission she got is in Personal Support Acute-Worker in NBCC. In trying to marry all of this together, we are trying to get supporting document from Old people's home that she is a volunteer in there. Her account is not doing so well. her account should between 300k to 500k when we will be applying for her Study Permit. Or what do you think is the best way to marry her B.Sc, her business to the admission gottten in a different field that will not raise suspicion?
Big thanks, in anticipation to your responses.

They are all good colleges. You can use their fees as basis for comparison. But a note on Centennial College - if you are going for a two years course and a full Summer break is important to you, then maybe consider other colleges. Most, if not all, of Centennial's two-year courses are completed in 16 months straight with no summer break in between. They operate a continuous program offer model. I don't know if this obtains in the other colleges you listed, so you might have to look out for that. tonnymexx: Good morning everyone,
Please which among college can you advice me to apply for. Centennial college Seneca college Conestoga college Cambrian college etc |
