Literature / Ebola Scare And Stigma: My Story by chalxdon(m): 8:00am On Oct 06, 2014
My friends have urged me to narrate my ordeal about my personal experience of Ebola scare. I've been hesitant because am not all that good in narrative writing. However, i have made up my mind to try and share it. This is a personal account of what i passed through. It's not fiction.

Stepping into the room, i saw my roommate fully kitted. He had his shirt buttoned up to the collar like one of those ancient pastors coupled with hand gloves and stockings. I've had a very long and hectic journey thanks to the deplorable Enugu-Port Harcourt express road, but I still had the strength to hail my man. 'O boy how far naaaa?' This one wey you kit up like dis..wetin dey do you?? I was hit with a very cold reply... 'I dey oo'. I greeted the other guy in the room with a handshake, but my offer for handshake from my roomie was practically ignored as his hands were tightly folded. I now became worried as much as confused. See me see wahala.
'I don't know what is wrong with your man oo', the other guy said. 'He's having fever'. Hmmm! In my usual manner, I tried to throw in some jokes to kick him up and that got my roomie smiling casually. This is unlike him though. This was happening on Monday night 1st Sept during the craze of Ebola virus disease especially in Lagos and PH. Behold! My roommate had been in Lagos the previous week for an interview and just came back with cold and fever....Early signs of uncle Ebola.
The fever was getting more serious and I had to run around to make sure he gets something to eat...upon say I dey broke that period. 'O boy you don go carry Ebola for Lag I asked jokingly. We laughed over it. The next day, behold, rashes everywhere on his body. Only God knows what went through my mind. The heart is actually deceitful...o di na Bible. Ikwu ezioukwu I became worried. He couldn't come out of the room for sometime and people started becoming curious and worried as well. 'Charles, is Edu still sick?' Doctor Emeka (my neighbour) asked. I replied yes. 'Since when has he been sick? he continued. Then I dropped the unintended bombshell..... Since he came back from Lagos, I said innocently. 'Lagosssss...he shouted. This got other peoples' attention. That was how everything changed and the journey began.
Food / Re: Which Is The Best Source Of Protein, animal Protein Or Plant Protein? by chalxdon(m): 2:42pm On Oct 04, 2014
owolabifunke14:
Let me help u out. Ur girl lied to u, animal protein is 100% better than plant proteins. Here are my scientific based reasons of which everyone who knows about nutrients would attest to, (1)proteins from animal origin contains essential amino acids such as methionine and lysine which are lacking in plant proteins. (2)plant proteins contains antinutrients haemagglutinins and lectins which have ability of agglutinating red blood cells in a fashion similar to antibodies and thus poisonous to humans (3)every plant contains hydrogen cyanide or prussic acid which could cause anoxia of central nervous system,it is only methionine from meat that can detoxify cyanide through a pathway known as cyanide thiocyanate sulphur transferase rhodenase. If not in children poor growth will occur and sperm formation will be poor in adults. Methionine helps ur liver and bone as well(4)every food from plant contains what is called tannin:this tannins binds protein and impairs it availabilities,it only lysine supplied through the consumption of meat that can help ur system destroy d polyphenols such as chlorogenic caffeic and make proteins available for ur brain and subsequent distribution of serotonine in ur system.(5)plant protein sources such as beans, soya bean and ground apparent digestible crude protein of 45%,42% and 41% respectively whereas meat contains about 110-150% crude protein.(6) milk and egg are the only complete food in nature because they contain all the nutrients/classes of food in their right proportions, guess what, they are both from animal. I will stop here, please tell ur girl friend that she was wrong. Animal protein is better than plant protein. NB: cooking or boiling also detoxifies the antinutrients I mentioned above but not completely.
What is your discipline?

aminu150: I dont believe it. Its all a ploy to divert attention from CANs president jet involved in arms smuggling. We are really doomed as Nigerians if we continue to accept this type of wickedness metted on us just for the sake of power. Please how is this possible suddenly the Nigerian Army is claiming victory, what has changed in the army please? CAN+PDP= Boko haram. This is why the government wants to divert attention from the private jet arms scandal to claims of victories in borno recently.

It is the ROM that causes this kind of problem.

SOLUTION:
Flash another ROM on the phone or wait till the bug that causes the wifi problem is fixed by the developer.

Alternatively, you could factory reset the phone -this is not a sure solution anyways.
Thank you. I have done factory reset but the issue persisted. please how can I flash another ROM on d phone?

From my experience of having studied in both state and federal university, I can say that all government universities are in a mess. I am even tempted to say that students in state universities work harder than their federal counterparts. Be it as it may, our educational system needs deliverance

......But,with a greedy and selfish agent like John Shittu, they choose money over refinement

10 years later a certain Messi has won the Fifa player of the year award on what occasion? How many league trophies?Champions league trophies?

Wait a minute.....where is Mikel again and what his current value compared to Messi?

Go figure
And you think Ferguson would have used him well?? You don't have a clue why Mikel didn't go to United

Education / Schools Reopen: Right Action, Wrong Timing by chalxdon(m): 2:58pm On Dec 04, 2013
RIGHT ACTION, WRONG TIMING

Yes, it's a goodnews that many universities have pulled out of the on-going ASUU strike following unending throwing of wits by both parties. This is as a result of FG's directives/threats and/or universities' decision to reopen their schools.
Without doubt this is one of the best news for parents, guardians and students alike for this half of the year. We are all grateful, not that we have a choice.
Today, am not writing yet on the negative effects the strike has caused - that's a story for another day; am however writing on the wrong timing of these actions.
Majority of the schools that have recently decided to open their doors to academic activities have declared 9th Dec (the same deadline given by the FG/NUC/Vice chancellors, whoever) and I began to wonder why choose such a date...ludicrous as it is, which is barely 2 weeks to the usual Christmas holiday. I thought further.....shouldn't January, 6th or thereabouts, be a more reasonable and logical date?? This surely casts doubts over concerns for the students' care, security and all that.
Did they consider the abundant risks on our roads and cost of traveling hundreds of miles from one part of the country to the other just to travel back (for most of students shaa) for Christmas, then travel back come January
Students have stayed at home for about 24 weeks. Two weeks wouldn't make a significant difference. Parents and students have suffered a lot because of this strike and any decision on resumption should at least be flexible and easier enough.
This might not sound reasonable to some irrational beings, but when we take time to think about people traveling from the north to the south, from the west to the east, from the east to the north e.t.c. especially at this busy period of the year. I don't want to delve into the psychological aspect on how mentally ready the students are at this period of the year to resume studies immediately.
I salute the courage of the schools that have reopened their schools. Their actions are well intended, but the TIMING is just wrong and o dirokwa nma (it's not fair).
This is just my opinion shaa and everybody's got theirs. What's your own??
