Afam4eva: If it was the older generation that were in-charge of the entertainment industry, it wouldn't thrive the way it is thriving today. So, it still re-enforces my point that age plays a very big part.
hmm ok. I think ur comparing apples to oranges.

But just remember that the old people in government today were all young when they got involved. Obasanjo was in his 30s when he first became head of state. Gowon was in his early 30s. Ojukwu was also in his early 30s. etc. All were younger than Fashola by at least a decade. All over Africa, all d dictators we have today were young when they took control of their countries and turned the continent into a bloody, violent mess. Many never left. although with age, they are less violent but the sense of ownership is still there. d feeling that they own the country.

What I believe is that they shouldn't have even be there in d first place. we need educated, wise, productive leaders. not showy, flashy, controlling leaders (whether old or young). Ex Fashola was a very educated, accomplished lawyer before entering politics. He entered under the tutelage of Tinubu, his predecessor. So growth really builds on itself. yea we credit fashola for being a great governor but much of the foundation was laid before he arrived by tinubu (first governor of lagos under democratic government -1999). Even in a place like Osun state, the current governor over there, Aregbeshola, was a commissioner for works and housing under Tinubu. I think it's too early, 1999 is not that long ago, to expect miracles. things will get better gradually.

If we don't want to repeat past mistakes, I would encourage Nigerian youth to be more civically engaged and be involved in whatever way they can rather than spending all their time dancing in clubs or jiving to p-square/wizkid, they should spend some of their youthful energy in cultivating themselves as leaders of their communities. if d local communities are strong, the country will be strong.

J12: The most successful people in Nigeria are not in entertainment.
I agree with you. but entertainment is a flashy industry so it seems like we are only successful in entertainment when actually we are doing ok in a lot of areas (at least when compared within d african continent).
but all over the world though, when we look internationally, blacks typically are more entertainment inclined.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Go Better With Time by cfours:
oh well
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Go Better With Time by cfours:
Afam4eva: The only industry that is making progress in Nigeria in the Entertainment Industry(Music, Movies etc). if every other industries were succeeded like the entertainment industry, we won't be complaining. Our Musicians are now rubbing shoulders with the best in the world and their music are been played in clubs the world over. Loads of people have been employed through the music industry. The same thing applies to the movie industry. The reason why this is possible is because of the age range of people running the show. Imagine if we had people like these in different parastatals of government...Even in government itself, the few people who have separated themselves from the lot are usually the younger ones.
Therein lies your answer.
You have answered your own question!!!
Look all over the world, how many african or black dominated societies, communities are successful? NONE
Where do you typically find any successful black person whether in Africa or abroad? Entertainment and Sport
GBAM.
the problem is not Nigeria. But symptom of being african/black persons in general. we are generally charismatic but lack self-discipline and grit. always wanna have fun and value material success hence we typically succeed in fun or showy things like entertainment and sport. lol from ghana with azonto to congo with makossa. nigeria ain't all dat exceptional but we have huge population and are loud which is why we stand out in that area.

of course there might be exceptions to the rule. some village or black country somewhere that is thriving. but those will be exceptions.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Feminism - Why Women In General (especially Black Women) Have Been Duped By It!! by cfours:
biolabee: Hmmm.. Noted.

So are you saying all maidens in Biblical times were minors (less than 16) in todays parlance
most likely.
even for the ones that were late to marry (17,18,19yr olds) aka old spinsters will still be married off to men who are significantly older than them. old enough to be their fathers or sometimes grandfathers

gluv01: He denied paternity but tattooed the little boys name clearly on his arm. What a life Lie!
tattooing name on arm doesn't mean he cares for his child or is there for his child. I bet he probably sees his son probably once or twice a yr.
tattoo means nothing. just hypocritical show in this case.
CelebritiesRe: Eniola Badmus Tweets At Critics Of Her Swim Photos by cfours:
you will notice that most of the hater comments come from guys. most of them are probably have potbellies bigger than two of her arms combined.
Eniola Badmus, pls do you. Not every woman will be slim or look like 21yr old.
I enjoy your acting. you're a great actress and that's what matters most.
try to be healthy. but do it for yourself not to please some fools. ur worth is not in your looks but in ur well being.

Anonymous_123: in fact, if it makes you guys happy, here is a cute pic of them together. Jim can have it all grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
neither of them look happy.
d relationship won't last and I feel bad for nadia because jim iyke is a a walking can of worms.
Awhile back we heard he was sleeping with an old rich woman. She called d police on him, he was arrested and there was a thread about that.
more recently his jamaican "ex-fiancee" confessed that jim iyke was paying her to play a role as his girlfriend and she announced she was quitting the role.

too much woman drama for just one guy.

I'm sorry, but ogugua88's reasons for hiding your posts make a lot of sense.
It certainly doesn't feel nice to be punished, but we have to maintain order.
if her reason for hiding my post makes a lot of sense then I can assure you that one can make an argument for why 25% of all posts on this forum also justify being hidden based on the 21 rules u listed. It all depends on how they are interpreted and especially by WHO has the power to make the judgements and interpretation. i'm sure u will agree with me.

of course I expect no less. the last part of your post especially. "we have to maintain order"
Yea things will not be as efficient if every society judged cases like King Solomon. It is easier to just cut the baby in half isn't it? But this approach may end up backfiring in d long term. consider that.

I will urge you to consider limiting moderators freedom to post as they wish on threads (especially mods who are very active in contributing opinions to threads). this is so as to reduce double standards.
moderators who do their job more behind the scene are more respected they are less likely to do the same things they are punishing others for.
I can totally understand that for a very active member, it is probably almost impossible to never break any rule at all. moderators break rules and we see it. especially the ones who are active posters.

even Martin Luther King MLK is known to have a fetish for white prostitutes. and he is supposed to be the champion for black families and communities. lol
same with many of the african independence rights leaders and african american civil rights leaders.
so I think the whole thing was doomed from the start because the main problem is psychological colonization.I know racism is bad. but we let ourselves be colonized.

imagine there are a few cities in d USA that are extremely prosperous and tolerant. yet blacks still cannot succeed as a group in those cities. why? because the more liberal and tolerant a city is, the less likely you are to find a strong black community there. and these are cities where it's hard to blame racism because asians move in there and succeed. they start family businesses etc.

I am going to log off now because there is nothing positive coming out of this. you will see it from ur point of view and i will see it from mine. and asking me to "bring it to your attention" is like a cat asking a rat to bring itself to the cat's attention. that's clearly not going to work.
anyway, I'm just glad I'm not the only one who sees a problem with the way nairaland is being moderated. I didn't create this topic after all.
Nairaland GeneralRe: The Unprofessional-ism Of Nairaland Moderators... by cfours: 8:29am On May 26, 2013
go back on the topic and find your posts that have nothing to do with the subject at hand and hide them.

Nairaland GeneralRe: The Unprofessional-ism Of Nairaland Moderators... by cfours: 8:23am On May 26, 2013
from your point of view it was offtopic, from my point of view. it absolutely wasn't.
and besides, if you must have the absolute last word and say that my comment was offtpic, then there are some comments on that thread that were also off topic made by you.
Nairaland GeneralRe: The Unprofessional-ism Of Nairaland Moderators... by cfours: 8:17am On May 26, 2013
lol she didn't hide my post this time around. ope o
glad u admit that you hid my post for calling u a hater.

ogugua88: You simply can't look at my one post that says "Blind woman lol." and call it an insult. If moderators hid such comments by members, you all would be livid.
why do you think many members of NL are livid?
when "hater" is considered an insult but "blind woman" isn't.

i'm glad you mention context. because context also include something called POINT OF VIEW. and sad to say but you as a moderator can look from ur point of view and decide to hide post or ban people. where as from the other person's point of view, they did nothing wrong or were treated unfairly.

Trust me, they see the point. they're just trying to avoid it/ pretend or act ignorant of the fact.
it is psychological/ inferiority complex.

ogugua88: Your comment was hidden because I said get back on topic and you responded with a picture of "haterade". Like I told you in that thread, there's a difference between banter and insults. Modella takes comments like the one I made lightly, and she will respond me in the same manner if she's up to it. No big deal. She's not complaining, and I didn't violate any rule. I don't hide comments depicting banter. I hide deliberately insulting comments.
my comment was NOT off topic. I said you were sipping on haterade against the celebrity in question. how is that off topic except for the fact that you took offense to the idea that anyone would call you a hater.
it was totally on topic. unless your own comments about clothing combination was also off topic. which is what my comment was in response to.

also, you are a moderator so we wouldn't expect you to start banning yourself or hiding your own posts so I will not respond to that part about Modella. She may not have taken offense to your post. That's not for me to judge. I'm not a moderator whose job is to judge what is offensive or what is not. If you can call someone a blind woman and say it is banter. while you hide another person's post for calling u a hater. then there is clearly something wrong there. If we want to follow nairaland rules 100% then no one should make offensive comments period. and then say "oh my comment was banter so it doesn't count" that to me is very unfair.

i'm sure you will hide this post as you have always done. let's just see how long it will take.

this is why I believe in feminism. African women should make success for themselves rather than playing second fiddle to men. before we get a white first lady, we should get a nigerian female president. we nigerian women can do it!!

we should have more black female artists as well. and more black female athletes. we don't have enough.
I want to listen to and watch music videos by nigerian women. not men all d time who r intentionally trying to demean us women.
RomanceRe: It Seems To Me Every Black Man You See Nowadays Are With White Women by cfours:
SuyaEater: Black athletes should have atleast some sense of pride ..
In Africa there are at least 2-3 presidents whose first lady is white. Senegal comes to mind. what example does that lay for the pride of d country. colonization is over yet the people in 100% black country are forced to look up to a white lady as their first lady.

It may not be long before we also have a white first lady in Nigeria.

it's a psychological/kolo-mental thing. Fela Kuti would sing about it if he were alive.
RomanceRe: It Seems To Me Every Black Man You See Nowadays Are With White Women by cfours: 4:48am On May 26, 2013
It's also hard to watch a nigerian music video nowadays without seeing white women in it.
this one for example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hS9O7AIA7g8
more than a decade ago, when white women were mostly out of reach, the craze was about mixed-breed/biracial women.

it's nothing but inferiority complex. and it affect african women too otherwise u won't see many black women bleaching their skin just so that they can look more like the desired lighter women.
