Al-kahf, The CAVE. Chapter18- verse12, { ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَاهُمْ لِنَعْلَمَ أَيُّ الحِزْبَيْنِ أَحْصَىٰ لِمَا لَبِثُواْ أَمَداً } Then We aroused them, We awakened them, that We might know, a knowledge of direct vision, which of the two parties, the two groups in disagreement over the length of their stay [in the cave], was better in calculating (ahsā is [of the pattern] of af‘al, meaning ‘more precise’]) what they had tarried (li-mā labithū is semantically connected to the following) in [terms of the] length of time (amadan, [in the accusative] denotes purpose). |

Al-kahf, The CAVE. Chapter18- verse11, { فَضَرَبْنَا عَلَىٰ آذَانِهِمْ فِي ٱلْكَهْفِ سِنِينَ عَدَداً } So We smote their ears, that is, We made them sleep, in the Cave for several years, for a [fixed] number of years. |

Al-kahf, The CAVE. Chapter18- verse10, { إِذْ أَوَى ٱلْفِتْيَةُ إِلَى ٱلْكَهْفِ فَقَالُواْ رَبَّنَآ آتِنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً وَهَيِّىءْ لَنَا مِنْ أَمْرِنَا رَشَداً } Mention, when the youths took refuge in the Cave (fitya, ‘youths’, is the plural of fatā, and denotes a mature young man) fearing for their faith from their disbelieving people, they said, ‘Our Lord! Give us mercy from Yourself and remedy for us our affair through rectitude’, [through Your] guidance. |

Al-kahf, The CAVE. Chapter18- verse9, { أَمْ حَسِبْتَ أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ ٱلْكَهْفِ وَٱلرَّقِيمِ كَانُواْ مِنْ آيَاتِنَا عَجَباً } Or did you think, did you suppose, that the Companions of the Cave, the cavern in the mountain, and the Inscription, the tablet wherein their names and lineages had been inscribed — the Prophet (s) had been asked about their tale — were, with regard to their tale, a [unique] marvel from among, the entirety [of], Our signs? (‘ajaban, ‘a marvel’ is the predicate of [the defective verb] kāna [sc. kānū], the preceding [min āyātinā, ‘from among Our signs’] being a circumstantial qualifier). In other words, [did you suppose] that they were a marvel exclusively from among all [Our] other signs, or that they were the most marvellous among them? Not so. |
3. Abandonment of the congregational prayer in the masjid by able men either regularly or on occasion. The commandment has been given to perform the salaah in congregation in the masaajid. Congregational (al-jamaa’ah) salaah is a duty except for those who have a valid excuse according to the sharia’h. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: Whoever hears the call (al-adhaan) and thereafter does not answer it (i.e. attend the congregational salaah) there is no salaah for him except for a valid excuse. [Reported by Ibn Maajah and others with a strong chain (isnaad) and Al-Haafith Ibn Hajar said “Its chain is according to the conditions of Muslim”]. Allah ta’aala also says: And bow down with those who bow down. {Al-Qur’aan 2:43] In a hadeeth in Al- Bukhaari and Muslim (mutafaqun ‘alaih): …I would then leave (after tbe salaah has begun) and go to those men who do not attend the salaah and burn their houses down over them. 4. Lack of tranquility (at-tama’neenah) within the salaat. This is generally done out of ignorance and it is an open sin because tranquility is a pillar (rukn) of the salaah without which the salaah is incorrect. The hadeeth about the man who performed his salaah badly is a clear evidence for this. The meaning of tama’neenah (tranquility) is that the one praying is tranquil in the rukoo’ (bending), standing (‘itidaal), prostration (sujood), and sitting between the two prostrations (juloos), and he should get in position where every bone settles into place, he should not hasten between portions of the prayer until he has attained tranquility in it and gives each its due time. The Prophet (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said to the one who was rushing through his salaah without observing the proper tranquility: Go back and make salaah because you have not made the salaah. And in the hadeeth of Rifaa’ah on the story of the one who prayed badly it goes on: Then he makes takbeer and bows and puts his hands on his knees until each joint is settled and relaxed. Then he says ‘sami’allahu liman hamida’ (Allah hears the one who praises Him) then stands up straight until each bone is in its place. |

5 years to run concurrently, Lagos – The duo of Christine Ibori-Ibie, the only surviving sister of Chief James Ibori, and Udoamaka Onuigbo (Okoronkwo), Chief Ibori’s mistress, Monday sentenced to a total of 25 years by Judge Christopher Hardy of a Southwark London Crown Court but they are to spend five years each in prison. “It’s 5 years each for Ibori-Ibie and Onuigbo,” the Court Clerk was quoted as saying. Christine and Udoamaka were last week found guilty by a 12-man jury of various financial crimes including money laundering, mortgage fraud and wire fraud. Christine, in her case was found guilty on all counts the prosecution leveled against her while Udoamaka was found guilty only on counts 2, 3, and 4 in the trial with case number T20087009. Both convicts were remanded in prison at the order of judge Hardy immediately a guilty verdict was passed by the jury last week. The sentencing did not go without some drama at the courthouse. First, there was a reporting restriction on the case, a Southwark Crown Court official, who chose to be unnamed was quoted as saying yesterday afternoon. During our first call, the official said the sentencing was moved from Court 8, which seats about 25 persons to Court 9 in order to accommodate more persons. Nigerians in the UK were reported to have turned out en masse in court today leading the court to move three times in order to create space for over 150 Nigerians that attended the sentencing today, but a large chunk of the attendees that had responded to the call of the Nigeria Liberty Forum to come to the event could not find a seat in the court room. When Judge Christopher Hardy eventually began the sentencing hearing, the lawyers to the women pleaded with him to temper justice with mercy, claiming that the two women had been extensively manipulated by Ibori to commit the offences on his behalf. For the first time in court, the defense lawyers conceded that Ibori was a criminal with powerful influence. They alluded to his pervasive influence over the entire Nigerian government structure to buttress their point that the two women were too insignificant to have rejected his overtures. However, the judge rejected their pleas. In doing so, Judge Hardy took the unprecedented step of coming down hard on the Nigerian judiciary, declaring that the Nigerian judiciary has been usurped by Ibori. He said it is the people of Nigeria that are the victims, not the two women who lived a life of luxury off the poverty of their people. He made it clear in open court that the women knew exactly what they were doing and therefore couldn’t be described as victims. Late last year, Judge Marcel Awokulehin of the Federal High Court in Asaba set the thieving former governor free after throwing out the 170 charges of corruption that had been brought against him, proving that justice was available to be bought in the Nigerian judiciary. Ibori swaggered into the Edo State capital in triumph to give a Founder’s Day lecture at the University of Benin, an institution the reputation of which was severely damaged in academic circles. In the UK, Ibori did not find a price tag on justice. The two women were taken to prison as soon as the sentencing ended while Nigerians in attendance jubilated outside the court room or headed to local pubs to celebrate. Meanwhile, he is still in Dubai awaiting possible extradition to the United Kingdom. |
• Okays Nwodo As PDP Chairman • Iwuanyanwu, Ali Call For Caution President Goodluck Jonathan has reportedly endorsed Okwesilieze Nwodo as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman but cautioned those in the Reform Forum who drop his name to advance their own cause. Sources said the endorsement came at a meeting of the PDP national caucus on Sunday, where Jonathan also stressed the need to follow due process in amending the party’s constitution. However, former PDP National Chairman, Ahmadu Ali, and a member of its Board of Trustees (BoT), Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, have called on the party to consult widely before Nwodo is appointed. For the second time, the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party has been put off, and will not hold on the rescheduled date on June 10. A statement issued by PDP National Secretary, Rufai Alkali, expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the postponement, and said he “looks forward to receiving all NEC members when a new date is announced.” A source at the meeting disclosed that Jonathan warned against PDP members dropping his name, urging those in the Reform Forum to follow due process in their quest to amend the party’s constitution. The source said Jonathan has accepted the nomination of Nwodo as National Chairman by the South East Governors, but insisted that the PDP constitution be respected for posterity sake. “Jonathan advised the PDP caucus that met with him last night (Sunday) that he was happy how the party Chairmanship saga was resolved, but he was also concerned about the eligibility of the preferred candidate. “He advised the leaders to ensure that every loose end is plugged, because he would not want any further crisis in the party,” the source said. He added that Jonathan said he drafted Vice President Namadi Sambo to broker peace between the National Working Committee (NWC) and the PDP Reform Forum members to ensure party unity. Jonathan cautioned the Reform Forum to desist from forming parallel state executives, which are regarded as anti-party activities that could warrant disciplinary measures. Even with that, the adoption of Nwodo as National Chairman is raising dust as the party’s constitution renders him ineligible because he has not spent the mandatory 18 months since his return to the fold. Ali urged the national caucus to consult widely, as Nwodo only returned to the PDP on June 14 last year. He recalled that Nwodo left the PDP in 2003 and contested for a Senatorial seat under the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). He wondered if the national caucus is rewarding Nwodo for dumping the party. Ali’s views were echoed by Iwuanyanwu, who also sought wide consultation before Nwodo gets the post. Federal Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke, equally drew attention to the fact that Nwodo is yet to fulfill Section16.4 of the PDP constitution. The Section says: “No member of the party shall be qualified for nomination or election or appointment into any of the offices of the party, unless he or she has been a registered member for at least 18 months and is of good financial standing in the party, except there is waiver by the appropriate executive committee.” Bello urged the party to ensure that a waiver is secured for Nwodo, or else someone may go to court to block his appointment. The NEC meeting is said to have been put back by one week to ensure that the Enugu State PDP passes the waiver to the South East zonal office for transmission to the NEC. However, some question why Nwodo, who is named in the Siemens scandal could become National Chairman in place of Vincent Ogbulafor who had to resign because of the corruption charges against him in court. |

Muslim women wear head scarves for traditional reasons, and because it is in keeping with the commandments of Allah. Through Muhammad, Allah’s words are that women should be modest, and cover their beauties like their hair and their chest. At home among family and in front of their husband, Muslim women do not need to wear head scarves. It should be noted that not all Muslim women wear head scarves. Some wear both head covering and veil, called the Niqab. Others wear merely simple head scarves called Khimar. The Burqa and Chador cover the woman from head to foot, and are worn in some Muslim countries. All clothing that is said to follow the laws of Allah is called Hijab. However, some modern Muslim women feel that such covering is not important at all. It is a common misconception that all Muslim women dress the same. While many do cover their heads with head scarves, many don’t cover, and wear more westernized style clothing. Still clothing should be simple and not be meant to attract men or express vanity, according to the Qur’an. |
Mistakes of Salaah 1. Leaving the salaah altogether. This is indeed kufr (disbelief) and the evidence is found within the Qur’aan the authentic sunnah and the consensus of the ummah. Allah states: If they repent and establish the salaah and give the zakaah, they are you brothers in faith (deen). [Al-Qur’aan 9:11] And Allah ta’aala says: What landed you in As-Saqar (Hell)? They said: We were not of those who made salaah (almusalleen)…[ Al-Qur’aan 76:42-43] and so on. As far as the sunnah: The hadeeth of Jaabir that the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: Between a man and shirk (what protects him from shirk) is the abandonment of salaah. [Muslim] It is narrated by Abu Dawood, An-Nisaa’i, Ibn Maajah, and At-Tirmidhi on the authority of Buraidah Al-Husaib from the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) who said: The covenant between us and them (i.e. the Prophet – and/or his successors -and those who claim to be Muslims) is the salaah so whosoever abandons it has disbelieved. [ Ahmad and others and it is saheeh] As far as consensus (al-ijmaa’): Abdullah Ibn Shaqeeq (radiallahu ‘anhu) stated: The Companions of Muhammad (radiallahu ‘anhum) did not view the abandonment of any other deed as kufr other than (abandoning) salaah.[At-Tirmidhi and others with an authentic chain] 2. Delaying the salaah from its appointed time. This is a violation according to the word of Allah ta’aala: Verily the salaah has been appointed for the believers at specific times (mawqoot). [Al-Qur’aan 4:103] Al-Mawqoot indicates a specific appointed time and the postponement of sallah beyond the obligatory time (fardh) is a major sin and Allah is one upon Whom we depend. On the authority of Anas who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) saying:This is the salaat of the hypocrite (munaafiq); when he sits observing the sun until it is between the horns of Shaitaan, then he stands to perform four (rak’ah) remembering Allah little. [Muslim] If this is the salaah of the hypocrite then what of the salaah of someone who postpones the prayer until the complete period of the salaat has passed without any excuse? |
The Bible says that Jesus wanted God’s will to be done, not his own. Luke 22:42: “not my will but Yours be done.” John 5:30 “I do not seek my own will, but the will of Him who sent me.” John 6:38 “For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of Him that sent me.” Are some members of the coequal Trinity subservient, and less than equal, to other members? Even though they have different wills (“I do not seek my own will”), do they obey without question the others’ commands (“the will of Him who sent me”)? Jesus admits to subordinating his own distinct will, yet according to the Trinitarian doctrine they should all have the same will. Should one of the triune partners have to forgo his own will in favor of the will of another member of the Trinity? Should not they all have the exact same will? Enigma: |

Al-kahf, The CAVE.
