Efewestern: So a trained Economist is okay with Nigeria's import dependent nature? Don't you know how many industries have died due to importation and the fact that we can't compete with the Chinese and Indians?
You all should stop throwing grammar and face reality, there is no nation in this world that imports 90% of what they consume and still progresses, if I'm lying, list two.
We must learn to balance import and export, not advising us to continue with massive importation. THINK!!!!!!!!!! He is simply a trained Idiot to put africans in poverty |
Politics › Re: ‘stop Advising Nigeria To Be Import Dependent’ – Agbakoba Tells Okonjo Iweala by chamboy(m): 4:19am On Mar 23, 2021 |
Efewestern: So they now grow crude oil? Cocoa doesn't grow in every terrain, Cement raw materials aren't found everywhere, so how can a nation get all these at once?
Importing everything we consume will impoverish us, Let's take the oil industry for example, we had to opportunity to generate billions of dollars from the sector by fixing our refineries and expanding on inbuilt capacity, we could also have flooded the West African market with our refined produce, but instead, Asians and Europeans are dominating despite us being rich in oil and gas.
Think of the millions of jobs that would have been created should we have 5 functional refineries (We already have the west African market to dominate), think of the improved standards of living etc. With importation, only few benefits at the detriment of millions of people.
Reason this out. Efe, you don't need to argue with people like him. They're one of the beneficiaries of what got us where we're and they will do anything to protect their interest. |

Nwaide01: It's because of the people like this man that Nigeria nay Africa is how it is light now, do they think that God who deposited all this mineral resources in African soil don't know what He's doing? He gave us the minerals and gave the oyibos the technical know how to use them to manufactured those goods we're importing. The question should be what did those who were saddled with managing the affairs of this country did with the money realized from the sales of those mineral deposits, they squandered it while the oyibos used theirs to develop their countries. So the problem is not about the importation but is all about management, check over the companies handed over to the government during the indigenization policies of 1970s,how many of them is still functioning? All your statements is dumb as Bleep. Please just limit your little minded to yourself. |

EzeNri: Economic liberalisation remains the best route to grow an economy. Every economist will tell you this.
When we decided to close our borders against food import, domestic prices of both the imported and locally produced ones skyrocketed.
Our farmers despite selling at lower prices pre-Buhari era were better off then than now.
Buhari's protectionist policies is not working and its making more Nigerians poor and hungry.
Why still insist on that? Simply put, 1984 import policy has made us lazy |

The Lekki FTZ, Lekki deepsea port is majority owned by Indian and Chinese., Nigerian are being excluded from the development of their own country. I am not against foreign investment but learn how to manage it. Building is the easy part, maintaining and making sure of consistency is the hard job. |
