The Director General, National Taskforce to Combat Illegal Importation of Small Arms, Ammunition, and Light Weapons, NATFORCE, Dr. Emmanuel Osita Okereke, on Friday alleged that former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki wanted him dead for reporting some of his (Dasuki) activities to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He also threw his weight behind the Department of State Services, DSS, for preventing Dasuki from traveling abroad.

The DSS operatives have continued to lay siege on Dasuki’s residence despite a court order.

However, the NATFORCE DG, while speaking with DAILY POST, advocated that anybody standing trial on criminal case should not be allowed to travel overseas under whatever guise.

He alleged that Dasuki was one of the people that deceived former President, Goodluck Jonathan, when he convinced him to remove all the service chiefs.

He told DAILY POST that, “There is information we made available to the former President and he was directed to invite us for more information but Dasuki rebuffed it because he was trying to save his boys and agents.

“We know how many arms that entered this country illegally through various borders, which ex-NSA concealed and protected the suspects.

“My men intercepted 12 trailer load of ammunition at Sema border, and Col. Sambo used his boys to clear the arms and threatened to assassinate me when I wrote to the former President Jonathan”.

He alleged that Dasuki had concluded plans to flee to Syria, adding that “former EFCC boss Ibrahim Lamorde has escaped through Chad border, before fleeing abroad; it would be disastrous for the country if Dasuki escapes trial.”

The NATFORCE boss further stated that the ex-NSA “contributed 80 percent to the security problems we are having today.”

Okereke said though the judiciary was the last hope of the common man, “somebody like Col. Dasuki (rtd) should not benefit in that hope because he is enemy of progress and rule of law.

“He disobeyed several court orders while in office for his selfish interest. Why is he asking that order of the same court he disobeyed while in office should be obeyed now?”

Okereke, who expressed dismay that the man who should be answering treasonable felony charges is talking of medical check-up oversees, stressed that “it is only in Nigeria that somebody who is standing trial in a criminal matter would want to travel abroad for medical checkup”.

“Now, we are talking about insecurity in the country; former EFCC boss Ibrahim Lamorde has escaped through Chad border. This is the man the chairman, Police Service Commission recommended as one of the best police officers, who has done well for his country; today, that same man is now an escapee,” he further alleged.

Foreign AffairsRe: Suspected Paris Attack Mastermind Now Dead (photos) by Charlydot2(m): 10:28pm On Nov 19, 2015
olafum1:
The suspected Islamic State mastermind of the Paris attacks was among those killed in a police raid north of the capital, France confirmed on Thursday, bringing an end to the hunt for Europe's most wanted man.

Authorities said they had identified the corpse of Belgian national Abdelhamid Abaaoud from fingerprints in the aftermath of Wednesday's raid, in which at least two people died including a female suicide bomber after a gun battle with police.

"It was his body we discovered in the building, riddled with impacts," a statement from the Paris prosecutor said, a day after the pre-dawn raid. The prosecutor later added that it was unclear whether Abaaoud had detonated a suicide belt.

Abaaoud was accused of orchestrating last Friday's coordinated bombings and shootings in the French capital, which killed 129 people. Seven assailants died in the attack and a suspected eighth is still on the run.

Prime Minister Manuel Valls broke the news of Abaaoud's death in parliament on Thursday to applause from lawmakers who were voting to extend a state of emergency for another three months.

"We know today ... that the mastermind of the attacks - or one of them, let's remain cautious - was among those dead," Valls told reporters.

Even before last week's attacks, Morroccan-born Abaaoud, 28, was one of Islamic State's highest-profile European recruits, prominently profiled in the group's slick online English-language magazine Dabiq, where he boasted of traveling across European borders staging attacks.

The group, which controls swathes of Iraq and Syria, has attracted thousands of young Europeans, and Abaaoud was seen as a leading figure in attracting others to the movement, particularly from his home country Belgium.

He claimed to have escaped a manhunt after a raid in Belgium in 2013 in which two other militants were killed. His own family has disowned him, accusing him of abducting his 13-year-old brother, who was later promoted on the Internet as Islamic State's youngest foreign fighter in Syria.

Before the attacks, European governments thought Abaaoud was still in Syria. "This is a major failing," said Roland Jaquard at the International Observatory for Terrorism.

While quickly tracking him down will be seen as a major success for French authorities, his presence in Paris will focus more attention on the difficulty European security services have in monitoring the continent's borders.

French officials have called for changes to the functioning of the EU's Schengen zone, which normally does not monitor the entry and exit of citizens of its 26 countries. Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have arrived in Europe as refugees in recent months, including someone who used a passport found at the scene of one of Friday's attacks.

FIREFIGHT, EXPLOSIONS

Early on Wednesday, police swooped on the house where Abaaoud was holed up in the Paris suburb of St. Denis. Heavily armed officers stormed the building before dawn, triggering a firefight and multiple explosions.

Officials had said on Wednesday that two people were killed in the raid, including a female suicide bomber who blew herself up. Forensic scientists were trying to determine whether a third person had died. Eight people were arrested.

Two police sources and a source close to the investigation told Reuters the St. Denis cell had been planning a new attack on Paris's La Defense business district. A source close to the investigation said the female bomber who was killed might have been Abaaoud's cousin.

The victims of the deadliest attacks in France since World War Two came from 17 different countries, many of them young people out on a Friday night at bars, restaurants, a concert hall and a soccer stadium.

Islamic State says it carried out the attacks in retaliation for French air raids against its positions over the past year.

France has called for a global coalition to defeat the group and has launched air strikes on Raqqa, the de-facto Islamic State capital in northern Syria, since the weekend. Russia has also targeted the city in retribution for the downing of a Russian airliner last month that killed 224.

The aftermath of the attacks could see common cause between Western capitals and Moscow, more than a year after the United States and European Union imposed financial sanctions on Russia over its annexation of territory from Ukraine.

Russia and the West are divided over Syria, with Moscow supporting President Bashar al-Assad and Western countries saying he must leave power to end a four-year-old civil war. Moscow launched air strikes in Syria six weeks ago and says it is targeting Islamic State, although most of its strikes have hit areas controlled by other groups opposed to Assad.

There are signs however that the recognition of a common threat since the Paris shootings and the Russian air crash could prompt more efforts to cooperate.

European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker wrote to President Vladimir Putin this week, suggesting closer trade ties between the 28-nation EU and a Russian-led economic bloc, linking them to progress on implementing a ceasefire in Ukraine.

In the letter, seen by Reuters, Juncker underlined the importance of good relations between the European Union and Moscow, "which to my regret have not been able to develop over the past year". He said he had asked Commission officials to study options for closer ties between the EU and the Moscow-led Eurasian Economic Union of former Soviet states.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius said he was surprised by the letter, which he said did not reflect a common view of EU member states and made no reference to EU sanctions.

INTERNATIONAL COORDINATION

Paris and Moscow are not coordinating their air strikes in Syria, but French President Francois Hollande is due to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Nov. 26 to discuss how their countries' militaries might work together.

Two days before that, Hollande will meet U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington to discuss the role of a U.S.-led coalition in any unified effort against Islamic State.

France is one of several European countries participating in the U.S.-led coalition's strikes against Islamic State targets in Iraq, and two months ago became the only European country to join strikes in Syria as well.

Obama on Thursday reiterated the U.S. position that eradicating the group was tied up with ending the civil war in Syria, which could not happen as long as Assad was in power.

"Bottom line is, I do not foresee a situation in which we can end the civil war in Syria while Assad remains in power," he told reporters in Manila on the sidelines of the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.

PoliticsRe: Bafarawa Escapes Arrest As EFCC Lays Siege On Residence by Charlydot2(m): 8:55pm On Nov 19, 2015
ishiamu:
Former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, has escaped arrest after about three-hour siege on his Usuma Street, Abuja residence by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
As early as 6am on Thursday, the peratives of the anti-graft commission, supported by armed mobile policemen, lined up along the street and surrounded his house.
A credible source at the ant-graft commission who pleaded anonymity confirmed the raid, saying “it was a botched attempt to arrest Bafarawa”.
PREMIUM TIMES learnt that Mr. Bafarawa, who left Nigeria for Saudi Arabia two weeks ago, is currently in the United States on vacation.
Mr. Bafarawa and 15 others, mostly his aides while he was a governor, have been facing trial since they left office in 2007 for alleged misappropriation of public funds totalling N15 billion.
The former governor, who is a political associate of the embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, had accompanied the former NSA to court to answer charges of unlawful possession of firearms and alleged retention of funds, contrary to Section 15 (2)(d) of Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2011.
On November 3, operatives of State Security Service arrested a former Governor of Adamawa State, Boni Haruna, a few hours after standing surety for Mr. Dasuki.
Mr. Haruna was allegedly quizzed over “multi-billion investment in Ghana”.
But the former governor’s spokesman, Yusuf Dingyadi, told PREMIUM TIMES that the siege on Mr. Bafarawa’s residence was a political persecution against perceived opponents of the ruling party.
Mr. Dingyadi said the persecution of his principal was a witch-hunt as the anti-corruption agency could not establish a case against Mr. Bafarawa for eight years.
He said Mr. Bafarawa would soon be back in Nigeria to strategise on the forthcoming local government election in Sokoto State.

PoliticsRe: We Are No More Going To Pay Minimum Wage - Governors!! by Charlydot2(m): 8:22pm On Nov 19, 2015
citizenisb:
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/we-can-no-longer-pay-n18000-minimum-wage-govs-cry-out/

ABUJA – Thirty-six States Governors have said that they can no longer pay the N18,000 minimum wage to workers owing to the poor state of the economy.

Rising from a crucial meeting on that ended at the early hours of Thursday at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja under the umbrella of Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF, the governors said that the dwindling prices of oil had drastically affected their States’ income.

Specifically, they said that the burden of the wage was lighter when oil sold at $126 as against the current $41 per barrel.

They therefore sought to have audience with President Muhammadu Buhari on the economy, resolving that the only way out of the quagmire was to diversify the economy to agriculture and mining.

Reading the communique issued at the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Forum and governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari hinted that the Forum also backed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) over the N2.1trillion sanction on MTN.

According to him, the governors agreed that the fine must be paid in full.

He said that they received briefing from the Acting Executive Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NCC, Professor Umar Dambata who explained the matter to them.

He said: “We resolved that we must look at ways to enhance revenue generation and at the same time look at ways to cut our overhead costs more especially the political office holders’ salaries and other overhead expenses.

“The situation is no longer the same when we were asked to pay N18,000 minimum wage, when oil price was $126 (per barrel) and continued paying N18,000 minimum wage when the oil is $41 and the source of government expenditure is from oil, and we have not seen prospects in the oil industry in the near future
.

“We will diversify our economy in the area of agriculture and mining. But at the same time, we should understand our situation where some of us (states) today are taking N100million take home (monthly allocation) and then have salaries in particular of over N2billion to pay.

“We therefore agreed here to take this suggestion to NEC in our meeting tomorrow (Thursday) so that we can be able to find ways to tackle this problem.
hahahahaha end of discussion part one...

This happened around 10am today along Ilesa-Ibadan expressway. A herd of cow ran into a luxurious bus full with passengers probably heading to Lagos, a major disaster that would have led to the loss of many lives was averted thanks to God and the professionalism of the luxurious bus driver. However 11 of the cows loss their lives.

As at the time I got there (on transit to Ibadan) the luxurious bus (said to be badly dented) has been moved to the nearby police station, because the driver is said to be claiming damages from the fulani herdsmen.

I actually stopped thinking that they will sell the cow meats (at cheap price) before they get bad, but since the case is still in police station I had to leave.

Thank God for those lives that were delivered from death and RIP to the dead cows.

Oh Hi Miss...... *smiles*

You're here again. The last game wasn't so good and Oliseh's tactics and silly mistake (taking out Mikel for Martins) were major reasons we didn't win that day.

But also, the players were simply generally "lethargic" BUT we would have had a goal had Oliseh not tampered with the team's dynamics after Iheanacho came in. Taking out Mikel spoilt everything on an already "frustrating" day of football.

Mikel's absence left a "gaping hole in our central midfield" which the Swazis exploited.

Yeah, other teams had it tough too but that's no excuse for us. We shouldn't concern ourselves with others. Saying, "what about Egypt, Mali, Ghana and Algeria who struggled?" is just like saying this:

""Yeah I scored 50/100 in this exam but I'm ok because Segun, the class' no.1 don scored 48...."

That's a poor mentality. We should always expect the best from ourselves regardless of how other "top guns" are faring.

This time, I'm gonna watch them from my "study".

I'm not coming out....... When the time for the game comes around tomorrow, I'll use my mobile gadget to watch it live or I could use the TV in my Study's "inner hidden room".

OLISEH, I LIKE HIM BUT HE BETTER WATCH OUT..... I still don't trust his player-management skills. He got to improve here. As for his tactical/technical prowess, he can get better but yeah he's good. It's just that "that blunder" he commited against the Swazis is really "silly".

PoliticsRe: Nigerians Are Determined To Remain One – Buhari by Charlydot2(m): 3:40pm On Nov 16, 2015
Serendip:
Despite the ongoing pro-Biafran protests rocking some parts of the country, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said Nigerians had resolved to remain one.

He said the fact that the country witnessed a lot of internal strife and a civil war since independence and has remained united was a proof of the people’s resolve to remain one.

Buhari spoke during the launch of the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said he was proud to address the gathering in honour of those who he said devoted their lives to the service of the country and the world at large.

The President said, “Today’s occasion reminds us of the need to appreciate the noble contributions of our fallen heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice to maintain national and international peace and security.

“Our nation has recently celebrated 55 years of political independence and continues to remain as one indivisible entity despite several grievous challenges.

“Since independence, Nigeria has witnessed a lot of internal strife, survived a civil war and has remained united.

“This feat achieved by the country is an eloquent testimony to the determination of our citizens to remain as one people.

“The sacrifices of our fallen heroes, heroines, and veterans who rose up to the security challenges cannot go un-noticed.”

While describing the current terrorism challenge as a trying time for Nigeria, Buhari described the theme of this year’s remembrance, “Motivating the Nigerian Armed Forces for Effective Service Delivery” as very apt for the current realities.

He lauded men of the nation’s armed forces for their courage and sacrifices in grappling with the wave of terrorism, oil theft and piracy in some parts of the country, saying they have displayed unalloyed loyalty and commitment to Nigeria.
